FOOL 2045 Offseason

A lot of Brown and Gold in the FOOL Champion's Row of late!

Before I get started with the next offseason, I have an opening for a new manager but don't have anyone on the waiting list for FOOL (ootp9). if anyone here knows someone that would be interested please send me a PM. Otherwise I'll post it up on the forums to find a new owner. (If you know multiple people, let me know all of them as it would be nice to try to stock up the waiting list again a little bit. Tougher to find people interested in OOTP9 leagues)

Now on to the offseason awards!

I guess when you go 25-3 as a rookie, that is too much for the AI to pass over in handing out the Benny Myers award. Holmes is the first rookie pitcher since Jeremy Aitken (Tokyo) to win the Benny Myers Award in 2038. He is the first Republic League pitcher to do so in 29 seasons since Ed Lacenaire of Chico in 2015!

Holmes is also the first player to win both the Benny Myers and Gabriel Prado award in the same year since former Baltimore Charm pitcher Jaime Sanchez in 2032. The last Republic League pitcher to accomplish that feat was Billy Smith of the Hartford Harpooners 64 seasons ago!!

Not only all that, he won the clinching game in the FOOL Classic (with a shutout) and he was the winning pitcher in the All Star Game.

I mean, WTH? Guy like that musta signed away his soul to Satan, right?

The best performance since Jaime Sanchez! Oh wait... he kind of fizzled out..

He actually got some talk after that draft day. Someone (ekcut I think) was saying "I knew Chief would draft that guy, he's exactly the type Chief drafts." He said muns drafted that type, too, but both muns and ekcut were behind me in that year's draft.

The 2029 Draft in Review

The Studs:

Álex Quiñones : Drafted by the Apex Assassins with the 3rd pick in the 1st round - In perhaps one of the most stacked drafts in FOOL history, Quinones has spent his entire career in Apex, North Carolina. It has meant that he has not received as much name recognition as others in this draft, but over his career he has outperformed fellow 2029 Draftees such as Frank Dawson, Tetsuyuki Sanu, Julio Flores and Jaime Sanchez.

Honors and Awards
AwardYearsTimes Won
Hideaki Tanaka Award20401
All-Star2032, 2033, 2035, 2036, 2037, 2038, 2039, 2040, 2041, 2042, 2043, 204412

Frank Dawson : Drafted by the Chico Rebels with the 6th pick in the 1st round

Tetsuyuki Sanu : Drafted by the Colorado Rancheros with the 11th pick in the 1st round

Júlio Flores : Drafted by the Hartford Harpooners with the 2nd pick in the 1st round

Jaime Sánchez : Drafted by the Baltimore Charm with the 1st pick in the 1st round

Eduardo Vélez : Drafted by the Napa Valley Winemakers with the 12th pick in the 1st round

José Moreno : Drafted by the Boston Settlers with the 4th pick in the 1st round

The Steals:

Alfonso Torres : Drafted by the Baltimore Charm with the 1st pick in the 2nd round - Although Sanu could likely be classified as the biggest steal of the draft, with the 11th pick in the 1st round, Torres has been the best performer beyond the first round. A championship team usually requires a strong bullpen to keep the game tight late in the game. Torres is a 4 time all star and has been one of the best relievers in the league for 12 seasons.

Honors and Awards
AwardYearsTimes Won
All-Star2038, 2039, 2040, 20424

Alonso Cardenas : Drafted by the Apex Assassins with the 3rd pick in the 2nd round

Lorenzo Rico : Drafted by the New York Heroes with the 5th pick in the 3rd round

Pablo Zavala : Drafted by the Chico Rebels with the 6th pick in the 2nd round

Roberto López : Drafted by the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines with the 7th pick in the 2nd round

Jeremy Chasse : Drafted by the Baltimore Charm with the 1st pick in the 3rd round

Cristo Gonzáles : Drafted by the Hartford Harpooners with the 2nd pick in the 2nd round

Ricardo Campos : Drafted by the Hartford Harpooners with the 2nd pick in the 3rd round

The Busts:

Callum MacIan : Drafted by the New York Heroes with the 5th pick in the 1st round - The 2029 draft was so stocked, that there was actually no true bust in this draft. In such a talented draft class however, it can be considered a bust when you don't overachieve. Seven players drafted after MacIan outproduced him over the length of their careers. MacIan's biggest problem was that he never hit well for average. He put up solid enough power numbers to be named to the all star team 3 times, but was barely at league average for his position most of the time.

The best of the Rest:

P
Weston Martin - Drafted by the Edmonton Edge with the 10th pick in the 1st round
P Norio Takeuchi - Drafted by the Tokyo Cyclones with the 8th pick in the 1st round
C Christophe LaRocque - Drafted by the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines with the 7th pick in the 1st round

I have a way now to try to remove players from Hall of Fame consideration for 5 seasons after they finish playing that I'm going to start doing. I wanted to announce it in case anyone wondered why player X who just retired is not getting in.

Saturday, November 5th, 2044: O'Bryan Among Greats in FOOL HOF
A huge crowd watched Paul O'Bryan become the newest member of the Front Office Offseason League Hall of Fame today.

"I'm a big believer in whatever you want, if you want something out of this game, you've got to put the work in it. You've got to work hard," said the outstanding third baseman, whose new plaque described him as "an artisan with a bat whose daily pursuit of excellence produced a .292 lifetime batting average, 2484 hits and 323 home runs."

After the induction ceremony O'Bryan was asked what was the most thrilling moment in his career. He responded quickly, "No doubt about it, your first hit in the big leagues. That's tops. It means you're on your way. When you get the first hit, then you can get the rest."

For some reason I can't connect to the FTP, so I won't be able to export. However, I would like to select Luis Blanco with my first overall pick. I'd rather be winning, but it's nice to get these pitching prospects

This is probably too late, but did you manually download the game when the server issues happened earlier this week?

Also, you can just Export it to a file (instead of to FTP) and email it to Alan at dunhere AT yahoo DOT com (as Alan puts it, just replace with an "@" and a ".")

Monday, November 28th, 2044: FOOL News: Free Agents File
Today marks the start of the FOOL free agency period.

Players who were unable or unwilling to negotiate contract extensions with their current teams will be filing their papers to become free agents today. It's a period of rejuvenation for some teams, moderation for others. The players on the market are hoping to find greener pastures and certainly some will hit paydirt.

Meanwhile, the media and fans will stoke the rumor mill together, generating energy that will carry them forward to Opening Day. In cities across The United States, fans will hope for that key signing, the one that could propel their club to a championship.

Among the more notable free agents hitting the market today are:

1. Eduardo Medina, 38 year-old right fielder
2. Jorge Fonseca, 32 year-old starting pitcher
3. Marcos Rodríguez, 32 year-old starting pitcher
4. Rick Klassen, 33 year-old starting pitcher
5. Hugh Thompson, 34 year-old right fielder
6. Júlio Flores, 33 year-old starting pitcher
7. Tex Jones, 37 year-old catcher
8. Sun Zhai, 37 year-old right fielder
9. Marcos Rodríguez, 33 year-old starting pitcher
10. Richard Wichers, 33 year-old starting pitcher

Huh, that draft worked out well that nobody wanted catchers and I placed where I did so I ended up going out of order and actually getting the higher rated guy second. Cool.

Actually had no export for you on the server. Double check tonight when you export that it goes through to make sure you don't have any issues.

The new file is up. Spring Training runs tomorrow morning.

Another request, if you know anyone who would be interested in joining FOOL, please send me a PM. I'm going to post up the opening this weekend if I don't have anyone before then.
