Korea - Beyond the 38th Parallel (EUIV)

We hear of a new era dawning filled with exploration and unknown wonders in the west. The people of our great nation are intrigued. Occupying our small peninsular nation along the Sea of Japan, with the island people to our left, the sprawling Ming Empire to our south and the horde Khanate of Manchu north of us, we are itching to grow.

We believe that Korea is a great nation and a nation destined for greatness.

-----

King Do Yi (6/5/5) is our great leader. Our technology levels are all at 2, with everyone else in the region. We are in the Chinese group, meaning it takes us 60% more power to advance our technologies.

Our place in the world can be seen in the image below.

We are made up of seven provinces. Starting in the southwest: Jeolla, Gyeongsang is to its east. Directly north of Jeolla is Chungcheong with the capitol of Gyeonggi north of that. Gangwon borders both of them on the east. Hwanghae is north of the capitol with Pyongan and Hamgyeong the northernmost provinces.

We begin with 10,000 troops. 8,000 infantry and 2,000 cavalry. We have 8 galleys, 6 cogs and 3 barques in our navy.

Some of our goals are:

1. An alliance with Ming. They are the power in the east. We need to have an in with them.

2. Seize the Ryuku Islands. It sets us up with a small patch of land south of Japan.

3. Carve into Manchu territory. Expansion is our game. We want to be bold about it.

4. Colonize the Islands south of us with the potential of reaching the south of Australia.

5. Control trade across the eastern Pacific the Spice Islands.

6. Eliminate Japan. We want to control this island group as it is so close to our mainland holdings.

7. Colonize Hawaii.

8. Colonize in North America. Whether we reach it from the Bearing Sea or go from Hawaii to California. It will work for us.

We start a mission to form an alliance with Ming. Perfect.

December 17
We send our barques out to protect trade in Nippon.

We enter a royal marriage with Ming. Excellent.

1445

January 24
We take a mission to befriend the Oirat Horde who are the enemy of Manchu.

October 9
We hire a statesman to improve our Diplomatic Reputation by 5.

1448
April 8
Chungcheong has been struck with influenza! We've quarantined the port until a year from now. Trade Power is down 100% in the city, while Goods Produced and the Local Tax and Manpower modifiers are down 50%.

July 11
It took three years, but we have finally gotten on the very good side of the Oirat Horde with a marriage and a military alliance.

We earn 5 prestige and 25 diplomatic power.

We take a mission to insult Ryuku, or rival.

August 17
We insult them and receive 5 prestige and 25 military power.

We take a mission to accumulate money.

Our other option was to conquer the Manchu province of Haixi, but we're at a truce with them until 1451.

The Oirat Horde has asked us to come to their aid in the multiple conflicts they've gotten themselves into with Chagatai and Manchu.

Our peace treaty with Manchu has another 13 months to run. We will decline the Horde's offer and take the loss of 25 prestige, as much as it hurts.

October 24
Our merchant, Imhae Do has been struggling because of our focus on mercantilism. We tell him he should have stayed at home if he can't handle the trade.

1451

We also earn 50 diplomatic power.

1455
February 12
We send a diplomat to Oirat Horde to try and patch relations.

October 22
We get the Rush of Merchants event.

We take the monetary benefits and global tariffs are up 5.0% in our favor.

September 1
Manchu has the province of Hamgyeong under siege.

January 14
We send an army back to Ninguta as Manchu has tried to take it back with a small force.

April 16
We have begun the siege on Khanka. Ming has Hei Long Iang, Sangxing and the Manchurian capitol of Hinggan under siege. Wusului is their only unoccupied province remaining.

May 31
A Manchurian army of 9,000 attempts to regain control of Sanxing. The Ming forces are beaten back, I head in to take on the Manchurians.

August 14
We beat them back, but prefer to maintain our hold on Khanka.

September 29
Manchu begins to try and take Haixi back.

October 24
Scandal at the Court!

I take the blame, lose 1 stability and move on.

October 26
PEACE!

We have reached a peace agreement with the Manchu. They have ceded the province of Ninguta to us, as well as 21 ducats.

We gain 5 prestige for completing our mission.

A short skip from Japan is the uncolonized land of Shiribeshi. It only has a tax value of 1, but it only has 500 very docile natives and makes for a great place to start our expansion.

We invest in Overseas Expansion, our newest idea from the Exploration Ideas group. Our Colonial Range has been increased by 50%. As soon as we have colonized Shiribeshi, we will head for Taiwan, which already has a worth of 4 gold.

We have also learned our first Korean Idea: The Hanguel Alphabet. Technology Cost has gone down 5%.

1468
July 6
Believe it or not, I had forgotten to make Ninguta a core. We've begun that work now, it will be done in 16 months.

November 4
The Nobles Demand old rights. We accept their demands to avoid losing stability. Our revolt risk is down 1 and our national tax modifier is down 10%.

1469

+1.1 Prestige.

The new province has 1.04 tax, 2.15 production for a total of 3.19. 1.7 trade power, 1.95 trade value and 1.01 goods produced. That good is fish. Lots of fish.

We hail this as an omen.

-1 stability, back to -2 overall.

1471
February 4
It only took forever, but we recovered our manpower! 5 prestige and 10 army tradition.

Our next mission is to fortify Shiribishi.

March 12
We send our diplomats to Oirat Horde and Manchu. I've noticed Manchu is building a rather large army.

We send our colonist to Kamikawa, which is north of Shiribeshi. It only has one ducat output, but that's okay. We're looking to dominate the area. As it is, Shiribishi has a land bridge onto the bulk of Japan. The three provinces above us.

Anyway, Kamikawa has 500 natives of limited aggressiveness and ferocity. Our colony should be cool there without any support.

1476
May 5
We have maxed relations with Ayutthaya.

June 28
U Ma heads to Shiba a fledgling nation on Japan.
They are one of two remaining power group on Japan that has some love for us. Ouchi, Japan, Uesugi have no love for us. Shimazu doesn't mind us either.

We also take a mission to turn Kamikawa into a city.

1478
April 2
We repay a 29 ducat loan.

June 1
Shiba has disappeared, swallowed up by Japan.

June 21
Kamikawa will supply fish.

June 22
We have entered a royal marriage with Assam.

November 12
We lose 10 prestige ignoring the noble on our land tech being useless.

In the map below you've seen our modest expansion. Taiwan in the south along the Ming border and Shiribeshi and the current colonization of Kamikawa.

Ignore the hint option, I never think to disable it

Pyongan has been hit with plague and will produce 10% less goods over the next 3 years.

November 19
We have gained a general with 100 tradition after an unheralded commoner surprised all in attendance by besting everyone who face him! We lose 25 prestige and legitimacy.

1481
January 6
We have maxed relations with Lan Na.

March 1
Dae Jang heads for Champa to improve relations.

April 3
Kamikawa has become self-sustaining! We gain some prestige.

We have maxed relations with Dai Viet.

Our next mission is to colonize Pose. Far to the south of Taiwan. The uncolonized province shares land with Bone and Menade (also uncolonized) and the Makassar people.

Pose is said to have 6,000 very aggressive natives. We'll send a troops of six to meet our colonist.

September 4
We reach Pose and begin colonizing. We gain Colonial Enthusiasm for 5 years increasing settler chance and global settler increase.

The troops also reach Pose to protect and serve.

Our next mission is to remove Makassar from the map. They border Pose.

September 12

October 4
We easily take out Makassar's 1,000 troops and begin our siege.

We split the army in half and send a portion of them back to Pose.

1482
February 20
I order an Earth Rampart built in Kamikawa.

August 28
We begin construction on an armory in Ninguta.

November 2
We begin to colonize Pose. Third time's the charm?

We move the troops from Makassar in. A calculated risk, but we are sending another 3,000 down from the mainland.

November 15
We gain a trade income modifier through the Trade Expansion event.

November 27
3,000 brave troops hold off 5,000 natives on Pose.

The 10 colonists living there are thankful.

December 4
We begin to improve relations with our new neighbor, Brunei. They are Sunni, so we don't mesh there.

Majapahit to the south is Hindu and we can marry to them.

In the map below you get a clearer view of the east as a whole. In the south you can see the recently conquered Makassar and Pose just to the east of Brunei. Majapahit is the dark red nation south of Brunei. You may also note the huge potential for expansion through the islands here. This is how we will dominate the Pacific Ocean.

Went to go back to the game, realized I hadn't done an actual hard save since the 1475 post. Looks like I am going to have to edit back to there and go ahead.
