Noblesville's Gómez CL #1 Batter in April

When guys like Noblesville's Fabián Gómez win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive April, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 35 hits in 104 at-bats.

The veteran shortstop hit for a .337 batting average and collected 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Conley Takes Best Bat Trophy in April

It was a successful month for Dylan Conley of Ann Arbor. He won the Republic League Best Batter Trophy for April.

Conley batted .337 average, hit 8 home runs, drove in 23 runs, scored 19 times and compiled a .417 on-base percentage.

Millers Reliever Cops Pitching Award

Tom Williams has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Millers bullpen ace collected 5 saves and 16 strikeouts in 18.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .117 average and posting a 0.48 ERA and a 4-0 record.

Steve Hyde has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the Republic League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 7 starts Hyde compiled a 1.19 ERA, putting up a 4-0 record, striking out 41 and tossing 45.1 innings

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Jack Caldwell's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Napa Valley center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .291 with 9 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Caldwell also scored 17 times and drove in 14 runs.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

César Rosário earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Rosário hit .322 with 4 home runs, 9 RBIs and 21 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

CL Best Hitter Award to Brooklyn's Pablo Gómes

Pablo Gómes of the Brooklyn Brownstones stood out in May with a .318 batting average against Continental League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 27-year-old first baseman totaled 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also chipped in 9 walks for a .374 on-base percentage.

This year Gómes is batting .318 with 15 home runs and 36 RBIs.

Oscar Edwards Winner in Republic League

On the heels of a very productive May, Oscar Edwards received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested third baseman hit .388 for the Hammersmith Hooligans and racked up 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

For the year Edwards has hit .309 with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 32 runs.

Cleveland Reliever Named CL #1 Pitcher

In May, the best pitcher in the Continental League was Juan García, thanks to some sensational numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Cleveland relief ace compiled a 2-2 mark and an ERA of 0.47 in 19.1 innings with 17 strikeouts and 8 saves in 8 save opportunities.

To date this season García has 13 saves with a 4-2 mark and 0.44 ERA.

Best Starter Chosen by Republic League

Dave Robison's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in May, the 30-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 19 in 44 innings, logged an ERA of 2.86 and allowed opponents to hit .285 against him.

Checking out his stats for the season, Robison has registered 7 wins and 1 loss in 11 starts, 3.04 ERA and struck out 37 batters in 83 innings.

#1 Continental League Newcomer Named

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Jack Caldwell just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 23-year-old center fielder for Napa Valley hit .280 with 28 hits, 3 home runs and 13 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .351 on-base percentage.

Presently Caldwell is batting .286 with 58 hits and 7 home runs. He has knocked in 27 runs and scored 33 times.

Mitchell Picked May's Best Newcomer
Friday, June 1st, 2187
Youngster Nathan Mitchell emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Montreal deserved the honor, batting .264 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Mitchell enjoy the limelight.

This year Mitchell is hitting .217 with 13 home runs.

CL Honors Cortéz, #1 Batter in June

Luis Cortéz battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 26-year-old Cortéz told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Cortéz hit .393 with 7 home runs, 16 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

This season Cortéz is hitting .342 with 12 home runs.

López Takes RL's Best Bat Trophy

Raúl López of the Omaha Bees stood out in June with a .333 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 24-year-old first baseman totaled 7 home runs, 28 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He also chipped in 10 walks for a .405 on-base percentage.

To date this season López is hitting .318 with 17 home runs.

Napa Valley's Máximo López solidified his position as a fine reliever, claiming the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for June.

Coming in from the bullpen 15 times he accumulated 7 saves and 25 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He had a good month with a 2-0 record and a 1.65 ERA.

Currently López has 20 saves. In 47 relief appearances he has hurled 51.1 innings, struck out 57 and issued 8 walks with a 6-4 record. The Napa Valley reliever has recorded a 1.93 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .228 when he is on the mound.

Flores Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy

The Republic League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Wilson Flores of Hartford Riverhawks, who impressed the voters with a glittering 5-0 record in June.

The Hartford star hurler made 6 starts, allowed 30 hits in 43.2 innings, struck out 23 and had a 2.06 ERA.

This year Flores has compiled a 9-5 record with a 3.28 ERA.

Jack Caldwell is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Napa Valley hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .313 average with 36 hits, 4 home runs and 16 RBIs.

Caldwell is presently hitting at a .296 pace with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and has scored 48 times.

One of the bright young starters in the Republic League, Wilson Flores is living up to the potential that Riverhawks scouts thought might be there.

As a starter for Hartford, Flores paced his team with a 5-0 record in June to earn himself Rookie of the Month accolades.

He made 6 starts, tossed 43.2 innings, struck out 23 batters and allowed the opposition to hit .199 against him.

This season Flores has compiled a 9-5 mark, 3.28 ERA and made 17 starts.

Red-Hot July Lands Gómes Batting Prize in CL

Pablo Gómes has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for July.

In 26 games the Brooklyn batter hit .346 with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Gómes has a .317 average and a .388 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 133 hits, 28 home runs and driven in 67 runs.

Norton Named RL Batter of the Month

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 31-year-old Ron Norton put together a solid offensive month for Hartford and was crowned July's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .387 with 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This year Norton has hit at a .320 clip with 69 RBIs, 18 home runs and 62 runs scored.

Plamondon Best CL Starter in July

Noé Plamondon hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In July the Apex starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 37.2 innings, struck out 30 and compiled a solid 1.19 ERA.

So far this season Plamondon has a record of 11-5 with 103 strikeouts and 14 walks in 138.2 innings and a 2.08 ERA.

Jack Caldwell earned top rookie honors in the Continental League with a solid performance last month.

In July the Napa Valley center fielder posted a .280 average while racking up 26 hits, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.

This year Caldwell has batted at a .292 pace with 120 hits, 13 home runs, 52 RBIs and scored 58 times.

Nathan Mitchell proved to be one of the Republic League's preeminent rookies last month, putting up some sensational numbers to take the Rookie of the Month trophy.

Gómez Takes CL's Best Bat Award

Fabián Gómez received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Noblesville's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Fabián's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Gómez put up a .408 batting average, 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 19 times in August.

This season Gómez has banged out 170 hits in 514 at-bats for a .331 average with 21 home runs. He is getting on base at a .400 pace and his totals also include 90 RBIs and 75 runs scored.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Sun-woo Kal still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in August. The 26-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 30 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 1.93 ERA in 42 innings of work.

So far this season, Kal has logged a 16-7 record with a 2.66 ERA. He has started 34 games, hurled 199.1 innings and registered 144 strikeouts and 31 walks.

Claude Dickey is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for August.

He made no relief appearances for Ann Arbor last month, throwing 44.1 innings and collecting no saves, a 5-0 record, 21 strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA.

So far this year Dickey has been credited with no saves, registered a 5.47 ERA and struck out 85 in 159.2 innings. He also has a 13-9 record.

Last month the 23-year-old Napa Valley center fielder played in 28 games and hit .268 with 7 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Caldwell also scored 11 times and drove in 8 runs.

In the current season, Caldwell has put up a .287 batting average with 150 hits, 15 home runs, 60 RBI and scored 69 runs.

Toronto Newcomer August's Best Rookie

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Rich Henry of Toronto. He was singled out as the top-rated rookie for the month of August.

Last month the 28-year-old Marlboros first baseman played in 23 games and hit .256 with 4 doubles, no triples and 10 home runs. Henry also scored 13 times and drove in 29 runs.

For the season Henry is currently batting .216 with 27 home runs and 94 RBIs. In 114 games he has reached base at a .250 rate and scored 55 runs to date.

Wow. While I still had a handful of pretty productive offensive players, I didn't have anyone whom I thought was a true standout. Even Oscar Edwards has always simply performed better than his ratings suggest, for whatever reason. I really just strung together this lineup after losing two top outfield bats in Vincent and Haas. So I have no idea how they produced enough runs to make it work.

And then there's the pitching. Sure, Lucero was a great addition, but the rest of the staff was the same crappy guys from the previous year, short my top end closer whom I also let go.

I know you guys will say, "Hey, Chief, your team made the playoffs last year, too", but honestly that staff was complete shit even then. I did that through overwhelming offense--much of which I let go in the offseason.

Shrug... if I figured this game out, I would win all the time, lol. I'll take it.

Good luck to the other playoff teams tomorrow.

The young Napa Valley center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .291 with 9 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Caldwell also scored 17 times and drove in 14 runs. RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Tuesday, May 1st, 2187 César Rosário earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. In 47 relief appearances he has hurled 51.1 innings, struck out 57 and issued 8 walks with a 6-4 record. He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In July the Apex starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 37.2 innings, struck out 30 and compiled a solid 1.19 ERA. So far this season Plamondon has a record of 11-5 with 103 strikeouts and 14 walks in 138.2 innings and a 2.08 ERA. Last month the 23-year-old Napa Valley center fielder played in 28 games and hit .268 with 7 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Caldwell also scored 11 times and drove in 8 runs. In the current season, Caldwell has put up a .287 batting average with 150 hits, 15 home runs, 60 RBI and scored 69 runs. While I still had a handful of pretty productive offensive players, I didn't have anyone whom I thought was a true standout. Even Oscar Edwards has always simply performed better than his ratings suggest, for whatever reason. I really just strung together this lineup after losing two top outfield bats in Vincent and Haas. So I have no idea how they produced enough runs to make it work. And then there's the pitching. Sure, Lucero was a great addition, but the rest of the staff was the same crappy guys from the previous year, short my top end closer whom I also let go. I know you guys will say, "Hey, Chief, your team made the playoffs last year, too", but honestly that staff was complete shit even then. I did that through overwhelming offense--much of which I let go in the offseason. Shrug... if I figured this game out, I would win all the time, lol. I'll take it. Good luck to the other playoff teams tomorrow. __________________ . .
