Ping: Poker Players

I think some of you guys will be able to tear up this Rush Poker thing on Full Tilt.

I consider myself average to below average limit player and have destroyed the limit games on it the last two days.

Last night I started with $5 in the .25/.50 game and was up 20 bucks after 35 minutes. I chalked it up to luck and played about 15 minutes this morning and ended up 10 more bucks. A half hour session tonight had me up another 20.

This reminds me of the days of Party Poker when even a fish like me could beat a cash game.

I put $100 in for the hell of it just to try the concept. It's pretty fun and the play is unbelievably poor. A guy just raised me on the river and called my reraise with Ks/Qs on a board of Kh/3h/6h/8c/Jh (I had the Ah/Qh and gladly won a big pot)

The games are really weak.. Made a good amount (over $1300) in a couple of weeks playing mostly .25/.50 NL..

Basically, ultra multi-table ring games. Each hand, you play against a full table of players, but the second you're out of the hand, you immediately bounce to a new table. You play a LOT more hands (because you don't have to wait for every one to play... once you fold, you're done and on to a new table)

Yeah, I'm averaging well over 225 hands an hour. A lot of people say it drives you to ABC type poker, but I'm having success being uber aggressive. Fold the weak garbage out of position and raise in position and you can make some big scores. I had another successful night tonight. The play is really poor right now.

How DOES positioning work? When you fold if you were SB do you automatically become BB and so on around the table?

You are placed in a seat randomly. The person at the table who hasn't been the big blind the longest becomes the big blind and the person on his right is the small blind.

If you had a run of bad luck and kept getting hit with being next to the person who hadn't been the big blind the longest, you could pay more than your fair share of small blinds in the short run. That should even out over time though.

I put my deposit in by check.

You are randomly placed at points around the table. You can go from UTG to the button to the SB to the BB. I havne't been put in the BB 2 times in a row, though I'm sure it can happen. Out of position and get dealt 5/6o? fold and move on.

My strategy has been this:

1) It's six handed. So any two paint cards get a raise if I'm first in, from any position.
2) Any pair raised if first in, small pairs called out of position to set mine.
3) True garbage hands (7-2, 10-3, etc.) folded instantly unless I'm the BB. If I'm the BB, those hands are folded to any raise)

I'm doing the standard raising to get free cards, bluffing on dry boards with a barrel or two and playing my strong hands strong.

And it's just been ridiculously profitable. I haven't went through a losing session yet. And I'm not good. I can imagine some of the sharks I've seen discuss poker on here would rake in some nice money.

Anyone want to do 50 for 50 at Stars so I can get money on FT and try it?

edit: I should say I'd do 55 for 50 for your trouble.

I'll highjack this thread.. but, the folks at ESPN Poker saw a link from Daniel Negraneu on an epic hand that took place at the Pokerstars.net Big Game featuring Phil Hellmuth.

While the analytical poker player in me cringed at what happens to Hellmuth in this hand.. the emotional poker player was rooting for Hellmuth to explode on the spot.

Ahh, on shows like this don't the pros almost root for the amateurs/feel bad when they beat them? Even Phil knows that's huge for that guy, but no big deal for him.

That video was awesome. I can't believe how everyone ganged up on Phil. Even Doyle got a chuckle at Phil's expense. Pretty much hilarious.

Just tried Rush poker for the first time. I like the idea, but who the hell turned on my doomswitch? First 500 hands (in about an hour I think) went REALLY badly.

God. Had 3 or 4 sets, every one of them they check folded. Had 3 or 4 big pairs. Every one of them they flopped sets on me.

$50 stake is now $37.50. Going to have to buy-in short now.

I played today as well, started with $50 and played .25/.50 no limit. Ran it up to about $125 playing 2 tables for about an hour. Then literally 3 hands in a row KK lost to Q8 after the moron called a preflop reraise, a flopped set of sixes lost to 75 on a turned straight and AA lost to A10 on a 4 flush. All big pots, knocked me down to about $20. Dropped down to .10/.25 no limit and ran it up to about $75 where I am at now. I also earned about $15-$20 in rakeback, so that is good.

Argggg - reading Lathum recent post on this thread makes my stomach turn. For about two years I was playing online poker for about 6 hours a night - four tabling .25/.50 NL cash. It was such a grind but I felt like I "needed" to play every night because I was making decent money. I've played some S & G's here in there since but I don't miss the grind.

GL guys!

Wow the Cap NL games on FT are LOL. Rush is a cool idea but it just gives everyone a reason to play tight. I like fat value much better so I'm probably going to stick to the cap NL games. Why doesn't stars have this? Sheesh.

I'm having the opposite experience. People are just reckless in a lot of cases. Especially in the six handed format. Here is a hand from last night:

I have Qs Qd

I'm UTG and raise to .50. Four of the five players call the raise. Only the SB folded.

Flop comes Qc 5s 8d

The BB bets .25. I raise him to .50. Everyone calls.

Turn is 2h

Called to me, I bet, everyone calls.

River is 10s

I bet, everyone calls.

I didn't see any of the others cards, but I'm scratching my head as to how 4 other players stayed in to the end on that hand. I ended up about $25 in forty minutes of play and shut it down. I'll have to try the NL tables.

Finally after about 1300 hands I'm starting to run non-horribly at rush and I'm back to up a couple of buy-ins. Finally seeing some awful play instead of a nit-fest, which is all I saw the first night (probably because every time someone played a hand with me they had monsters, not because they weren't playing anything else).

I do like it in that it is fun and fast. It's about the same as 4 or 5 tabling in terms of speed, which is more than manageable since I often 12+ table 6-max on stars. Apparently you can multi-table rush poker by entering the same rush field multiple times. Might be worth a try, but I want to make sure I am crushing this first.

I am just the opposite. I was running well and have hit a monster downswing where everyone is hitting 2 outers on me in big pots.

The good thing is with seeing so many hands I am generating a good amount of rakeback.

lol sample-size but 7.41 BB/100 through first 1800 hands of rush. With rakeback I'm doin just fine at fulltilt. I miss playing at full tilt because of rakeback. I might move my whole roll over here from stars, but I have a soft spot for stars so dunno.

Rakeback FAQ - Rake Back FAQ

Basically, it is a reward for signing up at a poker room through an affiliate (who gets rewarded for bringing you to the site). It's a way to generate traffic to poker sites.

The end result for you is that you get some of the money that you pay in rake sent back to you (usually at the end of each month). I don't have the greatest rakeback deal, but I get 27% back. Some people get 30+.

I already have a full tilt poker account. They seem to have options for creating a new account. Can I sign up with my current account, or do i need a new one?

No to both. You have to do it when you first sign up. From what I hear, it is a bad idea to try to start a new account so you can rakeback.

BTW, this hand right here is why I often root for Hellmuth (and Matusow). They get treated like shit by other players who don't realize they're just being assholes themselves. I mean, seriously, Tony G is going to lecture Phil on poker etiquette?

The hand itself is amazing and it would normally be fun to see Hellmuth explode after a horrendous beat like that, but everyone at the table (aside from the amateur) acting like assholes kinda takes the fun away from it.

Negreanu slowrolled Obrestad, accused Deeb of going south (and then lied about it), publically made personal attacks against Annie Duke. Who the fuck is he to talk? Why do people let him get away with that shit but then attack Phil?

I ultimately had to stop playing cash games on FTP because they have denied me rakeback on several occasions. There is nothing I can really do about it in their words and I just don't get it.
