García Takes CL's Best Bat Award

José García battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 25-year-old García told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, García hit .384 with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

Edwards Captures RL Batter of Month Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Oscar Edwards put together a solid offensive month for Hammersmith and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .319 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

Contreras Is April's Top Starter

Roberto Contreras took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 25-year-old Assassins starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 27 batters in 45.1 innings and compiled a 1.99 ERA.

Hooligans Starter Wins RL Pitching Award

Phil Vooght's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 30-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 45 in 42 innings, logged an ERA of 2.36 and allowed opponents to hit .224 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Costodio Sves's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Cleveland center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .264 with 4 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Sves also scored 19 times and drove in 15 runs.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Luis Gallegos earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Toronto left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Gallegos hit .341 with 1 home run, 14 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Martínez Takes Home CL Top Batter Award

Hot-hitting center fielder Jesús Martínez of the Noblesville Millers really pounded opposing pitchers in May and collected Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

He hit .337 with 9 home runs and 20 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

For the season Martínez is currently batting .328 with 14 home runs and 33 RBIs. In 54 games he has reached base at a .419 rate and scored 43 runs to date.

Archambault Top Hitter in RL in May

In May, Simon-Pier Archambault swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Colorado catcher batted .352 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Looking at his stats this year, Archambault has compiled a .333 batting average, while hitting 16 home runs and driving in 50 runs. He has played in 54 games and scored 37 runs.

Veteran Tom O'Reilly put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Cleveland Cyclones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

O'Reilly racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.38 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 25.

O'Reilly has a 7-2 season record so far. In 11 starts, he has fanned 41 batters in 73.1 innings with a 2.09 ERA.

May's Starter of the Month Goes to Nava

The Montreal Royals felt very secure when they sent Manny Nava out to the hill last month. The 26-year-old starter went after Republic League hitters with a vengeance and earned May's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 5-0 with a 1.76 ERA as he struck out 27 in 41 innings over 5 starts.

This year Nava has compiled a 8-2 mark with a 1.83 ERA.

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Alfredo Carrasco just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old first baseman for Baltimore hit .297 with 30 hits, 6 home runs and 21 RBI. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .342 on-base percentage.

To date this year Carrasco is batting .265 with 7 home runs.

Great Month for RL Rookie

Youngster Carlos Díaz emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .349 with 3 home runs and 16 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Díaz enjoy the limelight.

This season Díaz has banged out 33 hits in 99 at-bats for a .333 average with 6 home runs. He is getting on base at a .416 pace and his totals also include 26 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

June's Premier Batter Announced

Free agent-to-be Juan Hernández has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month.

In June, the 33-year-old Noblesville first baseman hit .423 with 7 home runs and 23 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Hernández is currently hitting at a .338 pace with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs.

Great June Gets Edwards RL Best Hitter Award

Oscar Edwards of the Hammersmith Hooligans was named the Republic League's best batter for his fine performance in June.

He compiled a .324 batting average and .423 on-base percentage during the month. In 27 games he piled up 36 hits, 6 home runs, 38 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

In 84 games this year Edwards has posted a .273 average and put up these numbers: 22 home runs, 81 RBIs and 61 runs scored.

García Is CL's Best Pitcher in June

Juan García was the anchor in the Cleveland bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for June. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 19.1 innings over 15 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 11 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 0.93 ERA.

For the year García has earned 19 saves, made 42 relief appearances, fanned 36 hitters in 47 innings and posted an ERA of 1.91 and a 5-1 record.

RL's Best Starter is Ruíz

The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Roberto Ruíz of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing June with a superb 4-0 record and a 1.15 ERA.

The Winged Lingerines star made 5 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 39 innings. He struck out 47 and walked 2.

For this year Ruíz has chalked up 8 wins and 5 losses in 17 starts with 121 strikeouts in 124.1 innings and a 2.90 ERA.

King Named CL's Best Rookie

Ray King is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .326 average with 29 hits, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs.

Thus far this year King has hit .290 with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs.

June's Outstanding RL Rookie Announced

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Okura Saito of Ann Arbor. He was singled out as the top-rated rookie for the month of June.

Last month the 24-year-old Winged Lingerines second baseman played in 23 games and hit .321 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and no home runs. Saito also scored 12 times and drove in 11 runs.

Thus far this year Saito has hit .326 with no home runs and 21 RBIs.

July's Best Batter Announced

Luis Cortéz put his mark on the Continental League this July by putting together some award-winning numbers. Cleveland's left fielder took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .311 batting average.

He tacked up 32 hits, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

For the season Cortéz is currently batting .331 with 29 home runs and 87 RBIs. In 108 games he has reached base at a .361 rate and scored 76 runs to date.

RL's Top Hitter Named

The Republic League has made it official -- Ron Norton is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In July, the Hartford left fielder starred with a .363 batting average, 7 home runs and 21 RBIs. Norton also had 1 walk, posted a .375 on-base percentage and scored 18 times.

Looking at his stats this year, Norton has compiled a .268 batting average, while hitting 17 home runs and driving in 69 runs. He has played in 108 games and scored 49 runs.

Millers Ríos Named CL's Best Pitcher

When José Ríos takes the mound, a Noblesville victory is usually the result. That was the the case in July.

That's why he was voted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

Ríos throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 4-0 mark and 2.09 ERA in 5 starts. The Millers star hurler also rung up 18 strikeouts in 38.2 innings.

To date this year, Ríos shows a 10-3 record, 20 starts, 141.1 innings, 67 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA.

Which Republic League hurler dominated in the month of July?
According to the voters who decide the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award, it was Francisco Lucero of the Montreal Royals.

He put together a record of 4-0 with an ERA of 1.98 in 6 starting assignments. In addition, he struck out 31 in 41 innings.

This season Lucero has compiled a 10-4 record with a 2.95 ERA in 22 starts.

Ray King was voted the best newcomer in the Continental League for his solid performance last month.

In July, the Cleveland third baseman posted a .381 average while racking up 32 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

This season in 93 games King is batting .313 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs and has scored 60 times.

Gallegos Wins July's Rookie Award

With July's Republic League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Luis Gallegos has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 26-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .376 batting average, 32 hits, 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

This season Gallegos is batting .315 with 8 home runs.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to García

José García relied on a .398 average to become the Continental League Batter of the Month. He had a good August, going 39 for 98.

He finished with 5 home runs and 29 RBIs, scored 19 runs, and had a .440 on-base percentage.

So far on the season García is hitting .304 with 20 home runs, 93 RBIs and 80 runs scored. He has 125 hits and played in 124 games.

Gutiérrez Earns August's Top Batter Prize in RL

Carlos Gutiérrez, the Montreal right fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .345 batting average with 30 hits, 14 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 24 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month honors for August.

Batting .276 to date, Gutiérrez has 34 home runs and 86 RBIs.

Juan García has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in August and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Cyclones bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 12 strikeouts in 17.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .164 average and posting a 1.56 ERA and a 4-0 record.

Checking out his season stats to date, García has 34 saves in 69 relief appearances with a 10-1 mark and 1.60 ERA. Teams are batting .181 against him.

RL's #1 Starter is James

Whether Andrew James stays in Colorado beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In August the 35-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 5-0 record and and an ERA of 2.09. In 43 innings he struck out 40, surrendered 28 hits, 8 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month.

Up to now James has recorded a record of 14-6. In 28 starts he has fanned 150 batters in 184.2 innings with a 3.12 ERA.

Rookie of the Month Won by Price

The batter wants to "hit 'em where they ain't." And that is just what Mitchell Price did all month long to net the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

In August he slapped 33 hits in 105 at-bats for a .314 batting average. Price also racked up 2 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 16 runs scored.

So far this year Price is batting .266 with 11 home runs.

He had a good August, going 39 for 98. He finished with 5 home runs and 29 RBIs, scored 19 runs, and had a .440 on-base percentage. So far on the season García is hitting .304 with 20 home runs, 93 RBIs and 80 runs scored. He has 125 hits and played in 124 games. Gutiérrez Earns August's Top Batter Prize in RL Friday, September 1st, 2186 Carlos Gutiérrez, the Montreal right fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .345 batting average with 30 hits, 14 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 24 times. That kind of hitting earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month honors for August. And that is just what Mitchell Price did all month long to net the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award. In August he slapped 33 hits in 105 at-bats for a .314 batting average. Price also racked up 2 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 16 runs scored. So far this year Price is batting .266 with 11 home runs. August's Best Rookie Honored by RL Friday, September 1st, 2186 The Republic League Rookie of the Month Award for August goes to José González, the third baseman for Hartford. He took the league by storm, hitting .231 and looks like he might just be a legitimate contender for the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award. González tagged 9 hits in 39 at-bats, including 4 home runs, produced 8 RBIs and scored 9 times. In his season totals, González has 6 home runs, .183 BA, .280 OBP, 23 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
