Ping: Fritz
I picked up "The Good War" over the weekend. In spite of a very busy weekend, I still got about 120 pages into it. It's a very good read. Some of the accounts are a bit disturbing, especially the POW's in the Pacific. I appreciate his handling of the language, slang, dialect and all. And is inclusion of laughs, sigh, sobs, etc. during the interviews. It gives a real voice to the men and women in the book. The vivid detail as remembered by the vets is incredible. I think that speaks volumes about what they experienced, seeing as how 30 something years later the memories were fresh to them.
I also scouted out a book from Keegan to read when I am finished with this one. Thanks for the recomendation. |
