20 years since Frank Zappa died (Dec. 4, 1993)

Wow, I didn't realize it has been this long. He is definitely one of my favorite performers of all-time. Gone way too soon.

I'm very glad that as a HS student I went to see the Broadway the Hard Way tour. Without any sort of spectacle, it was one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen.

I got in trouble in high school for playing "Broken Hearts Are For Assholes" on the school radio station.

Absolutely one of my faves too.

Regretably, I never had a chance to see him live.

Incidentally, if you haven't seen Zappa Plays Zappa yet, I highly recommend it.

I went to see them this summer. Naturally, I expected to be disappointed: I didn't think it could possibly match my expectations for a "Zappa show," but Dweezil and co. absolutely pulled it off.

I had no opinion of Dweezil as a guitarist going in, but he is phenomenal. The rest of the band really nailed the wild, intricate set they played as well.

There's a DVD of the Zappa plays Zappa tour out. Best Buy had it.

Dweezil's solo stuff was pretty decent stuff for its time. The AZ/DZ stuff (with his brother Ahmet) was good. Shampoohorn and Music for Pets were the 2 cds. Confessions was another good Dweezil album.

I went to the Broadway the Hard Way tour sometime around 1988. A friend made me a t-shirt that said, "If You Don't Like Frank Zappa You Can Suck My Ass." An obviously stoned guy across the aisle from us read it and asked if I had a pair of underwear that said, "If You're Sucking My Ass You Must not Like Frank Zappa."
