CL Announces 2121 Top Gloves

Solid defenders can make a difference in the outcome of tight games and tight pennant races. The Slick Fielder Awards for 2121 in the Continental League go to these standout defenders:

These magicians are often taken for granted as the season grinds along, but today they take center stage. The Republic League Slick Fielder Award selections for 2121 are:

Soto Top CL Rookie in 2121

This year's best newcomer has been chosen and the 2121 Continental League Kien-lung Teng Award trophy went to Washington left fielder José Carlos Soto.

It was a season to remember for the 25-year-old Freedom rookie. He wrapped up his first year with a .288 batting average, 36 doubles, 4 triples and 26 home runs. Soto also had 81 RBIs and scored 99 times.


Las Vegas's Cuevas Wins 2121 Newcomer Award

Las Vegas fans have reason to cheer today as center fielder António Cuevas brought home the Republic League Kien-lung Teng Award for 2121.

He put together a .300 batting average on the strength of 200 hits and swatted no home runs. He also racked up 57 RBIs and scored 115 runs, signaling that this might be the beginning of a solid baseball career.

Continental League Top Hurler Announced

The Mauro Morales Award for 2121 has been presented and the Continental League winner is Bill Sawyer of London.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Sawyer. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Bishops star told reporters.

Sawyer excelled with an impressive 18-6 record in 33 starts. In 234 innings he yielded 217 hits and 63 walks, while striking out 221 and compiling a fine 2.50 ERA.


Republic League Top Pitcher Selected

Eliott Pomerleau of the Waikiki Beach Boys might be an old man, but he can still pitch with the best of them. Today the 39-year-old hurler snagged the Republic League Mauro Morales Award honors for his outstanding 2121 performance.

He posted a 3.42 ERA with 20 wins, 7 losses, 198 strikeouts and 27 walks in 229 innings.

Yánez Tops CL Best Batter List

What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2121 Bartolo Liriano Award in the Continental League. It had already been a very special season for Washington's Jesús Yánez, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Jesús Yánez gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .327 as he collected 195 hits, 40 doubles, 6 triples, 38 home runs and 114 RBIs.


RL's Premier Hitter for 2121 Named

There's something special about a guy who can stride up to the plate and put the ball anywhere -- in the stands, off the wall, into the gap, down the third base line. You name the place and Mi-yuan Yap probably put it there on his way to winning the Republic League Bartolo Liriano Award for 2121.

The Maricopa right fielder belted out 214 hits in compiling a .351 batting average and racked up 41 doubles, 6 triples, 30 home runs, 94 RBIs and 135 runs scored.
