A look at East Carolina...

The run an I-formation like we do. They've won 4 in a row, but against decidedly lesser teams (rankings of 123, 73, 97 and 96). The only Top 25 team they faced (#24 West Virginia) annihilated them, 52-17.

Offensively, they try to mix it up a lot and are decidedly mediocre. Jose Alexander (1628 yds, 9 TDs, 14 Int) is their starting QB, but he's nursing some shoulder tendonitis (though he is expected to play). The rushing attack is led by WR Roman Newhart (677 yards, 5.1 ypc) and he's also their leading receiver (40 catches, 569 yards). Odd to see a WR lead the team in rushing.

Defensively, they're okay against the pass, but get killed against the run allowing 4.67 yards per carry (ranked 107 in the country). DE Chad Howard leads the team in tackles (44) and TFLs (13).

As far as the scouting report is concerned, the aforementioned Corey Newhart is their best player. Their offensive line has a couple good players - G Thurman Van Pelt and T Donny Dolan. Beyond that, their real strengths (relatively speaking) are in the WR corps and their TEs.

Las Vegas has us listed as a 12 point favorite. Weather forecast expects rain and temps in the mid-50s.

For East Carolina, I'm going to go with the same starting lineup. Hell, they proved themselves against FSU, I'm not going to take people out when they are hot.

Game Plan for East Carolina remains similar. We'll run it down their throats. I'm sure that Justin won't be able to resist calling some pass audibles, though.

Recruiting this week consists of some re-visits of current G and CB targets as well as the inevitable phone calls and requests to visit of in-state academic "talent". Hopefully a great number of these guys will walk-on.

North Carolina State (6-4) (-12) at East Carolina (5-5), TV5

Do we win and get a bowl invitation, or this a surprise last hurrah for our seniors?

54 degrees and raining.

We win the toss and elect to receive in the final scheduled game of our inaugural season. Kickoff is down to our 9, returned by Lamont Cunningham to the 20 - but we're called for holding and will start on our 8.

1st and 10 at the 8. Macri runs a trap on first down and runs through a large hole provided by Kelvin Miller for 14 yards. 1st and 10. A no-nonsense run up the middle by Orlando and he's drilled for a 1 yard loss. 2nd and 11. Run off right guard nets 10 because of a KRB by FB Earnest Sweeney. 3rd and 1. Macri runs offtackle and is dropped for a 2 yard loss. The Orlando Macri show nets 21 yards, 1 first down and a punt situation. 30 yard punt, oob at the East Carolina 41.

East Carolina calls a counter on first and we're surprised - net gain of 10 (I've noticed we get caught offguard by the finesse runs - same thing happened against FSU). 1st and 10 at our 49. A trap off left tackle by Newhart gains nothing - Schmaltz and Sanderson combine for the tackle (who else?). 2nd and 10. Straight run off the left side by Newhart and he gets killed by the Schmaltz-Sanderson combo for a 3 yard loss. 3rd and 13. A trap to Newhart gains 8, but it's not enough. 4th and 5. So far, both offense have relied on their starting RBs for their entire offense. At the 44 yard line, the Pirates decide to go for it, and their first pass is thrown incomplete into double coverage. Turn over on downs...

1st and 10 N.C. State at their 44. Macri gets a KRB by Jack Mackie and gains 10 off the right side. 1st and 10 at the EC 46. Left side run for Macri, and he's dropped for a loss of 3. Geez, we need some consistency here. 2nd and 13. Amaya fades back for his first pass of the game - throwing away from his primary receiver, he finds Gino Linquist on a screen pattern and the pass gains 11 yards. 3rd and 2 at the EC 38. Orlando Macri runs behind Kelvin Miller's block and gains the first down via a 5 yard run. 1st and 10 at the EC 33. Hugh Frederick gets into the act by KRBing Orlando Macri for another 5 yards on the left side. 2nd and 5. Macri again (get this man some Gatorade!), up the middle for 3. 3rd and 2. Another KRB by Hugh Frederick keys a 4 yard Macri carry and another first down. 1st and 10 at the EC 21. Amaya attempts a pass to give Macri a breather, but he's sacked for a 7 yard loss. 2nd and 17. Amaya's 2nd down pass to Donald Clark is underthrown, bringing up 3rd and long. Amaya attempts to thread the needle on third down, but his attempt fails when his errant pass is intercepted in the end zone for a touchback.

EC ball at their 20, 1st and 10. Newhart gets the carry and is dropped for no gain when Herman Sanderson eludes the block to break up the play. Unfortunately, starting DT David Finley is hurt on the play, though it's not considered serious. 2nd and 10. Alexander steps back to pass for EC but HIS pass is intercepted by Herman Sanderson at the 39. N.C. State ball!

1st and 10 NC State at the EC 39. We obviously learned our lesson from the last series and decided to re-exercise the "give Macri the ball" plan. Macri gets the handoff on first down and gains 6 via Ricky Bednarsh's KRB. 2nd and 4. Offtackle for Macri on 2nd down, and he's stopped immediately for a loss of 1. 3rd and 5. Amaya swings it over to FB Earnest Sweeney in the flat and no one's there to stop him! 26 yards later, Sweeney is stopped at the 7 yard line - 1st and 10! A trap is called to Gino Linquist and he gains 3. 2nfd and goal at the 4. Macri goes offtackle and is stopped cold for a loss of 2. Hmmm....3rd and goal at the 6. Amaya looks to pass but can't find anyone, so he's forced to scramble. He finds a hole, but East Carolina's Edmonds stops him just short of the goal line. 4th and goal at the 1 - and the first quarter ends...

[b]N.C. State 0, East Carolina 0 - end of 1st quarter[b]

Actually, South Carolina wouldn't give two $#!+s about this game. They'd be too embroiled in the Clemson/USC matchup. Besides, EZU fans are only around during football season. They magically morph into UNC or Duke fans the rest of the year.

4th and goal at the 1 - do we play it safe?

Yep. Vincent Allen kicks the 18 yard FG, giving us a 3-0 lead. Drive is 6 plays, 38 yards, 3:41 off the clock. We've outgained them 87-15 thus far.

68 yard Vincent Allen kickoff is returned 33 yards to the East Carolina 30. FB Pete Dodge comes up with the tackle on special teams. It seems there's a scrum on the field and Jorge Montgomery has the ball! He's stopped at the East Carolina 22 - confusion ensues but the replay clearly shows that Whitlock of East Carolina fumbled the ball on the return!

1st and 10 at the 22. Amaya takes charge and drills a pass to an open Donald Clark for 13 yards. 1st and goal at the 9. Going for the jugular...Macri runs a trap and nets 2. 2nd and goal at the 7. Macri runs behind a great block by T Hugh Frederick (go figure) and runs untouched into the end zone! Touchdown NC State!

3 plays, 22 yards, 1:34 off the clock

N.C. State 10, East Carolina 0 - 13:08 left in the half.

Vincent Allen kicks off for N.C. State and it travels 58 yards, returned for 23. East Carolina ball at their 30.

1st and 10. Alexanders takes it himself and gains 5 on the keeper. 2nd and 5. Newhart carry, and he gains 1 off the left guard - O.J. Brooks and Marcus Perez combine for the stop. 3rd and 4. Alexander completes a pass to Whitlock for the first down and a gain of 9. 1st and 10 at the 45. Pritchett runs a counter, gains 2, is stopped by Sanderson, fumbles, but's it recovered by EC. 2nd and 8. Alexander pass to Newhart is complete for 12, and EC is now in our territory. 1st and 10 at the Wolfpack 41. Stuart runs off tackle and is nailed by David Finley (oh good, he's back!) and Marcus Perez for a 3 yard loss. 2nd and 13. Newhart runs up the middle and is blindsided by O.J. Brooks, causing him to lose the ball (must be slippery due to the rain). The fumble is recovered by Henry Westbrook! N.C. State ball at our own 44!

1st and 10 at our 44. Amaya tries to light it up, but instead is lit up himself. 7 yard loss on the sack (Kelvin Miller gives up his 2nd sack of the day). 2nd and 17. Amaya tosses imcomplete to Kenneth Wertz. 3rd and 17. Amaya throws away from double coverage and feeds it short to Donald Clark. Clark gains 10 on his own, but he's stopped 2 yards short of the first down marker. 4th and 2 at the EC 48...I assume we punt here. Nope - Raven Hawk goes nuts and calls a sweep (of all things) to Macri. Of course, Orlando comes through and gains 10 behind Cedric Wayne's block. 1st and 10 at the 38. Amaya's pass to Clark is hurried, so it falls incomplete. 2nd and 10. Linquist goes off right guard, but the Pirates aren't fooled at all - no gain. 3rd and 10. Amaya to Clark...incomplete. 4th and 10 at the 38. Well...if you can't hand off to Macri to go for it on 4th, you pass it to him. Macri catches it 4 yard from the line of scrimmage and does the rest himself for a 12 yard gain and a first down. 1st and 10 at the 26. Macri goes around the right end on first down and nets 3 (Marci now has 70 yards on 17 carries). 2nd and 7. Linquist gains 4 on second down, bringing up 3rd and 3. Amaya throws away from double coverage and spots Earnest Sweeney open at the 8 - complete and another first down. 1st and goal at the 8. Macri gets the ball and is forced out of bounds, but not before he gets it down to the 2 yard line. 2nd and goal. Macri - left guard - touchdown! Another KRB by Frederick!

13 plays, 56 yards, 4:56 off the clock

N.C. State 17, East Carolina 0 - 4:19 left in the half

Another 3 and out by East Carolina, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Pirates, a poor punt and a short drive equals another 3 points for the Wolfpack.

N.C. State 20, East Carolina 0 - Halftime

First Downs: NC State 13, East Carolina 4
Rushing: NC State 87, East Carolina 37
Passing: NC State 91, East Carolina 20

3rd quarter

East Carolina comes out spirited and takes advantages of a couple nice pass plays to get down to our 27 yard line. Their 44 yard FG attempt succeeds and that cuts our lead to 17 with 9:20 left in the 3rd.

Our drive is nice, but finally gets bogged down at their 38 due to repeated penalties on our part. We turn the ball over on downs with 5 minutes left in the 3rd.

3 and out for East Carolina. An ok punt gives us the ball on our 43 with 3:14 left in the quarter.

The quarter ends with us driving down the field, first and goal at the East Carolina 5. Orlando Macri has 136 yards on 27 carries through 3.

N.C. State 20, East Carolina 3, end of the 3rd quarter

Through 3, we've outgained East Carolina 296 to 98.

One play into the quarter, Gino Linquist takes it in from 5 yards out. 7 plays, 62 yards, 3:21 off the clock.

N.C. State 27, East Carolina 3, 14:53 left

EC moves the ball on Alexander's passing to midfield, but the drive breaks down from there, ending with OLB Marcus Perez's first sack of the game. N.C. State ball at our own 21, 11:56 left in the game.

Another long drive on our part, culminating in another 5 yard TD run by Gino Linquist. 13 plays, 75 yards, 6 minutes off the clock. Can we bring in the 2nd unit now?

N.C. State 34, East Carolina 3, 5:56 left

EC gets a first down, but then a big holding penalty puts them on their heels for the next series of downs. Ultimately, it seals their fate and they're forced to punt.

N.C. State ball at their own 22 with 2:37 left.

Part-timer Billy Joe Ramirez gets the carry on first down , gaining 6. 2nd and 4 at the 28, 1:53 left. Linquist (38 yards on 9 carries) gets the handoff on second down and nets 1. 3rd and 3. Linquist gains 2 (c'mon, give it to Ramirez!) on 3rd down - 4th and 1. We punt, and the Pirates have the ball at their 38 with 25 seconds left.

9 yard run by Pritchett, tackled by Ralph Spaulding. Game over!

N.C. State 34, East Carolina 3 - FINAL

First Downs: NC State 26, EC 8
Rushing: NC State 211, EC 53
Passing: NC State 174, EC 96

Another dominating performance.

Hey uh...I think we're 4th in the ACC. We're tied with Clemson but beat them clinching 4th. If that's the case, we have a date in the Outback Bowl against the #3 Pac-10 team (either USC or more likely an 8-3 Washington Huskies).

Solid showing in our last game of the regular season. I'd like to get a piece of Leinart in the Outback Bowl.

Ok, this is freakin' amazing when I tell them to run his way only 9% of the time. He must have been pulling all the way across the field to pick up KRB's on the right side.

Good job everybody!

This universe churns out more parallels to the real one. Three of four championship contenders match correctly, along with the ACC coming down to Miami and VaTech, even though the records aside from Oklahoma are incorrect.

RB Carlton Leon will attend NC State (no scholarship).
WR Chris Zimmer will attend NC State (no scholarship).
C Gary Turnbull will attend NC State (no scholarship).
G Paul Anderson is headed to Alabama.
G Fred Morton is headed to Tennessee.
K Dan Malone will attend NC State (no scholarship).
CB Marshall Spencer has accepted our scholarship offer.
S Danny Reavis will attend NC State (no scholarship).

All but Marshall Spencer were added for their good grades and attitude.

For whatever reason, Clemson got picked for our Outback Bowl slot and will face Washington. What gives?! We're headed to the Alamo Bowl against Southern Mississippi (7-4).

The reason is that the Outback Bowl gets fourth choice of the ACC teams. You may have beaten Clemson, but the selection committee determined that the Tigers would draw better than your team.

I didn't realize that was simulated in the game. I thought TCY would have a lot less leeway and be a little more strict when assigning bowls.

Yeah, I would think so, too. I had teams passed over by teams I've beaten in conference play. It's pretty frustrated when you think you are heading to a more prestigous bowl and end up in a much lower bowl.

Well, then. It looks like we'll just have to put a world class whooping on Southern Miss.

How is it possible that they could think that Amaya and Clark could be outdrawn?

Because of the extra week off, ILB Neal Hollins has been upgraded to probable and OLB Thurman Arnswaldt is now questionable.

New files are uploaded.

Hmmm...no gameplans in thus far. Do you want me to move ahead with this game today, or should I wait for them?

Damn...I knew that buying FM2005 would come back to haunt me. If you tell me what kind of offense they run I would be able to whip up a gameplan this morning. That would be no problem.

They run a single back offense and pass the ball about 55% of the time for about 70% of their yardage. No single WR threat as they spread the ball around. The QB had 25 TDs and 9 Ints. His strength is avoiding interceptions and his weakness is medium passing (our scout has him rated as a 44/100).

Well now work thinks it can take up my valuable sports sim time.

I think the Run Expectation numbers are correct. If not...just go with what the scout suggests.

Game Plan for Southern Miss. It doesn't look like they can stop the run worth a damn. I upped our running percentages a little, decreased our "long ball" percentages a little and gave Frederick a couple more carries going his way. I think he earned it in that last game.

We're gonna miss ya, guys! Time for one last "HURRAH!"

Weather: 69 degrees and Sunny in San Antonio, Texas

S. Miss wins the toss and elects to receive. 55 yard kickoff is returned 31 yards by Diaz to the S. Miss 41.

1st and 10. Roberson runs a trap and is stopped after a yard by David Finley and Neal Hollins. 2nd and 9. Offtackle by Roberson nets a yard - tackled by Spaulding and Flynn. Unnecessary roughness against S. Miss brings up a 3rd and 23. Freshman Myron Branch forces a hurried incompletion. 4th and 23! 35 yard punt, 10 yard return by Kenneth Wertz - ball at the Wolfpack 47.

1st and 10 for the Wolfpack. Out struts Justin Amaya, the boy wonder...looking to solidify his career as a gamer with one last great performance. Defensive holding on S. Miss. 1st and 10 at the S. Miss 43. Amaya throws his first pass and it's complete to Trent Brodie for 8. 2nd and 2. Macri gets a carry and is stopped short of the first down after gaining a yard. 3rd and 1. Macri goes off the right guard and is stopped for no gain . 4th and 1 at the 34...we have to go for it...We do. Cedric Wayne gets our first KRB of the game, and it's just enough so that Macri can get 2 yards and the first down. 1st and 10 at the 32. Offensive holding on N.C. State. 1st and 19. Macri goes off the right guard for ZERO (uh oh...we were supposed to be able to run on these guys). 2nd and 19. Amaya tosses on in the flat to Gino Linquist and he picks up 5. 3rd and 14. Amaya throws to Donald Clark who gains 13, but that's a yard short of the marker. 4th and 1 at the S. Miss 23. Allen lines it up and kicks the 40 yard FG.

N.C. State 3, Southern Miss 0, 8:17 left in the first

Drive: 7 plays, 29 yards, 5:06 off the clock

Allen's kickoff goes 51 yards down to the 14, returned 18 yards to the Southern Miss 32.

1st and 10. Temes runs around the right end and is stopped for a yard by CJ Schmaltz and Henry Westbrook. Surprisingly, they're running the ball a lot out of their single back offense. 2nd and 9. Roberson goes up the middle, but he's dropped for a 2 yard loss by OJ Brooks. 3rd and 11. Cassidy fades for a pass and it's complete to Camarillo...he's taken down from behind by David Finley after a 6 yard gain. 4th and 5. 32 yard punt, fair catch by Kenneth Wertz.

1st and 10 for the Wolfpack at our own 31. We try again to establish the running game, but Southern Miss will have none of it - Macri is dropped for a 3 yard loss on first down. 2nd and 13. Hmmm...a trap (finesse play) to Macri and he finds a hole - 12 yard gain - hmm...they may be overpursuing - can we change the gameplan ? 3rd and 1 at the 40. A KRB by Ricky Bednarsh springs Macri for 9 yards around the right end. 1st and 10 at our 49. Oh geez...Macri gets another carry and another KRB (this time by Cedric Wayne who runs over the SMiss secondary) - 16 yard gain. 1st and 10 at the Southern Miss 35. Macri has 37 yards on 8 carries now. Macri again, but this time he's stopped for a 1 yard loss. 2nd and 11. A trap by Macri, but S. Miss is ready for it and Macri goes down after a 3 yard loss. 3rd and 14 at the 39. Screen pass to Donald Clark, but it fools no one and only nets 1. Southern Mississippi's defensive lineman Peachey goes down with a serious injury on the play. 4th and 13 at their 38. Do we risk it? Yes...and Donald Clark DROPS the 4th down pass. Ball turned over on downs.

1st and 10 for SMISS at their 38. Cassidy fades back to pass but he gets NAILED by a blitzing Thurman Arnswaldt for a sack and a loss of 8 yards. 2nd and 18. The defense is completely fired up now as they've allowed a TOTAL of NEGATIVE 1 yards total offense thus far. Cassidy passes on 2nd down and connects to his RB Roberson for a 9 yard gain. 3rd and 9. 3rd and long and Cassidy passes and it's complete again - this time for 19 yards to Copeland . 1st and 10 at our 42. NC State offsides. 1st and 5. Rodgers runs off tackle and gains 3. 2nd and 2. Roberson goes up the middle, gains 3 and notches the first down as the first quarter clock expires.

N.C. STATE 3, Souther Mississippi 0, end of 1st

Total Yards: NC State 60, Southern Miss 33

1st and 10 at our 31 for Southern Miss. Roberson goes around the right end and nets 7. 2nd and 3. Cassidy fades back and is blind-sided by DT David Finley for a sack and a loss of 6. 3rd and 9 at our 30. Cassidy passes awway from double coverage but his receiver drops the ball. 4th and 9. They go for it. Cassidy take a 3-step drop and fires it to Rodgers...but Finley is in his face and the ball is poorly thrown and incomplete. Turned over on downs!

1st and 10 at our 30. Macri benefits from a KRB by Ricky Bednarsh and charges off the right tackle for 10. 1st and 10. Linquist gets a carry and takes advantage of his playing time - gain of 7 (another KRB, this time by Matthews). 2nd and 3. Macri is wheezing on the sidelines, so Linquist gets another carry but he's stopped cold for a 2 yard loss. 3rd and 5. Amaya will try to get the first down via the pass but no one's open. He scrambles but is dropped at the line of scrimmage for no gain. 4th and 5. 34 yard punt, 5 yard return, but a holding penalty against Southern Miss puts them back at their 12.

1st and 10. Cassidy to Camarillo on a medium pass nets them 15. 1st and 10 at the 27. Cassidy to Newhart on the pass, but it's broken up by Henry Westbrook. 2nd and 10. Cassidy again, this time to some guy named Besbeas - complete for 8 yards. 3rd and 2. Roberson goes offtackle and collects the first down on a 4 yard gain. 1st and 10 at their own 39. Rodgers on the ground this time, and he runs around the right end of 2 - he's stopped by OJ Brooks. 2nd and 8. Roberson around the other side on 2nd and long and he picks up 4. They're really mixing up their offense. 3rd and 4. NC STATE offsides - first down, Southern Miss . 1st and 10 at midfield. Roberson around the right end, but he's stopped cold for a 2 yard loss - Brooks and Westbrook cheat and combine for the big tackle. 2nd and 12. Defensive Pass Interference . 1st and 10 for S. Miss at our 42. Roberson around the right end and he gets overwhelmed by Ralph Spaulding and Neal Hollins - loss of 4. 2nd and 14. A pass by Cassidy to Camarillo is well defended by Neal Hollins - incomplete. 3rd and 14. Oooh...a reverse is called. We read it all the way and drop Mr. Fancy Pants Camarillo for a gain of a yard - Bubba Flynn makes the tackle. 4th and 13 at our 45. 36 yard punt, 1 yard return by Kenneth Wertz. For good measure, we show off our knack for stupidity and get called for holding on the return.

1st and 10 for the Wolfpack at our own 5. 6:06 left in the half. A pass from Amaya to Donald Clark is smacked down at the lack of scrimmage. I don't like this - we're better than them but giving them more and more confidence each play. 2nd and 10. A trap by Macri nets 2, bringing up a 3rd and long. Amaya fades back but is hurried and his throw to Orlando Macri is behind him. 4th and 8 at our 7 - ugh. 39 yard punt that rolls out of bounds - not too bad.

1st and 10 S. Miss at our 46. 5:20 left. Roberson goes off the left guard and breaks it for 9 yards. Uh oh. 2nd and 1 at our 37. Rodgers goes off the right guard and nets 5. 1st and 10 at our 32. Offtackle for Rodgers this time and he moves the pile forward for 3. 2nd and 7. Roberson goes right tackle and is stopped after a yard by Bubba Flynn.

By the way...have you ever played TCY with the Songs from the NFL playing in the background - it's AWESOME

Back to the game...3rd and 6 at our 28. Southern Miss gets called for a delay of game, pushing them back 5 yards. 3rd and 11. Dime package is in, awaiting Cassidy's pass...He throws a medium pass and OJ Brooks reads it all the way for the interception! He's tackled immediately at our 14. WAhoo!

1st and 10 at our 14. Amaya to Macri on the screen...4 yard gain. 2nd and 6. Macri gets the carry around the left end - big block by Bednarsh and he finds a seam...13 yard gain. 1st and 10 at the 31. Macri up the middle nets 3 - 61 yards on 14 carries for OH-LANDO so far. 2nd and 7. Macri again (huff, puff) and he gains 10 - KRB by Matthews. 1st and 10 at the 44, 1:14 left. Macri refuses to be taken out of the game and he gets the ball again. Cedric Wayne provides the block and Macri is FINALLY taken down after a 23 yard gain! 1st and 10 at the SMISS 33 - 56 secs left. Macri AGAIN - off the right guard and and behind Hugh Frederick's blocking - he rumbles forward for 8. 2nd and 2 at their 25 - we call time out. Macri has just broken 100 yards (102 yards on 17 carries). Macri (who else?) goes around the left end behind another KRB by Frederick - gain of 9. 1st and 10 at the 16. Macri off the left guard - he gains 7 and both his legs fall off. I call one of the ball boys over to retrieve them. 2nd and 3 at the SMISS 9 with 29 seconds left. We have no times outs left. For some reason, we decide not to throw in the end zone and elect to go for the FG. Allen kicks it through the uprights and we take a 6-0 lead with 21 secs left in the half.

NC STATE 6, Southern Mississippi 0, 21 secs left in the half.

70 yard kickoff by Allen returned 24 yards by Camarillo. S MISS begins at their own 19 - 14 seconds left.

Cassidy drops to one knee and the first half is over.

North Carolina State 6, Southern Mississppi 0, Halftime

Total Yards: NC State 154, S. Miss 78

Note: 118 of those 154 yards are Orlando Macri's rushing.

The second half begins...

48 yard kick (very short) is collected by Ralph Spaulding at his 17...he zigs...he zags... and finally stopped at the Southern Miss 43! Nice play, Ralph!

1st and 10 for the Wolfpack. Illegal Shift on NC State. 1st and 15. Amaya throws a short pass to all-everything Orlando Macri and he nets 15 yards down to the Southern Miss 33. 1st and 10. Macri around the left end...KRB by Frederick...gain of 5. 2nd and 5. Trap by Macri gains 3, bringing up 3rd and short. KRB by Kelvin Miller springs Macri for 11 yards around the right end. 137 yards on 22 carries for OH-LANDO. 1st and 10 at the 14. Amaya attempts the pass, but he's nailed - a sack and a 5 yard loss. 2nd and 15. Pass Intereference on Southern Miss - ha! 1st and 10 at the 14. Macri gets the handoff and drags a defender forward for 4 yards. 2nd and 6. KRB by the FB Sweeney and a big hole allows Macri to go 10 yards for the TD!

We try the 2-point conversion, but it fails. Hence, the odd score:

N.C. State 12, Southern Mississippi 0, 10:49 left in the 3rd.
