IR Greatest TV Show Tournament: Round 2, Bloc 1

We're into the second round games now after witnessing some exciting first round action, including seeding upsets by #14 seed Monday Night Football, #13 seed Happy Days, #12 The Office (UK), and #10 ER. (9 over 8 doesn't count here).

Will the Cinderella stories continue or will they bow out? Those are some of the burning questions awaiting us.

We kick off the second set of games with #6 seed Firefly vs #3 seed Family Guy in the Eaglesfan27 Bracket.

Firefly Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #11 seed Alias 50-33

Family Guy Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #14 seed Northern Exposure 67-24

Outlook
A clear-cut easy win for Family Guy here, as Firefly was one of the lowest-scoring winners in the first round against very soft competition. It'll be Peter and the gang rolling over the strangely hot River and co.

In the Izulde region, #5 Band of Brothers takes on #4 seed The Wonder Years

Band of Brothers Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #12 seed Burn Notice 64-22

The Wonder Years Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #13 seed Six Feet Under 78-14

Outlook
Kevin Arnold is one of the biggest superstars in this tournament and he'll singlehandedly carry The Wonder Years past the collective Band of Brothers. This matchup likely won't even be close, as many consider The Wonder Years to be the strongest #4 seed in the entire field.

The Solecismic has #1 seed The Sopranos up against #9 seed Quantum Leap.

The Sopranos Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #16 seed The A-Team 76-26

Quantum Leap Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #8 seed How I Met Your Mother 45-42

Outlook
The Sopranos will squash. Quantum Leap was lucky to get past HIMYM in Round 1, even with a sense of overconfidence rumored to be growing amongst Tony Soprano's boys.

And finally, the Pumpy Tudors, where #10 seed Saturday Night Live seeks to dethrone #2 seed The West Wing.

Saturday Night Live Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #7 seed Buffy the Vampire Slayer 66-29

The West Wing Road Thus Far
Round 1: Defeated #15 seed Mystery Science Theatre 3000 55-48

Outlook
The West Wing had a hard time fending off MST3K in the first round and they're up against another Nostalgia Offense in the second round. That doesn't bode particularly well for their chances, particularly since some observers felt Saturday Night Live would be in for a close one against #7 seed Buffy. Instead, they won with ease. This should be the best matchup of the bloc.

Sweet, March's biggest tournament is back.

Family Guy is so overrated, it's going down soon even if it advances in this round.

Hm... a couple of tough ones for me. I don't like either Seth McFarlane or Joss Whedon. However, I do think West Wing is one of the better shows in the bracket and should advance but Saturday Night Live was woefully underseeded and is a classic in its own right.

Yeah, I see West Wing and SNL as a classic over/under-seeded matchup.

4 super easy ones for me. I loved Quantum Leap but The Sopranos is a no brainer 1 seed IMO and should advance.

I agree but I had to go Family Guy here since the fans essentially saved the show. That was pretty cool. For Firefly, I know fan demand helped get the movie made but Family Guy is now a mainstay.

I know so many people who can non-stop quote the show and yet I'm still trying to watch it and see it being worth even watching. Even fans of the show said it was brought back in lesser quality form.

Interesting. Quantum Leap is giving The Sopranos a strong run for its money and Band of Brothers is faring better than I expected against The Wonder Years.

While I haven't been following this too closely, it looks like older shows have a leg up on newer shows and sitcoms, in general, have been dominating.

I thought Firefly would give Family Guy a better run than it is.

Now closed.

SNL knocks the shit out of The West Wing for a huge seeding upset, but very minor upset according to my take on how I thought the tournament would go.

I'm stunned to see The Sopranos only win by 9, though.

Maybe so, perhaps it will come down to what shows are the least disliked or have the smallest backlash. Something like the West Wing was never going to make it far here despite being a great show.

Band of Brothers lost? The Wonder Years must have been a very important show for the average FOFC-er.

Thanks for the reminder to get this going again tonight.

And yes, the particular demographic here is one that TWY particularly appeals to.

I find it hilarious that Izulde completely ignores these bumps after all he did to promote and set this up. Very disappointed that this will never be completed.

He's basically run into the dynasty writing wall. At first you have boundless energy and creativity but then the work starts to catch up with you and things slow down as it takes more effort to make each new post.

This is still faster than the NBA playoffs though.
