OOTP13 - Baltimore Orioles

I haven't played OOTP in quite awhile. I set it so that I can't be fired since this is going to be a learning experience. I also set the ratings of the players to not be shown to see how this works. I do keep the Overall/Potential star ratings.

Top 100 Prospects
We have two players on the Top 100 Prospects list. #10) SS Manny Machado, age 19 (A). And #90) 3B Jonathan Schoop, age 20 (A)

My owner tells me that he expects a .500 season.

March 30, 2012

I try to negotiate a deal with Roy Oswalt. He wanted $4.7 mil for 1 year. I the highest I would go was $3.5 mil so the negotiations fell through.

I offer MR Hong-Chih Kuo a contract for 1 year, $760,000.

I offer 1B Jeff Larish a contract for 1 year, $668,000.

I just noticed that my roster didn't include injured players.
2B Brian Roberts, out for 57 more days for a Concussion. Cur: 4 Stars / Pot: 4 Stars
SP Zach Britton, out for 12 more days for Shoulder inflammation. 1.5 / 2.5
SP Tsuyoshi Wada, out for 12 more days for a Hyperextended elbow. 2 / 2
C Tayklor Teagarden, out for 12 more days for Torn back muscle. 1.5 / 2.5

April 6, 2012
7-6 Win vs. Minnesota Twins.
Winning Pitcher: MR Troy Patton. 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K, 0 ER
Save: MR Matt Lindstrom, 0.1 IP

April 7, 2012
3-4 Lose vs. Minnesota Twins
Losing Pitcher: MR Matt Lindstrom

Hong-Chih Kou and Jeff Larish both accept their contract offers.

April 8, 2012
9-8 Win vs. Minnesota Twins
Winning Pitcher: Hong-Chih Kuo

What does H and BS stand for next to the pitcher's name on the box score?

Hold and Blown Save.
Hold means that they hold a lead or save situation, one or the other.

I just checked and I only looked at the Top 100 Prospects for Batters. I missed the Pitchers list. Bundy is there at #13.

Just looking through some of the other reports.

I have the 19th highest payroll at $90.715 million. I'm 16th in Media Revenue with $43 million. My current Budget is 20th in the league at $115.1 million.

I don't have any players on the top 25 highest paid players.

The League Average salary is ~$2.5 million. My average salary is just under $2 million.

My highest paid player is RF Nick Markakis (2.5 / 2.5) at $12 million. And he's signed up for a few more years at $15 million. Back in 2009, he was rated 4/ 4. In 2010, he was 3.5 / 4.5. His scouting reports have been average since. (So that seems like money well spent....or maybe my scout sucks.)

So I check my scout.

Scout Majors: Good
Scout Minors: Good
International: Excellent
Amateurs: Outstanding
Projection: Neutral

I traded RF Nick Markakis. The fans fucking hate me now! I traded him for 1B Mark Trumbo from the LA Angels. The scout really likes Trumbo, saying that he has game-changing power. This also frees up a LOT of money for my penny-pincher owner. I can actually sign some extensions now.

I decide to just turn ratings on, 1-5. Mainly because I don't want to put in the time it would take to play this game without any ratings. I need to be able to know how good a player is scouted at a glance in an organization with 200+ players.

Sweep!

Record: 14-11, 1st (3 way tie) in AL East

1 month in, let's look at some stats.

2B Matt Antonelli isn't making much of his shot. 26 at bats, 0 hits and 5 walks. I think he needs to go back to AAA for a while.

CF Jai Miller is hitting .357 on 56 AB. SS JJ Hardy is hitting .326 on 89 AB. 1B Mark Jumbo is 3rd on the list, hitting .317 on 41 AB with 4 HR and 8 RBI. The player I traded, Nick Markakis, has only managed a .250 average on 60 AB for LAA.

Jason Hammel and Tommy Hunter are both 3-1. SP Brain Matusz is still without a record, having pitched 29 innings but not having a win or lose attributed to him. He also leads the Orioles in strikeouts with 24 and has an ERA of 5.90.

MR Hong-Chih Kuo leads in K/9, however, at 15.10 (10.2 IP, 18 K).

8-3 Win at Seattle Mariners
Winning Pitcher: Zach Britton - 7.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 K, 99 PI

Trade with Los Angeles Angels: I sent MR prospect Aris Angeles and 3B Zealous Wheeler to LA for SP prospect Nick Moronde.

Trade with Philadelphia Phillies: I send 1B Mark Trumbo, SP Jason Berken and MR Ryan Edell to the Phillies for SS Freddy Galvis (I'll try him out right away, but he'll ride the bench. He's 22 and has been starting for PHI batting .285, but right now the SS position is not my problem. My starting SS is batting .289 and is a good fielder, except he's playing out of position. I'm going to have to do some juggling.)

Trumbo started out great for me, but after the first month he stunk up the place falling to under .220 batting average. The other two players were 28 year old with 1 star potentials. Galivs is a 4 1/2 star prospect. I've been trying to dump dead weight and prospects that aren't panning out. Hopefully I hit gold with one of the new guys.

With the roster expanded to 40 players, I brought up draft pick SP Steve Cholmondeley. He rose quickly up to AAA and had been there awhile. He pitched that last game against the Yanks. 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 2 K

Notable Stats for the month of August
Our best hitter was LF Endy Chavez, who hit for .344 for the month (90 AB). Our worst was C Ronny Paulino, hitting only .168 on 101 AB. If I had another catcher to try out, i would. Matt Wieters won't be back until late October, and we won't be playing anymore by then. Might as well bring up the two other catchers and see what they can do.

As far as OBP, 1B Joe Mahoney gets the nod there with a .407 OBP. Chavez only got walked 3 times (struck out 7), while Mahoney got walked 17 times (struck out 15). Our strike out king was out DH (1B) Wilson Betemit with 40 (AVG of .221, OBP of .322. He was walked 16 times as well). Most HRs, Joe Mahoney with 9. Most RBI, Joe Mahoney with 18. Most runs, Joe Mahoney with 22. Most hits, not Joe Mahoney. That would be 2B Robert Andino with 34 (Mahoney had 33).

Slugging goes to 3B Mark Reynolds with .659, who also led in wOBA with .444. Wins over replacement player, and I have no idea how this is calculated, goes to 2B Robert Andino with 3.2. Mahoney second with 2.6 and Reynolds and Hardy tied for third with 2.3.

Jason Hammel had the best pitching record for the month at 3-1. MR Hong-Chih Kuo had the best ERA for the month, giving up 5 ER in 18.0 IP. Best starter was Zach Britton with 12 ER in 36.0 IP. Best batting average given up was MR Luis Ayala with .149 in 13.1 IP. Best HR/9 was Kuo with 0.5, but Ayala had the best H/9 with 4.7. BB/9, Tommy Hunter with 0.6, Best K/9 MR Kevin Gregg with 15.1

Best WAR, SP Zach Britton with 3.6, Jake Arrieta was second with 2.5 and SP Wei-Yin Chen was third with 2.4.

SP Jake Arrieta, Zach Britton and Jason Hammel all had 3 quality starts in August. Pedro Strop had 6 saves

Some stats for the season

1B Joe Mahoney started out in AA at the beginning of the season. Disappointing performances from a few players, and injuries to others, sped up his rise to the majors. He ended up as clearly my best batter.

327 AB, 103 H, 60 R, 12 2B, 1 3B, 25 HR, 66 RBI, 59 BB, 55 K
.315 AVG, .419 OBP, .587 SLG, 1.007 OPS

CF Adam Jones was having a great year until an injury ended it. 382 AB, .317 AVG, .363 OBP, .513 SLG, .876 OPS

1B Joe Mahoney wins the AL Rookie of the Year award.

Arbitration decisions
2B Robert Andino gets $2,310,000
CL Jim Johnson gets $1,100,000
3B Mark Reyonds gets $10,625,000
SP Brian Matusz gets $1,793,500
C Matt Wieters gets $7,500,000

Arbiter ruled in favor of the players in the last 3, in my favor in the first two.

I hope Reynolds stays healthy and is worth that $10mil+. He only played 90 games last year.

I trade 2B Matt Antonelli and SP Dontrelle Willis to the Cleveland Indians for 27 year old LF Matt LaPorta and 20 year old prospect SP Dillon Howard. Antonelli still has the potential to be a superstar, but I am very weak in the outfield and deep at 2B. Don't expect much from Howard, but I figure why not ditch an older minor leaguer for a young prospect that might pan out.

I trade CL/MR Jim Johnson to the Philadelphia Phillies for 23 year old MR Phillippe Aumont. I'm pretty deep at MR, so I dump one for a young MR that will be ready to step up in a few years when some of my other MRs become old or leave.

I decide to spend some money. I had a lot of room in the budget and went and got SP Edwin Jackson. A 4-year, $18.1mil a year deal. I hope he ends up being worth it. His stats are way better than any of my starters. The attributes for Brian Matusz are better....we'll see how it shapes up. Jackson and Matusz could turn out to be a great 1-2. If they stay healthy...

A few notes.

I decide to try Pedro Strop out as a MR and five Phillippe Aumont a shot at closer.

Robert Andino starts at SS. but Hardy and Galvis will get plenty of games.

The only starter I'm worried about is Zach Britton. Jackson and Matusz should play really well and Chen and Arrietta are both solid (or at least were last season).

Rundown of Minor leaguers (the ones with higher than 2 star potential)

Norfolk Tides (AAA)

SP Dylan Bundy (Cur: 0.5, Pot: 5) - He's 20 years old and I'll probably leave him here for a year or two at least. I don't want to push him too far too fast. Stuff, Movement and Control are 3/4, Cutter and Curveball are 3/4, Fastball 4/4, Changeup 3/3.

2B Jonathon Schoop (1, 3.5) - 21 years old. Can play shortstop too, and 3B (but not too well there). Will be a few years until he can replace Andino or Roberts.

SS Freddy Galvis (1.5, 3.5) - 23 years old. Thinks he should be playing in the majors, but he's not as good as either JJ Hardy or Ryan Flahery. I just moved Flaherty up and sent Galvis down. He probably won't be happy and I may have to trade him.

Bowie Bay Sox (AA)

2B Michael Mooney (1, 5) - 24 years old. Power hitter (4/5 in HR Power and Gap Power) with 3/4 Avoid Ks, but 2/2 Eye. He's got some good speed too.

SS Manny Machado (1, 4) - 20 years old. His potential has fallen off a bit. I'll keep him in AA and see if he improves.

LF Bobby Stevens (1, 4) - 26 years old. Starting to get up there in age. Has the potential to be a good overall hitter with some power. His best position is actually 2B (3), but currently at LF (2).

Delmarva Shorebirds (A)

MR Christopher Hanna (0.5, 5) - 21 years old. Very high potentials but only 2 pitches. Stamina of 3 so he could be a starter at some point.

3B Nicky Delmonico (1, 4) - 20 years old. Potential to be a good, all around hitter. Can play 1B or 3B.

Frederick Keys (A)

MR Zachary Fowler (0.5, 2.5) - 24 years old. 3/4 Stuff, 3/4 Movement, 2/4 Control 2 pitches, 2 Stam.

CL Jahangir Hussain (0.5, 4) - 21 years old. 5/5 Stuff, 4/4 Move, 2/2 Control. 5/5 Fastball, 3/4 Slider. Low Control and no potential to get better has me worried.

1B Pepe Guerra (1, 2.5) - 22 years old. Potential to be good, all around hitter. Better contact than power.

SS Mario Peret (1, 4.5) - 22 years old. Has potential to be a great contact hitter, have great Eye and Avoid Ks. Total lack of power, though. He could be a fantastic lead off hitter....I think (like i know what the hell I'm talking about....)

Aberdeen Ironbirds (Short Season A)

SP Manuel Trujillo (0.5, 4.5) - 22 years old. High potentials but only a Stam of 3 means he won't be pitching many 7-9 inning games (I don't think....)

Sarasota Orioles (Rookie League)

C Gabriel Lino (1, 5) - 19 years old. Potential of 4 in all hitting attributes except Avoid Ks (pot: 3).

1B Pita Rona (0.5, 4) - 18 years old. 1/3 Contact, 2/4 Gap Power, 1/4 HR Power, 2/5 Eye, 1/4 Avoid Ks.

Record: 8-19, .296, 7.5 GB, 5th in the AL East

Until April 21st, we only won games when SP Edwin Jackson started. He's been the only pitcher to perform well. The rest of my starters are getting destroyed.

For batting in the AL, my team has the most home runs (50 - 2nd place LA: 34). The 3rd most RBI (127, 1st place Texas: 153, 2nd place Cleveland: 135). The 3rd most runs (133), The most times walked (121, 2nd place Oakland: 118), ranked around the middle in strike outs. Our batting average is at the average for the league (.244 for us, .247 AL avg). Our OBP is .333 (3rd best in league), .317 AL avg. We have .445 SLG, the best in the league (.393 AL avg).

For pitching......it's fugly. We have given up, by far, the most runs (197, 2nd worst is Toronto with 155....42 run difference in just one month!), have given up the most home runs (40, Texas is 2nd worst at 37), have walked the most (120, 2nd worst is KC with 119), we are getting some Ks, we're middle of the road there with 206 (worst is Houston with 166). Our opponent's batting average is .293, worst in the league. Our opponent's OBP is .374, worst in the league. Our opponent's SLG is .485, worst in the league. Our ERA is 6.86, worst in the league (2nd worst is Toronto with 5.02)

SP Edwin Jackson. 3 wins, 1 lose. 2.36 ERA
SP Brian Matusz. 0 wins, 4 loses. 11.70 ERA (he's already been replaced in the rotation by Steve Cholmondelay, my only other option....)
SP Jack Arrieta. 1 win, 3 loses. 7.88 ERA
SP Zach Britton. 1 win, 2 loses. 5.34 ERA
SP Wei-Yin Chen. 1 win, 3 loses. 12.68 ERA

And my bullpen hasn't been doing much better.

Edwin Jackson is asking to be traded because he doesn't like playing for a losing team. Uhhh, Jackson.....then why the hell did you come to Baltimore!?

3-Game Series at Oakland A's
May 31: 4-2 Win
June 1: 4-0 Win
June 2: 5-4 Win

On a better note, 3B Mark Reynolds tells me he likes playing here and wants to work out a long term deal.

On a not so good note, I'm paying him $10.6 million to hit .204 so I say goodbye to Mark Reynolds and trade him to Cleveland for 1B Daric Barton. He's batting .296 with an OBP of .402, .497 SLG

SP Edwin Jackson. 5-4, 2.43 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .204 OAVG .... and he wants a trade.
SP Steve Cholmondeley. 0-3, 4.26 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, .268 OAVG
SP Jake Arrieta. 1-6, 8.36 ERA, 2.02 WHIP, .324 OAVG
SP Zach Britton. 3-3, 5.54 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, .295 OAVG
SP Wei-Yin Chen. 2-6, 9.40 ERA, 2.13 WHIP, .367 OAVG

Brian Matusz has worked his ERA down to 8.18 (from a lot more) as a reliever. I guess it's time to give him another shot. He'll replace Chen.

I trade SP Wei-Yin Chen to the Angels for 3B Maicer Izturis and a prospect, CL Daniel Tillman.

I trade SP Jake Arrieta, 1B Wilson Betemit and CF Antoan Richardson to St. Louis for MR Kyle McClellan (Stam: 3 so can start), prospect SP Juan Bautista and prospect SP Tyrell Jenkins.

Cleaning house...

2B Robert Andino has not been good this year and the minor leaguer I promoted to fill in the spot for 2B Brian Roberts has clearly outplayed it. I can't send Andino to the minors unless he clears waivers. I trade Andino to the Braves for MR Johnny Venters.

3-Game Series at Minnesota Twins

2B Brian Roberts wants a contract. He's been a pretty good player for me. This year, hitting .281, .374 OBP, .386 SLG. Not a power hitter, but he's one of the better hitters one my team and is performing better than last year.

2B Brian Roberts signed a 3 year, $12.6 million contract. He got $10 mil through arbitration, and from 2014-2016 he'll get $4.2 mil a year. The fans responded favorably.

I call up Chris Tillman to give him a shot. I'd love to give Dylan Bundy a shot, but he's on the DL for several months.

I trade SS JJ Hardy to the Seattle Mariners for RF Jason Bourgeois. He's not a superstar, but he can play any outfield position and has good Contact and and Avoid Ks ratings. Good enough to plug into any outfield position when needed.

I trade 1B prospect Pepe Guerra to St. Louis for a pair of MRs, Fernando Salas and Jordan Swagerty. Swagerty has a stamina rating of 3, so I'll give him a try at starting.

I trade MR Luis Ayala to Minnesota for C Tobias Streich to help make room for the new MRs.

Starting Jordan Swagerty has turned out well. By Baltimore standards, anyway. 2 wins, 1 lose, 5.01 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, .285 OAVG. Doesn't look all that good, but still better than 2 of more other starters. Plus, he's my only starter with a winning record.

So, where do I even begin to try to fix this team....I have a penny-pincher, 84 year old owner. I don't have much money to do anything with.

Arbitration
C Matt Wieters - He's been an above average hitter for me, and he's a great catcher, but he's going to cost close to $10 million, at least. I have a catcher in Brian Ward who is ready to step in and he's a better hitter.

1B Daric Barton - Worked out much better than I expected and performed well. He's going to cost ~$7.5 million. I can't keep Wieters and Barton. They have the same batting average, Barton gets on base more, has a slightly better slugging, and is going to cost less. I keep Barton and let Wieters go.

SP Zach Britton and SP Brian Matusz - I let both go and am very happy too. Matusz was a major disappointment.

MR Kyle McClellan - another disappointment. Wanted to give him another shot, but at $3mil or more, he's not worth it.

MR Fernando Salas - Gets a $800,000 offer.

MR Johnny Venters - was great for us and gets a $3 mill offer

LF Matt LaPorta - Disappointment. I don't even want him for the ~$800,000 he would cost.

RF Jason Bourgeois - He's a solid hitter, can play any outfield position and can steal. Gets a $3.4 million offer.

1B Joe Mahoney....no, no arbitration yet. He's still on $480,000 a year but the day will come soon that I will need to pay him a truckload of money, or trade him....

Trades
I trade RF Adam Jones (too expensive and underperformed) and SP Wynn Pelzer (27 year old minor leaguer who is not improving) to the Texas Rangers for 24 year old SP Barret Loux and 25 year old MR Ovispo De Los Santos. Both may need 1-2 years in the minors, although Loux will probably get a shot at starting next year. (That's his expectation)

I trade C Matt Wieders and CF Jai Miller to the Tampa Bay Rays for 32 year old RF Ben Zobrist and 23 year old prospect SP Parker Markel. Doesn't save me a lot of money, but I it gets me a decent hitting outfielder....finally.

I trade LF Bobby Stevens to the Tampa Bay Rays for 27 year old MR Daniel Schlereth.

I trade C Austin Barnes and SP Brian Matusz to the San Diego Padres for MR Anthony Bass and 23 year old prospect LF Jaff Decker.

I trade MR Kyle McClellan and prospect CF Trent Mummy (who doesn't look like he's panning out) to the SF Giants for 29 year old RF Gregor Blanco and 20 year old prospect SS Ignacio Reyes.

I trade SP Zach Britton to the Pittsburgh Pirates for 26 year old SS Chase d'Arnaud.

I trade LF Matt LaPorta and 22 year old prospect SP Parker Bridwell (doesn't look like much) to the Detroit Tigers for 28 year old MR Vinnie Pestrano and 22 year old prospect SS Eugenio Suarez.

Results of Arbitration
Jason Bourgeois gets $3.4 million
MR Jonny Venters gets $3.5 million (sided with player)
1B Daric Barton gets $7.15 million
MR Fernando Salas gets $750,000
MR Daniel Schlereth gets $2.1 million

A few top rated starting pitchers are on the market, including Roy Halladay, but they are all too expensive.

I trade 3B Maicer Izturis to the Arizona Diamondbacks for C Rene Rivera. Don't expect much from him, this was purely a salary dump.

I trade SP Edwin Jackson, RF Ronnie Welty and 3B Ryan Admas to the Texas Rangers for 23 year old SP Roman Mendez, 22 year old SP Martin Perez and 23 year old 2B Ryan Gennett. Another salary dump, really. Jackson started off on fire for us, but after the first month, he performed around the same as the rest of my starters. He told me he wanted a trade, and then proceeded to dog it. He was costing me $18 mil per year. Now he's someone else's problem.

All my trading left my very heavy in the MR department. At least, according to the star and attribute ratings.....

I trade MR Hong-Chih Kuo and 2B prospect Raul Vasquez to the Chicago White Sox for CF Greg Golson and 22 year old prospect SP Jeffrey Soptic.

I sign free agent SP Greg Smith to a 1 year, $768k deal.

I sign SP John Maine to a 1 year, $912,000 deal.

I sign SP Paul Maholm to a 1 year, ~$3 mil deal.

I sign MR Sean Doolittle to a minor league contract.

I sign 2B Josh R. Johnson to a 1 year, $800k deal.

I sign SP Bronson Arroyo to a 3 year (with one vesting option), $11.1 mil deal.

I sign SP A.J. Burnett to a 3 year (with one wasting option), $12.6 mil deal.

I trade SP Steve Cholmondeley and SP Jacob Pettit to the Colorado Rockies for 22 year old 3B Nolan Arenado and 21 year old SP Aaron Sanchez.

Here's how my roster has lined up after those moves

Starting Pitchers
Bronson Arroyo (2.5 / 2.5)
A.J.Burnett (2.0 / 2.0)
Jordan Swagerty (2.0 / 5.0)
Barret Loux (1.5 / 3.5)
Paul Maholm (0.5 / 0.5)

Bullpen
Vinnie Pestano (4.5 / 4.5)
Fernando Salas (3.5 / 2.0)
Daniel Schlereth (4.0 / 4.0)
Pedro Strop (2.5 / 4.0)
Jonny Venters (4.5 / 4.0)
Philippe Aumont (3.5 / 4.0)

Batters
C Brian Ward (3.0 / 4.0) - Starter
C Rene Rivera (1.5 / 1.5)
1B Joe Mahoney (5.0 / 5.0) - DH (Starter when facing NL teams)
1B Daric Barton (2.0 / 2.5) - Starter
2B Brian Roberts (1.0 / 1.0) - Starter
2B Freddy Galvis (2.5 / 2.5)
SS Ryan Flaherty (4.0 / 4.0) - Starter
3B Chase d'Arnaud (4.0 / 4.5) - Starter
3B Nolan Arenado (4.0 / 5.0)
LF Jaff Decker (2.5 / 4.0) - Starter
CF Greg Golson (2.0 / 5.0) - Starter
RF Ben Zobrist (2.5 / 2.5) - Starter
RF Jason Bougeois (2.0 / 2.0) - Backup for all 3 OF spots
RF Gregor Blanco (1.0 / 1.0)

Chase d'Arnauld is the backup for SS as well. If Flaherty gets injured, d'Arnauld moves to SS and Arenado will start at 3B.

Looks a lot like my roster at the beginning of last season, except I'm a bit weaker at SP and a bit stronger in the outfield. I'm loaded up in the infield and bullpen, but the star ratings can be far off. 1 Star Brian Roberts plays very well, 2.5 star Galvis disappoints me every time he steps foot on the field.

Boston came at me with an interesting trade offer. They were going to send me SP Jon Lester (4.5 / 4.5), but they wanted 1B Joe Mahoney. Sorry, he's not going anywhere.

Had a bit of buyer's remorse with Paul Maholm. I trade him and 3B prospect Jason Esposito to the LA Angels for prospects CF Travis Witherspoon and 1B C.J. Cron

Maholm is replaced by SP Martin Perez (1.5 / 1.5)

Tried to trade Pedro Strop, but no one wanted him. I had to put him on waivers to demote him and Cleveland claims him. I promote MR Daniel Klein (3.5 / 5.0)

So what the hell is going on?

I'm 14th in Runs Scored, 9th in Batting AVG, 8th in On-Base PCT, 15th in Home Runs, t-10th in Stolen Bases.

11th in Runs Against, 15th in Starters ERA, 3rd in Bullpen ERA, 6th in Defensive Eff.

Gio Gonzales on the Nationals was 4-0, 1.96 ERA, 1.17 WHIP. On the Orioles, 1-3, 5.87 ERA, 1.43 WHIP. He is unhappy about be traded to me. Maybe he'll get over it soon.

Wang has not lived up to his hype either. 0-3, 7.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP.

The other starters...

Bronson Arroyo, 4-7, 5.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, .278 OAVG.
Martin Perez, 3-5, 3.76 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, .245 OAVG
Chris Tillman, 1-0, 1.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, .207 OAVG (just moved up)

Jordan Swagerty before being sent down, 1-3, 6.10 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, .286 OAVG
Barret Loux before being sent down, 3-4, 5.26 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, .239 OAVG

I wanted to keep Loux on, but I couldn't demote anyone else besides Perez and Perez is doing better. If Arroyo or Wang don't turn it around, though, I'll ship one of them out for a few bats and bring Loux back up.

On the batters side, C Brian Ward isn't living up to expectations. I couldn't afford to keep Weiters, so I didn't have a choice, but Ward is only batting .183, .272 OBP, .266 SLG.

In '12 and '13, Mahoney was an over .300 batter and over .400 OBP with a SLG over near .600. He's at .259 AVG right now and an OBP of .385 and a SLG of .443

1B Daric Barton - .282 AVG, .378 OBP, .424 SLG
2B Ryan Gennett - .271 AVG, .328 OBP, .383 SLG
3B Chase d'Arnaud - .252 AVG, .286 OBP, .353 SLG
3B Nolan Arenado - .260 AVG, .308 OBP, .396 SLG
SS Ryan Flaherty - .265 AVG, .356 OBP, .411 SLG
LF Jason Bourgeois - .290 AVG, .308 OBP, .331 SLG
CF Greg Golson - .279 AVG, .318 OBP, .484 SLG
RF Ben Zobrist - .247 AVG, .369 OBP, .432 SLG

I trade SS Freddy Galvis to the SD Padres for 25 year old 3B prospect Kevin Ahrens (1.0 / 3.5)

I trade 1B Daric Barton to the Texas Rangers for SP Yu Darvish and 25 year old SP Raudel Lazo. I hesitated to make this trade, and I'm already regretting it, but I need to get a few really good starting pitchers. Barton was a great hitter, but I already have a great hitter at 1st and a few other good options for DH.

Martin Perez becomes a MR and Daniel Tillman is sent down.

3 Game Series at Seattle Mariners
July 28: 3-7 Loss
July 29: 4-5 Loss
July 30: 5-4 Win
