NFL Divisional Playoff Thread
I went looking for this only to not see it unless I missed something. SF/NO so far going the way SF wants it to with it being a low score.

Saints had a good opening drive until the red zone (then Brees threw a should have been INT and the Saints fumbled)
After that, the Niners have controlled the game. Smith with a long TD pass to Davis and now an INT has the Niners inside the ten. Here is the big wart for them, can they punch it in? |

Niners can't ask for a better start than that. They had better keep sharp though, no doubt the Saints can score quickly.

14-0 49ers This plays right into the hands of the defense. Brees needs to come up with a big drive here.

We've secretly replaced Drew Brees with Jordan Jefferson. Let's see if anyone notices.

Ok, flashback. Chargers go up by 24 only to have the Dolphins come back in one of the greatest games ever. That's about the only thing that's going to make this 49ers/Saints game worth it.

Good job to hold the Niners to a field goal there. another TD would have been deadly.

I have no real team in this, but as an old school type of guy, I'm kind of loving the fact that the defensive team is the one winning.

Terrific catch. I hope for both the Saints and Graham he isn't playing with a concussion. Terrific catch and a much needed drive.

Wow, Graham looks like he is in la-la land. Great catch for a guy who is concussed.

If it comes out he's concussed, especially after the medical records that have come out and the entire McCoy fiasco, it's time the NFL starts taking larger measures. If he is concussed, they need to strip the Saints of a first round pick next year. The NFL can't keep talking about player safety and letting teams get away with this. |

Brees was in the tackle box there. Should have been intentional grounding.

IF there´s something to this theorie that he is concussed it could have just as well happened on that catch, that fall was at least as hard as the first 1.
Or he could have just bumped his head a little like it happens 2 dozen times each game, just not normally on scoring plays where people would notice a guy looking a little absently and to me it actually looked more like he was just mad how the game had gone so far, little frustrated. It´s one of those "hen or egg" things, if he hadn´t been shown hitting his head no one would have judged his expression to be of a concussion. EDIT : To be sure i wouldn´t want to defend anyone if he´s had a concussion, just saying that i´m not nescesserily see it and falls like that happen a dozen times in every game (heck, i´ve had quite a few of those playing soccer) Any word on Thomas yet ? After the first catch, he nearly fell down after standing up. They never showed any apparent injury and if it was the wind being knocked out, he would have stayed down til he got it back. After the TD catch, he was out of it. He looked more than dazed to me. I'm not a doctor and maybe they gave him the test on the sidelines and he passed it. All I know is that it's only the second time this year I've looked at a guy and said "he's out of it" The first time was McCoy and you can read me asking the question if he was concussed during the game. The second time this year is Graham. Maybe I"m 1/2. I'm just saying if it comes out after the game that he is, the league needs to take some severe action. |

Big third down coming up for the 49ers defense here. Stop em and you likely go into the locker room with the lead. Give up a first down and they may could trail after the first half despite playing so well at the start.

It´s just that you can look out of it without having a concussion, too.
I really don´t see a guy with a concussion (from the first fall) making a catch like that, but maybe i´m just not well informed here ? (having not followed football all that long and not following hockey at all) Last edited by whomario : 01-14-2012 at 06:05 PM. |

49ers need to score here and take advantage (ideally a TD), otherwise you are up just 3 despite forcing 4 TOs.

I dont agree with this. These guys catch thousands and thousands of balls throughout the year when you include practices. Even with a concussion, reflexes and muscle memory can take over. |

Graham was practically unconcious after that play. No sane doctor would let a player back out after that.

So the 49ers force 4 turnovers while having 0 themselves and they are in a three point game nearing the half? Wow.

San Fran's offense needs to understand the Saints won't stop. You have to put up points when you get the chance.

49ers need to make some serious adjustments at the half. The coverage has been excellent, but the lack of pass rush is giving Brees so much time it breaks down. Offense needs to start moving the ball as well - the Saints aren't going to turn it over 4 more times.

Two good teams. Saints have to be feeling fortunate. If the second half is as wild as the first, then everyone is going to be in for a treat.

I think part of it is this is a 49ers team that has no real playoff experience and Alex Smith is a QB who is pretty much asked to not lose the game. Any sort of TD by them puts it away and yet...

A lot of time left, but the Niners aren't hurrying to the line at all. This may be the drive that decides the game.
