Ping: Sci Fi fans, anyone ever read these books?
I am taking a class next quarter called Introduction to Comparative Literature: Genres and the genre is sci-fi. Seemed like a pretty cool class. The reading list is
HARD-BOILED WONDERLAND & END OF THE WORLD LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS (ACE) WE (TR BROWN ) WOMAN ON EDGE OF TIME Thoughts are appreciated. |

Left Hand of Darkness is a bit out there, read it for a Feminist Lit. class while getting my MA. I'll see if I have any notes or anything. I know it is considered one of the greats of Sci-Fi but it just didn't strike my interest.

Are you asking us to do your homework before the class even starts?

Are you sure those titles weren't made from some internet random title generator?

I love Haruki Murakami but I haven't read Hard-boiled Wonderland & End of the World yet. You'll either find him very boring or very entrancing, I suspect.

As a tangent I once worked in a bookstore where the manager was a huge science fiction fan. I called it Sci-Fi to him once and he flipped out -- "IT IS EITHER SCIENCE FICTION OR S.F. NOT SCI-FI!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!1!!!!!"
Funnier than hell. Dude was a freak.

I remember enjoying Hard Boiled Wonderland, but I was pretty young (17-18ish) when I read it, so don't remember a whole lot. I remember it being pretty off the wall and unique, which is a good thing for me. Haven't read any more of his, but I do know he is a very popular Japanese writer now. Mostly nonfiction for me now and haven't fallen off the wagon in quite some time.
