Didn't Meyer check himself into the hospital after the SEC title game?

Of course, I hope he is ok health wise, but I'm looking forward to seeing the change in the recruiting landscape, particularly with Ronald Powell.

I hate to see the guy go out this way. I do hope he's ok.

However, this creates a seismic shift in the recruiting landscape. The scrambling between now and the 1st Tuesday in Feb will be interesting.

Really? Wow. This is huge. I hate the man (as a competitor. Not as a person), but it hurts to see anyone as talented as him have to step away because of health. It has to be something big health-wise (cancer? Heart problems?), because the dude is only 45. I'm just in shock.

I think the call list might look like this

1. Bob Stoops
2. Gary Patterson
3. Chris Peterson
4. Kyle Whittingham

I was thinking Patterson too, though apparently he "just signed" an extension. I wonder how dry the ink is. And apparently, Charlie Strong and Urban Meyer couldn't have been particularly close or else, Urban might have said "Hey Charlie, wait a few weeks will ya?"

UFA wouldn't have hired Strong anyway. No actual head-coaching experience (except one game as interim coach). They are not likely to even look at coordinators in the position they are in right now.

I think that Florida should go all-out & do whatever they can do to get a true coaching genius who knows the spread offense as well as anybody who has ever coached.

Good try.

Edit: You realize if Meyer retired two years ago, Rich Rod would have gotten the Florida job without question.

Edit: I do realize that, and that if Florida would show interest, Rodriguez would be a fool not to leave Ann Arbor in the rear-view mirror. He could actually have a decent chance for immediate success there.

Maybe he's suffering from a broken heart because Tim Tebow is breaking off their bro-mance since he doesn't want a long distance relationship.

Tony Dungy? He gets to stay reasonably close to home. Plus it gets him off my TV. He also said some stuff about wanting to work with youth. And this is about as good of a job as he can ever ask for.

ESPN is now reporting that he has a "heart defect" that is causing him to step down, but that it is not life-threatening at this time.

I think Dungy would be an awesome replacement if he was interested. If not, I think Stoops has to be near the top of the list if not at the top.

Anyone ever think Mike Shanahan gets a call from Florida?

He is a former OC there back in the early '80's.
