When John Somers stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Brooklyn shortstop posted a .326 batting average with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Somers also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .455 on-base percentage.


RL's Best Batter Announced

The Republic League has given Miguel Pérez the Batter of the Month Award.

In April, the Omaha catcher starred with a .312 batting average, 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. Pérez also had 8 walks, posted a .361 on-base percentage and scored 14 times.

Gothams Johnston April's #1 Pitcher

In April, Wynn Johnston tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old.

The young Baltimore starter posted a 5-1 mark and an ERA of 3.38 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 34.2 innings he collected 27 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .238 average.


Tokyo Starter Named RL's Best Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Noah Tremblay still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 26-year-old starter for Tokyo was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 34 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.44 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

Leduc Newcomer April's #1 Rookie

Yi-ping Yei put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In April he chalked up 26 hits, 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs. The Leduc left fielder compiled a .283 average and a .327 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 4 walks.

Youngster Tim Davis emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .321 with 1 home run and 7 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Davis enjoy the limelight.

May's Best CL Hitter is Francisco Peralta

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Francisco Peralta put together a solid offensive month for Apex and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .318 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



Peralta is presently hitting at a .318 pace with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and has scored 45 times.


RL Honors Pérez, Best Hitter in May

Ricardo Pérez hit the baseball with consistency all month long and was voted the Republic League's Batter of the Month for May.

The Atlanta right fielder batted .370 and posted 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also drew 11 walks for a .424 OBP.

This year Pérez is batting .332 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs.

May's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Gauthier

When René Gauthier takes the mound, a Brooklyn victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 0.57 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 47.2 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing batters to a .160 average.

That's why the Brownstones starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

So far this season Gauthier has a 6-1 record, 11 starts, 80.2 innings, 39 strikeouts and a 1.34 ERA.


Estrada Acclaimed Top Pitcher in May

A spectacular May in the Omaha Bees bullpen earned Manny Estrada the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Republic League.

He picked up 8 saves in 11 save opportunities and had 17 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. Estrada racked up 3 wins and 1 loss.

To this point in the year Estrada has put up a 4-2 won-lost mark, made 26 relief appearances and rung up 12 saves. He has a 1.91 ERA and has allowed 21 hits over his 28.1 innings of work, struck out 27 batters and walked 7.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

José Chacón earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Baltimore shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Chacón hit .327 with no home runs, 20 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Chacón is hitting .291 this season with 1 home run, 32 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 60 hits in 206 at-bats.


Davis Earns RL Rookie of Month

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Tim Davis just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old left fielder for Hartford hit .390 with 39 hits, no home runs and 9 RBI. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .417 on-base percentage.

On the year Davis has hit .354 with 1 home run, 16 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

Dethwright Takes Best Bat Trophy in June

William Dethwright battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Dethwright told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Dethwright hit .430 with 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

Dethwright is batting .348 with 7 home runs and 52 RBIs this season.


June's Premier Batter Announced

June was a very productive month for Dennis Raven, and today the Hartford left fielder was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .337 average, 11 home runs, and 28 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

Raven currently has a .283 batting average with 88 hits, 21 homers, 71 RBIs, 57 runs scored and a .357 OBP.

CL Selects Manuel June's Best Starter

As Roberto Manuel hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for June, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Brooklyn once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Manuel put pressure on the Brownstones to keep him around by posting a 5-0 record and an ERA of 1.22 over 44.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 25 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Brooklyn and to every other team in the league.

Checking out his stats for the season, Manuel has racked up 11 wins and 4 losses in 17 starts, 2.79 ERA and struck out 71 batters in 113 innings.


Ann Arbor Starter Selected Best Pitcher

Elliott Addis took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 38-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Ann Arbor last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.51 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 47.2 innings and striking out 18.

This year Addis has a 7-8 record and a 2.80 ERA.

First Baseman Nabs CL Rookie Award

Patrick Blackley's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Napa Valley first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .268 with 5 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Blackley also scored 11 times and drove in 13 runs.

So far this season Blackley is hitting .201 with 8 home runs.

Stan Carter is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Omaha hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .333 average with 32 hits, 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.

Carter is currently hitting at a .278 pace with 3 home runs, 31 RBIs and has scored 41 times.

Baltimore's Rodríguez Snags July Batting Title

Carlos Rodríguez earned July's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .391 average, going 36 for 92 with 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Baltimore clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

Rodríguez on the season is hitting .325 with 24 home runs. His stats include 91 RBIs and 68 runs scored.


Ramírez Wins Best Bat Trophy in July

The Republic League has selected its Hitter of the Month for July and the honor went to José Ramírez, Ann Arbor's fine right fielder.

Ramírez was selected after batting .382, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 22 runs and driving in 22.

In his stats this season, Ramírez has posted a batting average of .258 with 116 hits in 450 at-bats, 21 home runs and 59 RBIs. He has also scored 51 runs, walked 15 times and compiled a .281 OBP.

Brownstones Hurler Named CL's Best Starter

Marc-Olivier Labrecque's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in July, the 31-year-old Brooklyn hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 37 innings, logged an ERA of 0.73 and allowed opponents to hit .098 against him.

For the year Labrecque has compiled a 11-6 record with a 2.41 ERA.


Republic League Premier Pitcher is Rivas

Veteran Manuel Rivas put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Omaha Bees, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Rivas racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.11 ERA over 38.1 innings and striking out 15.

Currently Rivas has a record of 12-4 with 51 strikeouts and 14 walks in 150.1 innings and a 3.29 ERA.

When it came to hitting the baseball, Yi-ping Yei had few peers in the Continental League last month. The gifted left fielder for Leduc tagged opposing pitchers for a .353 average and was voted the Rookie of the Month for July.

Included in his stats were 30 hits, 1 homers, 8 runs scored and 14 RBIs.

Thus far this season Yei is hitting .299 with 3 home runs, 26 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 111 hits in 371 at-bats and has played in 90 games.


Hartford Rookie Hits His Way to RL Honor

Esteban Sánchez put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In July he chalked up 24 hits, 3 home runs and drove in 8 runs. The Hartford second baseman compiled a .242 average and a .299 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 5 walks.

Presently Sánchez is batting .237 with 99 hits and 11 home runs. He has knocked in 41 runs and scored 41 times.

Bujold Grabs CL Top Pitcher Trophy

The Apex Assassins celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Samuel Bujold had been selected as August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month. Bujold's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Bujold said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Bujold tossed 35.2 innings last month, holding opponents to a .208 average while striking out 36 batters. In 5 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 1.01.

This year Bujold has made 27 starts, thrown 187 innings, fanned 170 batters and walked 59. His won-lost record is 12-6 with a 2.65 ERA.

Damn... I thought i would be a second tier team this season so i just autopicked lineups and such. Had i known i wad within a few games of the playoffs I would have put some thought into it! (Of course then I would have finished 40 games back)

Surprised to last as an outside threat for as long as I did. While the offense is pretty good, that pitching is horrid. I guess it all came back down in the end (10 games under .500), but still, better than I thought.

Now if only I could get some pitching. Or develop pitching. Or have pitching just magically drop into my lap.

No kidding, I have 7 or 8 star SPs. One was in the bullpen. Another 5* SP sitting in AAA that's 21 and ready to go, but waiting for the big two to hit FA. Then I'm reloaded again. All those years of....rebuilding paid off. I remember when Eddie took Noblesville to like 7 titles in 9 years. I'm hoping for a similar run (without jinxing it )
