Wow. I am digging the fact that the enemies don't scale like they did in Oblivian. I just got my ass handed to me by some super mutants while I was floundering around in the wasteland. The fact that the missile he launched at me blow both my legs off as I flew through the air was a nice little bonus.

I was going to try holding off on getting this, maybe putting it on my Christmas list.

Then my roommate came home with the 360 version.

...I'll be hopping the bus to the store after my office hours tomorrow to pick up a version. Can't decide between 360 and PS3, though. Maybe I'll give Oblivion a run through on the PS3 tonight to see how I do with the controller again.

Just going by general impressions on other sites, you might want to go with the 360 version. Apparently it has better textures and draw distance or something, plus DLC that only the 360 and PC versions get.

Now I've put in about ten hours on the PS3 version and I think it looks great and haven't suffered any crashes or choppy framerates but I don't nit-pick technical aspects of games as much as others.

On the main quest I still need to go check out Galaxy News Radio to find Dad, I've been putting it off to make money and level up a bit while hitting the side-quests. Since I'm pretty much useless at FPS/TPS with analog sticks I really have to rely on VATS in combat against Super Mutants/enemies with armor that covers most of their bodies.

I haven't been through the downtown Metro, just Northwest Seneca Station. Is this where some of the graphical issues people have been having occur?

I'm also looking for the brother of a Megaton resident, helping Moira write her Survival Guide, and am about to go after these fire breathing ants.

I'm pretty pissed that I won't get my own home in Megaton since Mr. Burke shot the sheriff when confronted about his plans to detonate the bomb. I capped his ass but it's lame having to fast-travel over to Grayditch just to sleep/heal. It almost makes me wish I'd have just blown the place up.

I had turned off the PS3 for the night but now I won't be able to resist another hour or so of playing, this game is addictive. So far it might be the best one I've played all year.

First kill with the pistol in the vault I did a head shot in VAT and the guard's head flew off across the room.

Man, loving this game. Played for another couple hours yesterday (before playing my EBFL game) and made some progress. I made it to GNR, used speech for success so I don't have to do anything for Three Dog, and started to make my way south. I ran into health and ammo problems though so I bailed on that for now, bolted back to Megaton and

Saved the city by disarming the nuke using boosts. In doing so, I earned a bunch of caps and, better yet, my own house with a butler and all. I've heard that blowing up Megaton gets you more money and a nicer pad but I'll take the karma of saving the city, particularly after I killed Grandma trader by the river

I'm sure it was just a self-fufilling prophecy over there. I have no doubt that when Bethesda announced a 3D form of Fallout 3 the seed of suck was planted and no matter what happened, that seed of suck grew into a tree of hatred for Fallout 3 so, they weren't going to like it no matter what.

Once you disarm the bomb, go to the sheriff's house. His son will present you with a deed to an empty house in Megaton that you can use.

Wow. I just spent 2 hours on this game, and barely got to wandering around in Megaton. I probably could have spend even more time in the Vault, too. I poked around in the school outside of Megaton a little and killed some guys, but I have a feeling I'll be going back there for a reason at some point.

Anyway, I had a crash in Megaton on the PC version. I was about to go into a building and it died. I had saved not too long before that, so I'm okay, just FYI though.

I just made it to Georgetown. It is pretty ridiculous because I have 1 stimpack left, and hardly any ammo. This is absurd. I got killed by a missle the first time I played this area and I have NO idea where it came from.

Suggestion for those on PC version.

Make sure you don't rely on a quicksave, try out a new character, quicksave, and go back. for some reason I thought they'd be kept seperate. I lost about 5 hours of playtime. . Had to start ALLLL the way back where I left the vault.

...And holy shit. The last time I got sucked this hard into a console game was all the way back to Jade Empire. I couldn't believe it when the roommate came back to re-claim his game and it was 4:00 pm.

I spent a lot of time running around the Vault. I'll have to go through it a second time when I get my own copy but I'm looking forward to it.

Meanwhile I'm wondering if there's anyone else that did what I did in the vault.

When I was given the pistol by the Overseer's daughter, I gave it back to her. She then showed up alive at the vault entrance. I tried to get her to go with me, but she refused. Do the security guys that show up kill her or is she still alive? I tried to go back and see, but the bastards kept shooting laser fire at me, so I couldn't find out. As awesome as I was with my baseball bat, that's not gonna hold up to those kind of guys. And yes, I wasted my BB bullets killing Butch after I couldn't find the entrance to save his drunken whore of a mother before the Radroaches ate her.

I actually think you get a -lot- more out of the game if you've played Fallout 1 and 2. It was such a thrill for me to go from third person of those games I loved to the first person of this game. It really made me feel like I'm the Vault Dweller and I don't think that sensation is nearly as acute if you haven't played the prior games.

I kept the gun and she still lived to see me off in at the vault door. I fended off the guards WITH the gun, then searched the vault some more before leaving. I'm gonna have to go through the beginning again and do some things differently to see what else can happen.

I finally got my own place, thanks. Hopefully I throw enough grenades that putting all those points into explosives was worth it. That Moira charges an arm and a leg for house items though.

Right after I'd arrived at a location via fast-travel, these three mercenaries ran up on me and said they were sent to kill me. Apparently I'm "another holier-than-thou white knight that needs putting down." They were well-armed but I took them out even though I used more stimpaks than I would have liked. Looks like my head is worth 1000 caps.

I must have gotten my karma too high or something, my character is labeled "very good" and "Ranger of the Wastes" in my Pip-Boy. The sheriff's kid wants to be just like me when he grows up and some villager gave me eighteen caps for being a good guy or something. I even got a shout out on GNR!

This game has definitely exceeded my expectations thus far.

So I got an email that Gamefly shipped this on Oct. 28th. I guess I returned Mercenaries 2 at the right time. The only big problem is that I am in Alaska for the week for work, so I won't see it until at the minimum 8pm on Firday Oct 31st. So I fly out at 8 am tomorrow and get home at 7:30 on Friday. Well crapola. After almost 3 hours of play into it, I got my character completely screwed.

After telling the sherrif about the dude who wants to blow up the town, we race up and the sherrif decides to haul the guy in to jail. Well the dude kills the sherrif and I kill the dude. I collect everything off the sherrif, which included keys to the armory. Well I decide to open the armory, since I have keys and all, and of course all hell breaks loose. My last autosave is me LEAVING the armory after meeting the lovely deputy robot. I shot my way out of the town, but I don't think they'll want to see me again. Time to start over I guess, and save manually more often.

Notice when my posts were? I was asking the same thing man. The only problem I have with this game is that it creeps me out, and I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to play it more. Halflife 2 and Bioshock were the same dang way. I usually only get evening times to play these things too, so dark + creepy feelings + easily freaked out adult male = game that doesn't get finished often in this house.

I don't know though, I really like this game.

So Jericho tells me Colin's got mad loot in the cabinet by his bed and that the key's around Moriarty's neck. I pickpocket the key while Moriarity's at his computer, only to find that it doesn't open the damn bedroom cabinet. Any idea where I can find the key to crack that thing open or am I just going to have to pump in the lockpicking skill? BTW, I don't want to know what's in the cabinet. I just want the damn key to get at whatever's in it. I'm pissed Jericho gave me wrong info and I'm tempted to load up the Sheriff's gun and shoot his motherf'ing head off like I did ol' Granny Sparkle, that dumbass Duvot wannabe playboy motherfucker and his two hos. Man, them girls freaked out just because I shot his head off from the back with Granny's hunter rifle.. so I had to go upstairs and shoot them too. Whores man, can't trust them worth anything.

Is this the kind of game that a non RPG fan could get into? I have been trying to decide between this, Farcry 2, and a couple others. I like what I am reading here but being a guy that has never been a huge RPG fan I am wondering if it is something I will enjoy.

Can't speak for Far Cry 2, but the one thing to understand about Fallout 3, is that you go through the 1st chapter, you exit the vault and then *bam* the world is yours to explore at your own risk.

So I ran into two mutants heading to Arefu, and I like that it forces you to walk again, no fast travel until you find the place, and I think Fallout is far more lethal an environs than Oblivion. So I see two supers off in the distance slowly lumbering, and I sneak up to this jackknifed tractor trailer. I slowly turn to go in the trailer when I see the hulking back of the one supermutant...luckily I had the chinese assault rifle from the dead sheriff at megaton and unloaded on this guy (good thing too, because he had the missle launcher with missles)...the other mutant came to his aid but I was able to do the backing up and shooting defense till he fell.
Ammo being rare right now, I don't venture too far. But it was an exciting moment...I'm just glad the initial mutant had his back turned.

So I was in Georgetown and I didn't have the weapons/ammo to survive, let alone the medical supplies. I went back to Megaton and had an all out war with the villagers after going to the armory. Before I left I went to the clinic, got as may stympacks as possible then I killed the Doc, and took his key to the medical locker where I got all my caps back and some more styms. Sadly I had to go back to the nearest station to Georgetown which sucks but at least I'll be ready.

I headed out for the MegaMart. I snuck in the door and first thing I see is a female raider dancing on top of the shelves where the dead bodies are on hooks. Luckily she didn't see me and a quick shot from my pistol knocked her clear off the shelf. Moving on, I made my way to the pharmacy and got the meds.

While I was there I hacked the computer and activated the robot. The two of us were a great team. He rolled out and engaged the enemies while I crept and sneaked which made all of my shots criticals since I was surprise attacking. We cleared that whole building with me as the robots wingman. I've heard complaints about the NPC AI but it worked great in the Megamart.

Oh, and in tight quarters, like the pharmacy I find that I have to rely on real time since I get peppered while waiting for AP otherwise. It adds to the urgency of combat when this happens and I really like that even though obviously I've built a VAT character type.
