Star Wars DVD question

What are my options for buying all six episodes in non-blu ray format?

I own the prequel trilogy on DVD and it looks like ass.

I actually have it, my mother in law found it for me a few years ago. I have no idea where though, but it is out there.

Wow, I searched Amazon and both the trilogy and the three prequels there clock in at over 150 dollars for each set. Might as well just download it and burn it, because that's ridiculous.

Yeah, I thought Lucasfilm stopped putting the DVDs in moratorium but apparently they went back in moratorium ahead of the Blu-ray launches. The good news is they will almost certainly be released again ... problem in 2014-15 ahead of the new movies hitting theaters.

Bad news is that leaves you very limited right now. If you find a new or used DVD in good shape for $20-30, you're probably doing pretty well.

I have the DVDs for 4-6. Pretty sure they're the Special Edition re-releases from before the prequel trilogy.

So the Death Star explosion has the added oomph, but Hayden Christensen hasn't been edited in as Ghost Vader.

I bought them cheap at a pawn shop and the quality is terrible....though watching the Blu ray releases is awesome and a highly reccommended experience if you get a chance!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a Blu-Ray player and then buy the Blu-Rays?

I think I bought the original trilogy lightly used for about $25 on ebay a few months back.

I've always wanted to watch all six of these in short succession some time but figuring out what versions to get seems exhausting. The review sections on Amazon have really complicated explanations about what versions of the original trilogy you're getting with each different blue-ray version, and a lot of annoyed reviewers who didn't understand what they were buying.

Maybe - this is part of our gift list for a child in need. I didn't want to presume he had a blu ray player. I can't Believe how complicated it is to figure out what's what. Best I can tell is that a non blu ray can only be acquired new by buying two separate trilogies unless you want to pay like 150 on eBay.
