Twitter blog said that search was having issues earlier.
Search in Twitter almost always seems to have issues...

Search (for a username, as opposed to for a keyword) is brutal on twitter. It also seems to take a few days before you start showing up in the results, even if someone searches for your exact user name.

I don't use Twitter, but passing this along for those who do. Sounds like Twitter is taking care of it now, but just in case you were affected by it:

Warning: Twitter Hit By StalkDaily Worm (Updated)

For those who do not want to visit the link, a worm was passing through people's twitter accounts by simply viewing infected Twitter pages or profiles.

People who used Firefox + noscript , or a different browser with javascript disabled should have been safe from it however.

Even more Twitter worms showed up over this last weekend. As far as I understand nearly 100% of them need for you to have javascript enabled for them to attack and spread. Is javascript being on a requirement for Twitter to actually work? If not, I highly recommend anyone who uses this to keep it turned off. Twitter seems to have a very big problem with XSS attacks.

A brief mention from a week ago by SANS regarding what the initial worm and the copy cat attacks all do to spread:

So how many people follow celebrities/athletes on Twitter? And do you ever tweet messages @ them? Get responses?

I got on Twitter a couple weeks ago now and have found myself hooked, much to my surprise. Not being a big celebrity hound either, I find the fact that pro athletes on there are into it so much they will tweet back @ some random Joe is odd and kind of funny all at once. I am surprised I have gotten into it though.

I pretty much only follow NBA players as far as celebs go. Had some tweet responses from Kevin Durant and a couple of others, but I don't really tweet @ them very often.

I've sent a tweet or two out, but never got a reply back.

There is one particular person on this message board that messages a number of celebrities every day.

The only "celebrity" I have on my list is the guy from Burn Notice.

I have a ton of celebs/athletes. I tweet them fairly often if they say something interesting. As for being tweeted back, the only "known" people who have tweeted me back is Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune ( The Watcher - All TV, all the time | Chicago Tribune | Blog ) a few times, Erick Erickson who is Editor-in-Chief of RedState.com, Saul Anuzis who ran for RNC Chair, and a retweet or two from @Mr_Met and @ATL_Braves (so no one really that famous).

Edit: Almost forgot, Ranger's Pitcher C.J. Wilson as well (telling me he's read Fire Joe Morgan, but likely Joe Morgan himself has not ).

I am kind of disappointed there is no one else I want to follow that I haven't been. No one else on my favorite teams in other words. I follow Packer LB Nick Barnett and Dynamo Players Brian Ching, Stu Holden, and Bobby Boswell. Barnett has very little to say that is interesting, but his posts amuse me. He is who I sent a message to today and actually responded right away. He seems to respond to a good amount of people.

Using the web without javascript these days would be painful. My advice would be to use a twitter app and to make sure you only allow javascript originating from the site it is on (I'm too lazy to look up the setting)

So I've finally caved to the new millenium and joined Twitter (twitter.com/codebaboon). I'm still not sure why, the jury is out.

Anyways, what are some good twitter apps for both PC and iTouch?

I only use TwitterFox (Firefox app) and Digsby, which has support for Twitter built into it. I am sure there are a ton of iTouch apps (I have an Instinct and use KBTwitter)

I've used Tweetie and TwitterFon for the iPhone and both work well. The latter is also free.

DestroyTwitter, TweetDeck and bDule all seem to be good desktop apps. The former two are both Adobe AIR, so OS doesn't matter. The latter is Windows.

Don't expect much in the way of exciting updates. I have had the account for a year and only updated it around a few times. If twitter gets their act together and fixes SMS messages in the UK I might use it more often.

If the board goes down I may use twitter for status updates.

Of my 3 accounts, I tweet the most on my discgolfshoes, Guy Kawasaki is paying people to constantly tweet for him, takes the allure out of it a bit, I almost wonder out of all the celebs and high level people using this, how many of them are talent that has been hired for just that.

there's a fair amount of twitter by proxy, but it's usually pretty easy to tell which ones are "organic" and which ones are not

I have Toronto FC and former Houston Dynamo player Dwayne DeRosario following me. For some odd reason I think it's a bullshit account.

I'm almost positive it's not him. There are a couple of TFC and Houston guys on Twitter but as far as I know, DeRosario is not among them.

I believe the Twitter folks have gone on record as saying they will introduce paid "professional" accounts for companies like Dell, Southwest Airlines and Comcast that use Twitter every day to interact with customers. I don't believe any sort of paid personal account is in the works right now.

Oh I am 100% certain it is not him. I follow the Dynamo guys, and those guys are real. They hang out together, post pics of each other, talk to and about each other. They are good to follow. This DeRo account is just a bad attempt from an obsessed fan.

Quick twitter question for you experts:

How do I change my date of post settings. For example, right now it says 4:44 AM June 3rd and I want it say about 5 days ago?

You can change your time zone but you can't retroactively change the day you posted a tweet.

I'm on there. I primarily use it to interact with others in the InfoSec community, but it is not exclusive. I am following ISiddiqui already, who I just happened to come across on there one day.

In general, don't expect a lot of replies from the start. A lot of that is going to be about timing and getting in with the right group/crowd (no surprise there).

After giving twitter a second shot, I got bored with it again and decided to remove the people I was following so I stopped getting the constant alerts from twitterfox.

The only thing that stops me from removing twitter completely from my life is Bill Simmons' uncensored twitter feed.

You can get his feed via RSS (into say Google Reader) if that's all you're looking for. This is how I viewed his tweets until I recently signed up for twitter.
