Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

Even on days when they don't get a hit, they feel they can make a difference in the field -- and they do. The Republic League announced its Best Fielder Awards honorees for 2187. This year's recipients are:

CL's Top Rookie Named
Monday, October 29th, 2187
The fine rookie center fielder from Napa Valley, Jack Caldwell, was hailed today as the winner of the 2187 Continental League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

Caldwell finished his freshman season hitting .274 with 20 home runs, 72 RBIs and 80 runs scored.


RL Best Newcomer Named

A fine inaugural season has paid off handsomely for Nathan Mitchell of the Montreal Royals. The 22-year-old topped off his debut year with the 2187 Republic League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

The Royals center fielder took the trophy by hitting .245 in 142 games and finished with 135 hits, 31 home runs, 82 RBIs and 71 runs scored.

Cleveland Ace Cops CL Gabriel Prado Award

The Gabriel Prado Award for 2187 has been presented and the Continental League winner is Sun-woo Kal of Cleveland.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Kal. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Cyclones star told reporters.

Kal excelled with an impressive 18-7 record in 40 starts. In 234.1 innings he yielded 186 hits and 38 walks, while striking out 166 and compiling a fine 2.46 ERA.


Lucero Scores RL Best Hurler Honors

The Hammersmith Hooligans have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Francisco Lucero, this year's Republic League Gabriel Prado Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.

Lucero compiled a 18-6 record in 32 starts, tallied 179 strikeouts in 209.1 innings and recorded a 2.67 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .260 batting average against him.

Pablo Gómes Captures CL Hideaki Tanaka Award

Pablo Gómes has been around Front Office Offseason League enough to know a good hot streak when he sees one -- and he got to see one firsthand all year. For his standout run through the 2187 season, he's taking home the Hideaki Tanaka Award in the Continental League.

The Brooklyn first baseman put up a batting average of .327 with 49 doubles, 1 triple, 34 home runs and 91 RBIs.

The Republic League has made it official -- Raúl López is the winner of the Hideaki Tanaka Award.

In the 2187 season, the Omaha first baseman stood out with a .305 batting average, 35 doubles, 1 triple, 30 home runs and 103 RBIs. López also had 86 walks, posted a .406 on-base percentage and scored 100 times.

Was it Lucero? I did the same thing you did last season (which may seem like it was 2-3 seasons ago, with the break, lol). Lucero was terrific for me last year, and I hope it continues (although his Control dropped to 79, WTF...).

I believe it was Lucero. I wouldn't worry about the drop in control. He's a stud and will continue to be.

With all the high draft picks I used on pitching, and Ruiz, I'm expecting some results pretty soon. Pressure's on!
