Survivor 40: Winners at War
Finally all winners.
Here's the trailer from the Survivor: Island of the Idols finale in case anyone missed it. Survivor - First look at the 40th season, "Survivor: Winners at War" - YouTube 20 year Survivor Retrospective airs 2/5 with the season premiering on 2/12. Hoping fire tokens doesn't overly complicate the game and that the Edge of Extinction doesn't ruin it. Press was officially released yesterday I think. CBS has the official cast here: Survivor: Island of the Idols 2019 Cast - CBS All Access and ET Canada's pregame interviews are up on YouTube. Starting tribes can be found here: Survivor Season 40 Tribe Divisions : Inside Survivor Survivor Season 40 Fantasy Draft Would 3 or 4 others here be interested in doing a 4 or 5 person fantasy draft on the season? I've seen them done on RHAP and thought it be fun to do one here. Here's the scoring I drafted. If you'd like to play and have thoughts on it feel free to comment. I do want to keep the scoring relatively straight forward though (i.e. no concessional count or naming the episode bonuses) so mainly if you think there should be scoring adjustments or categories removed.
Spoiler
Here's how two seasons would have scored (assuming I didn't make errors): Survivor: David vs. Goliath

I'm on board. Sounds fun. I've been doing a pool with friends for a few years now.

Updated the scoring by changing the winning bonus from 40 to 50 points. I wanted to give more weight to picking the winner. Giving the winner 25 more points the runner-up almost assures the winner always ends up with the most points in the season assuming they're not coming back for the Edge of Extinction.
Assuming, we can get five drafters, I think a classic snake is probably good. In fantasy football I like to do 1>12, 12>1, 12>1, and then snake to negate the advantage of a top pick but I think that's probably unnecessary with this cast. If we can only get four, then I think something like 1>4, 4<1, 1>4, 4>1, 4>1 would be fair. It'll be a slow draft here. Not sure what people's preference on a time limit would be. Somewhere between 16 to 24 hours per pick? Once we start, hopefully we can get through about 2 to 4 picks a day. We would just want to finish before 2/5. Draft order will be randomized. Either I'll PMd everyone for their emails and use a draft order randomizer site or maybe a known poster here can just volunteer to throw everyone's name in random.org and then post the order. I'd be down for this! I stopped watching Survivor for a few years but started back up the past couple seasons because my kids are into watching it.

Alright, we got our full crop of five drafters.
One oversight in my scoring that occurred to me is who gets credits for advantages that found on Edge of Extinction and then willed/sold to a player still in the game. I had forgotten that was a thing. Anyways, I gave the points in both cases to the wrong person. Rick found an advantage on EoE and then willed an advantage to Aubry and Aubry later found an advantage and will it to Aurora. Rick and Aubry should have received 2 points for those. I haven't edited my original post but keep in mind the scoring is slightly off for that season (+2 for Rick; -2 for Aurora). I also omitted giving points to whoever received EoE Get back in the game Challenge advantages (Chris and Keith the first time, forgot the final time) but I figure we might as well keep it that way. |

Can someone throw these five names into random.org's list randomizer for us and then post the draft order us?

Scoring update
I added the Legacy advantage, advantage menu, Safety without Power (what Janet passed up last season), and eliminate a juror to list of advantages found that would score 2 points. I also fixed the scoring totals from EoE that I mentioned earlier. I'll give everyone to the end of the day to review scoring to see if anyone sees any other oversights or if there is anything they think should be adjusted. I think we'll start the draft tomorrow with no clock and the 24 hour time limit per pick starting Friday since I'm not sure people check the site everyday. |

Just checking to make sure that the "surviving a round" points don't count for people who stay on the edge of extinction.

Larry keeps taking the top player on my board.
I think Kim is somewhat vulnerable the first couple of tribal councils though I think there are 2 or 3 players on her tribe more vulnerable then her. I think she's perhaps most vulnerable in the first few days after the first swap. In the ET Canada interviews, she was pegged as the 1b to Sanda's 1a as the Survivor G.O.A.T. and justifiably so given the way she dominated a newbie season like no other player ever has before or since. I probably would have taken her at 1.04 if she didn't have such a huge target entering the game. |

, I like ethan. I really do. He's a really nice guy. And that no longer is something that works in this game. That's how we won season 3 by being a nice guy. But he really didn't do much and in season 8 he got voted off because he just sat there and let himself be voted off. I think the game is way way way Beyond him. But I still like watching him Last edited by CrimsonFox : 01-23-2020 at 12:20 PM. |

Haha I'm with you there. Russell's first season I watched some of but I just couldn't take it after about five episodes I stopped watching and once heroes and villains aired I just didn't watch any of it I could tolerate the nephew Hantz more. But that was also a season where Phil was a complete jerk and Phil was the worst thing. Hantz almost beat the crap out of Phil and that would have been great TV. Jeff literally held him back. Don't agree with this. He was front and center of the alliance the entire time and made several important decisions, including throwing a challenge to get rid of Silas and blindsiding Brandon to prevent Lex from leaving the alliance. In All-Stars, he made it further than any other winner. I agree that the game may be past him, which is why I didn't pick him, but I think his previous two times out were more impressive than you described.

Honestly, I thought about going back to back with the Rob/ Amber pick for my 2nd and 3rd round picks, but that didn't last long. I'm perfectly fine with her on my squad though.

If Boston Rob goes early I think Amber can make a deep run and might even be a good bet to as long as her starting tribe isn't way down in the numbers going into the merge. She's a very underrated social threat. I think Rob is the more likely of the two to go early. He has Amber and one of his best real life friends in Tyson (for a much longer time then Lex) on the other tribe which has to be a huge concern for his starting tribe. However, I think Rob could stick around. He probably has the most pregame relationships of anyone in the game. I think Kim, Tyson, Adam, Ben, and maybe Jeremy have all played in poker events with Rob plus whatever other Survivor social events I'm unaware of that he has been a part of. In particular, I could see Jeremy and Adam wanting to keep him around as a meat shield. However, if those players, especially Adam, think they can trust Rob it could be to their demise. Rob has typically targeted cerebral types or people he perceives to be cerebral early such as Rob Cesternino in All Stars, Randy Bailey in Heroes vs. Villains, and Francesca in Redemption Island. Adam very much fits that description along with Yul and Sophie if he were to swap onto a tribe with them. |

I think with Edge of Extinction in play, Amber's chances could be hampered a bit. Normally, she could be someone who isn't seen as a threat and sneak into the final tribal. However, with EOE in play, I think people will be worried that Rob could return and have an ally in the game.

that's just it. he didn't do much because he didn't HAVE to do much. The other tribe was at civil war the whole time and his natural charisma and leadership ability just caused all the potatoes to follow him. Lex was indeed his only real competition but his strongest ally as well. But lex was also the most gullible player in survivor history. (well maybe second only to erik perhaps) And silas pretty much begged to be voted out with how bad of a liar he was. it was funny at the time i was reading comments about when silas was voted out. "But Eth, I'm not lyin, *munch munch*" referring to the popcorn he was eating. and speaking of silas...he's an alleged rapist which is a shame....he had a lot of energy and was funny in his fails. WOuld have been fun to see him again. 'Survivor' contestant Silas Gaither arrested on rape charges And Ethan's allstar appearance was sad. He just allowed Lex to steamroller him out of the tribe (which was another dumb move on lex's part as ethan wouldn't have booted him). But seriously I am thrilled to see ethan again. I said he was such a nice guy...probably one of the nicest people ever to make it that far and i'd rather watch him than a hundred other people. I'm also excited to see how he plays in the new survivor era! GO ETHAN! |
