Draft Format

The draft will take place in this thread once the league has been set up. It is a snake draft. We will start drafting the morning of Monday March 3rd .

The first pick each morning must be made by 10 am eastern time. Then the three hour clock will start for the next pick. Also, lets make the cutoff 10 pm eastern at night so if the final pick is made at 8 pm, the next person has until 10 am eastern time to make his pick. If most people in this league live in the western time zone or central time zone we could adjust this

On weekends the first pick must be made by 2 pm eastern time, we'll *go with a standard 3 hours with a 10 pm eastern time cut off.

If there are problems in that you know your pick is coming up but you won't be online, submit a list either to myself or to a proxy drafter for you. Otherwise, you will get the next player on Yahoo's list. Maybe pick someone who is on the opposite end of the draft from you so that you likely won't be grabbing from the same pool of players anyways.

Opening Day is Monday March 31. If the draft is not complete by Sat March 29th at noon, we will have a quick live draft via AIM (or a program people actually use) to complete the draft on Sunday March 30th at 7pm . Anyone who won't be able to make that will need to submit a list to me, a proxy, or have a proxy in chat (who is not in the league) to finish out their team.

If you miss more than 2 picks in the draft (i.e. time limit expired so a Yahoo rankings pick), particularly in the first 10 rounds, then you can be replaced as manager.

I hate to lay down some of these rules but we're going to be drafting over 250 players so we need to get it done in a timely fashion.

IF YOU CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THIS SCHEDULE, DO NOT JOIN.

I will put the vote up on Ramzavail's keeper idea on the first post so we can keep track on who wants to do it and who doesn't

I've been in a few leagues that used rules like this - they work great but your rules as written caused a bit of stagnation in our leagues when we first adopted them. We adjusted them to make keepers worth the round +2 (or +3), so a keeping a 10th rounder results in losing an 8th rounder, etc. We also declared FAs to be a 15th round pick equivalent.

sure, I think tweaking the idea is a good idea and we can vote on those tweaks after (if it gets passed). I just thinking adding something like this makes it MORE HARDCORE

im in and I like keepers just not as ram indicated

if i pick trout in the 15th round, he should cost alot more than a 14th round pick (I would say +5) and frankly I failed to comprehend the FA part

in and some sort of keepers sounds like a good thing to me.

I would think 1st year at the same amount second year we need more than just a 1 round gain. I like clap's idea of +5..

No on keepers, but if we do use them, +5 rounds sounds about right.

We have had 9 of 12 people respond so far on the first day of the thread. Good hustle people!

Sterlingice got back to me and said he didn't have time to do the league this year which means Toddzilla is on the top of the waiting list.

As far as a keeper league is concerned, I am against it because I think it takes away from the draft which I feel is the main draw of a league like this. Nevertheless, majority rules.

Mizzourah, subby and samifan please make a vote on keepers when you get a chance. If we don't hear from them within the next day or so I will pm them.

Hopefully everyone will join the league within the week so that way we can know whether or not this will be a keeper league. Also if we do decide its a keeper league this gives us some time to figure out the mechanics of it before the draft.

I suppose I can come back - gotta make up for a dismal showing last year

And I am a no on the keepers. Part of the appeal of this league is the redraft aspect - and the rules that Ram proposed are far too convoluted

Limit the number of keepers - say 5 - and you get a keeper league and a meaningful draft

That said - if the keeper idea does pass, I think a better fleshing out of the rules would certainly be needed. I don't think it needs to be quite as complicated as Ram put forth.

We had a 28 round draft last year - having 3 keepers, still makes the draft very meaningful.

for LWSFS and your no vote - "28.4 yasiel puig"

Imagine, if we had keeper rules in place for last year

for all your No votes - all three of you guys would have at least one really good keeper.

Ramz, I'm sure we all have players that would make fine keepers. Doesn't change my opinion on them. I like that the entire league starts fresh and it keeps every team focused on this year.

I'm leaning towards staying in, but I may have difficulty staying active in the draft, due to work schedule. I also may be switching jobs in a month, which could prohibit things. Give me a day to ponder, please.

One more thought on keepers - if they do pass, I would vote that they don't start until the 2015 season (meaning we draft fresh this year). Draft strategy is most certainly affected by a keeper aspect and it wouldn't be right to base 2014 keepers off of last year's draft, when we didn't have keepers in play.

I should bow out this year. I think life will be rather hectic, and there should be someone more able to be dedicated.

Thanks for having me the past couple of years!
