Bush heading to Texas

HOUSTON (AP) - Quarterback David Carr agreed to a contract extension with the Houston Texans on Friday, an indication the team might use its No. 1 overall pick in the draft to select Heisman Trophy running back Reggie Bush.

The Texans, who announced the extension in a news release, did not provide details, but called a 2 p.m. news conference to discuss the deal.

Texas quarterback Vince Young, a Houston native, and Bush are considered the top players in the April draft. Young, the Rose Bowl MVP after leading the Longhorns to a last-minute win over USC in the national title game, would seem to be the popular pick, but the Texans apparently are happy with Carr. Carr has started 59 of the 64 games in Houston's four-year history. Last season, he completed 256-of-423 passes with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

It would seem to me that this deal makes the selection of Bush first overall a slam dunk unless they trade the pick.

Yeah, I was going to say it was the only state where his approval rating was above 40%.

It's a good pick, but they need to get some offensive linemen through free agency.

This either cements Bush as going to the Texans, or helps drive up the value of that pick for any team looking to trade up to that spot. I personally still think a trade down, grab Ferguson, sign a couple guys in free agency, then sit back and watch Carr and Davis doing their thing behind an improved line would be the route to go, as you certainly can't complain about the numbers Davis has put up behind their excuse for a line the last two seasons.

But, they likely win by taking Bush as he looks to be a special athlete, or they win by driving up the value of the pick now that teams know they'll need the #1 to get Bush (rather than hoping the two QB's go 1/2). Hope they make the most of this situation however they end up handling it.

Interesting that they don't mention Leinart with them. I still would rather have Leinart than Young.

So true. Without O-Line help, what are the odds that both Carr and Bush make it through the season?

Delivery, content, or both?

It's just that when you have an ok qb and ok rb but pitiful offensive line, the logic of drafting a running back makes perfect sense to me

From what I have been hearing from Senior Bowl week talk, Jay Cutler may have moved ahead of Young with most teams now, and maybe even ahead of Leinart for a few teams.

I don't think Young was ever strongly considered in Houston the way the media tries to make it look.

WHat he said - mainly because I have Domanick Davis in my keeper fantasy league. If Bush goes to Houston, Davis will not be worth spending money as a keeper - I've emailed Gary Kubiak and he's promised to bear this in mind
