Vargas Pounds HR #300
Thursday, April 16th, 2026: It was a great day for Rafael Vargas, but not a good one for his Havana Banana Sluggers. The 35-year-old third baseman reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the St Louis Hops, who came away with a 4-3 victory. Vargas finished the day with 1 hit, 1 run batted in and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

As far as career numbers Vargas has compiled a .235 batting average and collected 1382 hits, 300 home runs and 1034 RBIs.

Ken wasn't left with a whole lot when he took over the team. So he had a ton of holes to fill.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2026: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Juan Vargas just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 23-year-old second baseman for Waikiki hit .343 with 34 hits, 1 home run and 24 runs batted in. He also logged 10 walks and compiled a .404 on-base percentage.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2026: Youngster Willie Hobbs emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chicago deserved the honor, batting .315 with 1 home run and 19 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Hobbs enjoy the limelight.

Rodríguez's Hit Streak Over
Wednesday, May 20th, 2026: The hitting streak that Portland shortstop Juan Carlos Rodríguez had going was ended today by the New York Legends. Rodríguez, who had hits in his previous 35 games, was stymied today, but the rest of his team picked him up, earning the Axemen a 5-4 victory at Legends Stadium. He was hitless in 5 at-bats.

"Hitting streaks come and go. One good thing came out of it, however, it perked up my batting average a little bit, but did put a little pressure on me. It's hard to be natural at the plate with the streak always in the back of your mind. If it had to end, I'm glad it was in a win."

So far this year Rodríguez has 3 home runs and a .322 batting average.

Juan Carlos Rodriguez's 35 game hitting streak is the longest in FOOL-X since Spring's Robby LaVergne's 35 game hitting streak back in 1980.

May's #1 Starter Named in RL
Monday, June 1st, 2026: Doug McDonah's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in May, the 27-year-old New York hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 32 in 36 innings, logged an ERA of 2.00 and allowed opponents to hit .168 against him.

For the season McDonah has logged 6 wins and 2 losses and struck out 60 batters in 63.1 innings while compiling a 2.70 ERA.

Continental League Announces Best Starter
Monday, June 1st, 2026: Veteran Jim Carr put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Oshawa Mullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Carr racked up a 3-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.83 ERA over 39.1 innings and striking out 17.

In 11 starts this year Carr has posted 6 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 64.2 innings, allowed 57 hits, struck out 38 and has a 1.95 ERA.

Martínez Takes Home RL Top Batter Award
Monday, June 1st, 2026: May was a good month for Santiago Martínez. The New York right fielder had his way with opposing pitchers all month while posting a .398 batting average and was selected as the Republic League Batter of the Month.

Last month Martínez put up some solid numbers: 15 home runs, 39 RBIs, 30 runs scored and a .463 on-base percentage.

Martínez is currently hitting at a .351 pace with 19 home runs and 54 RBIs.

CL Honors Cardona, #1 Batter in May
Monday, June 1st, 2026: Enrique Cardona battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Cardona told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Cardona hit .419 with 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 32 runs.

For the year Cardona has hit .359 with 5 home runs, 35 RBIs and scored 39 runs.

RL Names Mendoza Best Rookie
Monday, June 1st, 2026: José Mendoza earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Cleveland right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Mendoza hit .344 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Mendoza is batting at a .293 clip with 7 home runs and 31 RBIs.

May's Premier CL Rookie Named
Monday, June 1st, 2026: Willie Hobbs is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Chicago hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .306 average with 30 hits, 2 home runs and 19 RBIs.

Hobbs on the season is hitting .310 with 3 home runs. His stats include 38 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Something I learned from the TV at the gas pump this morning: The U.S. census considers anyone who speaks Spanish to be "Hispanic" regardless of their race.

Whoa, I just earned a whole new label!

Pak Slugs 300th Home Run
Monday, June 8th, 2026: St Cloud's 6-2 victory over St Louis was highlighted by Hyun-koo Pak's 300th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Pak said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Raindrops right fielder collected 4 hits in his historic game, scored 3 runs, and had 1 run batted in.

During his career Pak has played in 1518 games, batted .281 with 300 home runs and 1660 base hits.

Chávez Booms 400th Homer
Wednesday, June 10th, 2026: The Cleveland Naps had something to celebrate today even though they dropped a 12-2 decision to Ann Arbor. The reason -- the splendid slugger Jorge Chávez hit his 400th career homer in today's contest at Ballpark of Cleveland.

"I'm fortunate to be here," Chávez told the media after the game. "The Naps have a classy organization and some great fans. Homer #400 was for them."

Looking at his all-time stats, Chávez has a career .302 average with 2094 hits, 457 doubles, 78 triples, 400 home runs and 1431 RBIs to date. He has scored 1261 runs, walked 568 times and stolen 277 bases.

Bryant Slams Milestone Homer
Monday, August 3rd, 2026: At Fog Bowl John Bryant smashed his 400th career home run in a game against Havana today. The 34-year-old left fielder had a hand in the St Cloud Raindrops 8-7 victory with 1 home run and 1 RBI. For the day he went 1 hit-3 at-bats.

At the press conference after the game, Bryant downplayed his achievement.

"Obviously, I've hit 400 home runs so I belong in that 400 club. But when you talk about the other guys that have done it, I'm not as good as they were. Those guys were the greatest of all time. I've just been able to scrape together some good years and stayed healthy and gotten there."

Lifetime Bryant has hit for a .253 average and totaled 1825 hits, 400 home runs and 1185 RBIs.
