2033 Games 1-4

Luca Robinson records three sacks as we plummet the Colts in an emotional 26-3 win against our former coach. The Rams are our next visitors, and we win comfortably 20-9. We've not conceded a touchdown in our first two games for the first time in franchise history, and it's our first 2-0 start since 2021. We head on the road and are beaten by the Chiefs 28-17, but have better fortune a week later against the Jets, winning 20-10.

At 3-1, we share leadership of the AFC South with the Texans.

2033 Games 5-8

A huge offensive game as we beat the Dolphins 27-20. Klein passes for 251 yards, Stevens for 201, Hancock receives for 219 yards (a franchise record), and rookie Levi Raymond contributes 150 yards, a rookie record. Stevens is questionable for the next game with a sprained knee. Klein gets the start against the Colts, produces the best passing performance of his career (105.7 passer rating) and we move to 5-1 with a 20-10 win. Next week, he throws for four touchdowns and four picks but we hold on to beat the Titans 31-17. To end the month, we travel to Buffalo (who must have a clause in the NFL to never travel across the Atlantic Ocean - their last trip was in 2020! The Bills are unbeaten but we dominate 36-17 to move to 7-1, equaling last year's win total.

Where has this form been for the past nine seasons?

Luca Robinson is playing like a man possessed, with ten sacks already on the season, and he will almost certainly beat his career best of 11. Lukas Hancock has 820 receiving yards already this year, and eight touchdowns with no drops. Collectively, our two-headed quarterback monster has 15 touchdowns and 11 picks with 1995 yards.

Lukas Hancock receives three touchdowns in a 30-12 thumping of the Pats. That's our eighth win of the season, snapping a streak of five losing seasons. The next week, we record our highest ever score in franchise history with a 51-3 thrashing of the Texans on their home turf. That puts us five games clear of the Texans and practically sews up the division for us. The two-headed quarterback monster is on display again with Stevens passing for 158 yards and 3 TDs, and Klein 149 yards and a touchdown on just 8 attempts. Stevens gets the game all to himself the next week as we beat Arizona 34-27 on the road to go to 10-1 and set a new franchise mark of eight consecutive wins. The win also locks up the AFC South title! We lose safety Kim Dangelo for the rest of this season and most of 2034 with a torn quadriceps muscle. Back on home soil, Pittsburgh takes a 22-0 lead before London fights back to 22-16. The comeback falls short when a safety is conceded and the winning streak is over.

Four more games until the playoffs! We are in clear second place in the AFC, two games ahead of #3 Buffalo, and one game behind #1 Denver.

We surrender a 13-3 halftime lead to go down to the Seahawks in the last minute of extra time. That's it for our roadtrips in 2033; the next time we jump on a plane could well be to Denver for the AFC Championship game. We close cornerback Jay Guilford for the rest of the season. After sticking with us for eight seasons, it is cruel that he will probably not get to play for us again. We move on to play the Titans, and win easily 31-10. This time, we lose LT Deion Randle with a strained patellar tendon, although he may be back for the playoffs. Rob Stevens throws for 361 yards and four touchdowns in a 37-23 win against the Niners at Wembley, both being his personal career bests. We need to keep most of our starters on the field for the season closer as a second round bye isn't quite locked up, but feel confident in giving Klein a start, and we get the job done against Houston, winning 14-5. We lose rookie wide receiver sensation Levi Raymond with a seperated shoulder. Bugger!

That means we finish the season 13-3, with more wins than Tennessee and Houston put together. Oh, and do you remember we traded for Oakland's first round pick in 2034? They finished with a 2-14 record. We have the first overall pick in next year's draft!

Our quarterbacks end up with 4245 yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 picks. Stevens by himself contributed 3121 yards, 25 touchdowns and 9 picks. Donovan Wallace ended up just shy of 1000 yards for the season. We have two 1000-yard receivers, with Levi Raymond having 1095 yards and 9 touchdowns in his rookie season. Lukas Hancock has set new Monarchs records with 1605 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, as well as 2213 all-purpose yards. Luca Robinson finished with 14 sacks, some way short of the club record held by Michael Johnson. Donnie McConnell's 32 hurries go close to setting a new club record. Kicker Xander Echevarria sets a club rookie record with 151 points.

2033 AFC Divisional Round Game
(London's first playoff game since 2023)
Baltimore Ravens (11-6) at London Monarchs (13-3)

The Ravens got on the board early with a touchdown run by Bentley Hardig. London were able to get to the Ravens 11 and add a field goal to start the second quarter. Hardig extended the lead to 14-3, following two critical conversions by the Ravens on 3rd and 15 and 4th and 1. The crowd would have been pleased by Luca Robinson sacking the Ravens QB and recovering a fumble which ultimately led to rookie Tyrus Panahi punching in a touchdown after the two minute warning. Baltimore was intercepted on the cusp of halftime and took a 14-10 lead to the sheds.

London received the ball first in the second half and rode down the field on the back of Donovan Wallace, although it was rookie Panahi who crossed for his second touchdown. Monarchs 17-14. Ravens QB Curtis Dawkins heaved the ball down the field and set up a field goal opportunity for his side. Game level. The fourth quarter started with the Ravens getting the ball back and running a seven minute drive for Hardig to get his third touchdown. 24-17 Ravens. The Monarchs would take the ball down to the Ravens 2, although penalties and drops would see London settle for a field goal. The teams then engaged in defensive warfare, forcing the other side to punt the ball away on three succesive drives. London drove the ball down to the Baltimore 15 by the time the two minute warning sounded, trailing by 4 points. On 3rd and 9, the Monarchs were penalised for delay of game, and the decision to go for it on fourth down was radioed in to Rob Stevens, who would find Lukas Hancock running across the field, but forced out of bounds a yard short of a new set of downs. London burned their three timeouts on the Baltimore possession and got the ball back with 57 seconds remaining and 48 yards to go. The Monarchs could only advance it 20 yards before time ran out. Baltimore had won, the third road team that week to win.

Code:
1Q: 08:41 BAL 7 LON 0 - Bentley Hardig 6 run (Dexter Becker extra point) 2Q: 13:42 BAL 7 LON 3 - Xander Echevarria 28 field goal 2Q: 05:50 BAL 14 LON 3 - Bentley Hardig 8 run (Dexter Becker extra point) 2Q: 01:56 BAL 14 LON 10 - Tyrus Panahi 2 run (Xander Echevarria extra point) 3Q: 10:37 LON 17 BAL 14 - Tyrus Panahi 7 run (Xander Echevarria extra point) 3Q: 08:20 LON 17 BAL 17 - Dexter Becker 34 field goal 4Q: 14:32 BAL 24 LON 17 - Bentley Hardig 7 run (Dexter Becker extra point) 4Q: 10:22 BAL 24 LON 20 - Xander Echevarria 24 field goal

Detroit would go on to win the Super Bowl against the Ravens 23-19.

Lukas Hancock and Donnie McConnell would earn All-League First Team honours.

Now for the next season, our last at Wembley before we move into our new home!

Off Season

RCB Jay Guilford retired. After winning a ring with the Rams in 2025, he devoted the last eight years of his career with the Monarchs and was cut down by injury right on the cusp of his return to the playoffs. He is our interception record holder with 31, just ahead of original Monarch John Cyprien. He started 114 games altogether.

We have the first and 27th picks of the draft, and although there is no quarterback really deserving of the first choice, we are awestruck by a defensive prospect who has red ratings everywhere, so much that we shift Donnie McConnell to weakside linebacker where his ratings drop to 27/50. Best be off to the weights room, Donnie!

We re-sign Lukas Hancock and Cameron Jasper to new contracts, although we have to release Patrick Whitney due to salary cap constraints. He will be a prime target in free agency.

We try to sign monster Cardinals linebacker Xander Peace (87/87) in free agency but he spurns us for the Redskins.

In the draft, we take Kevin Walker with the first overall pick. Although his rating of 41/74 was a tad below what we expected with his combine scores, we are still very happy to have him on board. Rather than trade our other first pick for a future first pick, we cash it in, and unfortunately he's a bit of a bust.

1.01 - RDE Kevin Walker (41/74)
1.27 - LT Giovanni Testaverde (24/38)
2.27 - RB Neal Ragone (23/45)
3.01 - SS Gael Campbell (21/61)
3.27 - LDT Darrell Newton (18/37)
4.27 - LT Ernest Blankenship (25/48)
5.01 - LDT Vinny Robinson (18/42)
5.27 - FL Phillip Preston (18/38)
6.27 - LG Jeremiah Kramer (14/44)
7.27 - LG Duane Flannery (15/38)

Rob Stevens begins a holdout. He's now the second-rated quarterback on the roster behind Klein, and is asking for superstar money. He's not getting a cent more from me, and is released after he fails to turn up to training camp.

Cameron Jasper breaks his clavicle in pre-season and will miss the first weeks of the season. In our second last game, Reion Randle breaks his fibula and will be out for eight weeks, while Lucas Coutant is questionable with a hamstring. That's two-fifths of our offensive line right there.

The last season at Wembley begins with a bang. Monarchs win 34-19 and Jayden Klein throws for a career-best four touchdowns and a franchise-record 427 passing yards. Levi Raymond hauls in three touchdowns. Klein proves it was no fluke with 426 yards the next week as we outlast Philadelphia 35-28. Our injury ward piles up with Joe McDonald (11 weeks) and Tyrus Panahi (7 weeks) gone. Next week, shock horror, Buffalo visits Wembley! We storm home with a 34-22 win, two touchdowns in the final two minutes. We finish the quarter with a close 19-10 win against the Raiders.

After four games, Klein has 9 touchdowns and 2 picks, with 1332 yards. The main beneficiaries of his passing are Levi Raymond (361 yards, 6 touchdowns) and Lukas Hancock (414 yards, 1 touchdown). Lucas Robinson already has 10 hurries for the season.

We leave it to the last moment to beat the Colts 24-19, with Neal Ragone scoring his first touchdown of his career. Hancock hauls in 172 yards. Do you have him on your fantasy team? Klein is named the player of the game the next week as we beat the Titans 26-23 on the road. Scores were locked 20-20 after four quarters, and Tennessee opened with a field goal, but London replied with a touchdown pass from Klein to Raymond. The winning streak comes to an end at Arrowhead as we lose to the Chiefs 28-22. The Broncos head to Wembley for the final time and we hand them a 27-13 loss, which is their first loss of the season. That could be a critical match as we now have the tiebreaker over them.

It's a hotly contested AFC this year, with Buffalo (7-2) breathing down our necks, as well as Kansas City (6-2).

Jayden Klein has an incredible 2561 passing yards after just eight games, along with 16 touchdowns and 7 picks. Raymond has 846 yards and 9 touchdowns, and Hancock has 874 yards and 4 touchdowns. Luca Robinson is still our premier defender with 15 hurries and 5.5 sacks.

A danger game against the Chargers. Klein is picked off three times but we manage to outlast the locals 12-0. A week later, we are struggling against the Texans and Klein throws two more picks, and coach Niko puts in Kirk Marcum (remember him?) into the mix. He throws an 85 yard touchdown with his first pass. We lose 37-30. However, we're back to our usual selves the next week against the Cowboys, winning 31-17 with 324 passing yards from Klein. We finish the quarter with a win at Baltimore, coming from 14-7 down to be victorious 24-14. Hancock has a massive 167 receiving yards.

Klein is on track for the franchise record of 4405 passing yards, and could even have a tilt at the league record of 5106.

The single-season receiving record of 1665 yards by Oakland's Randal Lingen is under deep threat from Lukas Hancock (1303) and Levi Raymond (1171).

We are first in almost every offensive category. This team deserves a championship.

Hancock hauls in 210 yards in a 27-24 win against Washington. That win seals the AFC South for us. We sack the Texans QB six times and come from behind to win 26-20 at Wembley. The following week, we play our final regular season game at Wembley with style, winning 33-13 against the Giants. Klein breaks the club passing record in this game. Hancock needs just 55 yards in the final game of the season in Indianapolis to claim the league record. We prevail against the Colts by a single point, setting a new club record of 14 wins in a single season. Hancock picks up his required yardage and Raymond picks up his 15th touchdown of the season.

Denver also finishes 14-2, and has a better conference and division record than us. We hold the head-to-head tiebreaker though. If I'm not mistaken, that means we have home field advantage.

We will need to compete in the playoffs without our premier defender Luca Robinson, who separated his shoulder in the final game and will miss the playoffs. So unfair!

2034 AFC Divisional Game
Pittsburgh Steelers (9-8) at London Monarchs (14-2)

Matt Patricia returns to Wembley for the first time in the playoffs, coaching the Steelers for the ninth season.

Just like he did last season, Tyrus Panahi opens the scoring on the Monarchs' first drive. Echevarria added a field goal on the next drive, and when Klein found Hancock on the next drive, London had opened up a 17-0 lead after just 17 minutes. Pittsburgh got themselves onto the board but the reply from London was immediate, Klein to Hancock for 67 yards. The crowd would go into delirium with Klein throwing his third touchdown of the half, and the Monarchs leading 31-7. In fact, the Monarchs scored on every drive of the first half bar the last drive, with a 51 field goal missing short.

The second half was a blur with two more field goals added. London had a thumping 37-7 win in the books in the second last ever game played at Wembley Stadium. A date with history beckoned.

Code:
1Q: 11:10 LON 7 PIT 0 - Tyrus Panahi 2 run (Xander Echevarria extra point) 1Q: 03:03 LON 10 PIT 0 - Xander Echevarria 37 field goal 2Q: 12:33 LON 17 PIT 0 - Lukas Hancock 14 pass from Jayden Klein (Xander Echevarria extra point) 2Q: 10:15 LON 17 PIT 7 - Diego Diminnie 3 run (Bryce Anderson extra point) 2Q: 08:52 LON 24 PIT 7 - Lukas Hancock 67 pass from Jayden Klein (Xander Echevarria extra point) 2Q: 04:04 LON 31 PIT 7 - Kendall Roberson 1 pass from Jayden Klein (Xander Echevarria extra point) 3Q: 07:08 LON 34 PIT 7 - Xander Echevarria 18 field goal 3Q: 02:24 LON 37 PIT 7 - Xander Echevarria 30 field goal

Klein set a franchise record of 437 yards in a playoff game, and Echevarria set a franchise record of 13 points in a playoff game.

2034 AFC Championship Game
Denver Broncos (15-2) at London Monarchs (15-2)

The Monarchs would be facing Ben Ryan in the playoffs for the first time. Ryan had already broken his Super Bowl drought with an apperance in 2029, but there was certainly a feeling in the Monarchs' camp that it was London's time.

Of all the current Monarchs, only Javier Bartoszewicz had any experience of playing with Ben Ryan. The rest of the squad held no apprehensions about facing the Broncos, against whom the Monarchs had had plenty of heartbreak in the past.

The Broncos got on the board first with a chip shot field goal after ten minutes, but London replied immediately with a touchdown pass from Klein to Hancock (you guessed it, didn't you?). London went further ahead in the second quarter with Ephraim punching his way in. Leading 17-3 with four minutes to go, Klein orchestrated another drive with his arms and feet, finding Hancock for a 14 yard touchdown that put the Monarchs up 24-3. Thus it was at halftime.

The Broncos needed to score a touchdown desperately on their first possession of the second half, but instead it came through a defensive play. Rookie Kevin Walker blew through the left tackle and buried Ben Ryan into the turf, picking up the loose ball and marching nine yards to put London up 31-3. On the next drive, Ryan threw an intercept but no Monarchs points would come of it.

The Broncos would go into the endzone during the third quarter and added a field goal to trail 31-13 at the start of the third quarter. Any thoughts about a comeback were laid to rest as Luca Robinson - playing against doctor's orders - forced a fumble and put us into prime position. Klein would find tight end Benjamin Dole and the party was on.

The Broncos would score two late touchdowns but it didn't alter the fact that the game was already decided: LONDON WAS GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!

Isles of Wonder - The London Monarchs (FOF7)

Super Bowl LXIX
Sunday February 4 2035
Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans
London Monarchs (16-2) v Detroit Lions (13-6)

Coached by Kyle Shanahan, the Lions have won two of the past four Super Bowls and are aiming to make themselves the team of the 2030s. Of interest is Tom Myslinski, the Lions' strength and training coordinator, who was a foundation staff member of the Monarchs from 2014 until 2020.

Quarterback Declan Poole (44/44) has been ineffectual in the playoffs, although he has form as the MVP in the 2030 Super Bowl. Discount him at your own risk. Dean McClay (81/81) has been a 1000-yard rusher for each of his first five seasons in the league. Donovan Weadock (82/82) is the Lions' greatest threat at wideout.

On defense, the Lions are lead by tackles Micah Summers (63/63) and Samuel Plezia (70/70). Their coverage is one of the best in the NFL with Geoff Hirschman (74/74) a particular threat. J.B. Joyner (80/80) will be looking to win his first Super Bowl ring at safety, having missed large portions of each of his seven seasons due to injury.

London and Detroit have met on five previous occasions, with the Lions holding a 3-2 advantage.

The game begins with an oddity: two national anthems being performed. "God Save The King" was sung by British actor Brooklyn Beckham. Present in the crowd was Prince George, the heir to the throne. The 21 year-old royal is a renowned fan of the Monarchs.

The Monarchs had the first chance to put points on the board but the scoring play was snuffed out by a fumble. The first quarter ended scoreless.

London got onto the board first with a touchdown run by Tyrus Panahi, who was the main beneficiary from Jayden Klein's work with the pass, with two big gains of 21 and 30 yards. On London's next drive, Klein would cough up the ball in a second fumble, allowing Detroit to open their account with a field goal. London extended their lead with a Klein to Hancock play which went for 40 yards, Hancock making 14 yards after the catch had been completed.

Declan Poole went three-and-out and Jayden Klein came all the way back with gains of 26 and 31 yards before finding Levi Raymond for 8 yards. London took a 21-3 lead into halftime.

Across London, where it was two o'clock in the morning local time, fans were in raptures. The largest gathering was in Hyde Park, where an estimated 200,000 fans were watching. Those fans would not have been too happy to see Detroit strike first in the second half, reducing the deficit to 10 points. Klein threw an interception on the next drive and the Lions scored again, making it just a three point game. London went three-and-out to finish the quarter, and Detroit had possession as the final stanza began.

The Lions would take the ball down to the Monarchs 18 line but fate intervened with three dropped passes. Matthew Lombardi stood up and kicked the field goal that levelled scores.

The next drive started promisingly, with gains of 30 and 14 yards to Levi Raymond, but it stalled and London had to kick it away. Detroit completed the comeback and hit the lead in a two minute drive, with big gains of 34 yards and 15 yards. After trailing 3-21, Detroit now lead 28-21.

A special effort would be required. A special effort is what was delivered. Three passes from Klein of 10, 15 and 34 yards, and Lukas Hancock had the tying touchdown. 4:22 to go.

The Lions countered with a two minute drive of their own, with successive gains of 33, 5, 3, 16, 5 and 15 yards to go and go back ahead 35-28.

The two minute warning came and went, and it was all for London to do. A critical gain on 3rd and 9, and an incomplete pass stops the clock with 1:14 to go, with the ball on the London 44. Second and ten, another pass dropped. 57 seconds to go, a pass complete to Hancock for 16 yards. Coach Niko calls a first timeout. 40 yards to go. Another incomplete pass. Detroit are hanging on for dear life. Second and ten, and Klein scrambles for his life. Another timeout burned, 36 yards to go. Third and 6, and it's complete to Raymond! 23 yard gain! And Niko calls the final timeout of the Super Bowl.

First and 10 on the Detroit 13, with 18 seconds to go. Klein steps up, throws to Hancock away from the double coverage and it's a touchdown! Pandemonium ensues. Echevarris makes good with the extra point and the game is tied once again.

Detroit is sacked on their only possession before the clock ticks over to 00:00. They win the coin toss and will receive in extra time.

Poole completes for one yard, then throws incomplete, then is sacked by Kevin Watson for a loss of six yards. Detroit punt it away. Raymond returns it to the London 33. This is our time.

Klein complete to Hancock for 10 yards. Klein complete to Raymond for 31 yards. A rush for 5 yards, a rush for 2 yards, a rush for 1 yard, and then it's time to send out the field goal unit. Xander Echevarria looks up at the sticks, sends the kick on its away, and it's GOOD. LONDON HAS WON THE SUPER BOWL!

Award Winners for 2034:

Super Bowl MVP - Jayden Klein, who had a wonderful game: 34/46-522 4TD 1INT
Just behind him in my reckoning would be WR Lukas Hancock with 12-253 3TD, overshadowing Levi Raymond's 147 yards and 1 touchdown. Klein and Hancock have set league records in both categories.

All-League First Team Quarterback - Jayden Klein
All-League First Team Wide Receivers - Levi Raymond and Lukas Hancock.
All-League Second Team Fullback - Kendall Roberson

How Klein, Raymond or Hancock didn't win MVP or Offensive Player of the Year is beyond me! The MVP went to an Arizona running back who had barely 1100 yards. The offensive player of the year was a Cincinnati running back with 1500 yards and 5 touchdowns. Blah.

Niko Koutouvides was overlooked as coach of the year, instead going to Myron Watson of the Denver Broncos. Yeah, the same Broncos we swamped in the playoffs. Whatever.

Off Season

What is there to do after winning a Super Bowl, but to try and win a second?

Javier Bartoszewicz retired with a Super Bowl ring. He finishes with 9545 yards, 56 touchdowns and 157 games played. It's possible in future his exploits may be overshadowed by the likes of Hancock and Raymond, but 'Barto' gave his whole career to London and that shouldn't be overlooked.

Ben Ryan also retired and we can expect to see him in the Hall of Fame in five years time.

We move into our new palatial stadium, Monarchs Stadium, with its 80000 seats and 300 luxury boxes. I can't wait to sell the place out.

As you'd expect, we keep our staff together.

We give massive extensions to our two star wide receivers. Jayden Klein also gets a good contract extension, to forestall the anticipated holdout. The other player to get a contract extension is Lucas Coutant.

We don't sign anyone in free agency, and trade our first overall pick to the Raiders for a future first round pick. Our third pick was taken off us due to salary cap mischief.

2.32 - G Arnold Daileader (20/58)
4.32 - MLB Devin Bauer (17/39)
5.32 - FL Teddy Abrams (19/32)
6.32 - C Junior Small (27/40)
7.32 - QB Clifton Flowers (6/43)

We sell 78000 season tickets. Fantastic.

Not so fantastic are the pre-season injuries. Robinson out with concussion, Old McDonald has a wrist sprain (E.I.E.I.O), and Lucas Coutant is out for most of this season, with full strength in 2036.

We opened Wembley Stadium with a game against the Texans; how appropriate then that we open the new Monarchs Stadium with a showdown against our division foes. London wins 40-14 in front of a sold-out 80,000 stadium. Off to Tampa Bay where Niko Koutouvides is going up against one of his former teams. They deal us a 23-10 loss, and Levi Raymond plays hurt with a strained hamstring. Off to Buffalo, where we win 22-19 on the back of a fumble recovery touchdown. Injury strikes our other star receiver Hancock, who misses the game against Cincinnati, much to the horror of fantasy owners everywhere. We escape with a 10-6 win, and (aside from our first game) we must be the least convincing 3-1 team in NFL history.

Back to Monarchs Stadium, where we continue our winning ways, in a little more confident fashion too. The Browns are dispatched 27-10. Then Indianapolis comes in and becomes the first road team to lower our colours at home, in extra time 20-17. Pittsburgh thump us on the road 30-10, but we regroup to edge Baltimore 22-15.

We are tied for the division lead at 5-3 with the Colts. Clearly we are not the same offensive juggernaut that we were last season.

Tennessee visit and are sent home losers by 27-10. Off to Houston where the Texans repay us for the first round shellacking, winning 20-13. Klein has his best game of the season against the Panthers but the visitors upset us 26-21, scoring 16 points in the final quarter. At 6-5, we are out of the playoff spots currently. Enter the Broncos, who get a repeat of last year's playoff thumping. Luca Robinson announces his comeback with 2.5 sacks in the 45-16 win, with four touchdowns coming in the last quarter.

We are level with the Colts at 7-5 but they own the division lead. We currently have a wildcard spot but play Indianapolis in Week 15.

Atlanta visits us for the home closer, and we complete eight sellouts for the season. Maybe we should have built a bigger stadium? Monarchs win 21-9. On to the vital game against the Colts, who lost this week. Indianapolis wins 20-16 to get the tiebreaker over us. We'll have to win out and hope Indy drops at least one game in order to get a home final. Klein throws three picks. Back to New Orleans, the scene of our greatest triumph, and we win against the hometown Saints 38-14. Cornerback Jeremiah Money picks two and returns one to the house. Off to Tennessee, where we are hoping to win and also that Houston upsets Indianapolis so we can get a division title. Houston upholds their end of the bargain, but we can't get it done against the Titans, losing 33-27. Klein throws another two picks and his transformation from Super Bowl hero to mediocre quarterback is almost complete.

We live to fight another day against the Bills.

2035 AFC Wildcard Game
London Monarchs (9-7) at Buffalo Bills (11-5)

A new four game season starts here, it matters little what has gone on before.

The teams trade field position and field goals during the first half, and Buffalo leads 9-3 at the long break. Undrafted rookie running back Roger Lucas broke clear for a 66 yard touchdown run and gave London the slenderest of leads. The Bills seized back the initiative with minutes to go in the third quarter and took a six point lead into the final stanza. Roger Lucas once again put us in the lead with a 6 yard touchdown run, set up by a 21 yard run by him earlier in the drive. London would stall Buffalo at their 38 yard line and get the ball back with the two minute warning. The Monarchs would play clock management and ultimately give the ball back with just 1:21 to go. QB Ken Webb passed to WR Edward Benson for 28 yards and put Buffalo in the driver's seat. The ball was spiked with 21 seconds to go, and the Bills confidently stepped up to take the field goal shot....and missed!

London wins!

2035 AFC Divisional Round
London Monarchs (10-7) v Denver Broncos (10-6)

It wouldn't be a postseason without a game against Denver.

New quarterback Kaden Whiting put the Broncos on the board first but the touchdown was overruled through offensive holding, and Denver settled for three points, which London soon matched. Lucas scored his third touchdown of the postseason as the second quarter began, and the Monarchs were up by seven. A pair of field goals to close out the half saw the reigning Super Bowl champions up by 16-3.

Echevarria added his fourth field goal halfway through the third quarter, and when Klein found Raymond for his first touchdown pass of the post-season, it seemed clear that London were going to win quite easily. This notion was reinforced when a fumble by the Broncos was soon converted into seven more points.

Two down, two to go.

2035 AFC Championship Game
London Monarchs (11-7) at Baltimore Ravens (12-5)

Under coach Willis McGahee, the Ravens had been once to the Super Bowl but had yet to add to the two trophies already in the team's cabinet.

The Monarchs made a quick start with successive field goals, and were able to hang on to a 6-3 lead throughout most of the first half. Echevarria extended the lead at the halfway point of the third quarter, and the Monarchs seemed content to play defense. Just as the third quarter ended, Klein found Hancock for the first touchdown of the game, and just like that London lead 16-3. Veteran Ravens QB Eduardo Salaam got his team back into the contest and lead a touchdown drive of his own. The pivotal moment of the game came when Klein connected with Lukas Hancock for a 55 yard gain on third down. That lead to a touchdown with the two main protagonists combining once again. Not to be outdone, Salaam threw an 80 yard touchdown pass and it was game back on, again. London played clock and kicked a field goal with two minutes to go. Baltimore would try in vain for a touchdown, settle for a field goal and then fail to recover the onside kick.

LONDON WAS GOING BACK TO THE SUPER BOWL!

Off Season

We decide to keep all of our coaches, extending Niko Koutouvides for another four years. He's earned it, I think.

With our new stadium, London is now the most valuable franchise in the NFL.

Let's take a short detour to look at how ex-Monarchs alumni are going in the NFL coaching ranks:

Dan Connor (head coach 2026-28) is currently coaching the Dallas Cowboys, taking them to the divisional round last year. Between London and the Cowboys, he had three largely unsuccessful seasons at the Dolphins.

Adam Gase (offensive coordinator 2029) is at his fourth club as a head coach in Seattle, having previously coached at the Cardinals, Chargers and Niners.

Dowell Loggains (head coach 2029-32) left the Colts at the end of the previous season and is now at the Eagles. He has one winning season in seven as a head coach.

Gilbert Mark (offensive coordinator 2016-26) is about to enter his tenth season as a head coach, and his seventh as the Saints main signal caller.

After twelve seasons as head coach of London, Matt Patricia (2014-25) is entering his eleventh season as the head coach of the Steelers. He has progressed to the division round four times, but the Super Bowl continues to elude him.

Christopher Schumer (assistant head coach 2023-25) took the Bengals to the Super Bowl in his first season as a head coach, but has been starved of success in the three seasons since.

Ryan Succop (assistant head coach 2028) took the Falcons to the championship in his first season as a head coach in 2029, and joined the Titans in 2034. His offensive coordinator is Sedrick Poston, who filled the same role with the Monarchs in 2027 and 2028.

So, including our current head coach Niko Koutauvides, eight of the 32 NFL head coaches have served time in London.

Shaun Suisham (assistant head coach 2017-22) has been the offensive coordinator for the Chargers since 2023, compiling a 94-118-1 record in that time.

Michael Bennett (defensive coordinator 2026-27) has had stops at the Jets, Raiders and Giants since leaving London.

Shawn Ramsey (assistant head coach 2029-31) has been the assistant head coach of the Packers since 2032.

London would have the sixth and 31st pick in the draft, but no third round pick.

We re-sign a heap of players with one year left on their contract, and try to make a play for Buffalo's highly touted running back, who has rushed for 1600 yards in each of the last two seasons. He signs with Denver instead.

Much shenanigans in the draft as we trade down from #6 to #20, receiving four picks from Carolina in the process. We then turn pick #20 into a future first and third rounder from the Packers, and turn pick #31 into a second, fifth and seven pick from the Redskins. That gives us eleven picks in this draft alone.

2.19 - RCB Julian Carlos (22/31)
2.31 - LCB Claude McGrew (23/39)
3.20 - LG Rich Landers (25/45)
4.31 - SS Jacob Walljasper (27/35)
5.16 - LDE Dean Hilton (22/29)
5.20 - WLB Quentin Guthrie (16/33)
5.31 - FL Freddie McGregor (16/32)
6.20 - LDT Zack Conley (21/36)
6.31 - TE Collin Watt (20/48)
7.14 - WLB Micky Melendez (16/29)
7.31 - RB Spencer Ingram (25/46)

No holdouts, and we head to the pre-season with a healthy roster which is the second-youngest in the league with an average age of 26.

So much for being healthy. Jayden Klein suffers a herniated disc in the first pre-season game and will not return to full strength for three weeks. Over to you, Kirk Marcum. Marcum struggles and Klein returns in time for the final pre-season game against the Vikings, throwing for two touchdowns. But now he's questionable with knee tendinitis. Hopefully this isn't going to be a theme during the season.

Turns out we messed up a bit with the Packers trade. We still get a first and a third from them, but for 2038, not for 2037. Whoops.

So to our season opener against the Colts in Indianapolis. An epic battle. London leads 27-23 after three quarters, and Marcum puts the Monarchs further ahead with his third touchdown run. The Colts hit the lead with a pair of touchdowns, and then the teams engage in a field goal shootout. Indianapolis leads 40-37 with seconds remaining, and Echevarria ties the game from 54 yards out. With 3:42 remaining in extra time, he repeats the trick and we escape with a much-needed win. Marcum throws for 410 yards on debut. We suffer two injuries on our offensive line, with Vandersommen gone with a broken ankle, and Coutant with a strained elbow tendom. London 43 Indianapolis 40

An epic battle the next week with London travelling to Detroit. The combatants in the past two Super Bowls square up once more. Despite 147 yards from Levi Raymond, the Lions are too good at home, and we fail to score for the first time since 2028. Detroit 16 London 0

Our home opener against the Chiefs at Monarchs Stadium. We lead 9-7 at the break but can't stop the run, with RB Todd McKenzie gaining 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. London loses again and we look stagnant. Kansas City 21 London 15

Jayden Klein is cleared to start the following week against the 2-1 Jets. We take a buffeting in the first half, trailing 13-0. The defense steps up big time, particuarly Kevin Walker, and Klein leads an 80 yard touchdown drive to give the win to London with 47 seconds remaining. London 17 New York Jets 13.

We stay at home the following week against the Dolphins, who have started slowly out of the gates in 2036. That suits us fine, as we take a 20-10 lead into the break. Klein steps up with two touchdown passes, and Neal Ragone closes out the game with a 12 yard touchdown run. London 37 Miami 17

Indianapolis heads across the Atlantic for a battle of 3-2 teams. Lukas Hancock has a big 127 yards, but the game is won by our rushing team of Spencer Ingram (48 yards, 1 TD) and Tyrus Panahi (59 yards, 1TD). This game isn't as close as the season opener, and we win easily. London 33 Indianapolis 7

Off to Nashville, where Ryan Succop's Titans are leading the division at 5-1. They embarrass us and keep our offense without a touchdown for the third time this season. Klein is erratic with 22/43-180 and a pick. Tennessee 26 London 3

We use the bye week to get healthy, and then travel to Buffalo for a vital game - there is a big difference between being 5-3 and being 4-4. We win a close and unusual game. Panahi and Ingram have big games with 98 and 82 yards respectively, but Klein passes for just 186 yards. Still, we got it done offensively and that's what counts! London 28 Buffalo 21

Taking stock at the halfway point of the season, we really need to get more out of the passing game. Marcum passed for 400 yards in the season opener; we have produced just another 1600 yards in 7 matches since. Nineteen turnovers is far too much at this stage of the season too.

Our 5-3 record puts us in the mix, but Denver currently holds the last wildcard spot ahead of us. Tennessee are dominating the division with a 7-2 record.

Off to New England, where the Pats lead the division by three games. We trail 17-0 at halftime and try to stage a comeback, but the clock beats us and we lose a close game. New England 27 London 21

The Texans are trying to make some noise in their own right, and visit Monarchs Stadium with an identical 5-4 record. This time, our offense clicks but our defense lets us down at the worst possible time. Teddy Walston leads Houston down the field in just six plays to snatch a win. Houston 28 London 27

Sitting third in our division, we need to shake things up and decide to make a switch at quarterback, reinstating Kirk Marcum for the rest of the season. His first assignment is a relatively easy one with the 3-7 Vikings visiting. Marcum passes for 149 yards and a touchdown in a win that could have been so easily a loss. Kevin Walker is huge with 4.5 sacks, and we get to Minnesota QB Marvin Kennedy a total of 12 times. London 20 Minnesota 6

Off to the Factory of Sadness as we take on 5-6 Cleveland. Marcum is excellent, throwing for 332 yards and four touchdowns. However, we have no answer for the antics of Browns receiver Zane Sheldon, who plucks two catches out of the air for scores, as well as a punt return touchdown. The Browns win a close game. Cleveland 38 London 35

We are now two games out of the wildcard spot, and take on the Bears who are involved in a wildcard race of their own. Levi Raymond is the beneficiary of 13 targets from Marcum, striking with 193 yards and 2 touchdowns. Unfortunately though, the Bears were able to control the clock and field position better, and eked out enough points to get the job done. Chicago 16 London 14

We have a must-win game against the Titans, who can seal the AFC South with a win of their own. This time our defense is magnificent, with five sacks and three interceptions, and Kirk Marcum won the game for us with his legs. The Titans don't score until the final drive of the game. London 17 Tennessee 7

We are now 1.5 games out of a wildcard spot (the Jets are 8-5-1) and we can't win our division any longer, being three games behind the Titans. The struggling Packers (5-9) come to town for our season closer. We trail heading into the last quarter but Marcum managed to connect with Levi Raymond for a 19 yard pass which gave us a lead we never surrendered. Echevarria added three more points as time ran out, although we would later find out that the Jets won, thereby eliminating us from contention for 2036. London 20 Green Bay 16

Marcum would be a late withdrawl from our season closer against the Texans, and we decide to reinstate Jayden Klein rather than go with the untested Clifton Flowers. In a game that meant little to either side, the Texans would ultimately prevail, knocking the Monarchs down to 8-8 for the season. Klein did have a good game with 325 passing yards and a touchdown, forcing more speculation about whether he would be around in 2037. Houston 17 London 13

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers would win the Super Bowl 33-14 against the Bengals. It is just the second championship for the Bucs in their sixtieth season. Their expansion brothers in 1976, the Seattle Seahawks, are still waiting for their first championship.

Five Monarchs players earned All-League positions in 2036:

First Team: DE Kevin Walker, DT Cameron Jasper
Second Team: WR Levi Raymond, WR Lukas Hancock, DE Luca Robinson

Cameron Jasper announced his retirement at the end of the 2036 season. He will go down in Monarchs history as one of the great defensive tackles the club has seen.

Drafted: 1st round 2025, pick 1
Tackles: 626 (3rd)
Assists: 237 (2nd)
Sacks: 75 (2nd)
Hurries: 120 (2nd)
Blocked Passes: 35 (2nd)
Games: 184 (3rd)
4 x All-League Team Nominations: 2026, 2027, 2028, 2036
1 x Super Bowl Championship: 2034

We skip through staff retention, and give serious thought to replacing our offensive coordinator. However, I decide to hang on given that the potential replacement would likely leave us after one season anyway and jump back into the head coaching market.

We need to find a solution to our quarterback problem, and dive into free agency to find the answer. It comes in the form of Colts backup QB Dominic Kelly (47/47) who joins us for three seasons. He was originally drafted by the Lions and won a Super Bowl in his own right in 2033 before being benched for Declan Poole. So, the guy is a winner. And the fact he's a Colt adds another layer of intrigue to our rivalry.

We also get a high-quality defensive free agent in the form of SLB Rickey Copeland, who joins us from the Niners where he pulled off 6.5 sacks last season.

MLB Albert Chin is released, and we re-sign Levi Raymond and Lukas Hancock to contract extensions. This is the pre-cursor to the biggest re-signing news of the off-season: Kevin Walker, with 44.5 sacks in his first three seasons, is a Monarch until the end of 2041.

As has become our policy of late, we trade away our best draft picks. #16 overall goes to the Bears for a future first, third and fifth.

2.15 - FL Garrett Blanchard (24/44)
4.17 - P Leland Vera (52/56)
5.16 - WLB Charlie Copeland (11/41)
6.15 - QB Oscar Talbot (11/31)
7.18 - RDE Matt Madison (14/31)

After the draft, we release our only Super Bowl-winning quarterback, since we can't really afford to pay $21m per year for a backup.

Jayden Klein was drafted with the fifth pick in the fifth round of the 2029 draft, and was the third stringer for the first two seasons of his career. He spent 2031 as the starter, throwing for 3521 yards but also 22 interceptions, and was reduced to the role of backup for the next two seasons. Halfway during 2033, he shared playing time with Rob Stevens and impressed new coach Niko Koutouvides enough to name him the fulltime starter in 2034. It was a decision that paid off, with Klein passing for a franchise-best 4624 yards, 29 touchdowns and earning the Super Bowl MVP title as the Monarchs squeezed past the Lions. 2035 saw a return to the Super Bowl although Klein's own numbers were well down. Ultimately, 2036 saw Klein benched in favour of Kirk Marcum despite an improvement in his passer rating, with the 5-5 Monarchs making a gamble to make the playoffs which didn't pay off.

Klein leaves the club as the second great quarterback in Monarchs lore, behind Ben Ryan. He would go on to sign a contract with the Ravens, where he should push veteran Eduardo Salaam in pre-season competition.

So, Dominic Kelso bombed badly in the pre-season, down to 39/39. Ah well, that's still better than Klein when he was winning championships.

Off to Tennessee where we play the season opener. Kelso passes for a mammoth 453 yards. The Titans come back from 24-13 down in the final quarter and score twice from their quarterback Martin Beitelspacher in the last four minutes. We level scores with a 41 yard field goal in the last nine seconds, and then kick the winning score in extra time. London 30 Tennessee 27

A crazy game in St Louis. Scored tied at the half, Rams by a point leading into the final quarter. We take a two point lead on a field goal, they counter with a three pointer of their own. Kelso finds Raymond for a 21 yard pass, and we run in the two point conversion. The Rams score the game-tying touchdown with 46 seconds to go. We call upon Xander Echevarria once again to kick the winning score, and he doesn't let us down. We could so easily be 0-2, but are 2-0 instead. London 33 St Louis 30

Off to Buffalo, where we're well and truly used to playing the home side. This time we have a much easier time against the winless Bills. Four of our receivers topped 60 yards for the game, and Kelso had his third successive 300 yard game. London 26 Buffalo 7

The Raiders are having a good season thus far, but are no match for the Monarchs who start the new season 4-0. Hancock and Raymond are their usual selves with 121 and 85 yards, and Kelso continues to impress, with a super-accurate 27/31-350 statline. The only concern is that he is sacked six times. We dominate the time of possession statline with 37 minutes in our hands. London 27 Oakland 20

Off to Indianapolis where the Colts inflict our first loss of the season. Freddie McConnell, taken second overall by the Colts, is impressive with 340 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kelso continues his impressive season - if he continues to throw for 300 yards every game we'll win a lot more games than not. The Colts win the game with a great defensive effort, holding us to just three points in the last quarter. Indianapolis 24 London 23

We drop our second game in a row a week later when the winless Titans come to Monarchs Stadium. The Titans are perfect with controlling possession and we can't force a turnover to save our lives. Tennessee 23 London 21

Rickey Copeland has a great defensive game as we beat the Chiefs on the road. He forces two fumbles and pulls off nine tackles and a sack on the way to earning man of the match honours. Kelso breaks his duck of 300 passing yard games but it matters little as the Monarchs re-enter the winners circle. London 29 Kansas City 17

The 6-1 Broncos come calling and we send them home with a big loss, giving us a potential leg-up in the AFC seeding race. Kelso passes for a nifty three touchdowns and 275 yards, and Hancock hauls in two touchdowns and 125 on five receptions. Kevin Walker joins in the fun with a fumble return touchdown. London 34 Denver 14

Off on our longest roadtrip and the Chargers deal us a rare loss. San Diego QB Amos Hemsley has a day out with four touchdown passes. We score the last 17 points of the game, including a career-first touchdown pass for Harry Castillo, who comes in to relieve Kelso. We drop to second in our division with a 6-3 record, and face the division leaders Houston next. San Diego 35 London 20

A vital season-defining game against the Texans, and Lukas Hancock stands up with 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. We intercept Damon Briggs twice and squeeze out the Texans in a great win. London 27 Houston 21

A poor game follows against the 3-7 Cardinals, who open up a mammoth 35-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Kelso is knocked out of the game and Harry Castillo takes over the keys on offense. What follows is three touchdown passes in the third quarter to close the gap to 35-21, before Arizona kicks away again. Castillo ends up with 275 yards and 4 touchdowns, but with 3 picks as well. A shocking loss. Arizona 49 London 28

Hanging on to our division lead by the skin of our teeth, we take on the Browns next. Cleveland are leading the AFC with a 9-2 record, and give us our best contest of the year. There are six lead changes in total, but we get the last lead change and that's all that counts. Hancock has a big 171 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. London 28 Cleveland 21

Another trip across to the other side of the world as we take on the 9-3 Seahawks. We make a promising start but decide to go away from the run, having only eight rushing plays all game. Kelso throws two picks and the Seahawks seal their division with a ten point win. We have a slender hold on our division lead and play the Texans next. Seattle 27 London 17

For the first time in many years, we have a 100-yard receiver not named Raymond or Hancock. Alejandro McKenzie hauls in 113 yards on 11 targets and is rewarded with a touchdown. We knock over the Texans rather easily in a critical divisional game and advance our record to 9-5. London 28 Houston 18

As usual, we make things hard for ourselves and fall to the Niners at Monarchs Stadium. Kelso has 62 pass attempts but sprays half of them, and we fall to a better-organised team. Raymond is a highlight again with 164 yards. San Francisco 26 London 13

We are tied with Houston at 9-6, and a win will see us into the playoffs. A loss should see us survive with a superior conference record to the Ravens and Bengals. On the topic of milestones, Kelso needs only 250 yards or so to beat Jayden Klein's single season passing yard record. We've already broken the team passing record of 4708 yards with 4717 through 15 games, but Harry Castillo has accounted for 322 of those yards for himself. Luckily for fans at Monarchs Stadium, we control our own destiny and enforce it with a big win against the Colts. Kelso falls short of the team record but has a neat 4600 yards passing on the season, a great accomplishment in his first season with the club. London 30 Indianapolis 10 Houston wins 10 games as well but misses out on the playoffs entirely. Sucked in, I say.

The win earns the AFC South division title, and a wildcard match against the Broncos, this time at Monarchs Stadium which is hosting a playoff game for the first time. We score 17 points off our first three drives but then curiously put the cue in the rack and invite the Broncos back into the contest. By the time we get our offensive wits about us, we are down six and need to put the game into the hands of Dom Kelso, who promptly throws an intercept. Denver aren't a dumb team and play clock management through their power back Greyson Arton, and we are one and done. Denver 30 London 24

Off Season

Jay Guilford becomes the fourth Monarch elected to the Hall of Fame, following in the footsteps of Doug Martin, Jimmy Graham and Morris Claiborne.

Kelvin Tate is let go as the offensive coordinator, as we bring in Lonnie Burleson, who we feel can get a bit more done with our stud receiving corp. He also has a significant upgrade in his playcalling ratings. Tate leaves with a 79-58 record and one Super Bowl won. Tate heads to our rivals Houston. Bastard.

We have the 19th, 21st and 23rd picks in the draft. Chances are we won't use them all. In fact, we don't. There is a great quarterback sitting at the top of the draft, and we make a deal with the Jets to move up to first overall. We give up the three first round picks we hold this year, and our own first rounder next year. Let's hope it pays off.

1.01 - QB Josh Blake (16/87)
2.22 - RB Max Corbett (29/41)
3.17 - LCB Erik Page (21/50)
3.21 - LDT Mitchell Hasken (33/43)
3.23 - RCB Frank Brewster (22/41)
4.22 - C Grady McPike (18/47)
5.21 - MLB Pat O'Neal (23/34)
5.23 - FL Fred Minardi (16/31)
6.22 - RT J.C. Grossreider (18/32)
7.23 - RDE Robert Malone (20/33)

A fantastic draft, not least because we have our quarterback for the next fifteen seasons.

In our 25th season, we are featured for the first time on Sweat Socks.

Blake progresses to 22/80 during the pre-season and will get the start for the new season. On the eve of the new season, we trade QB Dominic Kelso to the Niners with a third round pick in exchange for a rookie offensive lineman rated 29/52. Win-win trade, I say.

The Josh Blake era starts with a big win in Texas. We open up a 26-0 lead by halftime and hold onto record a great win in the young quarterback's first game. Blake throws for 280 and 2 touchdowns. London 29 Houston 3

The Eagles are looking to bounce back into NFC reckoning after a few disappointing seasons, but they won't find any luck at Monarchs Stadium. Lukas Hancock hauls in 158 yards and a touchdown, and rookie running back Max Corbett picks up his first career touchdown, as does Josh Blake with his legs. London 34 Philadelphia 6

The Pats deliver a reality check with a big win. Oscar Talbot sees his first NFL career action in relief of Josh Blake after the youngster is knocked out with concussion. He will be back to full strength in four weeks. New England 23 London 10

With Blake sidelined for the short term, Talbot gets the start and efficiently guides the Monarchs to a big win over the Bengals. The game is sealed with a 91 yard interception return by Wade Powell. London 26 Cincinnati 3

The unbeaten Cleveland Browns march into Monarchs Stadium and leave with the slenderest of wins. London mounts a spirited comeback but the game is sealed with the second of Oscar Talbot's interceptions. Cleveland 31 London 30

The Colts are the early pacesetters in the AFC South but we walk into their house and win without much trouble. Talbot holks three touchdowns and 263 yards, and Corbett scores his fourth touchdown in six games. He potentially could be just the fourth Monarch to score ten or more rushing touchdowns in a season, behind Doug Martin (twice), Amir Dills and Donovan Wallace. London 34 Indianapolis 19

A tough loss to the Steelers on the road, as Jeffrey Rivera tosses four touchdowns in his best performance of the season. Blake is cleared for a comeback next week, as we face up to the Ravens. Pittsburgh 28 London 20

The old and the new collide in Maryland as 40-year old Eduardo Salaam shows 23-year old Josh Blake how to play the game of football. The veteran throws four touchdowns in a big Baltimore win. The loss drops us to 4-4, half a game behind the Texans. Baltimore 34 London 17

The Titans are in the middle of a rebuilding project, and we are happy to oblige with knocking down a few walls ourselves with a massive win at Monarchs Stadium. Blake returns to form with three touchdown passes, and Corbett adds another touchdown to his collection. London 41 Tennessee 10

With the bye week coming and going, we have a vital game against the Texans at Monarchs Stadium, where a win can get us back into the lead in the division. Josh Blake is pure poetry here with 402 passing yards, 5 touchdowns, and finding Lukas Hancock with 182 yards and 3 touchdowns. No surprise to tell you then that we win, and take back leadership of the AFC South, however slenderly. London 35 Houston 10

We head to Texas and take on the Cowboys in their house, and walk away with a fantastic shutout win. We hold the Cowboys to just 217 yards of offense and 10 first downs. London 29 Dallas 0

Off to Arrowhead, where the Chiefs dominate us right until the last drive of the game, when Blake completes successive passes of 10, 7 and 63 yards, finding Lukas Hancock for the game winning score. London moves to 8-4 and in excellent shape. London 20 Kansas City 16

The struggling Redskins come to town and we expect to win big. Although we all perform well across the park we can't do better than a ten point win. Pleasingly, our defense performs well once again, limiting Washington to just 22 rushing yards on 17 attempts. Raymond is player of the game with 158 receiving yards. London 16 Washington 6

Indianapolis cross the ocean fighting for their season. They keep it alive with a pick six in the final quarter by veteran cornerback Kelly Barber. It isn't all bad news as Houston loses and we have a two game lead in the division with just two games to go. Indianapolis 17 London 14

We make our last trip across the ocean for the first of two away games to close out the season. The Giants (9-5) are in a playoff tilt themselves and knock Josh Blake out of the game en route to an important win. Blake will be cleared for action next week, in a game we must win to win the division. New York Giants 27 London 10

So it comes to this. We must beat 4-11 Tennessee to win the division, otherwise 8-7 Indianapolis can take it from us with a win over 8-7 Houston. We hold the tiebreaker over the Texans in the event of a loss; we don't hold it over the Colts. The Titans rally to beat us in the final minutes with a field goal; we wait for confirmation of a Texans win, which they seal with an intercept touchdown. We win the AFC South but make hard work of it, losing our last three games of the season. Tennessee 23 London 20

Off to the wildcard round, where we host the Texans. We are fortunate to win, outlasting the Texans in a wild match where the result was in doubt until the final play of the game. Blake throws for 361 yards in his playoffs debut, while Max Corbett scores two touchdowns from close range. London 34 Houston 31

For the first time, we travel to Boston in the playoffs to take on the second seeded 12-4 Patriots. We open up a 14-0 lead early thanks to two touchdown passes from Josh Blake, but invite the Pats back into the contest with two late scores. New England would dominate the second half and lead by three points with less than a minute to go. Josh Blake would take the team down the field and set up the game tying field goal from Xander Echevarria as time expired. In extra time, the Monarchs took the ball first and drove all the way to the 37 yard line, but went for it on 4th and 2 and turned the ball over. New England took over and made no such mistakes on their drive, winning the game by three. New England 27 London 24

Seattle would repeat as Super Bowl champions, outlasting the Pats 24-10 in the season decider.

Off Season

Jimmy Graham left the club and Ryan Whalen was named the new assistant head coach.

Joe McDonald retired, having served for fourteen seasons and 179 games with the Monarchs.

The Monarchs would have just five picks in the 2039 draft, having traded one to the Jets in the Josh Blake trade, and forfeiting another for salary cap violations.

Only one signing in free agency, an experienced linebacker from the Niners who should provide heaps of leadership.

Draft
2.25 - RB Camden Prescott (31/31)
4.25 - SS Melvin Shaprio (20/34)
5.25 - SLB Brent Harper (22/39)
6.25 - SS Gerald Judkins (19/46)
7.25 - LG Silas Furlong (10/33)

We head into our 26th season knowing that we'd have to make quite a few changes heading into the next off-season, with salary cap problems taking away yet another one of our draft choices heading into next season.

We beat the Colts in our season opener on the back of a great defensive effort by Kevin Walker, who sacks Freddie McConnell four times and sets up the game-defining score, forcing a fumble which is then returned for eight yards. London 20 Indianapolis 15

Off to Flordia, where we take on the Bucs. Spencer Ingram scores on two goalline carries, and Blake passes for 293 yards as we easily account for Tampa Bay, capped off by a 25 yard interception return from Erik Page to close out the game. London 34 Tampa Bay 14

The Browns come to town and have us in a defensive bind at halftime, leading 28-14. We storm back with three great touchdowns in the second half, Blake finding Levi Raymond twice in the end zone and Spencer Ingram running up the winning score early in the fourth quarter. We sack the Brownies QB five times en route to a close win. London 35 Cleveland 28

The winless Jets taken on the unbeaten Monarchs, and the status quo remains the same, with Blake pushing the game beyond reach in the final quarter with two more touchdown passes for Raymond, who has five scores for the season. London 26 New York Jets 17

The next week, Blake cuts loose as we open up a 35-3 lead on the Dolphins at halftime, with Blake throwing all five touchdown passes. We ease up in a dour second half but keep Miami out of the endzone in a great defensive showing. London 35 Miami 6

Indianapolis ends our winning streak the next week, although we score the last 14 points of the game. The ultimate difference was a 91 yard interception return early in the third quarter. Reverse that score and we have a win of our own. Indianapolis 31 London 21

The Titans pay us a visit, with an identical 5-1 record to our own. The contest is an absorbing battle, with the two teams trading touchdowns all game long, answering one team's score with one of their own. Luckily for the Monarchs, we scored the first and last touchdowns of the game and that was the difference. London 35 Tennessee 28

We lick our wounds in a bye week and then jump on a plane headed for Buffalo, where the locals move to 7-1 mauling us in the process. We open a ten point lead in the first quarter but that's as good as it got. Buffalo 34 London 10

We play our fourth successive playoff contender in a row when we head to Boston. This time, it's London who turn on the form as we limit the Patriots to just 7 first downs in the entire game, a franchise record for us. We walk away with our seventh win under our belts and confident of greater things ahead. London 26 New England 0

For the first time in franchise history, we post successive shutout wins, a great statement for a team with championship ambitions. Houston are held to just 93 yards in total offense, and 8 first downs overall. London 27 Houston 0

The Panthers end our defensive streak with a 103 kickoff return on the first play of the game. London counters immediately with a 102 kickoff return of our own. We leave it until the last 46 seconds to hit the lead for the first time and give ourselves another winning season. London 27 Carolina 23

A complete reversal of form the following week against our old foes the Broncos. Blake is picked off three times and the Broncos have a great time running the ball, employing 40 run plays versus just 20 passing plays. Denver 28 London 3

The division-leading Falcons swoop across the ocean the next week and comprehensively outplay us in the quarterback department, with 393 yards and 3 touchdowns versus our 278 yards and less than half our passes completed. Still, Blake steps up when it matters, driving the Monarchs down the field to set up the winning kick as time expired. London 30 Atlanta 27

We fly to Nashville, knowing a win can seal the division for us once again. We score just one touchdown and let the kickers slug it out, and at the end of the game we book our ticket to the playoffs. Josh Blake passes 4000 yards for the first time in his career. We hope there will be many more. London 19 Tennessee 12

Off to New Orleans, where we beat the mediocre Saints quite easily. Max Corbett scores the only touchdown on a goalline punch and we're happy to let our defense suffocate the Saints out of the contest. It's the sixth time this season we've not let our opponents score a touchdown. London 16 New Orleans 3

We still have to play our starters and try to wrap up the second seed in the AFC - the Bengals (11-4) can catch us due to a better conference record, while the Bills (13-2) have the tiebreaker against us. We produce the goods when it matters, with our seventh defensive shutout of the season, although we have injury concerns heading forward over Josh Blake and Levi Raymond. They will really benefit from the bye week though! London 30 Houston 3

We take on the 12-5 Bengals in the divisional round. The two teams trade field goals during the first half and head into the break tied. Blake gets the scoring started when he throws a pick six to the Bengals, but replies in style with completed passes of 58 and 21 yards before finding Max Corbett for the first Monarchs touchdown of the post-season. Wade Powell then swoops on an intercept and takes it back to the house. Monarchs up by 7. The Bengals intercept Blake and level the scores, before going ahead on a field goal of their own. The Monarchs tried to punch in a field goal inside the final minutes before settling for a field goal as time expired. In extra time, both teams traded possession before Blake found Levi Raymond for a 54 yard touchdown that ended the game! London 29 Cincinnati 23

Off to Buffalo for the AFC Championship game. The Bills started the scoring with a quarterback scramble, and we replied with a methodical drive of our own. During the second quarter, Blake put the Monarchs ahead when he found Hancock for 53 yards, and had a chance to extend the lead late in the half but was intercepted on the Buffalo 10 yard line. We stuffed the Bills attack early in the second half, earning two points from a safety, although the locals would slightly reduce the margin with a field goal. Blake then steps up and finds Hancock for his second touchdown of the game. London by 13. Another field goal from Buffalo cuts the deficit, and then the Monarchs seal the game with Blake's fourth touchdown pass of the afternoon, this time to Spencer Ingram. London 30 Buffalo 13

The Monarchs are off to their second Super Bowl, this time played in San Francisco. Their opponents would be the Rams, playing in their first Super Bowl since 2026. London could boast eight starters with Super Bowl experience, having already played and won one in 2034.

Josh Blake's first Super Bowl play was a fumble, which directly resulted in a Rams field goal. After trading another field goal each, Jacob Walljasper put London in front with a 92 yard touchdown return. London by 4. The defense then stood up and plucked an interception from the Rams, allowing Blake ample field position to drive the Monarchs to another touchdown, this time to Levi Raymond. Five minutes before halftime, the lead was extended through Max Corbett who was the beneficiary of a 13 yard Blake touchdown pass. The teams would trade another interception each before halftime but there would be no change to the 24-6 scoreline which had opened up in the English franchise's favour. The Rams squandered the first drive of the second half, fumbling and allowing London to kick a field goal. The Rams replied with one of their own but Josh Blake put the contest beyond reach with his third touchdown pass of the evening to Max Corbett, opening up an unassailable 34-9 lead. The Rams would score once again but this time it was London who were victorious, winning their second Super Bowl championship in franchise history. London 34 St Louis 16

Max Corbett was named the Super Bowl MVP with 61 rushing yards, 51 receiving yards and 2 touchdown receptions. Jackie Bryson had a horror game for the Rams, throwing four interceptions.

Four Monarchs were named to the All-League sides, with Lucas Coutant and Kevin Walker earning Second Team places, and Levi Raymond and Deion Randle getting First Team honours. Niko Koutouvides was named Coach of the Year.

No retirements, and no changes to our coaching staff.

We do a lot of tap-dancing with our roster and end up extending a lot of players. Josh Blake is given a big fat contract until the end of 2044.

Even though we have $18.8m under the cap, we spurn free agency altogether.

In the draft, we trade away our first rounder for a second and fourth rounder from the Panthers.

2.25 - LCB David Risby (18/44)
2.32 - SLB Myron Dupuis (27/45)
4.25 - LDE Kaden Garcia (23/41)
4.32 - NT Trevor Walton (23/39)
5.32 - RDT Dominic Plyler (27/37)
6.32 - MLB R.J. Reese (22/37)
7.32 - FB Warren Andrews (16/41)

RDE Rusty Sauk (46/46) begins a holdout that we can't afford, so it's off to the trading block for him after training camp. No GMs express interest and him and he's cut without a second thought.

During the pre-season, Josh Blake is struck down with severe headaches, but returns to full health for the start of the regular season.

I'm going to rip through this one quite quickly (Christmas food coma hangover), so all you're getting are scores!

W 35-23 v Tennessee (Blake 27/35-415 4TD, Raymond 11-310 2TD!!!)
W 27-3 @ Detroit (Walljasper 3 INT)
L 29-31 v Buffalo (we scored last 19 points of game)
W 24-9 v Oakland (Blake 26/37-276 3TD)
L 19-23 v Indianapolis
L 20-30 @ Tennessee (drop out of AFC wildcard spots)
W 31-24 @ Kansas City (Blake 26/38-269 4TD)
W 27-24 v Denver (back into AFC wildcard)
W 37-0 @ San Diego (level in division with Houston; Blake sprains neck)
W 35-17 @ Houston (Blake 31/38-301 3TD; Camden Prescott scores 2TD)
W 34-16 v Minnesota (Blake 26/34-313 3TD)
L 9-14 @ Cincinnati (loss drops us to third in AFC; Miami are 12-0!)
W 34-30 @ Chicago (Oscar Talbot throws game winning TD; Blake is OUT with a strained achilles tendon!)
W 34-14 v Houston (veteran QB Amos Hemsley throws 300 yards! We seal AFC South with this result)
W 17-13 @ Green Bay
W 23-15 @ Indianapolis (we seal the second seed and rest up)

Divisional Round
Josh Blake returns from injury but we are caught in ambush by the Broncos, who establish a 20-0 lead after the first quarter and hold us off to ultimately win 37-27.

Cameron Jasper is inducted into the Hall of Fame, being the second home-grown Monarchs player behind Ben Ryan to have that honour.

We trade away some valuable pieces before their contracts expire, as a means of getting our salary cap number down. Grady McPike goes to the Packers for a fourth and a sixth rounder. We send Cole Connerty and a fifth rounder to Dallas for a third rounder. Mitchell Hasken goes to the Giants for a fourth, sixth and seventh rounder.

We leave the free agency well alone, focusing on the draft. On the day of the draft we trade away our first rounder to the Saints, reaping three picks in return.

2.16 - RDE J.R. Carlisle (21/37)
2.28 - RB Declan Curtis (25/38)
3.20 - LCB David Swann (23/42)
4.08 - TE Cornell Tipermas (20/48)

Off Season

We keep our entire staff intact once again. This means Niko Koutouvides will become our longest-tenured head coach. In his previous nine seasons, he has produced two Super Bowl championships, three AFC Championships, eight trips to the playoffs and no losing seasons. Zack Wedeman has matured in the role of defensive coordinator; the 47-year old has now held the job for 14 years. Strength co-ordinator Sam Means is now the best at his job, and has held the role for 21 years. He is still only 53 years old.

No retirements, so off to the re-signings.

New contracts for Levi Raymond and Lukas Hancock, the greatest wide receiver pairing in franchise history. Gael Campbell at safety also gets a new contract. Deion Randle is dissuaded from retirement with a new two year contract, and may become the first Monarch to play 200 games.

With Luca Robinson getting on in years, we look to cement our defensive line in free agency, and we get one of the best players available: LDE Ed Madison (60/60) from the St Louis Rams. He has 17 sacks in the past two seasons and is still young enough to be a valuable ten-year player for us.

Draft - as is our usual custom, we trade down from our first draft pick.

2.18 - MLB Cris Brohm (16/37)
2.30 - LCB Gary Henson (22/43)
4.20 - P Peter Barber (44/67)
4.30 - RDE Camden Schwartz (16/48)
5.19 - RDT Ricky Richardson (26/37)
5.30 - FS Evan Stoughton (18/35)
6.18 - FS Gilbert Dole (14/30)
6.30 - SE Bennett Logan (17/38)
7.30 - QB Bert Ojala (14/34)

After free agency, Bill Powell begins an unrealistic holdout and is released. We sign RCB Tony Hendon from the Panthers. He is rated 42/42 and promises to be a vital part of our defense with his great ratings in zone and run defense.

After training camp, Houston surprises us with an offer for our backup QB Richard Andrewcavage (23/35). Normally we don't deal away players to divisional opponents, but we'll make an exception in this case. We get a fourth and a seventh round pick.

After a dominant pre-season where we only let up 26 points in four games, it's off to the 2042 regular season.

L 28-37 @ Indianapolis - the Colts explode on offense, with 525 net yards
W 35-10 @ Philadelphia - a great return to our usual form
W 27-20 @ Cincinnati - we win in the final 90 seconds
W 24-13 v New York Jets - a pretty awful game, but we'll take an ugly win
L 14-28 v Miami - the Dolphins exploit our weakness against the running game
W 27-21 v Indianapolis - McConnell goes nuts against us for 454 yards and 32 first downs, but we pull off an important win. We lose Walker for a few weeks.
L 13-20 @ Tennessee - another divisional loss puts us out of the playoff spots
L 24-31 @ Buffalo - a disappointing loss, levels us out at 4-4
L 20-35 @ New England - our third straight loss puts us in dire straits.
W 34-6 v Houston - Kevin Walker returns with a bang! 10 tackles, 5 sacks.
L 14-30 @ Dallas - another loss and we have to win out from here on
L 0-31 v Oakland - just embarrassing. One of our worst ever losses.
L 16-30 v Washington - not much to be said here
W 26-20 v Tennessee - we take a peg off the Titans who are playoff bound. We lose Hancock for the rest of the season.
W 30-27 v New York Giants - a comeback win in our home closer
W 35-17 @ Houston - a third successive win prevents a losing season

Baltimore have somehow exploded the salary cap, and are $28m over for the upcoming season.

L 12-41 @ Tennessee - shocking loss to start the new season. The Titans hang 24 points on us in the final quarter.
W 38-13 v Tampa Bay - a big day of redemption, Blake throws three scores in the final quarter. We lose rookie lineman Damian Carow for an indefinite period with depression.
W 33-17 @ New York Jets
W 20-13 v Oakland
W 23-10 @ Indianapolis - rookie Danny Johnson has a day out with 6 sacks, a sack and a pick six
W 23-10 v Tennessee - this win puts us clear at the top of the AFC South
W 30-24 @ Kansas City - RB Jackson Koelling breaks his fibula and is almost certainly done for the season
W 28-16 v Denver - Blake has a big day with 354 yards and 4 scores
W 16-13 @ San Diego
W 37-7 v Houston - Johnson dominates again with another pick six
W 26-17 @ Carolina - We set a new franchise mark with a tenth successive win
W 37-17 v Cincinnati - we torment the Bengals QB with four picks, and two taken back to the house
L 28-34 @ Atlanta - our winning streak of 11 games comes to a swift end
W 37-21 @ Houston - we tie up another division title as we go 12-2
W 27-3 v New Orleans - we sew up the AFC #1 seed and rest our starters in the final game
L 6-21 v Indianapolis - we rest Blake, Hancock, Raymond, Walker and Campbell and accordingly play the Colts into the playoffs

Divisional Round
We tease the Raiders with a close contest. Blake throws 19/24-329 3TD. Jackson Koelling heads back into our lineup and contributes with 61 yards of his own. Levi Raymond is huge with 183 yards on 6 receptions.

AFC Championship Game
One of the great games.

We're off to the Super Bowl! This time, we're playing the Atlanta Falcons who have been to the big dance in the past two seasons, winning in 2041 and losing in 2042. Two of our defensive starters are probable, Kevin Walker with a broken nose, and David Risby with a broken foot.

We explode in the first half, with Josh Blake rushing for the first touchdown from nine yards, then leading an 80 yard drive culminating in Jackson Koelling receiving a short pass for the score. When Blake scrambled for his second score, London had opened up a 21-0 lead over the one-loss Falcons. There was more to come though, with Kevin Walker forcing a fumble on Atlanta's next drive, and Blake finding Raymond for the fourth touchdown of the half.

The second half was a victory lap for the Monarchs, although Atlanta closed the gap to 28-13. Jackson Koelling scored his second and third touchdowns of the Super Bowl on runs of 1 and 16 yards.

The Monarchs won the Super Bowl 42-13

Blake 26/39-273 2TD and 2-15 2TD
Koelling 19-101 2TD and 3-21 1TD
Raymond 7-81 1TD
Risby 3 tackles, 1 interception
Campbell 8 tackles, 1 sack
Walker 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Josh Blake was named the Super Bowl MVP.

All-League Team honours went the way of LDE Ed Madison (Second Team), SLB Danny Johnson (First Team), K Xander Echevarria (First Team) and FB Warren Andrews (First Team).

Danny Johnson was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year, the first Monarch to achieve this honour. He recorded 75 tackles, 21 assists, 3.5 sacks, 7 interceptions and 3 pick sixes.

Niko Koutouvides was narrowly denied his third Coach of the Year award, with the pundits instead selecting Willis McGahee from Atlanta for the honour.

Unfortunately I skipped ahead without saving the season review, so here are some highlights:

QB Josh Blake - 3796 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 11 interceptions
RB Jackson Koelling - 447 yards at 4.47 (7 regular season games), 320 yards at 5.52, 2 touchdowns (3 post-season games)
SE Levi Raymond - 82 receptions, 1087 yards, 9 touchdowns
FL Lukas Hancock - 75 receptions, 910 yards, 5 touchdowns
LDE Ed Madison - 45 tackles, 13.5 sacks

The staff stays intact, and we extend Josh Blake's contract until the end of 2048. Kevin Walker also gets a contract extension, in his eleventh season.

We sign SS Bernie Fredrickson (80/80) as our only free agent signing from the Ravens.

Our first round draft pick is traded away to the Ravens on draft day, in return for their first rounder next year.

3.32 - MLB Rod Norried (20/40)
4.32 - RB Carson Harper (23/30)
5.32 - RCB Brant Garvin (19/39)

So, onto the new season.

W 10-6 @ Houston - a squeaker of a result, with Raymond scoring an 89 yard match winner
W 19-7 v Detroit - our second ugly win in as many weeks
W 27-24 v Buffalo - we beat the Bills in a rare (for them) trip across the Atlantic
L 20-23 v Cincinnati - the Bengals come back from ten points down to win in over time.
W 16-9 v Cleveland - Koelling racks up 111 yards on the ground
W 16-10 @ Indianapolis - We open up some distance in the division with this close win
W 29-12 @ Pittsburgh - Tony Hendon goes mad for two sacks and an interception
L 16-19 @ Baltimore - a close loss to the 4-4 Ravens
W 23-20 v Tennessee - a tight win against the average Titans
L 17-22 v Houston - the Texans pull a game behind us in the division with this win. We are limited to just 10 first downs
W 27-10 @ Minnesota - a great, playoff-caliber win, sealed with two pick sixes to close out the fourth quarter
L 7-33 @ Oakland - and we follow up that win with a shellacking
W 30-24 v Chicago - a much better performance!
W 20-0 v Indianapolis - we seal the AFC South with this win
W 33-7 @ Green Bay - a routine win
W 38-31 @ Tennessee - we keep our starters in, given that the #1 seed is still alive. We seal it by virtue of our win over Buffalo earlier in the year! We miss Jackson Koelling for the rest of the season with a broken foot.

AFC Divisional Game
London 23 Kansas City 10
Blake 22/31-289 TD
Corbett 10-32
Raymond 7-117
Logan 4-75 TD
Johnson 41 yard fumble return TD

AFC Championship Game
Buffalo 17 London 3
Blake 29/48-249

Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments will hum about mine ears; and sometimes voices,
That, if I then had wak'd after long sleep, will make me sleep again; and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open and show riches ready to drop upon me, that, when I wak'd, I cried to dream again.

If you've read any of my previous dynasties, you'd know that I tend to chop and change how I present my reports the longer that the dynasty progresses. And thus it is with Isles of Wonder...we've gone from quarterly reports with quasi-detailed reports of games, to simple providing of scores, and now we're not even going to provide that much.

The main purpose of a dynasty, in my eyes, is for my enjoyment - the simple reporting of facts and figures is secondary, and the more detail I provide in the reporting, the less detail I commit to my playing of the game.

So I'm going to try something here. It may work brilliantly. It may be an abject failure. Who knows? I'm going to play out the season, and then provide a simple snapshot of the main accomplishments. With the Monarchs winning three of the last ten Super Bowls, my main focus is now replenishing and building a perennial contender.
