Maybe your start key (above) could be a press-and-hold to cycle through levels/options, to satisfy those who want that?

Then you could have only 3-4 time keys (something like the above) and the multi-function start key?

I still think I prefer the add-time-and-start option for the handful of time keys, but if folks oppose that, this would be another way to eschew a key.

I've, personally, never used the lower power settings on my microwave. Maybe I am missing a whole world of awesome cooking by not doing that, but in any event, I am happy to lose those on a "not for the gourmet" theory.

My mom, in contrast, uses different power levels for various things. But this product would not really be marketed to her. She likes a microwave with lots of functionality. That's fine.

But if you are asking me to focus on minimal buttons and ease of use, I am not even going to bother with the different power levels or multi-function buttons.

My start/stop button is also allowing me to set up time by rotating it. I prertty much like my "one button" does it all.

The breakfast sandwich I bought last week have me cooking them for 1:30 on 30% power and 65 s on full power. Add more time for lower wattage microwaves...

Does it make it taste better or have better texture than blasting it on full power for 1m 30s...dont know.

If the item you are cooking is the kind of thing that will taste significantly different using various power settings on your microwave I'd argue you might just want to use a normal oven.

I agree with that. I am on the road though, the hotel room doesn't have an oven.

I do rice in mine sometimes and the recipe is like 10 minutes at full, 15 at 50% and it turns out pretty damn good for boxed rice. I do remember the first real microwave we got when i was a kid and it had all these complex recipes for how to do pot roast, etc. I wish i could find that cookbook at my mom's as I guess it'd be hilarious what they were suggesting.

So my take on this thread is that standard microwave buttons are too small for Quik to operate, so he needs to boil them down to maybe four really big ones for his HUGE HULK SMASH HANDS.

I'm now picturing a microwave operated by Simon buttons.

So who won this contest? What did they win, a microwave? Or, just a handful of buttons...?

This thread isn't over!

Last night, I remembered that we use our microwave as a timer a lot. I don't know if that makes us freaks. But, in any event, I would want my microwave to have a timer w/o cooking option. So I would make my start button one that cooked with power if you press it and one that just starts a timer if you press-n-hold it.

ALL TIME GREAT INNOVATIONS IN BUTTON ECONOMY

Remote-controlled car: two buttons, forward and reverse-with-turn

Alarm clock, to set time: two buttons, fast forward and slow reverse
