TCY - Bowling Green Dynasty

I have tried dynasty reports before, but have gone in to much depth for my taste and they have all died out. I will try and to keep this report rather succint to try and keep myself motivated to continue it. Anyway, I chose Bowling Green because I wanted something of a challenge and my cousin goes there. I will stick around for at least 5-10 years before I look to move on to another jobs. Here are the initial settings:

Coach Name: Adam Wright
Difficulty Level: All-Star
Game Options: Default
State containing Solecismic Eight: Alaska

Staff:

Syndicate Coordinator: Leo Garret is just plain lousy. This will be his last year at BGU.

Defensive Coordinator: Glen House has decent developmental skills, but is poor in every other area. This will also be his last year at BGU.

Offensive Coordinator: Marshall Huntley is marginal at best. I will be looking for an upgrade.

Head Scout: William Tobar is a superb scout. He is getting older, but will have a job at BGU as long as he wants.

The rest of the scouts are a mixed bag: some good and some bad. The scouting staff will get a significant upgrade next offseason.

Up next, the 2003-2004 BGU Falcons!

Offense

Player # Pos Elig Current Estimate Future Estimate
Gerhardt, D.J. 1 QB Sr 35 35
Garrett, Rex 6 QB Jr* 24 39
Fitzpatrick, R.J. 19 QB Fr 14 48
Bradley, Craig 8 QB* So* 11 56

Despite what my scout says (his one weakness is QB), Fitzpatrick is clearly the best option and gets the start as a true freshman.
He should turn into a solid starter down the road. He will be backed up by Gerhardt and Garret. Gerhardt is a solid backup for
the MAC.

McKenzie, Isaac 36 RB Sr 28 44
Rehberg, Jerald 41 RB Jr 27 34
Rivers, Alonzo 34 RB Jr 24 24
Dotson, Monty 35 RB* So 22 39
Palmer, Dwayne 28 RB* Fr 17 51
Zgonina, Brenden 23 RB* Fr 14 43

Rehberg is the best RB and will get the bulk of the carries. There is not a huge dropoff to Rivers, who will be his primary backup.
McKenzie might tote the ball here and there.

Fredrickson, Rod 43 FB So 24 57
Greer, Danny 40 FB Fr 24 42
Drake, Ron 46 FB Fr 18 31

Fredrickson is rock solid and one of the better players on my team. He gets the start and should be good for years to come. Drake
is the backup, with the talented but underdeveloped Greer getting a redshirt.

Flannery, Teddy 81 TE Sr 45 45
Hodges, Hunter 84 TE Sr* 31 33
Bush, Mickey 89 TE Sr* 27 44
Severson, Oscar 87 TE Sr 27 27
Jay, Shawn 80 TE Sr 25 37

Flannery is probably the best TE in the MAC. He gets the start and I expect big things in his senior season. He is ably backed up by
Bush and Hodges. TE is a major need in recruiting next season, with 3 TEs slated to graduate.

Gibson, J.T. 4 WR Sr 56 59
Bessette, Tito 9 WR Jr 52 64
Baker, Tyrone 2 WR Sr 33 33
Kinsella, Lenny 3 WR Jr 31 31
Schulz, Sammie 85 WR Jr 31 31
Shea, Kenyon 88 WR Sr 28 37
Roland, Glenn 7 WR So 19 27
Greene, Carlos 82 WR So* 16 26

Bessette is the best player on my team, and should wreck havoc if Fitzpatrick can get him the ball. Gibson is a talented possession receiver
who complements Bessette well. Baker and Kinsella provide solid depth.

Bruener, Wendell 59 C So* 14 57
Holliday, Vincent 53 C So* 13 43

Two talented if underdeveloped pivots. Bruener gets the starting nod based both on potential and current ability.

Schwartz, Matthew 67 G Sr* 33 49
Goel, Deron 77 G Sr* 22 35
Jalbert, Erik 75 G So* 16 28
Diaz, Cory 73 G So* 10 66

The two solid redshirt-seniors get the starting nod, while Diaz shows good potential as the primary backup.

Hobgood-Chittick, Rick 71 T Jr 49 50
Downs, Harvey 65 T Sr* 42 45
Van Brocklin, Terrance 74 T Fr 21 52
Hudson, Harold 60 T* Fr 8 23

An area of strength. Downs gets the nod at LT since he is more adept at pass blocking and Hobgood-Chittick starts at RT. Van Brocklin
shows good potential.

I am using the I-Formation and will slightly favor a short to intermediate passing attack due to the talent I have at wideout and TE.

Defense

Riddols, Keith 90 DE Sr* 31 32
Nieves, Rodney 96 DE Sr* 29 29
Shin, Clyde 76 DE So* 24 61
Drummond, Shane 98 DE* Jr* 17 42
Stewart, Roosevelt 79 DE* Fr 9 12

Redshirt seniors Riddols and Nieves get the start. Drummond shows good potential and will be the primary backup.

Carrico, Ricky 72 DT Sr 46 46
Fox, Tyrell 92 DT Jr* 40 45
Hernandez, Freddie 95 DT So* 15 51
Foreman, Desmond 91 DT So* 13 65

Another area of strength, as both Carrico and Fox look to be very strong players. Fox in particular looks like he has the potential
to be a dominating force. Hernandez shows good potential and will be the primary backup.

Wheeler, Seth 55 ILB So 26 46
Flowers, J.B. 56 ILB Jr* 16 27
Bueter, Morris 94 ILB* So 13 38
Irons, Scottie 97 ILB* Jr* 13 32
Andrus, Britt 52 ILB* Jr 12 26

Wheeler is clearly the starter and, combined with the presence of Carrico and Fox, should make running up the middle tough against BGU. Flowers is
a solid backup.

Durham, Phil 45 OLB Sr* 35 47
Dawson, Mario 50 OLB Jr 26 26
Holcomb, Levon 99 OLB So 18 56
Wilkerson, Kyle 44 OLB Jr* 12 49
Hofmann, Vincent 54 OLB* So* 7 18

Durham gets the nod at SLB, while Wilkerson, who shows dynamic potential is the WLB. Dawson provides solid depth.

Zook, Roderick 33 CB Sr 39 39
Berry, Brant 47 CB Sr 33 50
Cornell, Lewis 42 CB Sr 23 39
Laney, Todd 39 CB* Fr 10 43
Bauer, Ian 20 CB* Fr 9 12
Lucas, Dominic 49 CB* Fr 7 19

Zook and Berry are the starters and should be solid. Lewis and Laney get redshirts to try and counteract the impending exodus of CBs.

Watson, Dusty 21 S Sr 27 42
Daniels, Ron 32 S Sr 26 26
Prescott, Austin 38 S Sr* 16 20
Whiting, Marc 31 S* Fr 9 45

Watson and Daniels are the starters. Prescott is a solid backup. Clearly, a recruiting need.

I will be running the 4-3 defense, since the strength of the defense is clearly on the D-Line. I will probably switch to the 46 against teams that
show a marked propensity for running the ball.

And now, on to the 2003 season!

Week 1 Preview

Youngstown at Bowling Green (-9)

This should be an easy game for the Falcons. While Youngstown boasts a solid pair of safeties and a good center, they have little other talent. Look for the Falcons to use the 46 defense to put a lot of pressure on Youngstown's inept line. Also, look for Rehberg to get more carries then usual, as the Falcons O-Line has a clear advantadge over Youngstown's D-Line.

Prediction: Bowling Green 31 - Youngstown 10

Week 1

Youngstown 13 at Bowling Green 38

A great game to start the season! In a game that never was in doubt, Ryan Fitzpatrick awarded Coach Wright's confidence, going 18/24 for 309 yards, 4 TDs and 0 INTs. As expected, Tito Bessette was Fitzpatrick's favorite target, and Jamal Rehberg had a huge day.

Injury Report

J.B Flowers is questionable with a strained triceps (5 weeks). Backup ILB will probably only play on ST next week.

Recruiting

I only intend to mention prospects commited to BGU. None after Week 1.

Week 2 Preview

#49 Bowling Green (1-0) at Purdue (0-0) (-9)

BGU looks seriously outmatched in this contest. Purdue is lead by super tailback Jim Walsh, who looks like a potential All Big 10 selection. They also boast a solid passing game spearheaded by talented WR Jamal Collins. Fortunately for BGU, Purdue's line is just average. The Falcons will stay in the 46 defense in an attempt to stymie Walsh and hope the Collins does not burn them deep.

Purdue's defense is suprisingly weak for a Big 10 team, and if BGU hopes to have any chance they will need to turn this game into a shootout. The standouts for Purdue are MLB Tommy Walsh and CB Devin Becker, but they have a pretty dismal D-Line in front of them. BGU will emphasize the running game again in an attempt to take advantadge of Purdue's weak DL.

Prediction: Purdue's offense will be too much. Bowling Green 24 at Purdue 41.

Week 2 Review

#49 Bowling Green 14 at Purdue 66

In a game that went much worse then I expected to, the Falcons were absolutely toasted by Purdue. Despite my best efforts, Jim Walsh toasted BGU for 135 yards and 3 TDs on 19 carries. BGU was also toasted through the air to the tune of 374 yards and 6 TDs. There was not really any bright spots on offense either for BGU. Utter and complete domination.

Injury Report

Out: Shane Drummond (2nd String DE), Sprained Shoulder (9 weeks)
Questionable: J.B Flowers (2nd String ILB), Strained Triceps (4 Weeks)
Probable: Britt Andrus (3rd String ILB), Sprained Ankle (2 weeks)

Nothing really bad to report. Drummond's injury is a bit of a downer, as I was looking forward to developing into a starter next season.

Week 3 Preview

Bowling Green (1-1) at South Florida (0-2) (-3)

This is a good matchup between two evenly matched teams. Don't let South Florida's record fool you: they played Alabama tough before getting slaughtered by a good Virginia Tech team.

On offense South Florida appears to be a balanced team, highlighted by the solid play of senior RB Dwight Tate. I will employ a 4-3 defense in order to give my secondary more help after last weeks debacle.

South Florida's defense boasts two solid ends and two solid senior corners, but little else. They are particularly week up the gut. My gameplan will focus heavily on runs up the middle this week.

Prediction: BGU 24 at South Florida 10.

Week 2

Bowling Green 38 at South Florida 30

Bowling Green came up with a huge road win against rival (?) South Florida on the road. Eventhough the Falcons gave up 310 yards rushing (oops on switching to 4-3), their offense provided just enough to stave off South Florida. Ryan Fitzpatrick continued his solid play with 310 yards passing and 5 touchdowns, though he did also throw 3 interceptions. Rehberg lead the way on the ground with 105 yards on 22 carries. Bowling Green now stands at 2-1 and Coach Wright has managed to beat his rival in Year 1!
