It's funny, when I saw a certain musical act not yet taken earlier this evening, I was chompin' at the bit put them down (just to knock them out) but now I'm not sure if I'll even pick them.

You've double-read the rules to make sure your question is not addressed? I think it's quite possible that we have seen the last of ML for the evening.

Top 15 greatest rock song, and #1 greatest ballad. I already had the anti-est and classic category filled, except that I needed to update my list for earlier picks.

Good point, forgot about that. Interesting square peg/round hole move, will see what the voters think.

I know, it was too good of a song to pass up. I'm thinking now I should've gone with my first choice.

It's just... not a love song.

Maybe a "love the world song" but, that's even a rough fit.

Actually Oh Yoko! would have been an even better love song there, but might not have the same name recognition amongst the voters.

Heh - the WKRP episode was about some far right group trying to get the station to ban a bunch of songs and they had a little discussion about Imagine. But - I forgot you already had a great Anti-Est song...Fight the Power was great....

I hope our fair voters realize it is not about just the songs.

After all, would you draft Marshall Faulk to play defensive end?

as much as the rest of your draft has been superb Buccaneer, in that spot, Imagine is a reach. It isn't a love song. It is a wonderful song, and it would fit in other places...not there.

I think as we go on we will see more people "squeeze" songs into certain places that may be a stretch

I called an audible at the last minute here. I had already started to write up another pick. I am taking the inaugural Party pick. This is another song that just stands out as a top pick in the category. I think there are a lot of songs out there about sex and drugs, but how many are specifically about the partying?! (OK, a lot). In any event, with the third pick of the fourth round, I will take "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)" by the Beastie Boys.

Classic -
Epic -
Arena -
Trendsetter - 2.3 - "Rapper's Delight", The Sugarhill Gang
Love Song -
One-Hit Wonder -
Party - 4.3 - "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)", Beastie Boys
Crossover - 1.8 - "Walk This Way", Run-D.M.C. feat. Aerosmith
Cover -Anti-Establishment - 3.8 - "Killing in the Name", Rage Against the Machine

If this draft were a woman. lordscarlet is making sweet love, and Bucc can't figure out how to undo the bra strap.

Yeah, I had that Beastie Boys tune pegged as the top party song. There are a few other really solid ones out there, though.

I must confess that I despise this particular song. I dislike the artist and the crackhead she became. I hated the movie, and hate Kevin Costner too, but I'm taking the biggest cover hit of all-time. (Or it was anyway.)

Cover- I Will Always Love You- Twitney Houston 4.4

And also ranks very high on the "i had no idea that was a cover!" scale for the average person. I love the pick to death, but i wonder how the voters will feel.

It's a toughie, especially since, IMHO, Dolly Parton's was so much better, but it fillsone of my girl spots and knocks her off her other strong suit, love songs.

My next pick caused me some concern. this is not the artist's best loved song. When he was recording the album this song was on he was told how crazy it was for him to try it. This song is the soul of that album...Modern Sounds in Country Music.

Classic -
Epic - 2.5 - Another Brick in the Wall — Pink Floyd
Arena -
Trendsetter - 1.6 - Good Vibrations - Beach Boys
Love Song -
One-Hit Wonder -
Party -
Crossover - 4.5-I Can't Stop Loving You--Ray Charles
Cover -
Anti-Establishment -3.6-London Calling--The Clash

there were others iwanted in a couple of categories, but I figured Mr. Chales could not last too much longer. Plus I can't think of many crossover hits into any genre that I personally like better.

Holy in the Holy Fuck is "Imagine" a love song? Unless we have expanded 'love song' to mean loving of society?

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
In the book Lennon in America, written by Geoffrey Giuliano, Lennon commented that the song was "an anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it's sugar-coated, it's accepted."[3]

So, I am just now catching up this thread..

Much fun.. unfortuantely commenting on picks this far after the fact just doesn't make too much sense... but I have to say I think there are like 2-4 guys pulling away from the pack here..
