Golf Grand Slam Pool

I did this several years ago, before I started working on my Master’s Degree and my free time was so limited, and I’m pretty sure someone picked up the ball and ran with it for a year or so in my absence…but I be interested in resurrecting this if the interest is high enough.

In this game, each person will pick 7 golfers for all 4 majors, plus the TPC Championship. No golfer can be picked more than twice. To determine your score you take the top 5 players out of the 7, and add up where they finished in the standings. First place is 1 point, second is 2 points, etc. The total points are added together and the lowest point total wins.

There will be a winner for each event and an overall winner for the entire contest. Please sign up if you’re interested…

Feel free to PM me your 7 gofers whenever you are ready.

Keep in mind you can only use a golfer 2 times in the 5 tournaments. (4 majors and TPC Sawgrass)...

Just a quick note. I had someone ask me a question through PM, and I think it is important to explain. Right now if you are interested in playing, I only need your 7 players for the masters. I don't need you to make your selections for every major right now. I'll bump this thread back to the top prior to each event so picks can be made.

Just a couple of mistakes, but most were on the players that didn't count anyway. The only one I saw that actually counted was Choi's 44 on NTN...that should actually be a 46...

Nice job everyone....

YD wins the Masters with a 58, but nobody blew up, so the overall championship is still very much up in the air. The 30 or so points separating first from last can change very quickly...

Well, guess time will tell if I made a good decision holding back on Woods - 4th isn't too shabby.

I'm very surprised that no one took Rory.

I've done that in the past with my regular group. Though I alway like Tiger's chances at the Masters, he's so strong and consistently good in the opens when it is much more of a crap shoot and when being wrong can be very painful, that I've saved him for those events. It can be argued that a 10th or so from Woods in the Open is better than a 4th at the Masters...

It's either going to go really well or really not for me. We'll see. But I'm confident we can keep up the Masters momentum.

Will likely lose my dark horses to the cut unfortunately. Should've kept Tiger on tap, but he doesn't usually play well here. I guess that's the pre-Vonn and post-Vonn can do for you.

This is not going well - three missed cut, and Van Pelt's 79 today puts him in last place among those who made it.

Sergio's meltdown did me no favors at all in this one. I literally wasthisclose to putting Tiger on the squad and he makes me pay big.

Ok, so here are the final scores from the TPC...and accept for YD they are UGLY...

Breeze - 156
ntdeacon - 256
hoopsguy - 186
Young Drachma - 45
KingFC22 - 106

So a couple of quick notes to clarify the differences from the scores YD posted...

A missed cut is the final number +1. So in this case the last place finisher was a 77, so every missed cut counts 78. Also on KingFC22's score YD had Z. Johnson down for a MC and he actually finished 19th. Please feel free to check my totals...

I had a really slick spreadsheet I used to do this on years ago...had formulas, color coding, etc. Unfortunately, I can't find it, so I may have to rebuild the thing...

Overall Scores (after 2 events)

Young Drachma - 103
KingFC22 - 179
Breeze - 245
hoopsguy - 258
ntdeacon - 347

YD has a huge early lead, but it can disappear fast, especially with the 2 Opens coming up next. I was once leading in my pool after the first 3 events by about 60 points, but at the Brittish Open I had only 3 guys make the cut. Had to rally with a strong PGA just to finish 3rd overall

Might want to stay away from picking Sergio moving forward then

It's funny when you play this regularly you'll get to where some golfers drive you nuts. Several years back with Toms was one of the best players in the world we would pick him and he would invariably miss the cut. For 5 picks over 2+ years he never made the cut for me (didn't this week either). He was affectionately known as David Effing Toms around my house...
