Working on my picks now.
In the meantime, where are we headed with year-to-year retention of players? I had the thought that we could retain as many as we want, but in a way that affects draft position. Note that we have a 35-round draft here. If I wanted to retain 25 players next year, I would just forfeit my first 25 draft picks. Somebody else might keep just 8 guys, and so his first pick would be in the 9th round. On and on that would go. Thoughts? |

We had a few posts early in the thread about this and 7-10 were numbers being bandied about most for protected players and I couldn't find were a definitive number was decided on. I am drafting on a assumption of being able to protect no more than 10 players. We should probably vote on this pretty quick |

This is what I was going off of, as there didn't seem to be much discussion beyond that of protected players so it seemed like folks were in agreement. Of course we then ended up with 35 man rosters so extrapolating that to 1/3 would be 11-12, but I am fine with 8. It would be good for folks to weigh in though, as it doesn't seem like what I had assumed was picked up by others. |

Good question, but I certainly hope there isn't since I'd been assuming there wasn't (based simply upon the year). Otherwise I'd definitely have done some things differently in the draft, namely not avoiding some players because of their poor defense.

I almost hate to ask this sort of question so I'll preface by saying that I'm not trying to bitch insomuch as I simply don't know (my general avoidance of mp projects has been mentioned numerous times through the years) but I'm wondering:
Does it seem as though the draft might need to pick up the pace a little bit somehow? We've basically gotten through 11 rounds in 8 days, which means that on the current pace we'll finally wrap up the draft somewhere around June 22nd or 23rd, more than two weeks from now and would have been drafting for just short of a month. Maybe that's normal & I'm just not savvy enough to realize it -- that's a definite possibility -- it's just starting to concern me a bit.

I'm fine with whatever number of players being held over, and I figured we were playing without DH

sorry guys...swimming tonight...I'll have the boys picks in the morning. We can discuss all the items mentioned above, and I'll start enforcing a time limit now that we are 10 rounds into the draft...but we'll have to discuss how to handle this because I can't make auto picks from work...

I would not be opposed to drafting up to 15 or 20 rounds and letting the program auto pick from that point, since we would have our core be then. If going with 25 man rosters I like 8 protected players and 10 if we go 35. |

I'm fine with whatever number and also vote no DH because it wasn't going then.
My plan is to pretty much have the program pick for me after a certain point, probably somewhere around 15 or so. It is going to take longer for diminishing returns much past that for me anyway.

FTR, not picking on you here BYU at all, just quoting your post as a jumping off point (rather than reinventing the wheel). Something like that - drafting partial & then auto-pick from there - I'd pretty much be done. Would put a stake in the heart of my interest entirely. I raised the time issue but I'm not sure what the solution is short of either time limits or by some miracle a planned mass session where we were all there.

I hear you totally Jon, I should have indicated as a user preference, so we could draft all rounds or stop at any point. I think I would likely go to round 20, then let auto pick take over.
That would speed it up quite a bit while leaving the option open of anyone that wanted to manage the entire draft. Or if we all could set aside an hour or two like you stated and just draft. Last edited by BYU 14 : 06-07-2013 at 12:54 AM. |

I think 8 or 10 keepers is good. (I'm actually good with it being less but It doesn't bother me).
No DH obviously, I think we were all pretty much assuming that anyway. As far drafting goes, I'm like Jon in that I'd like to make own picks if possible, but am also cool with a gathering or a time limit. |

So if we want to set a time for everyone to be on line, let's come up with one...Some time today or tomorrow will work well for me. The only thing on my schedule is the kids practice...
Also I was figuring the team would protect 10 players initially, but if we expand to add managers that number would be lower. Or more accurately, the expansion draft part would cause your protections to be less than 10... Last edited by Breeze : 06-07-2013 at 06:54 AM. |

I am good tomorrow morning, we have a 7 on 7 passing tourney / lineman challenge in the afternoon and evening so I couldn't be on then.
Sunday is pretty much open for me ATM. |

In the interests of moving things along, I am ok with whatever time over the next couple days we do. I probably won't be a available for a solid block of time, but I'm ok with the AI picking for me if I'm not around.

I'm also fine with the consensus on the number of keepers (just wanted to float my idea) and figured we wouldn't have a DH, but wanted to ask to be sure.

This weekend is crazy for me but if we want to move it along I'd be fine with the AI picking for me after these next two picks.

Breeze - a question before we get too far down the line. At 10.10 Hawkinsville drafted Jerry Koosman ... is he even carded? That list I found online does not indicate he was part of the base set, maybe added as a fringe player though. Seems doubtful since he was only 16th on the staff in appearances.
Figured I ought to at least ask, in case there was an issue. Or is there no issue regardless, and we're actually allowed to draft players that aren't a part of the roster set?

Koosman is part of the set...I show him with 22 IP...if it is a problem, I can remove him from the list. I don't want the selection to be an advantage because we can see the players and the rest of the group can't... |
