Ramos Crowned Top CL Hitter in April
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: Jesús Ramos of the Baltimore Gothams certainly made a resounding impression on the Continental League pitching corps in April and today reaped the reward as the league's best batter for the period.

The first baseman put up some good offensive figures as he hit .347 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored.


MacTire Takes Best Bat Award in April
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: Even though he is a newcomer to Front Office Offseason League, Phil MacTire put up some good numbers in April and earned the RL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Los Angeles's offensive leaders with a .354 average in 27 games. He also racked up 1 home run, 13 RBIs, and 25 runs scored.

Martínez Garners CL #1 Pitcher Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: As José Martínez hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for April, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Baltimore once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Martínez put pressure on the Gothams to keep him around by posting a 4-1 record and an ERA of 1.08 over 41.2 innings last month. He also rolled up 25 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Baltimore and to every other team in the league.


April's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Oprel
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Reginald Oprel still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 32-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 6 wins and no losses with 33 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.54 ERA in 46.2 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: José Juárez was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 21 games Juárez batted .341 for Brooklyn, slapping 28 hits in 82 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 12 runs and scored 13 times.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2160: Phil MacTire earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Los Angeles left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

MacTire hit .354 with 1 home run, 13 RBIs and 25 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

May's Best CL Hitter is León Gómez
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, León Gómez can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 32-year-old center fielder for Cleveland was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In May he batted .299 with 12 home runs, 39 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

So far this season, Gómez has recorded a .273 batting average with 51 hits, 16 home runs, 49 RBIs, 39 runs scored and a .340 OBP.


Santiago May's Best Bat Choice
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old David Santiago put together a solid offensive month for Colorado and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .379 with 9 home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 runs scored.



For the season Santiago is currently batting .301 with 14 home runs and 35 RBIs. In 50 games he has reached base at a .382 rate and scored 35 runs to date.

Winter Wolves Martel Named CL's Best Pitcher
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Lucien Martel hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Halifax starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 45.1 innings, struck out 25 and compiled a solid 1.19 ERA.

This year Martel has fanned 56 in 82 innings and collected a 6-1 record with a 1.43 ERA.


Nadeau Acclaimed Top Pitcher in May
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Olivier Nadeau was the anchor in the Toronto bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 17 innings over 13 relief appearances and collected a 4-1 record with 10 strikeouts and 5 saves while etching his 1.06 ERA.

So far this season Nadeau has chalked up a 3.18 ERA with 13 saves. In 25 relief appearances he has registered a 4-3 won-lost record and struck out 18 batters in 28.1 innings, while walking 5. He has allowed teams to hit .252 against him.

Garza Jr. Honored by Continental League
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Baltimore has a new rising star.
His name is José Garza Jr. and he is May's Rookie of the Month in the Continental League. This standout first-year pitcher wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance over the last month.

In 5 starts he chalked up 4 wins and no losses with a 1.16 ERA, notched 25 strikeouts in 38.2 innings and held other clubs to a .238 average.

Checking out his stats for the year, Garza Jr. has racked up 6 wins and 2 losses in 10 starts, 1.83 ERA and struck out 50 batters in 68.2 innings.


May Sensation RL's Best Rookie
Sunday, June 1st, 2160: Phil MacTire is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Los Angeles hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .309 average with 30 hits, 1 home run and 9 RBIs.

Thus far this season MacTire is hitting .333 with 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has 70 hits in 210 at-bats and has played in 51 games.

CL Top Batter Trophy Won by Ray
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: Steve Ray of the Napa Valley Winemakers stood out at the plate during June. The 31-year-old third baseman manhandled Continental League pitchers by batting .440 and was selected the Batter of the Month.

Ray collected 37 hits with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 19 times.

In this current campaign Ray is hitting at a .317 clip with 19 home runs and 48 RBIs.


Jorge Vázquez Selected June's Best Batter
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: Free agent-to-be Jorge Vázquez has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In June, the 29-year-old Hartford first baseman hit .356 with 10 home runs and 22 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Vázquez has collected 63 hits for the Harpooners this year, 19 of them home runs. He has also netted 57 RBIs and scored 40 runs while batting .278.

Brown Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: Steve Brown is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for June.

He made no relief appearances for Halifax last month, throwing 37 innings and collecting no saves, a 4-0 record, 23 strikeouts and a 1.95 ERA.

So far this year Brown has been credited with no saves, registered a 4.52 ERA and struck out 49 in 81.2 innings. He also has a 4-7 record.


Romero Named Top RL Hurler
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: Juan Romero has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rebels bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings, holding the opposition to a .228 average and posting a 0.56 ERA and a 2-0 record.

He has 37 relief appearances in 2160, worked 41.2 innings and struck out 42. Juan Romero has posted 21 saves with a 0.86 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Big Month Brings in CL Top Rookie Trophy
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: Robbie Marsh's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Brooklyn catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .364 with 8 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Marsh also scored 17 times and drove in 12 runs.

So far this year in 70 games Marsh is hitting .312 with 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and 35 runs scored.


Lewis Wins Rookie of the Month
Tuesday, July 1st, 2160: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Brady Lewis just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 24-year-old first baseman for Toronto hit .326 with 14 hits, 5 home runs and 12 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .412 on-base percentage.

This year Lewis is hitting at a .272 pace with 8 home runs and 22 RBIs. He has played in 39 games and scored 23 times.

CL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Friday, August 1st, 2160: Brooklyn left fielder José Juárez took home the Continental League Batter of the Month Trophy for July.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .381 batting average and .440 on-base percentage with 37 hits, 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This year Juárez has hit 20 home runs and posted a .320 batting average.


Los Angeles's Sawyer Chosen RL Batter of the Month
Friday, August 1st, 2160: John Sawyer battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Sawyer told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Sawyer hit .381 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

A look at his season totals shows Sawyer with 15 home runs, .316 BA, .423 OBP, 71 RBIs and 69 runs scored.

Martínez Acclaimed Top Pitcher in July
Friday, August 1st, 2160: Veteran José Martínez put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Baltimore Gothams, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Martínez racked up a 4-0 record in 4 starts, posting a 1.71 ERA over 31.2 innings and striking out 20.

In 20 starts this season Martínez has rung up a 14-3 record and a 1.79 ERA.


Carter RL Winner, Top Hurler in July
Friday, August 1st, 2160: Shawn Carter will be bringing July's Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Los Angeles. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Carter started 5 games, going 4-0 with 22 strikeouts in 33 innings as he compiled his 1.09 ERA.

So far this season Carter has compiled a 10-6 record with a 3.57 ERA.

Friday, August 1st, 2160: Youngster José Juárez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Brooklyn deserved the honor, batting .381 with 8 home runs and 21 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Juárez enjoy the limelight.

Cleveland Center Fielder CL's Best Batter in August
Monday, September 1st, 2160: León Gómez earned August's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .333 average, going 30 for 90 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Cleveland clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

Looking at his stats this year, Gómez has compiled a .291 batting average, while hitting 34 home runs and driving in 100 runs. He has played in 126 games and scored 92 runs.


Larson Crowned Batter of the Month in August
Monday, September 1st, 2160: Today Lyle Larson was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for September. During the month the 28-year-old Hammersmith center fielder compiled a .307 batting average.

Most importantly for the Hooligans though, he also posted 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

This year Larson is hitting .317 with 170 hits, 25 home runs, 71 RBIs and has scored 95 runs.

Torres Selected CL's Best Pitcher
Monday, September 1st, 2160: Miguel Torres nailed down August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Noblesville to get a deal done before the 30-year-old becomes a free agent.

Torres seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 26 strikeouts, worked 35 innings and held batters to a .183 average for the month as he posted a 2.06 ERA.

So far this season Torres has a record of 10-7 with 132 strikeouts and 38 walks in 148 innings and a 3.77 ERA.


González Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors
Monday, September 1st, 2160: Félix González's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in August, the 31-year-old Hartford hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 46 in 46.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.93 and allowed opponents to hit .223 against him.

Thus far this season, González has tossed 154.2 innings in 26 starts, fanned 149 batters, walked 36 and put up a 5.12 ERA with 9 wins and 8 losses.

Monday, September 1st, 2160: The best Continental League rookie in August was Brooklyn's left fielder José Juárez.

He hit .306 with 30 hits, 6 home runs, 15 RBIs, and 14 runs scored. He also walked 4 times on his way to a .364 OBP.

The standout rookie left fielder took the award by connecting for 33 hits in 108 at-bats for a .306 batting average. During the month he collected 1 home run, drove in 11 runs and scored 11 times.

MacTire is swinging at a .309 pace on the year with 4 home runs, 53 RBIs and 92 runs scored. He has played in 129 games.

McCromley Grabs CL Best Batter Award for September
Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: When guys like Halifax's Bill McCromley win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 32 hits in 90 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .356 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This season in 152 games McCromley is batting .294 with 44 home runs, 101 RBIs and has scored 103 times.


López Claims RL Batter of the Month Award
Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: For the month of September, Jesús López of the Colorado Rancheros has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Republic League pitchers to the tune of a .375 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

López went 36 for 96 last month with 12 walks. The second baseman tallied 6 home runs, 19 RBIs, 19 runs scored and compiled a .469 on-base percentage.

In this current campaign López is hitting at a .295 clip with 26 home runs and 105 RBIs.

Villa Top CL Pitcher in September
Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: Francisco Villa took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in September. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Apex last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.08 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 34.2 innings and striking out 25.

To this point in the season, Villa shows a 13-13 record, 31 starts, 200.1 innings, 151 strikeouts and a 3.64 ERA.


Flynn Is RL's Best Pitcher in September
Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: The Pitcher of the Month Award in September has been selected and the Republic League honor went to Toronto hurler, George Flynn. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

During the month, Flynn was superb with a 2.40 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 30 innings he struck out 15 and gave up 27 hits and 4 walks.

Up to now Flynn has compiled an ERA of 3.25 with a 19-6 mark over 30 starts. He has 140 strikeouts in 210.2 innings and has held opponents to a .267 batting average.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: Floyd Miller put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In September he chalked up 40 hits, 3 home runs and drove in 12 runs. The Halifax left fielder compiled a .377 average and a .432 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 5 walks.

Miller has collected 208 hits for the Winter Wolves this year, 7 of them home runs. He has also netted 57 RBIs and scored 109 runs while batting .329.


Los Angeles Rookie Hits His Way to RL Honor
Wednesday, October 1st, 2160: September was a month to remember for Los Angeles first baseman Tony Britt and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Britt compiled a .526 batting average and .526 on-base percentage last month. In 10 games he piled up 20 hits, 4 home runs, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

So far this year in 50 games Britt is hitting .304 with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
