I think mine was a Clemson football game when I was about 8 or 9. I remember we sat on the hill on a blanket and wore these huge foam tiger paw hats. I had never seen a crowd like that before and was truly amazed. That was when I became a Clemson fan.

I was like 6 or 7 and it was the Old Cleveland Indians stadium (cant remember the name) I was visiting my grandma in the summer and we went. I remember thinking that the stadium was huge ( looking back now part of that problem was that no one was there as those indians stunk) But I had fun and I sill have the Indians hat she bought me back in my room. Been an Indians and Pirates fan all my life. Im sure that game is a huge reason why I have always liked the Indians.

Can't remember the age very well, it was either a Bruins practice where I got to meet Bobby Orr and get his autograph, or a Red Sox / Orioles game at Fenway that my dad took me and my brothers to. Just not sure which was first.

It was a Quebec Nordiques game when I was maybe 7 or 8. They were in the WHA at the time and I remember that my dad would take us to see the Whalers (the New England Whalers at the time) because Gordie Howe had just signed with them. My sister and I used to call him papy Howe. He was almost 50 when he played for the Whalers.
I remember that we would get to the game early enough to be among the first at our seats in our section and we'd watch the pregame warmup. I also remember that Gordie Howe even flipped us a puck over the board at one of these games. I've long lost that puck but will always remember the memories... FM

Portland Trailblazers vs Seattle Supersonics, Christmas Day 1976 at Memorial Coliseum in Portland. Portland won and would go on to win the NBA title that season. I was 6, and I remember walking to the Coliseum from the parking lot and that Bill Walton, with the big red mop of curly hair and chinstrap beard, looked a lot like my older brother.

Pawtucket Red Sox in 1987 - I remember thinking the park was huge (capacity back then was probably around 6,000). Then the Boston Red Sox in 1988, Bob Stanley was the starting pitcher.

The first sporting even I remember going to was Schoolcraft Eagles High School Football games when I was a tot. I don't remember the specific one, because it was all such a blur.
As far as college goes, I remember being 6 and going to a Western Michigan University football game at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo. It was very cold, and I kept having to go pee, which annoyed my dad. First pro game was Tigers versus Brewers at Tiger Stadium back that same year. I remember a homerun ball got caught a few rows down from me, and that there were a lot of smelly drunks surrounding us. I also remember that the Tigers lost.

My first was the Saints losing to the Bengals in the Superdome in 1984, despite completing a Hail Mary pass right before the half. But my SECOND was the famous Tulane basketball point shaving game against Memphis State, which resulted in the shutdown of Tulane's program for awhile. Four years later, one of the Green Wave players who had been hauled off in cuffs for shaving points taught me a Louisiana history class in 7th grade as part of his community service. Good times. |

Some Reds game I barely remember, I'm sure. I went to a bunch of them in the 80's.

Montreal Expos against the Padres back in the early 80's...our little league team and families piled into a school bus and rode from Ottawa to the Big "O" in Montreal. We did it again the following year to see the Pirates.

I remember going to a California Angels & Detroit Tigers game with my dad...... that got rained out.
I'm guessing the first game we actually made it through was a Philadelphia 76ers & Detroit Pistons game on the Julius Erving retirement tour. |

Twins White Sox in the old Comiskey. 1977. We sat out beyond the left field fence and i couldn't see much of anything until Chet Lemon glided over to catch a fly in foul territory.

HA, na wont be able to do that ever..... I was a fan of both when they sucked, and well at least the Indians have had some success since then, the pirates............... well you know that story Funny you said that, cause when I moved to Baltimore I thought they would be better than the Pirates and i might even get to see some decent baseball. Instead I still get bad baseball with a higher payroll. Ive never been to a game where the entire stadium is full of the other teams fans ( happend this year against Boston) and then gives a standing ovation to Manny for hitting a home run, granted it was the day after his record home run but still, your not playing at home. I cant think of a time that would ever happen in Pittsburgh Last edited by muns : 07-14-2008 at 11:33 AM. |

Cincinnati Reds vs. Montreal Expos, sometime in 1977.
The Reds won 4-3. I don't remember anything about the game except how excited I was when Johnny Bench came up to bat -- he was the only player I'd heard of at that age. |

World Football League. September 1974. Orlando Blazers vs Chicago Fire. Orlando won big. I think I still have the program. I was 7 years old.

It was a Red Sox game. We sat in right field and I couldn't figure out why they were booing Dwight Evans every time he caught a ball, or got up to bat. My parents had to explain that when 30,000 people say "Dewwwwwey", it's sounds like booing.

Seattle Pilots vs. Chicago White Sox at Sicks Stadium in early April 1969. A few weeks shy of seven years old. My dad snagged a foul ball -- the only time that me or anyone I was with at a game has gotten one so far.

I can somewhat vividly remember my grandparents walking me around the upper rim of the Big House at UofM when I was about 2-3 years old, and that's also my earliest memory by like 3 years, for some odd reason.

My parents went to race tracks a lot when I was a kid. Atco (drag races) and Bridgeton (dirt oval). So much so that I can't tell which memory of being at those races is the earliest.
The earliest non-racing sports memory would be a Phillies game when I was 9 or 10. They played the Mets and lost 1-0. The only run was scored in the top of the 1st. |

Elmira Pioneer Red Sox vs the Clippers (rookie league level baseball teams of the Sox and yankees respectively) I might have been 9-10 yrs old, probably younger actually.
First top tier thing I went to was an Oilers @ Bengals game at Riverfront. Had mid-level end zone seats for a 44-10 drubbing of the Oilers. The bengals scored all but 1 TD at the OPPOSITE end of the damned feild. |

The first game I vividly remember is the White Sox versus the Toronto Blue Jay playoff game in 1993 when I was 9. I went to multiple White Sox games before that though. I vaguely remember going to one game in Old Comiskey with my dad and brother. I just don't remember who the White Sox opponent was. That would have been the first game I went too. Since 1990 was the last year they played in Old Comiskey, I would have been 6 years old.

1980 Regular Season game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the NY Mets. I was 5 and fell in love with the game. I went to about 10 regular season games that year with my grandfather. Schmidt, Rose, and Maddox were my favorite players back then.

I like pickup basketball. I also really like pickup football, but have not played in years because you need more people to do it and less people are willing to play it.
I am bad enough at sports that I can only play pickup games. I lack enough skills to have fun in any sort of an organized league. |

I rarely play sports anymore, sadly. I LOVE playing basketball, and the gym I just joined has a couple of courts, but they're always packed and I don't want to get into a pickup game until I've had a chance to find my stroke again.
I've also enjoyed playing softball, though haven't done that in probably four years now. And one of my big regrets in life is having never played organized football...I'm sure I would have loved it.

I usually practice kenpo karate for 2-3 hours a week in the Fall/Winter/Spring (more like one hour a week in Summer) but I wouldn't call it "playing", although I do enjoy it quite a bit.
As far as playing, I got back to playing soccer last year in a "league" where we'd split teams every week. Yeah, call it a "league" cause while we all formally signed up for it, no standings or stats were kept and we didn't even have a referee, so it was basically a bunch of people getting together at a set time every WEdnesday to play pick-up soccer games. Half way through the season I discovered that I didn't enjoy the running as much as I enjoyed kicking the ball, heh. One game, seeing how week in week out nobody wanted to be the keeper, I tried it for the second half of a game. I went and bought myself keeper gloves before the following game and have been the appointed keeper ever since, diveing left and right. It's a bit of a crazy position and I've been learning a bit more every week. People are happy that I'm dedicated to it and they greet me with a "hey keeper". It's fun. I even kicked a ball (with ball in hand) from my goal to the other keeper a couple weeks ago. Was kinda cool... FM
