JN6-GBC = Dogleg Left - A Golfer's Dynasty

Hello again. I am very excited about this dynasty! I have been playing Jack Nicklaus 6: Golden Bear Challege by Activision for years now and I have always wanted to start a season that mirrors the PGA Tour. Well now I am going to embark on this journey and take you all with me! Through the magic of the internet and the very creative minds of those people who can create the golf courses for this game, I have been able to amass a realistic PGA and Nationwide Tour schedule. That coupled with the fact that you can enter the names of "real life" golfers, I am ready to begin the 2008 season of the BN-PGA Tour.

Armed with my Excel spreadsheets and my own custom formula for World Golf Ranking I am ready to start. But first let me give you an overview of how this is going to work.

I am running both the PGA and the Nationwide Tours. I will play each tournament on both schedules, on the real courses where applicable, and keep the standings for both World Golf Rankings and the FedEx Cup. The Nationwide Tour will have similar rules to its real life counterpart. Golfers will compete on the NWT for a spot on the BN-PGA Tour, 3 NWT wins in a season means a battlefield promotion to the BN-PGA. Also the bottom 5 golfers on the BN-PGA Tour at season's end will be sent down to the NWT and conversely, the NWT Tour Champion and the top 3 NWT Players will be promoted to the BN-PGA. I will add in rookies when they come in and of course once I get enough 50+ year olds retired I will start the Champions Tour as well.

Okay, I have broken down the golfers on the BN-PGA Tour into 4 groups (Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4). These levels determine the scores each golfer will have for each round, 1 being the best and 4 being the lowest. I will start myself out at a level 2, but the ratings for me don't matter because I actually control my golfer, but the levels also come into play for eligibilty for tournaments which I will discuss a little later.

Okay here are the golfers on the BN-PGA Tour according to levels:
LEVEL 1 (-4 Handicap)
Tiger Woods
Vijay Singh
Phil Mickelson
Jim Furyk
Ernie Els
Sergio Garcia
Davis Love III

LEVEL 2 (-3 Handicap)
Aaron Baddeley
Adam Scott
Chris DiMarco
David Toms
Fred Couples
Geoff Ogilvy
Luke Donald
Justin Leonard
Padraig Harrington
Retief Goosen
Shaun Micheel
Stuart Appleby
Stephen Ames
Bobby Nance (me)

LEVEL 3 (-2 Handicap)
Ben Curtis
Billy Andrade
Camilio Villegas
Chad Campbell
Charles Howell III
Colin Montgomerie
Darren Clarke
David Duval
Fredrik Jacobson
Ian Poulter
Jerry Kelly
Jesper Parnevik
John Daly
Justin Rose
Kenny Perry
KJ Choi
Lee Janzen
Mike Weir
Robert Allenby
Rory Sabbatini
Zach Johnson

LEVEL 1 (-1 Handicap)
Alex Cjeka
Billy Mayfair
Bob Estes
Bob Tway
Brad Faxon
Brian Gay
Briny Baird
Carlos Franco
Chris Riley
Craig Parry
Jason Gore
Jeff Maggert
Joe Durant
Joey Sindelar
John Huston
Jonathan Kaye
Kirk Triplett
Mark Calcavecchia
Mark Hensby
Notah Begay III
Peter Lonard
Rich Beem
Rocco Mediate
Rod Pampling
Ryan Palmer
Shigeki Maruyama
Scott McCarron
Scott Verplank
Steve Elkington
Steve Flesch
Stewart Cink
Ted Purdy
Thomas Bjorn
Tim Herron
Todd Hamilton
Trevor Immelman
Lee Westwood

I divided the golfers into levels for 2 reasons, 1)to have the best golfers IRL be the best golfers in this game, but as you will see the best don't always win! and 2)I have broken the schedule down into different levels of tournaments where there are some tourneys that only the lower levels can compete in in order to allow those golfers to boost their stats.

This is a long post, so I will be back with the Nationwide Tour Golfers, the schedules, and whatever I can think of!

The reason that I am going to run a Nationwide Tour as well is that in JN6GBC, you can only have 40 golfers in each tournament and I have over 75 on the BN-PGA Tour already so some may only get into 5-10 tournamens a year due to their eligiblity and rankings so I thought what better way to have more stats to record than to have a Nationwide Tour.

As I stated before the Top 3 NWT Players plus the NWT Champion will be promoted to the BN-PGA the following year, there is a battlefield promotion as well if an NWT wins 3 tournaments in one year. Each NWT player will have a rating of a -1 Handicap, if a player is demoted from the BN-PGA Tour his rating will be a -2. The ratings are something that I will tweak every off season, some golfer may shine and their ratings may need to be bumped up.

Okay here is a list of the Nationwide Tour Players -
right now all are -1 Handicap

Arjun Atwal
Arron Oberholser
Bart Bryant

Points Systems Explained

We will be using several different points systems to rank the golfers. I will attempt to explain this, but who knows how much sense it will make.

FedEx Cup Points

No biggie here, just a copycat of the actual FedEx Points standing. Events are weighted based on Majors, WGC Events, and alternate events.

World Golf Ranking

I wanted to create my own ranking because I don't really like the FedEx Cup system and I created something called the Payne Stewart Memorial Trophy which I wanted to give to the #1 ranked golfer at the end of the season and this ranking system is the way to get that accomplished. The BN-WG Rankings are a year long process, meaning that they start on Day 1 and will encompass an entire year. For example, at the Masters 2008, the WG Rankings will be from the event after 2007 Masters up to the event before the 2008 Masters, clear? No? Me either.

Regular Events:
# of players who made the cut (divided by) golfer's finish (multiplied by) .70
i.e: 25 players make the cut and I finish 3rd = 5.83 points

WGC Events:
# of players who made the cut (divided by) golfer's finish (multiplied by) .75
i.e: 25 players make the cut and I finish 3rd = 6.25 points

Majors, TOUR, and PLAYERS:
# of players who made the cut (divided by) golfer's finish (multiplied by) .90
i.e: 25 players make the cut and I finish 3rd = 7.50 points

Events after the TOUR Championship:
# of players who made the cut (divided by) golfer's finish (multiplied by) .35
i.e: 25 players make the cut and I finish 3rd = 2.92 points

I hope this creates a realistic view of who the best golfer's really are.

**Also, players who made the cut in an event are automatically qualified for that event next year unless they have retired or been demoted.

Mickelson wins Mercedes by 3, starts off 2008 with a bang!

Aloha, and welcome to Kapalua on the island of Maui. Hawaii is a terrific place to spend January! We're here at the Plantation Course to kick off the BN-PGA Tour 2008 season with the Mercedes Benz Championship. This tournament is like an all-star event because the field is made of winners from last year's Tour and previous winners of this event. This is the 10th anniversary of this tournament calling Hawaii home and every year the weather gets better and better and the golf does too!

Phil Mickelson shot four sub 70 rounds, including a 64 on Friday to defeat Jim Furyk by 3 strokes. It turned into the Mickelson/Furyk show on Sunday as the duo was paired up and increased the distance between themselves and the rest of the field. Furyk had a shot to make it interesting, but his 69 wasn't low enough to take out Mickelson, who shot a 65 on the final day. With the pins set at the #5 position, Mickelson took dead aim and scored a victory in the opening event of 2008 and earned those key 4,500 FedEx Cup Points in the process. Oh yeah, he also gets a new Mercedes and a check for over $1 million. Not bad for a week's work!

Up next, the BN-PGA Tour stays in paradise as they head to Kanohe, Hawaii and Ko'oalu Golf Club for the Sony Open in Hawaii.

What a monster. Ko'olau is billed as the toughest course in the nation from the back tees and it lived up to its name. There were only two rounds under 70 all week and none of the golfers ended the 4-day tournament on Oahu under par. Joe Durant shot a final round 75, but even Kirk Triplett's 69 wasn't enough to close the gap any closer than 2 strokes. This was the first regular tournament of the season with a cut after Round 2 and several golfers couldn't keep their scores low enough to play the weekend. Included in those unfortuante golfers, was BN-PGA Tour rookie Bobby Nance, who after Round 1 was a shot off the lead, but struggled mightily on Friday to an 83 and missed the cut by 2.

Next week the Tour heads to sunny Southern California and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. The stars will be on hand to watch some of the BN-PGA's finest tee it up at one of the most entertaining tournaments of the year, see you there!

Bob Hope Chrysler Classsic

Furyk wins the Hope by 2 over Davis Love III

The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour since 1960. It attracts the biggest names in golf, movies, music, and sports. This year's event was hosted again by George Lopez and for 5 days in the smooth Southern California air, the fans were entertained on and off the course.

The Hope is a rarity on tour because it is a five day event with the cut coming after the fourth round. The courses in the rotation are: PGA West Palmer and Stadium Courses, Cypress Point, and Carmel Point West.

Furyk follows his second place at the Mercedes with a win and huge payday and a big chunk of FedEx points. It seems that the top guys are going to make this season a hard one for the rest of the field.

The BN-PGA Tour heads south to sunny San Diego and the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, which will also host the 2008 U.S. Open. Once again this is a top level event so only the best will be teeing it up. Be sure to check out the Nationwide Tour as it kicks off next week!

I love this game. Properly spend more time building courses then actually playing games. Forgot all about it when it didn’t work on my (then) new machine with Windows XP.

I will follow this dynasty and cheer on Dane Thomas Björn.

Nationwide Tour KICKS Off and Kuchar Grabs Win at Dorado

The Nationwide Tour kicked off its 2008 season from the Caribbean for the 2008 Movistar Panama Championship from the Dorado Beach Resort in lovely Puerto Rico.

Matt Kuchar earned his second career Nationwide Tour title, by beating Arjun Atwal by 3 strokes. The field was pretty closely bunched in this one with over half the field shooting Even or Under Par scores for the tournament.

The NWT, will head west, or east, depending on how you see it to Australia and the Jacob's Creek Open from Baroon Creek.

Rookie Wins at Torrey Pines, Keeps Veterans at Bay

In what might be the upset of the year, BN-PGA Tour Rookie Bobby Nance shot a 64 on Saturday and a 67 on Sunday to capture his first tournament win by 3 strokes over Ernie Els. Torrey Pines, which will host this year's U.S. Open, has seen a lot in its 40 years of hosting the PGA Tour, but this was a magical day for anyone involved. While stars like Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh struggled all week long, Nance, who shot a 79 on Friday, weathered the storm and came out on top. With this win Nance has reached #3 in the W.G.R and #4 in the FedEx Cup Points. This means of course that I am now exempt on the BN-PGA Tour through 2009 so no matter how crappy I play I won't be sent down to the NWT!!!

The Tour heads east to Arizona and the TPC Scottsdale for the FBR Open. Can the rookie win 2 in a row? Or will the big names take back the spotlight?

Please stay tuned for an important annoucement regarding the Champions Tour.

BN-PGA Tour announces addition of Champions Tour

In a move that wasn't a total shock to the golf world, the BN-PGA Tour announced today that it will run and report all Champions Tour events from 2008 and beyond. The announcement came from the Tour's headquarters in Orlando, FL and had been rumored for a week or so. "When it came down to it, there was so much talent there and so many fan favorites and so much history that it didn't make sense not to include it," stated VP of the BN-PGA Tour Jim Smithermantin. Talent is not something that the Champions Tour will lack and in a few seasons players won't be a problem either, with names like Couples, Perry, and Calcavecchia nearing the big 5-0. Stay tuned for a full rundown of the schedule, the rules, and the roster.

YEAH!!! More golf and stats, who could ask for anything more?

Of course I had to do the Champions Tour, there are too many big names there and it will be fun to see how the golfers progress. I will run the CT much like the real one. The tournaments will be 3 rounds, 4 for Majors, with no cuts. The points system will be the Charles Schwab Points system where the earnings for the Top 10 are 1/1000th for regular events and 1/500th for Majors. The minimum age is 50 and the max is 70. I have decided to do the ratings as follows (as sad as it is we must admit that as we age our golf skills diminish, trust me on this one ): golfers age 50-54 will be at -4 handicap, golfers age 55-59 will be -3, 60-64 are -2, and 65+ will be -1. Once the # of players eligible reaches 40+ I will have a qualifying event before each tournament of the golfers near the bottom of the Schwab Points to see who makes the Tournament. I think that's all there is, but I will let you know if I think of any more. For now here is a list of the golfers who will be competing in the BN-Champions Tour:

50-54 (-4)
Brad Bryant
Eduardo Romero
Peter Jacobsen
Loren Roberts
Scott Simpson
Scott Hoch
Greg Norman
Curtis Strange
Fred Funk
Chip Beck
Seve Ballesteros
Mark O'Meara
Nick Price
Bernhard Langer
Hal Sutton
Joey Sindelar

55-59 (-3)
Tom Watson
Tom Kite
Jim Thorpe
Lanny Wadkins
Tom Purtzer
Bobby Wadkins
Fuzzy Zoeller
Morris Hatalsky
Bruce Lietzke
R.W. Eaks
Ben Crenshaw
Jay Haas
D.A. Weibring
Mark McNulty
Craig Stadler
Jerry Pate

60-64 (-2)
Hale Irwin
Gil Morgan
Johnny Miller
Dana Quigley
Allen Doyle

65+ (-1)
Dave Stockton
Raymond Floyd

Next up I will post the schedule.

The Tour heads back to California for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and it's another big time event for the BN-PGA Tour.

note - since I added the Champions Tour late, I am going to have to run several tournaments in a row in order to have all three tours going at once.

CT - MasterCard Championship at Hualalai

Bryant Takes MasterCard Championship Over Roberts

The Champions Tour kicked off this weekend in lovely Hawaii at Hualalai where Bart Bryant braved the breezy conditions to post a win in the first event of the 2008 season. The MasterCard Championship is an elite tournament in that the field consists of winners of regular Champions Tour events of the last two years and winner of Majors for the past five, so you are beating the best of the best. Bryant ended the weekend at -19 under par to take the win by 4 strokes over Loren Roberts and collect a cool $290,000.

CT - Turtle Bay Championship

Rookie Shows The Veterans He Knows How To Win

Hal Sutton, in his very first Champions Tour event took the veterans of the Tour to school at Konohiki Diamond and got the win at the Turtle Bay Championship. Sutton a former PGA Tour member, Ryder Cup captain, and winner of 2 PLAYERS Championships, is a rookie this year on the Champions Tour, but that didn't stop him from posting a monster -31 under par to take care of business in Hawaii. This was the first full field event of 2008 so it's not like Sutton had easy competition. He beat names like Roberts, O'Meara, Hoch, and Norman to earn a $240,000 payday and a nice chunk of Charles Schwab Cup Points too. The Champions Tour heads back to the mainland next, specifically the Sunshine State and the Allianz Championship.

*editor's note - I changed the setting on the game to make it more challenging for me. Instead of little or no wind, I set the wind at random so I could play in 5 mph breezes or 30 mph gusts, so we'll see what happens.

CT - Allianz Championship

McNulty Defeats Lietzke On 2nd Playoff Hole To Win Allianz

Nothing is better than sudden death golf and when you have two of the Champions Tour's best it's even better. Mark McNulty and Bruce Lietzke were tied after 54 holes so they went to the 10th to see who would take home the Allianz Championship. They both birdied #10, but McNulty nailed a 22 footer on 11 to take the win. The Charles Schwab Cup Points are getting crowded at the top! I will post those after the next tournament, which by the way is the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am from Seminole Golf Club. See you there!

AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

Garcia beats Appleby in a Playoff; takes over #1

Who wouldn't want to spend a weekend playing 72 holes on the Monterrey Peninsula in beautiful California, well Sergio Garcia and Stuart Appleby that's who. They wanted to play 6 extra holes to see who won the 2008 AT&T Pro-Am. This tournament is played over 4 days at some of the world's most breathtaking courses: Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and Poppy Hills and not unlike the Bob Hope, the cut isn't made until after Round 3. Rounds 1-3 were very close with names like Lehman and Sabbatini on top on the leaderboard, but it was Sunday's round at Pebble Beach with mild winds and #4 pins that the stage was set for a showdown between the Aussie and the Spaniard. Garcia birdied #15 to win the playoff over Appleby and with that he now takes over the #1 spot in the World Golf Rankings.

This was the first tournament that I played in where I changed the wind settings and although I didn't win, I did have 1 round under par and I did make the cut, so that is something to be proud of . The Tour heads to Los Angeles and famed Riviera Country Club for next week's Nissan Open.

Aussie Wins Nissan, Grabs #1 at Next Week's Match Play

A block of Sunset Boulevard in sunny Southern California, played host to this week's Nissan Open where Geoff Ogilvy outlasted fellow countryman Stuart Appleby to claim the Nissan Open. Ogilvy, who collected a monster $1.1 million for winning the event, has steadily improved as the year has progressed. From a 24th at the Bob Hope, a 10th place, a 7th, a 5th, and now a win, the 2006 U.S. Open Champion not only moved up the FedEx Cup Points list, but secured himself a number one seed in next week's Accenture Match Play Championship. "Anytime you can get a win on Tour it's great, but Riviera is one of the most storied courses in North America and with this field, I couldn't be happier," said a jubilant Ogilvy. Storied indeed, Riviera Country Club has been host to a PGA event since 1926. Nissan , who has been the title sponsor since 1987, announced earlier in the week that this year's event will be the final one with Nissan as the main sponsor. While Ogilvy, Appleby, rookie Bobby Nance, and Tiger Woods all had great weekends, many notables (Couples, Mickelson, and Furyk) had to sit home a hope they didn't fall to far in the World Golf Rankings. Next week feature two events on the PGA Tour, with the Top 32 players in the World Golf Ranking heading to La Costa for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the rest of the players heading to the Caribbean for the Mayakoba Golf Classic. This upcoming week will be a golf fan's dream!

Match Play - How It Works

The Tour heads to La Costa Resort for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships this week. This is the first of three WGC events on the schedule this season and the difference between a WGC event and many other Tour events is that only the Top 32 players in the World Golf Rankings are eligible. The Match Play is the first and the most unique of these events. It is designed to mimick the NCAA's March Madness and makes the best golfers play their best golf in order to win. The field is set based on WGR points from the season opening tournament in Hawaii through last week's Nissan Open. The #1 seed plays the #32 and so on and so forth. The field is broken into 4 groups of 8 players each, with the highest overall remaining seed playing the lowest overall remaining seed in the semis and the winners of those matches in the finals, there is also a third place match that will be held prior to the championship.

In JN6 GBC you can't run a match play of this magnitude so I've done something a little different. I take the players listed and we simply play a round of golf in tournament conditions. Then I just match the scores. If Phil Mickelson is playing Stephen Ames, and Ames shoots a 68 and Mickelson shoots a 72, Ames wins...simple. If there is a tie, I take the golfers who tied and I set up a "sudden death" round and the tie is resolved that way.

Here's a look at this year's brackets:

Sam Snead Bracket

1) Bobby Nance v 8) Zach Johnson
2) Shaun Micheel v 7) Ian Poulter
3) Retief Goosen v 6) Aaron Baddeley
4) Phil Mickelson v 5) Fred Couples

Nance is the overall #1 seed in the tournament, but got unlucky in the seedings. Assuming he beats Johnson, Nance will have to face the Mickelson/Couples winner, yikes! Mickelson and Couples fell down in the rankings because of their recent struggles on the course.

Gary Player Bracket:
1) Vijay Singh v 8) Rory Sabbatini
2) Chris DiMarco v 7) Adam Scott
3) Padraig Harrington v 6) Mark Hensby
4) Justin Leonard v 5) Joe Durant

Ben Hogan Bracket:
1) Geoff Ogilvy v 8) Mark Calcavecchia
2) Thomas Bjorn v 7) Darren Clarke
3) Tiger Woods v 6) Tom Lehman
4) Stephen Ames v 5) Stuart Appleby

Tiger's 3 seed is an example of how these rankings are askew because of the small number of tournaments, as this Tour progresses and my ranking encompass a full season, the cream will indeed rise to the top.

Bobby Jones Bracket:
1) Sergio Garcia v 8) Kirk Triplett
2) Davis Love III v 7) Rich Beem
3) Ernie Els v 6) KJ Choi
4) Jim Furyk v 5) Steve Flesch

The positive to the lower handicapped players getting lower seeds is that their roads to the finals will be a lot easier. Stay tuned to see who can win the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship!

I always have a problem with this game. The person I am matched up to play always shoots such a crappy round. So if we are paired up on the final day I know I am going to win because he always shoots in the high 70s. How do you get around this issue?

I agree with 100%. No matter what the handicap of the person that I play with, their score is always something like 20 over par. I just set it to "1" in # of players in group and play myself.

Poulter Survives Gusty Wins and Tough Opponents To Earn 1st Career Win
For five days the best golfers on the PGA Tour battled fierce winds and constantly changing conditions and in the end it was Ian Poulter standing alone claiming victory in the 2008 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships, his first career win on the PGA Tour. "This tournament is designed to separate the best from the rest, I can tell you that there are 31 other 'best' golfers here. This was bloody tough," said Ian Poulter during his press conference following his final round win over Sergio Garcia. Poulter's journey to the final was not an easy one, he had to defeat #2 seed Shaun Micheel, then dispatch with Adam Scott and Fred Couples, who defeated the overall #1 seed Bobby Nance in the second round, and then take on Mark Hensby in the semis and followed that up by defeating the lone #1 seed to make it to the finals. As with most tournaments of this type there are some upsets. Overall #1 seed, Bobby Nance, struggled with the high winds on Thursday and lost badly to Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, using his lower seed to his advantage, made it to the semis and ended up 4th, some big names didn't make it out of Round 1, names like Mickelson and Furyk were noticably absent after Thursday's round. Not only does this win earn Poulter a paycheck of $1.05 million, but it also valuts him the #5 in the World Golf Rankings, guarantees him a spot in all 4 majors this year, makes him Tour eligible though next season, but it means that his game is good enough to take on the best in the world.

Begay Triumphs In Puerto Rico

This week marks the first of several weeks on the PGA Tour where they are two events. This week as the Top 32 golfer's in the world battled it out at La Costa, golfers who didn't qualify for the WGC event were 'forced' to head to Puerto Rico for the Mayakoba Classic. This is called an alternate event, but who would turn their nose up at spending a week in beautiful Puerto Rico, being hosted by Chi Chi Rodriguez, and being able to play on one of the most picturesque courses in the Caribbean? I don't know, but it would be a tough call for this writer. Notah Begay III, who has won the Tour before, but has seen struggles recently, got his game back this week and beat out Charles Howell III to take the second annual Mayakoba Golf Classic. Another misconception about this being an alternate event is that the field would be weak, not so. Golfers like Chad Campbell, Luke Donald, and Mike Weir were eager to prove that because they aren't in the top 32 in the World Golf Rankings, they are still forces to be reckoned with. On the injury front, David Toms missed his second straight cut and was complaining again about lower back pain. When asked about it he said that his back had been acting up recently and he had hoped it would work itself out, not he might be forced to take some time off to let his body heal. Stay tuned for any developments on that. This ends what the Tour calls the "West Coast Swing" and means that the Tour heads to Florida and the southeastern US for several tournaments which lead up to the Masters and the Players Championship.

Franco Wins Honda For First PGA Win Since '04
You know if I had it all to do over again I would be a professional golfer. January in Hawaii, the spring in California and Florida, what could be better. After a swing through the west coast and the Caribbean, the PGA Tour headed to the mainland this week and just North of Miami, Florida to Madiera Country Club, the site of this year's Honda Classic. The weather was a factor all weekend long as golfers had to dodge raindrops and once again deal with ferociuos winds for all four rounds. Carlos Franco managed to beat Mother Nature and the field as he ran away with a 6-stroke win over Steve Elkington. The win marks Franco's first PGA win since the 2004 US Bank Championship. The Paraguyan has been a PGA Tour pro since 1986 and has won all over the world, but he says this win feels the best because it means he can still play with the young guns. The Tour remains in Florida for next week's PODS Championship, a warm-up to the Arnold Palmer Invitational in two weeks.

Big Easy Outduels Love for PODS Win
The PGA Tour stayed in the Sunshine State this week, but headed to the West Coast, neat Tampa, for the PODS Championship at Colleton River Plantation. This picturesque course is located just inland from Tampa and will challenge any golfer with it's rolling fairways, water hazards, and undulating greens. What better place to gear up for the tournament at Bay Hill next week? With that in mind, many of the Tour's biggest names teed-off in this one to sharpen their skills and they didn't leave the fans disappointed. The final group on Sunday provided the most fireworks as Ernie Els and Davis Love III battled all day, with Els sinking a birdie putt on 18 to get the win by 1-stroke over DL3. John Daly, after shooting a final round 65, was in the mix as well, but ended up 2-strokes behind Els. This win boosts Els to the top of the World Golf Rankings and the FedEx Cup, but next week's Arnold Palmer Invitational field is based on earnings. Els is comfortably in ranking second to Vijay Singh, but these past two tournaments have allowed other golfers, like Carlos Franco, to break into the Top 40 and secure a spot in one of the Tour's favorite stops.
