Are you talking about what I said to path12? It was meant as sarcasm, Sherlock. He said the word "wolf" 3-4 times, so I was being a smartass. You do understand sarcasm, right?

The fact that you jumped on me so fast, when I was obviously being facetious makes me a little leary of you. Or maybe I should look at it as you just not getting it.

Ok, so I have figured out that in this game the humans are the informed minority, and the wolves the uninformed majority. So let me say for the record, I am a wolf.

Now, I didn't play in Foz's last game - would somebody who was there like to comment on what sort of secret roles he likes?

Let's see.. turning a member of the informed minority into a member of the majority (and he did it well too.)

Converters.

Casting doubts on the death of some folks.

Having a good guy look like a bad guy..

Aw hell.. it's more fun to read about it then to write about it..

Here's the last game

http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...highlight=XCom

But I'm not promising to use any of those tricks again, I have a whole bunch of new tricks up my sleeve

OK, pretty quiet so far this weekend. No surprise there.

Over the last couple of games, it seems that the "quiet wolf" has become more in vogue again. I just hate that style of play, personally. I think it sucks some of the life out of the game when there is no real clash between the good/evil forces. I understand that people should play to win in the best way they know how, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

With that in mind, I'm planning to attack inactive players a little more aggressively in my voting patterns than in past games. This goes not only for post count, but for lurkers in the thread who are not posting. Obviously I'm not going to overlook significant game information to only look at activity level, but if I'm going to be wrong on a vote then I would prefer to miss by taking out an inactive player (all other things being equal).

Here are the guys who have not posted since roles were released:
mckerney
tyrith
tanglewood

Obviously we are not yet in voting mode (Night 0 and all) but I figure we may as well try to get the conversation going now rather than waiting until Tuesday.

Sure, it is a holiday weekend and some people aren't even on FOFC (gasp!). And I'm going to be really, really happy if I don't have to consider anyone "quiet" over the course of this game because everyone is posting in the thread. But based on previous games I expect the more likely scenario will involve selecting between quiet guys (who may or may not be among the three who have not posted in the last 30 or so hours).

Hoops, what makes you think that finding a wolf amongst the quiet ones will be net EV?

Ok, here's my analysis:

Tyrith - Only has one vowel in his name. It is widely understood in the scientific community that people with a single vowel in their name are much more trustworthy than people with a multitude. Also, Tyrith's name incorporates the name Tyr, the Norse god of justice.

It cannot be more clear that Tyrith is an honorable man; therefore, he is in my circle of trust.

mckerney - The irish are a noble race. Although they enjoy their spirits, they are decent folk, and can be counted on for truthful answers. The only drawback is that his name is not capitalized. This shows a tendency to want to hide beneath the guise of meekness, while simutaneously having the need to explode with emotion boiling below the surface. Such a combustable person is likely to blow at any moment, even if it hasn't happened yet.

I am torn on mckerney, so I am forced to put him in the warily trusted category.

tanglewood - This case is quite easy to read, and is quite disturbing. The vowel to consonant ratio is extremely high, and I as said above, this is a HUGE red flag. That alone would be enough to damn tanglewood, but there's even more.

Let's more closely at his name. It can be broken down into two troubling parts: tangle and wood.

Tangle - 1. To mix together or intertwine in a confused mass; snarl.
2. To involve in hampering or awkward complications; entangle.
3. To catch and hold in or as if in a net; entrap.

Wood - 1. Mentally unbalanced; insane.
(adj. from middle english wode)

As you can see, it is obvious that the name "tanglewood" is a none-to-subtle threat to the rest of us. He is a maniac who wants to confuse us and ensnare us in his insidious plot to gain dishonorable victory. Add in the fact that his name isn't even capitalized, and it is clear that he must be destroyed before we are destroyed.

tanglewood is on my EXTREMELY distrusted list.

Trends over the last few games (excluding me as a wolf, as I'm not exactly the quiet type) is one justification for this stance. But probably the bigger one is that I will have more fun playing with active players, which makes it +EV for me personally. I hope that this coincides with catching humans (not wolves this time, BK).

Again, this won't be my only criteria for voting. But consider it my internal tie-breaker.

I will give you that much. You aren't trying to confuse us with your name, as tanglewood is. You like hoops and you're a guy.

But the lower-case situation combined with the vowel issue, still makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Anxiety, what is the downside in pushing a little bit? If there are better Day 0 strategies out there I'm open for listening to them. The consensus for Day 1 votes is that they are a crapshoot anyways, so why not throw something out there that generates some conversation?

That said, I'm not openly campaigning for one of those three people to get voted off the island right away. Is there a chance I will end up going that way? Sure, and that chance is probably better than 3 in 15 but we have about 70 hours of discussion between now and the vote deadline for Day 1. Plus any additional info that may come out from Night 0 (hey, we could get lucky). So please don't get the idea that I'm locked in on voting for one of these people just yet.

What I would like the takeaway from those posts to be is that we have been seeing quiet play by the bad guys get rewarded in the last few games.
1.) I don't like losing these games
2.) If I'm going to lose I would rather it be to someone who outsmarts me rather than to someone who avoids talking to me

I'm in the midst of reading Foz's X-Com game, and I just want to point out that this is not Day 0, but NIGHT 0. And apparently Foz likes for lots of stuff to happen during the night. My point here is that whatever direction we go in today will be pretty much nullified by whatever ends up happening during the night, and may even get us wolves in trouble.

I don't mind you explaining your strategy, and its your strategy. so no problems here. It just seems a bit premature, that's all.

BTW, who says that you can't be both outsmarted and not talked to?

Responding to hoops about quiet players: I agree, the quiet wolf thing would seem to take some out of the game. Mainly I was quiet last game because everyone trusted me for the reason that I was the newbie, and I wasn't going to rock the boat. You can expect to see a lot more witty commentary and snarky remarks out of me this time around.

Oh trust me, the game's no fun when the GM screws you over. It's much more fun when the GM gives the other PLAYERS the ability to screw you over
