Poli - I don't know if it will be any easy even if we both wait until morning and try it. I was lucky I was able to run away, otherwise I wouldn't have stood a chance. We can try it if you want though (unless you intend on trying tonight - if so, God speed!)

I can't without the potion. I really really want to.

I really really want to do it solo as well. I know with the lute this is going to be so cake.

There's still time for you. Probably not for me. I've made my decision.

Since I am a puny artificer and will likely eat some dirt, I'd like to say that this game has been a lot of fun. Many thanks to Abe and to all of you.

Ladies and gentlemen, tonight, for your entertainment, we will host a death match between chesapeake and....no, that would be telling too soon.

I will begin processing the evening actions. Once that is done, after a few moments, I will begin posting the battle in its entirety. Then the evening will close and one player WILL die.

The Pixies announce:

Oh noes! We have had another death. Chief Rum has fallen to the Wheel Trap! This clever invention roles giant two ton wheels down on the player with just enough magic in them to keep them from being guarded against.

You may glad to note that, although one of your comrades has died, the powers that be have decided to seal off the Wheel Trap room permanently, and no one can get to it or from it.

Barring a Passwall scroll or Axe of Stonecutting or something....

Let's all wish Chief Rum a lovely game!

chesapeake steps inside the arena. Instantly you are all teleported to various seats around the arena to watch the illegal deathmatch.

All of you, but The Jackal. The Jackal is summoned to the other side of the arena, facing chesapeake.

"Welcome to tonight's festivities!" a voice booms.

"Tonight, for your very special pleasure, two of your number will fight, and while one will win and gain fortune and fame, the other will die a harrowing death."

Normally, in combat, a player always goes first against monsters, always attacking first in every round.

Before battle begins, each player begins at long range. While at long range, each combatant can snipe at the other with spells, long distance weapons, and such. Usually, one or the other will charge and bring the combat into close quarters, but sometimes two fighters will sling spells and items from range for some time.

Tonight, with one player vs one player, I will roll at the beginning of each round to see who will resolve their action first.

"In order for the fight to be fair, each player is restored to their max hp and all spells are restored as well. Also, certain items which would end the combat immediately are turned off for this confrontation, such as Bead of Force or Scroll of Obliteration."

Rounds One:

I roll, and the player to go first is...The Jackal.

Not being stupid, he understands that chesapeake has 7 mirror images he will have to break through before he can start dealing damage to chesapeake. However, once he does that, chesapeake might fall in short order.

The Jackal uses his first round to cast Cause Light Wounds, in order to kill one image.

6 left

chesapeake pulls a Wand of Paralyzation and fires at The Jackal.

However, The Jackal is immune because of an item he wears!!!

Round Two:

chesapeake wins initiative. He pulls out the Wand of Acid Arrow and nails The Jackal for 20 damage this round!

The Jackal casts Cure Moderate Wounds and heals the damage

Round Three:

chesapeake rolls and wins initiative. He pulls pulls out the Wand of Lightning. He zarks The Jackal for 21 damage. Acid Arrow resolves again and The Jackal is reeling from 41 damage.

The Jackal casts Cure Serious Wounds and now has only taken 11.

Round Four:

The Jackal wins initiative. He launches an attack with "Ram" and kills a second image.

5 images remain.

chesapeake draws a Wand of Magic Missile and five darts of energy lance from it to The Jackal, dealing 19 damage.

The Jackal has taken 30 so far.

Round Five:

The Jackal wins initiative and drinks aPotion of healing. He has now taken 5 damage.

chesapeake has used all of his wands once for free, but he has a few more surprises.

He uses a charge on the Wand of Acid Arrow to once again hit The Jackal for 20 this turn.

The Jackal has taken 25

Round Six:

The Jackal also has tricks up his sleeve. He wins initiative and drinks a Potion of Invisibility. He can go hide, heal with potions and herbs, then come back and ambush chesa for free.

chesapeake has a counter. He casts True Sight which counters all illusions, including invisibility. The Jackal is revleaed and takes 20 more damage from the Acid Arrow. He has now taken 45 damage

Round Seven:

The Jackal needs to win this initiative in order to stay alive or chesapeake can likely finish him off this round. He has won a lot already, can he win this one too?

The Jackal rolls a d20 and gets...a 3. Ouch.

.
.

.
.
.
.
.

.

.

.
.

chesapeake rolls and gets a 10

chesapeake grabs the Wand of Magic Missile and uses a charge to pump The Jackal with hot magical arrows of pain.

The first one deals 3 damage
The second one deals 4
The third one deals 2
The fourth one deals 3
The fifth one deals 3

The Jackal falls lifeless to the ground.

The rulers of the dungeon have arrived.

They are too late to do anything about The Jackal, but they have banned any future death matches. Anybody further who steps into the Arena room will no longer be able to use it for death matches.
