The Orville
After the first couple episodes, I wasn't a great fan of the Orville - bad special effects, purposely bad acting, some really bad jokes, and plot-lines that I found of little interest.
Tonight's episode was interesting and different, definitely a change from the first 2 that I saw. Still bad special effects and bad jokes but tonight's plot was darker and "crispier" (you'll have to see the episode). Hope it keeps up. I need more good Sci-Fi and Fantasy TV shows to watch. |

I gave up after trying to watch the first couple. May give it another shot to see.

I really enjoy The Orville, the first 5 eps were pretty fun (the 5th one was really good). I hated this ep (the Krill). Maybe it'll go back to good next week.

Hah, I guess we have completely different tastes.
You are right that the "fun" vs darker theme did seem disjointed to me. I'm not sure it worked for me but it was definitely different from earlier episodes. I think they need to tone down the pilot's jokes, doesn't work for me. |

Thoroughly enjoy the show. Most episodes have worked for me on at least some level.

I watched 3 episodes and I'm struggling to understand its appeal. It's like mediocre TNG fan fiction without much humor or drama and a completely unremarkable cast.

I can't take it seriously at all. I keep seeing people talk on the /r/StarTrek or Twitter how they like it more than Discovery, but I just can't really get immersed in it. Like others have said, it's mostly fan fic at best. I appreciate the Galaxy Quest at times feel to it, but...no way I'd want to watch that week after week.

Love the show. The means they use to hit cultural and societal issues is often brilliant.

An interesting concept that unfortunately was basically the basis for a Black Mirror episode last year (and Community before that). I don't like how they get into trouble in these planets for doing dumb things (really, grinding on a statute when you are told to stay inconspicuous), but I do like the Star-Treky (well, TNG anyways) attempts to figure out a way out of their predicaments without resorting to violence.

A) The link didn't work
B) Saying Star Trek did it (which is what I think the link was about) doesn't excuse something that's dumb

Ok, try two, Justice (episode | Memory Alpha | FANDOM powered by Wikia) , because you know it was REALLY DIFFICULT to infer that there should have been a closing parenthesis.

Strange episode. Trying to be light/funny while dealing with heavy topics doesn't work for me.

Hooray! Orville renewed for another season. Though it also means S1 is only going to be 13 eps long.

This week's episode --
I did like the overall plot on post-apocalyptic world and the cannibal theme, and did think the humor was measured (so overall, much better than the up/down vote episode) but the kids whining was pretty grating. Still struggling here to like it (and too cheap to pay for ST: Discovery). |

I think last nights episode was the best so far. Had mystery, minimal stupid humor, pretty good action, and a nice "break-up" scene.
I had an inkling to part of the ending but not the entire ending and was really entertained. Nothing grated on me which is a first for this series. Hope it continues. Last edited by Edward64 : 11-17-2017 at 07:07 AM. |

This weeks episode on 2D-3D anomaly was pretty good. Some nicely placed humor and multiple story lines. I think this will become a weekly must-see for me

I'm really glad they tamed the stupid humor. It was really too much in the early episodes and they've scaled it way down.

The Pilot was so bad, I couldn't bring myself to watch anymore.

Im enjoying the fact that the episodes are stand alone. I catch it occasionally. And I dont feel like I missed anything.
The last one I saw was the security officers altered reality show. That was a good one. I really enjoyed it.

Season Finale was great.
It felt "rushed" but a great plot. Kinda reminds me to STNG and Picard's dying world/flute episode |

For me the first two were too much low-brow/frat boy humor in it. The third episode was pretty solid (and surprising)

Tried to get into it with the new season, but I just can't suspend reality enough to like it. It's a bit too silly, and not even campy fun like Babylon 5 or Stargate or something.

Thanks for the correction-the voice was familiar, and just seemed like the character he'd play.

Caught the show last night. It was okay but the lesson it was trying to teach was confusing.
I get don't be prejudice against people because they can't help when they were born (or where), and judge people based on their reputation, what they have done etc. But lying to an entire civilization (and the consequences of that lie when they eventually find out) was not the right way to approach it. Find a way to get your people back for sure and then bring in Federation negotiators on all other stuff. I would think First Contact rules say if they don't want the Federation around, the Federation honors that request. |

Tonight's episode was twist where the M-F relationship was the aberration and the prejudices. It was an okay episode.
I did like the other plot in the episode and would love to see them get back together. |

I don't remember that episode but yeah. I wonder if the Orville folks took inspiration from that STNG episode (probably)

I really enjoy this show, but if I really break down the parts, I don't know why. Maybe nostalgia? Because I can't stand the doctor, her kids, or Isaac, and yet there have been several episodes (in very short seasons) that almost exclusively focused on them. It is annoying. Then, they lost my favorite character three episodes in, and replaced her with a lesser shadow.

Watched this week's episode, and its like they have two different writing teams-one to do all the low-brow humor, the other to do the serious sci-fi. They do the serious stuff well but it seems beyond the actors ability, When you cringe watching that part and the humor something isn't working right.
I've thought for a long time that this was the end result for Issac's people, I'll be curious to see if they try to "neuter" him now or this is it for him.

My bet is Isaac comes to the rescue and saves the crew (and continues as a crew member). For his people, maybe blame it on bad programming, solar flare etc. but they become good somehow. |
