Initial thoughts...this team is young but that makes sense as this is the first year of their existence. We aren't very good either, this could be a long season. I plan on mixing Babe Parilli in at quarterback so I can raise his trade stock.
Historically Flores started 13 of 14 games so this first season will be fairly acurate in terms of the starting quarterback. The scouting department is extremely concerned about our quarterbacks, flankers, split ends, tackles, linebackers, cornerbacks, safties and kicker so we may have a few holes to plug.

Oakland(-4) at Minnesota
Oakland Raiders 0 2 0 8 - 10
Minnesota Vikings 0 0 0 7 - 7
2Q: 01:54 OAK - Safety, holding called in the end zone
4Q: 09:23 MIN - Colby Lyons 19 run (Filmel Harris extra point)
4Q: 03:38 OAK - Kelly Sax 15 pass from Babe Parilli (Babe Parilli pass to Al Hoisington for conversion)

This game was not pretty if you like offense and I'm not sure how worried I should be about our offense
at the moment. Flores was 6/10 for 49 yards. Our backs had four fumbles but we were able to get on top
of three. Ian Nichols had 14 rushes for 42 yards. The offensive line looked decent, only giving up two sacks
for the game. CB Mackenzie Shireman was the leader in tackles, not a good sign. The only injury to report
was Jim Otto, our starting center who suffered a broken toe, probable for the next two weeks. The locker room is content at the moment
so I will continue with the starting lineup for now. Babe Parilli was shopped after this game with no interest being shown.

Not a lot to write home about in our performance this game. Offense cut down on its fumbles and
we made two picks but other than that our defense was pretty mediocre. We will start all our first
stringers next week and let them play a majority of the game to get a good gauge of where we are
as a team. LT Ron Sabal will be sidelined for the next four weeks with an abdominal strain.

Damn...as we continued our tour of the NFC North we had a chance to win a game we shouldn't but a Willie Wood touchdown return on a poorly thrown pass killed the Oakland rally. Wood accounted for three of our four turnovers and was the game MVP. Games like this really bother me even though it means nothing in the standings. Flores played a decent game and we have figured out the Carl Scurlock will be our punter and Daniel Macon will be our kicker for this season anyway.

Well to start out with some positive thoughts I am very excited about our defense, three out of the four games we played outstanding and one half was really what did us in. Our offense however looks very poor. I guess that is to be expected since our team is not very good and very young but hopefully we can get it together and score a few more points. OT Ron Sabal is questionable for the next two weeks, DT George Fields is out for four weeks with a hyperextended knee and SS Conner Gardner is out three weeks with a strained calf muscle.

Oakland at New York Jets(-4)

Oakland Raiders 3 7 0 0 - 10
New Jersey Jets 0 7 14 10 - 31
1Q: 05:14 OAK - Daniel Macon 30 field goal
2Q: 07:30 OAK - J.D. Smith 15 pass from Babe Parilli (Daniel Macon extra point)

4Q: 14:18 NJY - Jameson Anthony 19 field goal
4Q: 09:24 NJY - Don Perkins 97 run (Jameson Anthony extra point)

After watching the first half I thought I was going to get to report a mild upset over the Jets. Even though Tom Flores had been benched after going 4/16 the Raiders still went into the locker room with a three point lead but the Jets erupted in the 2nd half. Don Maynard was the player of the game with eleven catches for 175 yard and a score. Our pass defense had two picks by Joe Cannavino to help keep the Raiders in the game but we looked pathetic, paticularly against the pass. Tom Louderback led the team in tackles with nine. The only positive we had on the offensive side of the ball was the running game with Wayne Crow who had 75 yards on 17 carries.
OT Ron Sabal will return Week 2 and we have no new injuries. Next week is the home opener against the Houston Texans who lost on a last second
field goal against Washington.

New from around the League
Analysts are calling out Clarence Peaks of the Philadelphia Eagles for his lackluster performance in this week's game against Jacksonville.

They suspect troubles down the road with Peaks. He might never become a player mentor. He might end up
negatively affecting team chemistry. And, if he becomes unhappy with playing time, he will be less likely to work with the Eagles in the future.

Houston at Oakland(-6)

Houston Texans 7 0 0 10 0 - 17
Oakland Raiders 0 10 7 0 6 - 23
1Q: 09:59 HOU - Kyle Scott 5 pass from Rodolfo Lewis (Jamal Rocker extra point)
2Q: 08:14 OAK - Daniel Macon 24 field goal

4Q: 03:15 HOU - Jamal Rocker 31 field goal
OT: 07:48 OAK - Doug Asad 47 pass from Tom Flores

A very entertaining back and forth between the two teams, Tom Flores was the Game MVP with his 33/43/228 two touchdown perfomance but it just as easily could have been Wayne Crow with 110 yards on 21 carries. Doug
Asad stepped in with 3 big catches after Gene Prebola was knocked out of the game and the season with a torn ACL, he will be a huge loss for this young team. The defense was bend but don't break for much of the game, Tom Louderback was once again the tackle leader for the game and Joe Cannavino had another interception. The undrafted Buckeye has been a huge addition to the team. Next week Oakland travels to Boston to face the Patriots who have split two games on the road, the last one a comeback win over the Vikings. On a side note I have started negotiations with key players, the first one is LG Al Barry. Babe Parilli and Wade Blanchard are disgruntled over playing time.

4Q: 00:10 OAK - Walter Beach 91 interception return (Daniel Macon extra point)

An incredible interception return caps off a 14 point comeback to put the Oakland Raiders at 2-1. Tom Flores was the MVP for the second game in a row with a 21/39 237 yard 2 touchdown performance. The running game wasn't quite up to par with the last game, Wayne Crow had 37 yards on 18 attempts. We were very lucky to win this game as Butch Songin moved the
Patriots up and down the field, luckily our defense is the definition of "bend don't break"as we capitalized on 5 New England turnovers. Our defense had a new leading tackler as Bob Dougherty had 9 solo stops. Next week finds the Raiders back in California taking on a Dolphin team that has lost 3 games by a total of 11 points. Al Barry agreed to a three year contract
extension, our next target will be DE Carmen Cavalli.

Another entertaining back and forth for the Raiders as they win third nailbiter in a row and send Miami to 0-4. Tom Flores was 18/31 168 yards with two touchdowns and has put the nightmarish first game behind him. My only complaint with him is penchant for fumbling the last two games which is a little worrisome. The running game wasn't much better than the previous game with Wayne Crow having a 2.33 average, Billy Lott may have to see a bit more playing time. Kelly Sax is making the GM look very smart as an undrafted possession receiver and Al Goldstein is blossoming
as a deep threat. The defense provided the MVP as Bob Dougherty had two of the four Oakland interceptions. Next week we stay home and get healthy, bruised sternums seem to be epidemicin Oakland. Carmen Cavalli refused our first offer so we will keep trying to sign him, he is leading the team in sacks so I would like to keep him around. Five players have multiple picks with CB Joe Cannavino leading the race.

Week 1-4 Summary
I feel good with the 3-1 record, I would feel better if the four teams we have played weren't a combined 3-13. We are currently tied with San Diego for first place in the West with Denver a half game behind. Around the league
Pittsburgh looks very strong offensively at 4-0. Indianapolis is 4-0 and has given up a total of 29 points in 4 games. Buffalo is also 4-0 looking very strong defensive wise. Detroit and Dallas look strong in the NFC both at 4-0. Oakland currently has the 7th ranked rushing attack and 13th ranked passing attack. Opponents are 28th in rushing and passing against the Raiders. Oakland is also first in turnover margin at plus 6 and 27th in points per game at 24. The next four games have the Chargers and Cardinals coming into Oakland and then we pay visits to Cleveland and Seattle.

4Q: 07:15 OAK - Kelly Sax 31 pass from Paul Larson (Daniel Macon extra point)

The old coach saying about burning the game tape absolutely applies to this game, we couldn't get out of our own way today. Charger QB Jerry Francis had a rating of 133.8, throwing 4 touchdowns in the process. All three Oakland quarterbacks made it into the game as Flores and Larson both suffered injuries. Al Goldstein suffered a season ender and quite possibly a career ender with a torn ACL with nerve damage. S Irving Rayburn led the defense (what little there was) with 11 tackles and an interception. Arizona comes to town next week so hopefully we can regroup and play better.

For some reason our offense did not show up today at all, 210 net yards is all we could muster against the leagues 28th ranked defense. RB Wayne Crow has officially lost his starting position with 35 yards on 22 carries. Tom Flores struggled in the first half and had to be pulled, I'm thinking of giving Babe Parilli the start next week. Our defense played stout today, only giving up 287 total yards. CB Mason Nixon led the way with nine total tackles but we were unable to get to Cardinal QB Charley Johnson.
Next week we travel to Cleveland and it is going to be a very tough game for us, fortunately QB Len Dawson is out for Cleveland. We need to right this ship quick or major changes will be coming.

Oakland at Cleveland(-11)

4Q: 01:55 OAK - Daniel Macon 35 field goal

A lost weekend in Cleveland dropped the Raiders below .500 for the second time this season. Cleveland's All Pro QB Len Dawson missed the game but it didn't matter because second stringer Milt Plum put the team on his back and threw for 342 yard. Jim Brown had three touchdowns and put a hurting on the Raider defense. Oakland's first play from scrimmage went for thirty yards but it was called back due to a holding penalty and that set the tone for the game. Next week the Raiders are on the road again, this time in the Pacific Northwest against Seattle.

This game was way to close for my taste, Oakland fumbled and allowed Seattle a touchdown right before halftime to make the score 14-10 and then fumbled the ball at their own 30 to give up another short field for the Seahawks. We were managed to squeak out a win in overtime, our third OT win of the season. Tom Flores was the game MVP with two touchdown passes to Kelly Sax and Daniel Macon just keeps making field goals. Penalties helped keep the Seahawks close as well, eleven for 84 yards. Defensively LB Spain Tuman led the way with nine tackles, we forced three fumbles but were unable to recover any of them. We return home next week to take on division foe Denver, we are 2.5 games behind San Diego so we need to keep winning.

Week 5-9 Summary
The good feeling I had with this team has evaporated, the losses to San Diego and Cleveland are understandable but losing to Arizona hurt. Our offense needs to get back on track, two touchdowns in three games is not acceptable. We are currently 11th in rushing and 20th in passing, 29th against the rush and 28th against the pass. Defense will obviously be
addressed in the offseason. San Diego is firmly in charge of our division with Denver and Oakland three games back. Indianapolis is undefeated
at 9-0 and has scored the second most points in the AFC without the services of Johnny Unitas. Cleveland is 7-1 and Pittsburgh 7-2 in the tough AFC Central and Buffalo is leading the AFC East by three games. In the NFC Detroit and Green Bay are both 7-1 in the North with Chicago only two games back. Tampa Bay leads a weak NFC South, San Francisco is 7-1 leading the West and Dallas has scored the most points in the league and leads the East with a 7-2 record. Oakland has three straight division games, home with Denver, at San Diego, back at home against Kansas City and then a trip to St. Louis to take on the Rams. Wayne Crow is disgruntled with his reduced role but I am disgruntled with his play so it's mutual.

Denver(-5) at Oakland

Denver Broncos 10 3 0 3 - 16
Oakland Raiders 0 7 3 11 - 21

1Q: 07:21 DEN - Gene Mingo 32 field goal

4Q: 04:22 OAK - Safety, holding called in the end zone
4Q: 02:49 OAK - Ray Armstrong 9 fumble return (Tom Flores run for conversion failed)

On a sloppy muddy field the Raiders scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and had a huge goal line stand with less than a minute left and defeat their foe from Denver. Flores had a subpar game but Billy Lott continues to make me look start for inserting him into the starting lineup with 82 yards rushing and 26 yards receiving, he just seems to make plays when it is needed. LB Fernando Wolf led the team with 12 tackles and the defense harrassed Frank Tripucka to the tune of seven sacks. One of the biggest plays was a holding call in the end zone to provide a safety for the Raiders and swing the momentum. Daniel Macon added two more field goals to up his total to 14/15 for the year. Our special teams play this year has been excellent with Asst. Head Coach Bobby April providing the spark this team needs at times. Oakland travels down the coast for another division matchup looking to pay back the Chargers for a Week 6 beat down.

Kind of a good news, bad news type of game that the Raiders played against the Chargers, we managed to hold them to one touchdown and five field goals but the Chargers managed to keep us off of the scoreboard. For the first time in Raider history we were shut out. We couldn't get anything going on offense, only able to put up 184 yards total and only 29 yards rushing. The Charger defense forced four Flores interceptions, the young signal caller is really struggling right now. LB Fernando Wolf led the team with ten tackles but our defense took a serious blow when we lost Don Deskins, our first round pick from last years draft until next year due to a MCL tear. Kansas City come to Oakland next week and we really need a win to keep our flickering playoff hopes alive.

Kansas City at Oakland (-1)

Kansas City Chiefs 3 14 0 7 - 24
Oakland Raiders 7 3 3 0 - 13
1Q: 07:39 OAK - Doug Asad 11 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)

3Q: 00:40 OAK - Daniel Macon 31 field goal
4Q: 09:32 KCY - Duane Wood 38 fumble return (Kerry Lasica extra point)

This one hurt, we handed KC five turnovers, two of which they returned for touchdowns which proved to be the diference in the game.Tom Flores threw three more picks and sprained his knee, we will sit him for at least one week and give Parelli a start. Billy Lott will be out for at least two games due to a strained elbow tendon, both starting receivers are banged up and our starting right tackle will be out due to an elbow issue. To say injuries are starting to mount would be an understatement. Fernando Wolf once again led the defense in tackles with seven. DE Carmen Cavalli added another sack to bring his total for the year to 6, he has by far been our most consistent pass rusher this year. Next up is St. Louis who has dropped 3 of their last 4 but should be getting QB Frank Ryan back from injury.

There is no doubt about it, we are in free fall, with Flores hurt we gave Parelli the start and he looked terrible, so we threw third stringer Donnie Davison, just signed this week, to the wolves. Davison didn't look horrible
and he may compete for the starting job next year, but today he just could not get it going. That has been a theme the last few weeks, not matter what we try on offense it just doesn't work. The defense hasn't really
been horrible, they are just getting worn out because the offense is so bad. 11-1 San Francisco comes to the Coliseum this week, not looking forward to this game.

Week 10-13 Summary
This team is young and not very good, we have multiple areas to focus on in the offseason and playoffs are the furthest thing from our minds. We are down at the bottom of all categories and we have dropped to 24th in the league in turnover margin. We finish up the season with San Fran, at Kansas City, Buffalo and a final road trip to Denver, hopefully we can salvage
something from this season and play for pride. Indy is still undefeated but they have two big games coming up with Cleveland and Dallas. Cleveland leads Pittsburg by one game and Buffalo is up by three in the East. San Francisco and Detroit are tied with matching 11-1 records although Green Bay is staying in there at 10-2. Dallas is 9-3 and Tampa Bay is 5-7 and leading the South. Miami is currently 0-12 and has poor prospects of winning this year.

San Francisco (-13) at Oakland

San Francisco 49ers 7 7 0 7 - 21
Oakland Raiders 0 3 3 7 - 13
1Q: 07:49 SFO - Taylor Floyd 4 pass from Y.A. Tittle (Maxwell Sanford extra point)
2Q: 06:05 SFO - Jerald Lewis 8 pass from Y.A. Tittle (Maxwell Sanford extra point)
2Q: 00:43 OAK - Daniel Macon 42 field goal
3Q: 07:37 OAK - Daniel Macon 30 field goal
4Q: 09:25 SFO - Taylor Floyd 18 pass from Y.A. Tittle (Maxwell Sanford extra point)
4Q: 00:42 OAK - Shaquille Jacob 5 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)

An offense that looked very promising after the first four weeks has regressed as the season as gone on. Flores looks lost but in his defense it is not all of his fault, this young team is just not catching any breaks. Fernando Wolf had his third game this season leading the Raiders in tackles for game with 12. Cavalli had another sack and was continuously harrasing YA Tittle during the game. We go on the road and try to repay Kansas City for the beating they put on us earlier in the season. Indianapolis is no longer undefeated as Cleveland beat them by 8 in the dawg pound.

Oakland at Kansas City (-4)

Oakland Raiders 0 3 0 10 - 13

4Q: 12:37 OAK - Billy Lott 70 run (Daniel Macon extra point)
4Q: 05:38 OAK - Daniel Macon 36 field goal

Two inept offenses met in KC and the Raiders managed to win the day. Billy Lott was game MVP due to his 120 yard performance
which included a 70 yard touchdown run, his longest of the year. Some changes will have to happen this offseason because we have regressed. SS Irving Rayburn had two interceptions and LB Bob Dougherty had 7 tackles. We have managed to keep penalties down the last two games and our defense has adopted a bend but don't break mentality. Next week Buffalo comes out west for our last home game, we have several players who are coming back to full speed so maybe we can finish this season mediocre.

4Q: 10:25 BUF - Wray Carlton 16 run (Darrell Harper extra point)
4Q: 01:40 BUF - Darrell Harper 35 field goal

Same old song and dance this week, our offense forgot to show up and Buffalo cruised to an easy victory. We were behind 13-6 late in the 3rd but it was never very close. Red zone inefficiency seems to be the order of the day for us the last few weeks, Flores looked decent but we are going to start Donnie Davidson in the final game to see if we have a starter for next year on the roster. The running game was nonexistent even with Lott back from injury. Defensively we weren't able to pressure Johnny Green to speak off so he picked us apart, scoring just enough to put our anemic offense away. Next week we travel to Denver to finish the inaugural season and to play spoiler to the Broncos playoff hopes.

Oakland at Denver (-8)

Oakland Raiders 7 10 0 7 - 24
Denver Broncos 13 0 3 9 - 25

4Q: 05:13 DEN - B.J. Ward 9 pass from Frank Tripucka (Frank Tripucka pass for conversion failed)

A fitting end to the season as Donnie Davison tosses four picks, two returned for touchdowns and the Raiders fall by one point. Three of the interceptions were tips but Davison was just a touch off all day which
was the Raiders downfall. Lott and Crow combined for 153 yards on 31 carries and Kelly Sax added a two yard touchdown run. Joe Cannavino returned a fumble for a touchdown but the defense couldn't seem to get off the field in key moments.

Off Season To Do List
1 New staff members-ours grade out poor in player development and I want some guys who can teach
what little young talent that we have. I am happy with Coach Sparano but not happy enough to extend
his contract another year right now.

OC Mackenzie Russell 57-Signs a 4 year contract worth $380,000 per year. His primary focus is quarterbacks
and has high marks in player development, intelligence, motivation, discipline and play calling. Hopefully he
can get the most out of one of our two young quarterbacks.

DC Korey Manning 57-Another 4 year contract for $380,000, primary focus on the secondary. High marks in
player development, motivation, play calling and interview ability. The Raider secondary needs a lot of work and
we think Manning is the guy to get it done. Both coordinators are making $10,000 a year more than Coach Sparano.

2 Who to target in Free Agency-Guards, Tackles, Def Tackles, Weak Side Linebackers look good, everything else fair to poor. We may focus on our own free agents right now.

Current Targets
T Dick Klein Cowboys 65/65-6.7 grade and is the highest ranked free agent of the offseason not franchised. SIGNED WITH DOLPHINS
T Sherman Plunkett Colts 57/57-5.9 grade, a back up plan to Klein. SIGNED WITH PATRIOTS
T Frank Varrichone Steelers 49/49-5.2 grade, this is a longshot. SIGNED WITH STEELERS
G Duane Putnam Cowboys 51/51-4.7 grade, looks like he could transition to tackle possibly. SIGNED WITH FALCONS
WR Jerry Reichow Eagles 54/54-5.4 grade, huge upgrade to what we currently have. SIGNED WITH PANTHERS
WR Del Shofner Rams 47/47-4.8 grade, better than anything we have. SIGNED WITH RAIDERS

QB Donnie Davison-Resigned 1 year
RB Billy Lott 44/44-Resigned 2 years
FB JD Smith 29/37-Resigned 2 years
FB Bernie Blades 22/31-Resigned 2 years
WR Toby Stuff 19/27-Resigned 3 years
TE Gene Prebola 33/46-Resigned 2 years
P Carl Scurlock 44/48-Resigned 3 years
K Daniel Macon 37/37-Resigned 3 years
DT Don Deskins 43/54-Resigned 4 years coming off an MCL tear, crossing our fingers.
DT Wade Blanchard 29/46-Resigned 3 years
DT Gabriel Anthony 25/36-Resigned 2 Years
LB Fernando Wolf 20/29-Resigned 3 years
CB Walter Beach 26/35-Resigned 2 years
FS Mickey Buchanan 20/32-Resigned 2 years

3. Identify our needs for draft-Pretty much all over the board, our quarterbacks are weak, running backs decent, receivers
nothing to write home about and our offensive tackles need help. Defensively we need help on the line, middle and strong
side linebackers, a corner and both safeties. We finished tied with five other teams at 6-10 so we will draft 11, 10, 14, 13,12, 11 and 10. I believe we will use the "best player available" tag in this first draft.

Oakland traded down twice and we were still able to get the top tackle we wanted, we picked up an extra 3rd and 5th round pick in the process, like I stated, we have plenty of needs. 1st round featured only 3 trades with Oakland making 2 of them.

LT Ernie McMillan (Illinois)
31/61 6'8" 275 22 years old. McMillan is already the 3rd best linemen on our team and hopefully will be a fixture at left tackle for years to come. His volatility was a touch high (68) but we really liked his ceiling at 19% development. He has the frame to put on weight with pass blocking very high.

6th-Childs, Clarence, CB, Florida A&M

We traded the rest of our picks for extra picks next year and our draft graded to an A-, Mel Kiper called our GM a genius!

OT Ernie McMillan is the 7th highest rookie prospect in the league.

First thoughts...only starting 2 rookies this year as opposed to 18 last year. I'm pretty sure our quarterback of the future is not on the roster, Flores and Davidson will battle it out this year. Very weird schedule this year, we play our first four games and six of our first seven on the road. We get the NFC East this year with the Giants and Cowboys coming to Oakland.

1961 Exhibition-two words...we suck, 0-4...ok maybe a few more than two words, we did not play well at all. We are young and got better as the offseason progressed. Only two surprise cuts heading into the season, third round pick ClarenceChilds failed to make any progression throughout the preseason and was released. The other one was quarterback Donnie Davidson, who actually regressed, so Oakland cut ties with the hope that Louis Kurtz can be an adequate backup. The offensive line is the strongest unit on the team so we are going to focus on running the ball and trying to keep our time of possession up.

Week 1
Oakland at San Diego(-4)

Oakland Raiders 6 10 7 6 0 - 29

4Q: 00:06 OAK - Daniel Macon 41 field goal
OT: 08:09 SDO - George Blair 23 field goal

A big first half for the Raiders wasn't enough as we fall to 0-3 all time against the Chargers in OT. Our game plan seemed to work very well as we had forty minutes of possession but we couldn't seem to get the job done when it mattered most. Flores was 28/51 for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Lott and Crow combined for 146 yards but Lott had problems with his stamina and was not able to help much at the end of the game. Shofner had seven catches for 98 yards and one touchdown. Defensively we were able to force three fumble but couldn't recover any of them. Our corners led the team in tackles, not ever a good stat. Rick Mills had our only sack and we struggled to get pressure on the quarterback. Oakland flies across the country next week to take on the Redskins.

Total BS game, Washington had a kickoff return, fumble return and interception return for touchdowns, Oakland had two touchdowns reversed due to penalty. The type of game where the computer gives you a big screw you! Not going to have a recap for this game...on to New England.

The Raiders have sunk pretty low, 0-3 on this four game road trip, we are moving the ball and scoring points but we can't get off of the field because our secondary stinks. Flores has six touchdown passes but is giving the ball up way too much with eight turnovers in three games. The running game is decent but we are getting behind so quick that we have to give up the run. On defense we are getting absolutely no rush on the quarterback and because of that our def. backs are toast! I am giving Flores a tight leash this week. Cincinnati is 2-1 with a -18 point differential so maybe this team will be the cure for us.

Game of the Week: Cleveland at Indianapolis
Easily the biggest game of the young season as the two best teams in the AFC took to the field in Indianapolis. The Colts defense was able to stifle Len Dawson and the Cleveland running attack for much of the game and three Johnny Unitas touchdowns had Indy up big going into the fourth quarter. Cleveland came alive in the fourth quarter and scored ten points to cut the lead to four but a huge defensive sack on the Indy 12 yard line gave the win to the Colts 24-20.

Oakland at Cincinnati(-5)

Oakland Raiders 0 10 3 3 - 16

3Q: 00:43 CIN - Barry Marlow 23 pass from Weston Valenta (Jerry Traynham extra point)
4Q: 00:02 OAK - Daniel Macon 30 field goal

Finally the Raiders pull one out and get to have celebratory plane ride home to Oakland. I'm not sure if our defense was stellar or if the Bengals are just really bad but today it doesn't matter, we are finally in the win column. Flores was 26/39 but had another late pick that should have cost us but our defense was able to keep the Bengals out of the end zone. Our running attack was pretty worthless in this game both Lott and Crow were held below three yards rushing for the game. Next week we face Baltimore, another game we should win.

Game of the Week: Dallas at Carolina
Dallas arrived in Charlotte full of confidence but young Panther squad led by wily veteran Norm Van Brocklin and a tenacious defense kept Don Meredith and the Cowboys at bay the whole game. Both teams traded punches into the fourth quarter but a late field goal by Wendell Scholl gave the Panthers the upset win 23-20.

Week 1-4 Summary
I am a little disappointed in how this team has played the first quarter of the season. Washington and New England are not very good but they demolished us. Combine that with the fourth quarter comeback by San Diego and I am thinking we are looking forward to an early pick in the draft. Turnovers, untimely penalties and poor pass defense have caused some sleepless nights in the Oakland front office. Around the league Indianapolis is once again the cream of the AFC at 4-0. The Jets and Chargers are 3-1 and Cleveland is 2-1. Miami didn't win a game last year but already has two wins this year with first pick of the draft Fran Tarkenton starting and playing decent. The second worst team in the league last year was Carolina but they are undefeated in the NFC along with Green Bay, who is leading the league in scoring. World champion San Francisco is 3-1 as well as Washington and the Giants.

Introducing the new starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders #14 Louis Kurtz, I am tired of Flores and his drive killing interceptions, three more in the game including one returned for a touchdown. Kurtz played in 16 games last year for Kansas City and excels at throwing the long ball. Oakland front office execs are keeping an eye on the top college quarterbacks, Roman Gabriel and John Hadl. We had a chance in this game but turnovers plagued us. We improved on defense but I'm not sure if that is accurate or the last two teams we have played are not very good. We had six sacks against the Ravens, three by DE Cavalli. LB Spain Tuman is proving to be a good pickup in free agency as he currently leads the team in tackles. Oakland takes back to the road to take on Cleveland, whose only loss is to Indianapolis.

Game of the Week: Green Bay at St. Louis
The NFC favorite Packers travelled to St. Louis to play the young upstart Rams and for a good while it was a barnburner. Frank Ryan had the Rams moving down the field until Bill Forester stepped in front of a pass and returned it 89 yards for the touchdown. After that the Packers showed the Rams and the rest of the NFL why they are the beast of the NFC. Bart Starr threw two touchdown passes and Miguel Nordberg kicked four field goals to turn what the experts tabbed a close game into a rout 33-18.

4Q: 14:53 OAK - Bernie Blades 5 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)

That is a good team we just played, Len Dawson picked our secondary apart to the tune of 258 yards and three touchdowns. Prentice Gautt had 83 yards rushing and Jim Brown added 43 yards and a touchdown. Kurtz was fairly ineffective with 16/32 129 yards. A throw away weekend against one of the best teams in the league. Next week we head to Kansas City for our sixth road game this year against a team who has won their last two games.

Game of the Week: Detroit at Green Bay
For the second week in a row Green Bay was a contestant in the game of the week and they didn't disappoint. Earl Morrall threw four touchdown passes and it looked like Detroit was going to pull off a huge upset at Lambeau Field but Bart Starr rallied the Packers with thirteen points in the fourth quarter, including a touchdown with twenty-five seconds left. Both teams traded field goals to start the overtime period and then the Packers
went on a nine play, sixty-eight yard drive to kick a field goal and win the game 40-37.

An absolutely incredible comeback (heavy sarcasm) as Kansas City battle back from an 28-14 deficit with two big returns in the final six minutes of the game to drop the Raiders to 1-6, the worst record in the AFC. For those of you keeping score at home that is now four interceptions, three fumbles and three kickoffs/punts returned for touchdowns. Seventy of the 230 points scored against us on returns and we just finished game seven. Last in turnovers and next to last in turnover margin. The defense had
four interceptions, recovered one fumble and recorded three sacks this game and held the Chiefs to seventeen points but once again we draw the short straw, this keeps up and I may not have a job after this season. 3-3
Pittsburgh comes to town this week, this season is more than likely lost so we all we have left to do is play spoiler. The Steelers don't score a lot of points but don't give up a lot of points either.

Game of the Week: Detroit at San Francisco
Detroit continued with a hard schedule a week after facing the Packers in Lambeau they faced the defending world champs in Kezar Stadium. Both defenses were stout and until the fourth quarter the only points scored
were field goals and interception/kick returns. Earl Morrell threw a touchdown pass and the Lion defense forced the 49ers into a long field goal try that was missed and Detroit left California with a 17-16 victory.

Around the League
Analysts are calling out Kevin Toburen of the New Orleans Saints for his lackluster performance in this week's game against Washington. They suspect troubles down the road with Toburen. He might never become a player mentor. He might end up negatively affecting team chemistry,
and, if he becomes unhappy with playing time, he will be less likely to work with the Saints in the future.

Oakland jumped out to a 17-0 lead and I thought this game is easy...we give up 20 unanswered in the second half and I think that I will never figure this game out. My problems seem to lie in the second half, I have trouble mounting drives and even more trouble stopping them. Pittsburgh is a good team so I liked the way we played, Kurtz was erratic but not horribly so, Crow had another long touchdown run but not a lot else. The defense hurried Bobby Layne for most of the day (right up until the last drive anyway) to the tune of six sacks and we only gave up 29 yards rushing, but once more we just cant get off the field when we need to. It gets even better as division leading San Diego comes up the coast for us to play once more.

Week 5-8 Summary
Two losses by three points, an unbelievable comeback and a loss to one of the best teams in the league. No moral victories in the league but I have to take something out of the losses or I might just delete the season. Six of our next eight games are at home, I don't know whether its better to try and squeak out some wins or to just go ahead and suck so our draft position can hope to improve. If the season ended today we would have the third pick, probably just out of the reach of the two big time quarterbacks in the draft. Lance Alworth and Merlin Olson are also available but I have to have a QB to get the ball to Bambi and my defensive front is pretty good, so hopefully Atlanta and New Orleans can win some games. Cleveland and Indy are the cream of the AFC at 6-1 and 8-0. San Diego leads the west at 5-2 with New York leading a jumbled pack in the East at 4-3. Green Bay is undefeated and has a two game lead in the North. Carolina has won more games in the South this year at 7-1 than last years winner won in the whole year. Dallas, Washington and Philly are all 5-3 in the East with Dallas having won four in a row to get back into playoff contention. Arizona leads the defending champs by a half game in the West with St. Louis one game back at 4-4.

Week 9
San Diego(-10) at Oakland

San Diego Chargers 0 6 0 3 - 9
Oakland Raiders 0 7 10 0 - 17
2Q: 13:48 SDO - Dick Harris 87 interception return (George Blair extra point failed)
2Q: 08:43 OAK - J.D. Smith 2 pass from Louis Kurtz (Daniel Macon extra point)
3Q: 11:28 OAK - Daniel Macon 25 field goal
3Q: 02:52 OAK - Wayne Crow 20 run (Daniel Macon extra point)
4Q: 14:18 SDO - George Blair 49 field goal

To get the bad news out of the way first, Kurtz threw two touchdown passes, only one was to a Raider...but it doesn't matter because WE BEAT THE CHARGERS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FRANCHISE HISTORY! Kurtz had the one mistake throwing the pick but other than that was 24-32 for 204, turning into a solid game manager. Lott and Crow combine for 167 yards on thirty carries, Crow has broken long runs for touchdowns in the last three games, he is a definite spark plug for us. Defensively is where we shined today, giving up only three points and holding San Diego under 225 yards for the game. Carmen Cavalli was the Game MVP as he added two big sacks to up his total to eight for the year. The int return was the eleventh we have given in the season, raising the point total to seventy-six. Next week is an off week for us and then we travel to Denver who is just a game ahead of us in the weak AFC West.

Week 9
Game of the Week: Kansas City at Pittsburgh
This game started looking like a Pittsburgh route, Bobby Layne threw three touchdown passes early and got the Steeler up to 24-0 lead by half. After half it was a different story as the Chiefs came back to get within two late in the game and with 1:55 late in the game KC got the ball back and went on what could have been the game winning drive. On a fourth and six at their own 48 a last ditch hail mary fell short and the Steeler beat the Chiefs 24-22.

Week 10
Game of the Week: Philadelphia at Dallas
A good old fashioned NFC East slugfest as the Eagles and Cowboys battled in the Cotton Bowl. 2nd year phenom Don Meredith threw four touchdowns but
veteran Sonny Jurgeson matched him pass for pass. Dallas looked like they were going to run away with the game as they got up 21-7 in the 2nd quarter but Philadelphia methodically fought back and tied the score to begin the fourth quarter. The defenses ruled until overtime as Jurgeson drove the Eagles down the field for the game winning field goal as the Eagles defeat the Cowboys 31-28.

Around the League
Analysts are calling out Abe Cohen of the New Orleans Saints for his lackluster performance in this week's game against Carolina. They suspect troubles down the road with Cohen. He might never become a player mentor and he might end up negatively affecting team chemistry and, if he becomes unhappy with playing time, he will be less likely to work with the Saints in the future

A 14 point first quarter was the difference in the game as we allowed our 12th return for a touchdown this season and we fall to the Broncos 30-16. Our running game was non existent, 33 yards against the Bronco defense that is average at best. Kurtz had a decent day 26/40 301 yards. Nobody stood out on defense today, Wayne Anderson had 1.5 sacks but we were not able to get off the field when we needed to. Next week the Dallas Cowboys come to town, one game back in the NFC East.

Game of the Week: New England at Buffalo
This game was picked because of the rivalry that is developing between these two foes, QB Johnny Green left New England for Buffalo and had some
harsh words for his former teammates and coaches. When he defected it forced New England to pick a quarterback and it looks like they have found a good one in Sam Etcheverry (who I wanted and they picked one pick ahead of me. Green backed up his trash talk and made the Patriots look bad on this day, if not for a late Patriot this game wouldn't even had been as close as the 20-13 score indicated.

Damn, what could have been in this game, at times this team looks very good and then we can't get out of our own damn way. We should have won and probably would have if the GM wouldn't have attempted a fourth and 1 deep in our territory with less than two minutes...nice call you frigging Jerry Jones wannabe. I'm happy with Kurtz' play since he has become the starter, if he could just shake that annoying little problem of throwing a red zone pick, those really hurt, his three fumbles didn't help matters any but doesn't happen every game so I will overlook that problem for now. I really like the 194 yards we gained on the ground, unfortunately Don Meredith picked apart our secondary to the tune of 36/46 421 yards because we couldn't control the clock enough, to say we have secondary issues is an understatement but with no help out right now we will make do with what we have. DE Wayne Anderson is tied for third in the league in sacks with ten and our other DE Carmen Cavalli is right behind him with 9.5. We have lost four games by three points each, twelve points is the difference between 2-9 and 6-5. Next up is the Jaguars at 3-8, this is a very winnable game, it just depends on which Oakland team shows up.

Game of the Week: Miami at Carolina
Rookie QB Fran Tarkenton led the Dolphins into Charlotte at .500, both of the teams struggled last year but have seem to be on the right track after coaching changes in the offseason. Carolina's defense has stepped it up big time and has the ability to hold teams to field goals, which is exactly what happened today. Norm Van Brocklin had been a terrific pickup for Carolina, the game manager that a team like the Panthers needs with their defense. Tarkenton threw for over three hundred yards but was not able to get the Dolphins into the end zone and 2nd pick of the 1960 draft Jimmy Johnson returned a fumble forty-six yards to seal the game 17-9.

It wasn't always pretty but this victory was sweet, we beat a team that we should beat and we kept mistakes to a minimum. Kurtz is the player of the game going 21/31 215 yards, two touchdowns and no picks. Wayne Crow carried the brunt of the load on the ground with 22/100. Billy Lott was in uniform but didn't play because we didn't need him. Daquan Campion has gotten over his early season drops and along with Del Shofner have become a potent receiving combo. On the other side of the ball Irving Rayburn had two interceptions and Carmen Cavalli jumped his teammate Wayne Anderson for third place in the league in sacks. We played a complete game today and were able to hold the Jags to 215 total yards. We are on the road next week against the NFC East leading Eagles, it will be a tough fight for us but this team is starting to gel and we look forward to it.

Game of the Week: Indianapolis at San Diego

The experts pegged this game to be high scoring and they were correct, Johnny Unitas threw five touchdown passes, unfortunately for Indianapolis two of them were to San Diego safety Chuck Nutter, who had returns of 97 and 95 yards (this game really loves returns). San Diego's defense totaled three touchdowns on the day and consistently harassed Unitas to the tune of four turnovers. After all of the turnovers Indianapolis still had a chance to tie the game but the fourth turnover sealed the deal and San Diego knocked Indianapolis out of the ranks of the unbeaten 38-31.

Week 9-13 Summary
The AFC will more than likely come down to two teams; Cleveland 11-1 and Indianapolis 11-1. Cleveland is leading the league in points scored and
second in points allowed, their only loss was in week 3 against Indy, who is not quite the juggernaut on offense that they were last year but still impressive. New York and San Diego are leading their respective divisions by two games and San Diego was able to give Indy their first loss of the season, but by all appearances the Browns and Colts look like the teams to beat. In the NFC Green Bay is the cream of the conference at 12-0, second in the league in points scored and third in points allowed. They have suffered some big name injuries, including Bart Starr, but it appears that he will be back for the playoffs. Carolina is 10-2 and leading the NFC in defense. Philadelphia lost their first three games of the year but has rebounded to win nine in a row to lead the East by two points. Arizona has one of the most potent offenses and leads the West by two games. Last years champion 49ers are in danger of not qualifying for the playoffs since they are third in the West.

Week 14
Oakland at Philadelphia(-13)

Oakland Raiders 7 14 0 0 - 21
Philadelphia Eagles 0 3 3 9 - 15
1Q: 03:19 OAK - Gene Prebola 28 pass from Louis Kurtz (Daniel Macon extra point)
2Q: 13:05 PHI - Robert Alves 45 field goal

4Q: 13:02 PHI - Johnathan Lunney 83 pass from Sonny Jurgensen (Robert Alves extra point)
4Q: 02:50 PHI - Safety: Chuck Weber tackled ball carrier in end zone

Louis Kurtz had a spectacular afternoon in Philadelphia, going 20/26 214 as the Raiders built up a huge lead and then hung on to beat the Eagles 21-15. Our offense was clicking right along in the first half but bogged down in the second half. All we could muster was fifty-one yards rushing but the defense held Philly to one touchdown, even though Jurgensen threw the ball all over the field today. Joe Cannavino returned an interception for a 70 yard touchdown (finally we get a pick going our way) and led the way with ten tackles. Cavalli had two sacks and Anderson one, Cavalli is now second in the league and coming up fast. Next week the Chiefs come to Oakland as we finish the season on a three game home stand, it will be nice if we could get out of the cellar.

Game of the Week: San Francisco at Indianapolis
The 49ers would be out of the playoffs if the season ended today but they reminded the league why the are defending world champs as they put a beat down on the Colts. YA Tittle threw three touchdowns and the Niner defense was able to harass Johnny Unitas the entire game, forcing 2 fumbles at critical times. The 49er running attack looked solid as the other team by the bay was able to beat Indy 38-10.

4Q: 01:50 KCY - Jack Spikes 2 pass from Buddy Aldridge (Clem Daniels run for conversion failed)

Another one of those games, Oakland builds up a lead in the first half, we have trouble moving
the ball in the second half even though we mix up the run/pass ratio, another return for a touchdown.
For those keeping track at home that is now the thirteenth return against us for touchdowns. Our
defense played spectacular today, I am going to be looking for secondary help in the draft, I think we
will be drafting a little to low to get at the good quarterbacks this year. Cavalli and Anderson added
two more sacks to their totals, Cavalli is a half sack back for the league lead. Next week the Giants
come to town, they are playing .500 ball and should be a good game.

Game of the Week: Green Bay at Detroit
For the second time this year these two match up for game of the week but this time it was a much different
scene at Tiger Stadium. Green Bay was missing its All Pro QB Bart Starr and couldn't get on track. Dan Lewis
and Dick LeBeau contributed touchdowns and Jim Martin added three field goals as the Lions gave the Packers
their first loss of the season 23-0.

We jumped out quick against the Giants with three field goals in our first four possessions, the problem was we were kicking field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. Louis Kurtz suffered a sprained ankle and had to leave the game for a bit and when Tom Flores came in the rust was obvious. The Giants decided to make Flores beat the and he was not up to the task. New York held us to 101 yards rushing and 17 first downs, our defense wasn't able to keep up with the lack of offensive productivity and that also helped contribute to the rout. New York blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, the fourteenth return against us this year. We had four fumble recoveries but just couldn't convert the turnovers in touchdowns. Carmen Cavalli had another sack and is now tied for the league lead with Lamar Lundy of St. Louis, if Cavalli doesn't get named All Pro this year its bullcrap. Next up will be our rival Denver, who is playing for a division title.

Game of the Week: Green Bay at Cleveland
Many people in the know think that this was a preview for the 1961 Championship, Green Bay better hope some things change in a few weeks if that is the case. Green Bay managed to keep the game close for a half but the Browns scored early and often. Lou "The Toe" Groza contributed 22 points and Len Dawson threw for over four hundred yards and four touchdowns. Bart Starr and Paul Hornung played valiant and Starr threw a late touchdown to keep it respectable but in the end Cleveland showed why most league experts are picking them to be the AFC rep in the championship as the Browns beat the Packers 46-31.

4Q: 00:06 OAK - Daniel Macon 32 field goal

Woo hoo! We finish the season on a high note! Louis Kurtz finishes 32/43 273 and we find our running game again. Our defense held Denver to 12 yards rushing and allowed nineteen completions. Cavalli didn't manage any sacks and finished second by a half a sack. Wayne Anderson finished sixth with 12 sacks. K Daniel Macon finished the season 25/28 in field goals, making him 49/53 for the last two seasons. We are going to focus on linebackers and secondary for the offseason. By defeating Denver we put Kansas City into the playoffs as winner of the West.

Game of the Week: Baltimore at Pittsburgh
In a must win game for Pittsburgh to make the playoffs it didn't look good for them at halftime when Baltimore had Pittsburgh down 21-7. Brady Keys returned a punt for a touchdown(this game loves returns) and John Henry Johnson scored two touchdowns to give the Steelers the win 28-27 and gain entry into the playoffs.

Off Season To Do List
New staff members-Sparano and Grieco wanted too much money for the performance we were getting from them so we let them walk and Manning was signed to be the Titans head coach so we will be looking for multiple coaches.

Bill Callahan Head Coach-Callahan is an upgrade over Sparano as far as player development, talent, intelligence, play calling interview ability, his only drawback is discipline. Callahan's primary focus is the offensive line.

Scott O'Brien Defensive Coordinator-Player development, intelligence, interview ability are all high. Play calling and scouting are average. Primary focus will be linebackers, one of our weak spots.

Scott Benson Asst Coach-Player development and scouting ability are high, primary focus will be our other weak spot the secondary.

Darren Krein Strength Coach-upgrade over Grieco at half the price.

Free Agency-Our biggest interest was in safeties and linebackers which were few and far between. This class was pretty weak in general so we only went after one player.

FS Bobby Freeman 35/35-29 year old former 3rd round pick from Auburn, should help shore up our pass defense and will installed as a starter week 1.

We really liked Bobby Hunt but Gabriel was the quarterback we coveted all along, we tried with Cincinnati to get the 7th spot but they didn't like any package we put together. I was surprised with New Orleans pick of Ike Lassiter, defensive end wasn't even in their top three needs. Merlin Olsen falling to 8 was a surprise, my scouts had him as the fourth ranked player in the draft but it wasn't a position of need for us. We tried to get back into the tail end of the first round so we could go after Nick Buoniconti but the Dolphins grabbed him before we could.

QB Roman Gabriel (North Carolina St)
18/64 21 years old 6'4" 225. Right now his only low mark is Rush Sense, all other phases are high. 62 Volatility and 28% developed, we may have just found our quarterback for the next 12-14 years.
