You are ignoring the other drawback to having this law ruled unconstitutional - wasting a day to get the seer. That's a much bigger deal than a hit to one's popularity.

I agree that losing the day is a HUGE waste but if we don't pass the bill, we've got the same problem. At least by passing it, we have a chance that it'll get by the court rather than just sit by and do nothing. This is how we allow government to grind to a halt.

I would take a really close look at whoever designed that first bill. It seemed pretty blatantly unconstitutional to me.

Deep down in my soul, I do not believe that it is morally right to use surveillance methods on American citizens without a properly obtained court order. Indeed, on this issue, the Fourth Amendment is quite clear.

I have heard from my constituents, time and time again, about their concerns over this measure, and I cannot, in good conscience, support it.
