Love my apartment building. Great construction *sarcasm*. Ground floor unit...middle of the building...I already have two dripping spots from my ceiling.

Thanks man! I was definitely going WTF when my sis-in-law told me they are waiting it out at home. I mean they live in a county called "Ocean County". When a hurricane hits, basically it is time to flee for more inland areas.

Just talked to my dad (he's in Rhode Island) and he said they lost power and winds are gusting around 60mph right now. They aren't too far from the ocean, but, they are about 300 feet up in elevation, so they should be ok as far as flooding goes. Now trees, different story.

Took my dog for a walk about 20 minutes ago. Definitely feeling the gusts, especially after having a small branch whipped into my face by the wind.

Conditions worsen on Chincoteague; curfew called | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com

The VA islands, this is Chincoteague in particular, are getting completely covered in flood water. You can click the picture at the top left and scroll through the 4 they have posted.

Hearing now the DC area will get it's biggest impact from 8pm-4am. Still not likely to see repair crews out until Wednesday.

BTW, there are now feet of snow projected for WV and the Appalachians nearby. The blizzard warning, which is part of this system, has extended all the way to Charlottesville.

Just had probably the worst gust yet-- this one had to be damn near 60+.

My grandparents used to live in Spring Lake Heights across the street from Wreck Pond. I could only imagine had they still been around.

That busted crane in NYC looks deadly. It's almost guaranteed to break off at some point during the night, and if the gust is strong enough, it could fly off and impale itself into a high-rise.

Very scary.

Finally got my power back on. It had been out for about 4+ hours. Was sitting playing board games with the family and we got to watch our tree in the front yard go smash to the ground across the street. We were amazed that when it hit the power lines (we already had no power at this point), the tree actually splintered up and the lines didn't come down.

Still really crazy gusts here (around 60mph), so no idea how long I'll keep power. One of the bad things about living in the middle of nowhere.. in a wooded area

(and the lights flicker a bunch while typing this)

Glad you're safe and the tree fell in the other direction.

Actually, it is way more a nor'easter than a hurricane at this point. It is already breaking down into a post-tropical storm, but in this case it is still a huge surge-making storm.

No problems yet for me in Waltham, about 15 minutes from both Arlington and Wellesley. Not sure how accurate this map is, but the power outages certainly appear to be spread over the whole state but not total in any one area, although the Cape appears pretty close. One of the two towns that feed the HS I work at (Carlisle) is almost 100% affected too, but that's not surprising (small town, wooded area, lots of space between homes, not businesses). I don't think the other, much larger one (Concord) shows up because power is run through a town utility and not any company. - http://www.boston.com/news/weather/specials/sandy_power_outage_map/

I've been watching weather.com most of the afternoon. The Chesapeake region is one that I have frequently traveled about including stays in Ocean City and the Delaware Beaches two of the past three summers. Sad to see all that damage.

It as rather stupid of the mayor to tell people to stay. Politics in AC have been a joke for quite some time. The general rule is that if you are looking to find a corrupt politician just look at AC and one will be running the show there.

What a dick. Now is not the time for those sorts of attacks.

edit: Read up a bit, and this is the latest in a long running feud between Christie and the mayor.

Where the West Side Highway goes into the Brooklyn/Battery tunnel there is a rushing waterfall. The whole tunnel may fill up at this rate.
