If he can stay healthy, that Dolphins signing of Delmas from Detroit on a one year, $3.5 million contract could be a great value signing. Better than overpaying for Byrd

The Falcons gave Paul Soliai a lot of money...
@AlbertBreer Paul Soliai has agreed to terms with Atlanta on five-year, $33 million deal. $14 million guaranteed. $11 million in 2014 |

Schefter: Colts are giving CB Vontae Davis a four-year, $39 million deal, including $20 million guaranteed, per source.
Surprised he got less than Sam Shields. |

Niners traded a 6th round pick for Blaine Gabbert. Harbaugh loved him in the pre-draft process.

Still, seems pretty stupid to give up last year's 1st rounder for him just to play CB for a bad team. Its not like they were on paper a great team or expected to be 1 piece short of a SB squad. |

Considering the hype about Harbaugh during the offseason, it is interesting the GM made a move for Harbaugh.

It's a weird trade but I think it could work for both sides. The Niners take a flyer on a guy with some talent and it doesn't cost them much and the offense in San Fran is likely much closer to what Gabbert ran at Missouri plus he'll have far better pieces around him than he did in Jacksonville.

Albert's not worth that kind of money. Thankful that KC didn't spend that kind of a contract on him. Will miss McCluster, but he did get injured quite a bit. Lots of solid RB's that are cheaper on the free agent market. |

Peppers was on the hook for 14m this year, overpaid.
Ironically, Suh is due a whopping 22.7m this year. RESTRUCTURE PRONTO

Yeah, really improves their run D.
As expected the Pats have signed no one on Day 1. I still think one or both of Edelman/Talib will be back, but it's like last year - hope no one team covets either, wait for both to realize that offer isn't coming, and re-sign for a reasonable amount. For some reason I don't think Brandon Spikes will be coming back... Only player I've heard we've brought in so far is Wesley Woodyard. He'd make a nice replacement/upgrade on Dane Fletcher as the backup coverage linebacker. Also hearing some smoke on Darren Sproles - from a strictly positional standpoint his skillset does overlap with Vereen's, but we love our "space" players. He might qualify as our Edelman replacement if a trade does work out. |

How fickle the NFL can be. That'll be a really interesting signing - I think some team could get a huge bargain there... provided he stays healthy. Same thing with Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, or even Wes Welker - clearly great players, but such a health risk. Undersized (or, rather, regular sized - because let's be honest 6' 180 isn't small) receivers who do a lot of work out of the slot just aren't worth big money deals. Outside receivers who are big have a much better track record when it comes to big money deals.

Seems like signing Miles Austin for 3 years would be a safe way to insure you get at least 16 games of production from him.

Sproles to NE makes no sense.
Plus, they wont pay him, assuming NO assbags the "try to trade him first" deal. Saints went out and paid Byrd, nice pickup, but they are over cap. Verner in TB means that Revis is yet again on the market, cut, and going to the highest bidder. Oakland anyone? Heard they are in rebuilding year 12 of 20. I cant recall a "best CB in the NFL" being bounced around like a $2 prostitute at the ripe age of 26. Its just where his $ to production and risk (injury avoidance) has jumped the shark.

Heh. Jonathan Martin is being traded to a team well known for being coached by a calm, cool, stabilizing factor.
San Fran. That'll end well. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 03-11-2014 at 09:16 PM. |

Adam Shefter reporting the Broncos are both Jared Allens and Marcus Ware's favorite to sign. I would be happy with either.

Not sure how the Saints justify that Byrd deal. They'll be very good for a couple more years, but they would've been anyway with Brees/Payton. You just got rid of like 5 useful players to sign 1 very good one - not sure that's how to build a team in today's NFL. TB got a great deal on Verner - "only" 6.5m/year, but it does completely undercut any value Revis had on the trade market. Just an embarrassing gamble on their part last year - sure could use Sheldon Richardson or Star Lotulelei on a rookie deal. |

Talib is gone to Denver.
6/57, $26 million guaranteed. Considering the deal that folks were thinking was too much around here was 4/30, I'm shocked.

I thought Vareen was basically Sproules without the health. Fantasy madness in NE once again. I know BB doesn't/shouldn't care but now they have like 4-5 backs that should be rostered.

And no CBs DRC is toast. I want to see a play for Revis and a move to retain Edelman or this is going to go down as a significant downgrade to the team's chances. Brady's window is closing - I wish the Pats would be as aggressive as the Broncos.

Wow. Talib. I was kind of hoping Denver would go after Revis. Not sure what I think of this. Talib is a stud when he's healthy and when he's motivated. It scares me that he'll slide down to bow wow status now that he's got his payday. Revamped secondary, wonder if anything else is on the way.

So basically the CB's left on the board are Revis, DRC and Cortland Finnegan?Pats like having multiple "space" players - i.e. guys who can get open on option routes and beat guys 1v1 in space - on the field at once as matchup problems. Sproles would be more of a slot receiver who could run the ball on draws or vs. dime defenses than a traditional RB. |

Why isn't someone trading a 6th for Revis and then converting 13m of his base to a bonus(as permitted by his contract). You can carry him as 5.6 this year and then just burn off 10m in dead money next year. Also teams are going to be rolling a ton of cap money over this year.

Saw some respected people panning the signing on Twitter, especially the terms given what other safeties on the market received. He wasn't listed on PFT's Top 100 FA list. What makes you say that? |

Mitchell got at least 5 fines last year for penalties. Just when we finally ditch Ryan Clark it's time to bring in yet another personal foul machine. |

He was a bad fit in Oakland after being drafted too high (2nd round) from a very small school and was a project anyway. He got hurt, got lost in the shuffle and had too many coaching changes considering he needed to learn. So he caught on at Carolina, who switched him to FS. He took over the starting role in week 2 and he improved as the year went on. He called their defensive signals, played good ball and the game started to slow down for him. The Steelers will ask him to do much of the same things as Carolina did, which is to play single high coverage 15-20 yards deep and cover from sideline to sideline. They also want someone who can seal the corner on runs and occasionally sack the QB. Mitchell has the athleticism and skill set to do all of these - he's a thumper, can rush the QB and has the raw speed (4.35) to cover deep. He's also big (6' 1", 215 lbs) which helps since the Steelers have Troy (5'10") and Sharknado (5'8") at SS. The knock against Mitchell is that he's not an instinctive player, which is fine. Troy fills that role for the 'Burg. He's also not a great in one-on-one coverage, but the Steelers aren't going to use him that way so he won't be exposed there. Finally, his personality should add something to the Steelers - he's a bit loud and likes to talk, something this Steelers defense lacks. It should be a pretty ideal fit of player, personality and scheme. LeBeau will have a field day putting a guy with his physical skills in the right spots to make plays. Of course, that's all on paper and it might not go that way. But I feel that this is probably the Ryan Clark scenario all over again (Steelers signing an unsung safety from a NFC team who becomes a solid performer for them for years). |
