This is a win win.

Marshall can help Denver win now, giving them 3 of the top 20 hitters in SLOP right now (the only NL team that can boast that) and the other pitchers were guys who if any of them pans out, it softens the blow of giving up Fioramonti. Given the 3rd playoff spot in the NL is a virtual crapshoot to begin with (ask Lake Tahoe), they could be a possible playoff team depending on how his pitching holds up.

While giving me an elite pitching prospect that if we handle him right, could be useful down the road as Ross gets older, etc.

We were going to have to get rid of Marshall next year anyway (cap reasons) if my team remained intact as it is. I've got his successor already ready, he's bad defensively at third base and really, I just wanted to get something remotely quality in return from him. I didn't have to deal him this year, we had the cap space to do it and I did like the idea of seeing this team with him in the lineup and the other guys I have coming in...but...I liked this deal for both squads.

So we'll see how it pans out.
