The 2010 Seattle Seahawks

After a dissappointing 5-11 season, I am taking over as the GM of the Seattle Seahawks.

I am looking forward to working with a very young team, it may take a few seasons before we can reach the playoffs.

My first priority is make it a competitive training camp and make sure we have some personnel that we can maybe get a look at in the preseason that can improve the club.

To make room on the Roster before the exhibition games started I released:

LT Tyler Polumbus. 25 year old undrafted out of Colorado.
LT Chester Pitts, 31 year old 2002 2nd rounder out of San Diego State.
TE Cameron Morrah, 23 year old 2009 7th rounder out of California.
FL Brandon Stockley, 34 year old 1999 4th rounder out of Louisiana-Lafayette.
TE Jameson Konz, 24 year old out 2010 7th rounder out of Kent State.

Some needs to sign before the exibition games.

1 3rd string QB to keep around in case of injury.
2 DTs, I would like to keep 5 on my 53 man roster, we only have 4 and we are weak at that position.
2 G, I would like to have 4 on my 53 man roster, only have 3 and we are not very strong at the position.

We sign:

LDT Corey Duesenberg, 23 year old out of Memphis, went undrafted. My scout sees some good potential on the pass rush.
RDT Dixon Martin, 23 year old out of North Carolina, went undrafted. My scouts sees him with very good run stopping potential.
LDT Marty Frederick, 23 year old out of Alabama, went undrafted. My scout sees him as a very good pass rusher in the future.
QB Quinn Thorpe, 21 year old out of Washington, went undrafted. My scout sees him as a very accurate passer and good at 3rd down passing in the future.
RG Will Ferguson, a 21 year old out of Arizona State, went undrafted. My scout sees him as a future average run blocker.
LG Damon Russell, a 23 year old out of Indiana, went undrafted. My scout see hims as a very good run and pass blocker.

Entering the 2010 Season, the Seattle Seahawks lost some key players that will be missed and hard to replace.

WR Nate Burleson, 29 year old 8 year player out of Nevada. Burleson was a big play reciever.

QB Senaca Wallace, 30 year old 8 year player out of Iowa State. Wallace gave the Hawks an experienced back up who could scramble in contrast to Hasselback.

G Rob Sims, 27 year old 5 years experience out of Ohio State. Sims was a solid depth Guard.

DE Daryl Tapp, 26 year old with 5 years experience out of Virginia Tech. He could provide a very good pash rush.

DE Patrick Kerney, All Pro with 11 years experience retired.

T Walter Jones, a 4 time All Pro retired at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Some key additions to the Seahawks this season are:

LDE Raheem Brock, a free agent signing in the offseason, the 32 year old will bring 9 years experience as a solid defensive lineman.

RB Leon Washington, Washington came over in a trade from the New York Jets in the off season. The 5 year veteran is only 28 years old and has breakaway speed a very good hole recognition.

RT Stacy Andrews, Andrews came over in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in the off season. The 7 year veteran is 29 years old and is one of the strongest blockers on the team.

The Seattle Seahawks will go into the 2010-11 season with the youngest player age in all of the NFL at a average age of 25.1. The league average is 27.

Some of the exciting young players that the Seahawks have are as follows:

SS Earl Thomas, the 21 year old Thomas was the Seahawks 1st round (14th overall) pick in the 2010 draft. Thomas is expected to be a solid pass defender and excellent at defending the rush as he develops.

OLB Aaron Curry, the 24 year old Curry was the Seahawks 1st round (4th overall) pick in the 2009 draft. The scouts feel that Curry will be an overall good linebacker, but his strength will be run defense.

WR Golden Tate, the 22 year old Tate was the Seahawks 2nd round pick in 2010. The scouts say he should develop into a solid route runner that can adjust to the ball.

RDE E.J. Wilson, the 23 year old Wilson was the Hawks 4th round pick in the 2010 draft. The scouts feel that Wilson will develop into an excellent pass rusher and solid run defender.

LDT Kentwan Balmer, the 24 year old Balmer was the Hawks 2008 1st round pick (29th overall). The scouts fell that Balmer has the tools to be an above average run defender and solid pass pass rusher.

LT Russell Okung, the 23 year old Okung was the Hawks 2010 1st round (6th overall pick). The scouts think that Okung will become a solid all around offensive lineman.

The Exhibition games strategy will be to get as many of the rookies as possible into the first two games letting veterans come in for games 3 and 4. First up is the Tennesse Titans on August 14th, 2010.

Preparing for the Season Opener

The Seahawks will face the San Fransisco 49ers to start the season on September 12th in Seattle. The Roster is still at 60 and we must cut it down to 53.

My first cut is to trim down the RBs to 3 so we will cut Julius Jones. He was rarely used in the exibition games. The 29 year old Jones has 7 years experience in the NFL and was orginally drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round in 2004.

The next cut is FB Quinton Ganther. The 26 year old was originally drafted by the Tennesse Titans in the 7th round.

The next cut is RF Evan Dietrich-Smith. The 24 year old guard was undrafted and signed as a free agent in the off season.

The next cut is DE Brandon Mebane. The 25 year old Mebane was a 3rd round pick in the 2007 draft for the Seahawks.

The next cut is DT Junior Siavii. The 32 year old Siavii was originally the 2nd round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004.

The next cut is SS Lawyer Milloy. The 37 year old Milloy was originally a 2nd round pick of the New England Patroits in 1996

The last cut was QB Quentin Thorpe. The 21 year old undrafted Thorpe did not get any exhibition game action and does not fit into the immediate plans of the team.

Power Ratings

The Top 5 teams are:
New Orleans Saints 100

Game Planning the San Fransisco 49ers.

Tendencies:

The 2009 San Fransisco 49ers finished the season 8-8

The 49ers ran the ball 41.3% of all their offensive plays (average)
Defensive Rushing Average 3.60 yards per carry (very good)
Defensive Rushing Yards of 100 yards per game (very good)
Defensive Passing Percentage of 60.5 % (average)
Defensive Passing Yards of 229 yards per game (fair)

The Defensive Game Plan against the 49ers will be the Seahawks Dee Dawg 3 (TM) Defense that primarily will be in Run defense 40% of the time on 1st down and split the rest between Pass and Aggressive Pass defense.

The Offensive Game Plan against the 49ers will be the Seahawks Offensive Game Plan 19 (TM) which is will have us throwing about 55% of the time in 1st down with a balance between long and short passing.

A majority of our running plays will be designed to go to the right side to take advantage of LCB Tarell Brown and LDE Ray MacDonald. I bumped up the pass protection because the 49ers have 5 excellent pass rushers in Aubrayo Franklin, Justin Smith, Manny Lawson, Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes.

San Fransisco 49ers (-1) at Seattle Seahawks.

First Half:

The Seahawks recieve the kick off and after an illegal block, the Hawks will start 1st and 10 at thier own 11 yard line. On 3rd and 6 from the Seahawks 15, Hasselback completes a 36 yard pass to TE Chris Baker, but he fumbles and San Fransisco's Nate Clements returns it to the Seahawks 39 yard line.

The first play for the 49ers is a 19 yard run by RB Frank Gore and the 49ers reach the Hawks 20. The Hawks defense toughens up and after 2 straight incompletions, QB David Carr hits WR Wade Highcove for a -1 yard pass and will force a FG attempt. Joe Nedney hits a 38 yard FG and the score is SF 3 SEA 0. (11:49 1st).

After the kickoff the Seahawks will start at their own 36 yard line. For the Hawks offense it was an 3 and out with Max Unger giving up a sack to LB Takeo Spikes for a 6 yard loss and will force a punt on 4th and 8. Ted Ginn calls for a fair catch at the SF 33 yard line.

After a holding call overturned a 1st down on 3rd and 1 for the 49ers, David Carr gets his 3rd and 11 pass picked off by S Earl Thomas at the SEA 44 yard line.

On the very first play Hasselback is sacked for a second time and another loss of 6 yards, this time by DT Aubrayo Franklin. After a false start penalty and a short run by Hasselback then by Dorsett, the Hawks are faced with a 4th and 17 at their own 37 yard line. Jon Ryans punt is fair caught by Ted Ginn at the SF 20.

The 49ers David Carr completes 1 of 3 attempts which goes for 5 yards and will force a 4th and 5 punt from the SF 25. Andy Lees punt goes out of bounds at the SEA 32.

On 2nd and 10, Matt Hasselback hits RB Leon Washington for a 27 yard pass and the Hawks 1st first down of the season with 3:44 left in the 1st quarter. It will be 1st and 10 at the SF 41. On 3rd and 10, Hasselback connects with WR Ben Obomanu for 23 yards and the Seahawks are at the SF 18. The Seahawks are unable to convert on 3rd and 5 and will be forced to attempt a FG. Olindo Mare hits the 30 yard FG and the score is SEA 3 SF 3 (1:11 1st )

After the kickoff, the 49ers will start from their own 23 yard line. The 49ers gain 2 yards on a 1st down running play on the final play of the 1st quarter. (End of 1st quarter) The Seattle defense stalls Carr and his offense in another 3 and out and the 49ers will be punting from thier own 29 yard line. Andy Lee punts it 46 yards, Deon Butler returns it 6 yards to the SEA 31.

On a 2nd and 3 play, Leon Washington took the hand off for a 9 yard gain and a 1st down at the SEA 47. On 1st down, Hasselback is sacked for the 3rd time, this time for a loss of 4 yards by LB Travis LaBoy. The drives stalls on a 3rd and 10 incompletion and the Hawks will have to punt. Jon Ryan punts it 43 yards but Ted Ginn finds a seam on the return and brings it back 14 yards to the SF 24.

The 49ers are frustrated again by the Hawks defense and fail to convert on a 3rd and 4 play and will have to punt from their own 28. David Carr is only 4 for 10 so far in the game for 5 passing yards. A big punt of 53 yards by Andy Lee and a 10 yard return by Deon Butler has the Hawks starting at their own 29 yard line.

After a 5 yard loss on a running play, Leon Washington takes the 2nd down hand off for 26 yards and a 1st down at the mid field stripe. The Hawks catch a break when the 49ers are called for Unnessary Roughness and a 15 yard penalty takes it to the SF 35. On the very next play, Hasselbacks pass is picked off by CB Nate Clements at the SF 17. Its the Hawks 2nd turnover.

On 3rd and 3, the Hawks defense stiffens up and stuffs RB Anthony Dixons rush attempt for a 3 yard loss. The 49ers will have to punt on 4th and 6 from their own 21. Another huge punt by Andy Lee, he hits it for 56 yards and Deon Butler losses 2 more yards on the return and the Hawks will start at the SEA 21.

On 2nd and 10 from the 21, Leon Washington takes the Hasselback pitch on the trap play and takes it the distance for a 79 yard TD run. Olindo Mare hits the point after to make it SEA 10 SF 3 (6:11 2nd)

After the kickoff, Wade Highcove returns it to the SF 19. The Hawks defense forces another 3 and out with Red Bryant putting pressure and forcing a Carr incompletion. Carr is now 7 for 14 on the day and the 49ers who have been held to just 1 First down will be punting from the SF 22. After the 42 yard punt and 1 yard return by Jordan Babineaux, Seattle will start at the SEA 37.

The Hawks get a break on 2nd down when Marshawn Lynch fumbles after getting the First down, but Ben Obomanu recovers it on the SEA 48. On 2nd and 5, Hasselback hits TE John Carlson for 14 yards and a 1st down at the SF 33. On first down, Hasselback and WR Deon Butler connect for another 15 yards to the SF 18 as we hit the 2 minute warning. This time its the 49er defense that comes up big, stopping Marshawn Lynch on a 3rd and 1 try for a 1 yard loss and forcing a 4th down from the SF 10. Olindo Mare's 27 yard FG was blocked and the 49ers will get the ball at the SF 22 with 0:53 left in the half.

The 49ers were again unable to get a 1st down and were forced to punt on the last play of the half..

At the Half:

The Seahawks dominated most of the statiscal areas. The Hawks had 9 first downs compared to the 49ers having just one. Total net yards favored Seattle by 259 to 64. Seattle did have 133 rushing yards, but 79 of that was on Washingtons TD romp. The Hawks held Carr to just 49 yards passing while Hasselback threw for 126 yards. Hasselback was 10-20 while Carr was 9-16. Niether team was effective on 3rd down, San Fransisco was 0 for 8 while Seattle was 1 for 7.

Second Half:

San Fransisco will start at the 20 after the touchback to start the half. On 2nd and 11, the 49ers have a 1st down erased with a Offensive Holding call bringing up 2 and 20. But the Hawks pay them back with a 3rd down penalty for Holding and give the 49ers a 1st down at thier own 19. The 49er offense stalls again and forced to punt, after a 51 yard punt, a Seattle penalty for Illegal use of hands, the Hawks will start at the SEA 18.

On 2nd and 1, Marshawn Lynch rushes for 14 yards to the SEA 41 and a 1st down. On 3rd and 4, Hasselback hooks up with WR Golden Tate for a 9 yard pass and a 1st down at the SF 44. The Hawks are unable to convert on 3rd and 5 and Ryan will punt from the SF 39. Unfortunately he is unable to pin the 49ers and its a touchback.

Offensive holding on the very first play forces 1st and 20 from the SF for the 49ers. On 3rd and 10, Raheem Brock put pressure on Carr and he was unable to connect with WR Josh Morgan for another 3 and out. Andy Lee is forced to punt, and he hits another beauty for 57 yards, Deon Butler fumbles the return and 49ers Barry Sims picks it up and runs it in for a 28 yard fumble return TD. Joe Nedney hits the point after and its now SEA 10 SF 10 (6:35 3rd)

Nedneys kickoff goes for a touchback, on 3rd and 8 Hasselback hits Deion Branch for a 3 yard pass and it will force 4th and 5 from the SEA 25. Jon Ryan's punt goes 54 yards and Williams James returns it 8 yards to the SF 29.

On 1st and 10, David Carr completes a 10 yard pass to FB Moran Norris for the 49ers 3rd first down of the game. He then hits WR Kyle Williams for another 11 yards and back to back 1st downs to mid field. The 49ers thought they had a 3rd completion is a row, but a Holding penalty puts them into 1st and 20 from the SF 40. David Carr then hits WR Michael Crabtree for 22 yards and a 1st down at the SEA 38 while improving to 15 for 25. On 2nd and 8, Anthony Dixon takes the handoff and rushed for 9 yards and another 1st down to the SEA 27. On the next play, Carr lobs a short pass to TE Vernon Davis but he takes it for another 15 yards and a 22 yard pass play and a 1st down at the SEA 5. Carr then throws three straight incomplete passes and it will force a 4th and goal from the 5. Joe Nedney hits the 22 yard FG to make it SF 13 SEA 10 (1:37 3rd)

After the touchback, the Seahawks will start at the SEA 20. Hasselback connects with RB Leon Washington on the screen pass for 13 yards and a 1st down to the SEA 33. On the next play, this time Leon Washington rushed the ball for 12 more yards and 145 on the day for another 1st down. Hasselback then hits WR Mike Williams for 12 yards on 1st down and they march the ball to the SF 45. (End of the 3rd quarter) On 2nd and 5, Hasselback is sacked for the 4th time and a 8 yard loss by OLB Manny Lawson. The Hawks are unable to convert 3rd and 13 and will punt from the SF 48. Jon Ryans punt goes for a touchback.

On 1st down, David Carr hits WR Michael Crabtree for 25 yards and a 1st down at the SF 45. On 2nd and 6, Anthony Dixon runs around the left end for 6 yards and a 1st down at the SEA 45. On 3rd and 4, David Carr connects with WR Michael Crabtree for another 16 yards and a 1st down at the SEA 23. On 2nd and 10, DE Raheem Brock breaks free and sacks David Carr for a 8 yard loss bringing up 3rd and 18. Frank Gore then takes the hand off for 17 yards setting up a 4th and 1 from the SEA 14. The 49ers decide on the points and Joe Nedney connects for the 31 yard field goal and the score is now SF 16 SEA 10 (8:51 4th)

Ben Obomanu returns the Nedney kickoff 23 yards to the SEA 35. A holding call puts the Hawks into 2nd and 18 but on the very next play Hasselbacks hits WR Deion Branch for 13 yards making it a manageable 3rd and 5 from the SEA 40. Hasselback's attempted short pass to TE John Carlson is picked off by ILB Patrick Willis at the SEA 49.

On 2nd and 5, David Carr hits TE Vernon Davis with a short pass and a 9 yard gain for a 1st down at the SEA 35. For the 49ers, after having only 1 first down in the 1st half, they now have 11. The Seattle defense forces a 4th and 2 from the SEA 27. The 49ers sent out Joe Nedney to attempt a 44 yard FG, but Seattles Leroy Hill blocks it and the Hawks will take over at the SEA 31.

The Hawks are called for Holding on 1st down and are now 1st and 20 from the SEA 21 with 2:50 remaining. A 5 yard run and then a 5 yard pass to Leon Washington puts the Hawks into a 3rd and 10 from the SEA 31 as the 2 minute warning is called. Hasselback and WR Deion Branch are unable to connect on 3rd down so the Hawks will be forced to attempt a 4th down play. Hasselback is under pressure by Travis LaBoy and Will Ferguson and hurries his pass to WR Golden Tate and it goes incomplete. The ball is turned over on downs at the SEA 31 with 1:43 left.

After a False start penalty, its 1st and 15 from the SEA 36. Anthony Dixon runs it for 5 yards, Frank Gore runs for 1 and Frank Gore runs it again for 1 bringing up 4th and 13 from the SEA 34. Nedneys FG attempt falls short on his 51 yard attempt, and the Hawks will get the ball at the SEA 41 with 1:12 left and no time outs. On 1st down, Hasselback looks deep for WR Deion Branch, but it goes incomplete. He then hits Golden Tate for 13 yards to the SF 46 with 0:47 left. He spikes the ball with 0:44 left. Ray McDonald hurries Hasselback next attempt for WR Ben Obomanu which brings up 3rd and 10 with 0:37 left. Hasselback attempts a long pass to Deion Branch, but he dropped a very catchable pass bringing up 4th down with 0:26 left. Hasselbeck avoids the rush and tosses a medium pass to WR Golden Tate but he is picked off for the 3rd time as CB Shawntae Spencer puts the game away.

So true, but I am not counting on this group to sneak in the Playoffs like they did in real life....

Game Planning the Denver Broncos

2010 Record (0-1)
2009 Record (8-8)

Tendencies:

The Broncos ran the ball 42.2 % in week 1 (Average)
Defensive Rushing Average of 2.09 per carry (Very Good)
Defensive Rushing of 48 yards per game (Very Good)
Defensive Passing Completion of 62.5% (Fair)
Defensive Passing of 227 yards per game (Fair)
Defensive Short Pass Completion of 70% (Average)
Defensive Short Pass Average of 7.50 per play (Poor)
Defensive Long Pass Completion of 50% (Poor)
Defensive Long Pass Average of 11.00 per play (Poor)

The Defensive Game Plan against the Bronco's will be the Seahawks Dee Dawg 3 (TM) Defense that primarily will be in Run defense 40% of the time on 1st down and split the rest between Pass and Aggressive Pass defense.

The Offensive Game Plan against the 49ers will be the Seahawks Offensive Game Plan 17 (TM) which is will have us throwing about 55% of the time in 1st down with a balance but we will be leaning to increase the long passing percentage (from 27% to 31%). .

The Seahawks go into the game healthy, but the Broncos will be missing TE Daniel Graham and WR Jabar Gaffney who are out with injuries. Both players were injured in week 1. Jabar Gaffney had 54 catches for the Bronco's in 2009, while Graham had 28.

The Seahawks will try to attack the right side for the most part. We will be trying to take advantage of RDE Kevin Vickerson and RCB Andre Goodman while avoiding LDE Justin Bannan and LCB Champ Bailey. This will allow us to avoid the miss-match between Bannan and Hawks RG Will Ferguson.

The Broncos have a pretty good pass rush which includes NT Jamal Williams, SILB D J Williams, WILB Spencer Larsen and WLB Robert Ayers. So we will keep the FB, RB and TE in pass block a little more then we would normally. Hasselbeck will also have to be aware of ball hawks RCB Andre Goodman and FS Brian Dawkins.

The Seahawks will also dial up the Blitz a little more then usual, Kyle Orton is ranked less then average for Sense Rush, Read Defense and Scrambling Ability.

Game Planning the San Diego Chargers

2010 Record (2-0)
2009 Record (13-3)

Tendencies:

The Broncos ran the ball 51.9 % in 2010 (Above Average)
Defensive Rushing Average of 4.58 per carry (Fair)
Defensive Rushing of 91.5 yards per game (Very Good)
Defensive Passing Completion of 55.1% (Very Good)
Defensive Passing of 276 yards per game (Poor)
Defensive Short Pass Completion of 64% (Very Good)
Defensive Short Pass Average of 3.84 per play (Very Good)
Defensive Long Pass Completion of 37.5% (Poor)
Defensive Long Pass Average of 13.38 per play (Poor)

The Defensive Game Plan against the Bronco's will be the Seahawks Dee Dawg 2 (TM) Defense that primarily will be in Run defense of 50% of the time on 1st down and split the rest between Pass and Aggressive Pass defense.

The Offensive Game Plan against the 49ers will be the Seahawks Offensive Game Plan 16 (TM) which is will have us throwing about 52% of the time in 1st down, 22 % Short and 30% Long pass and Run 48%.

The Seahawks go into the game fairly healthy with no starters out of the line-up, but the Chargers will be missing CB Antoine Cason who had 2 INTs for the Chargers last season. FS Eric Weddle will play with a strained Hamstring, he was the Chargers number tackler last season.

The Seahawks will try to attack the right side for the most part. We will be trying to take advantage of RDE Vaughn Martin and back up RCB Donald Strickland while running a bit up the middle to take advantage of Rookie NT Cam Thomas. The Hawks will attempt to avoid LDE Luis Castillo.

The Broncos have a pretty good pass rush which includes LDE Luis Castillo, NT Cam Thomas, RDE Vaughn Martin and WLB Shawne Merriman. So we will keep the FB, RB and TE in pass block a little more then we would normally. The Seahawks will also lower the Blitz a little more then usual, Phillip Rivers is ranked high for Sense Rush, Read Defense and Scrambling Ability.

Game Planning the St Louis Rams

2010 Record (1-2)
2009 Record (1-15)

Tendencies:

The Rams ran the ball 45.8 % in so far this season ( Average)
Defensive Rushing Average of 5.18 per carry (Poor)
Defensive Rushing of 152.0 yards per game (Poor)
Defensive Passing Completion of 55.9% (Very Good)
Defensive Passing of 157.7 yards per game (Very Good)
Defensive Short Pass Completion of 73% (Fair)
Defensive Short Pass Average of 5.13 per play (Average)
Defensive Long Pass Completion of 28.6% (Average)
Defensive Long Pass Average of 7.00 per play (Good)

The Defensive Game Plan against the Bronco's will be the Seahawks Dee Dawg 3 (TM) Defense that primarily will be in Run defense of 40% of the time on 1st down and split the rest between Pass and Aggressive Pass defense.

The Offensive Game Plan against the 49ers will be the Seahawks Offensive Game Plan 10 (TM) which is will have us throwing about 54% of the time in 1st down, 25 % Short and 21% Long pass and Run 46%.

The Seahawks will be without starting QB Matt Hasselbeck and RB Marshawn Lynch. Charlie Whitehurst will start at QB. S Earl Thomas is expected to start dispite having a bruised shoulder that was injured during Week 3. The Rams go into the game with some bumps and bruises but all their regular starters are playing. Veteran RDT Fred Robbins has a sprained ankle but will play, MLB James Laurinaitis has a strained quad, but will play

Basically with a very young Offensive Line we will be playing in a Offensive scheme which will keep our Backs in pass Block more then average. That may adjust in the 2nd half of the season.

We will run slightly more to the left against the Rams, but we feel that our O-Line vs their D-Lines presents no more advantages to run in any significant direction today.
