Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Chris Perry put together a solid offensive month for Washington and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .321 with 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored.


Miners Named RL Batter of the Month

April's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Ann Arbor shortstop, Toby Miners.

He starred by hitting .380 with a .457 on-base percentage, totaled 38 hits in 100 at-bats, 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

Omaha Starter Named CL's Best Pitcher

Larry Fraser's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 33-year-old Omaha hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 37 in 36.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.23 and allowed opponents to hit .173 against him.


Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in April

Francisco Hernández was the anchor in the Las Vegas bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for April. The 29-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 17 innings over 14 relief appearances and collected a 1-0 record with 20 strikeouts and 11 saves while etching his 1.06 ERA.

Great Month Gets CL Top Rookie Trophy

Javier Ramos of the Alberta Renegades has been selected the top Rookie in the Continental League.

In April he had 11 hits, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, and 7 runs scored. He hit .393 with a .469 OBP.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Mark Kirschner earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Maricopa center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Kirschner hit .291 with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Yamashita

Kiyotaka Yamashita battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Yamashita told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Yamashita hit .430 with 5 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

In 53 games this season Yamashita has compiled a .414 batting average with 84 hits and 11 home runs. He has also scored 47 times and knocked in 53 runs.


RL Honors Underhill, #1 Batter in May

When it came to hitting the baseball, Ben Underhill had few Republic League peers in May. The second baseman for Maricopa mauled opposing pitchers for a .455 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.

He finished with some strong stats: 7 home runs, 28 RBIs, 19 runs scored, 5 walks and a .475 on-base percentage.

Looking at his present stats, Underhill has compiled a .339 batting average in 55 games with a .368 on-base percentage, while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 46 runs.

CL's Top Pitcher in May Is Farley

Veteran Rudy Farley put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Alberta Renegades, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Farley racked up a 3-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.71 ERA over 42 innings and striking out 35.

This year Farley has registered 5 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts with a 3.06 ERA while registering 60 strikeouts and 12 walks in 70.2 innings.


Wildcats Hernández Named RL's Best Pitcher

Francisco Hernández has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Wildcats bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 30 strikeouts in 22.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .163 average and posting a 0.40 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Checking out his season stats to date, Hernández has 17 saves in 29 relief appearances with a 4-0 mark and 0.69 ERA. Teams are batting .182 against him.

May's Best Newcomer Named by CL

Javier Ramos had a good May and has been hailed by the Continental League as the top Newcomer of the Month.

The Alberta rookie right fielder hit .367 while collecting 11 hits and 4 home runs. In addition, Ramos scored 9 runs and drove in 14.

A look at his season totals shows Ramos with 6 home runs, .379 BA, .439 OBP, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Greg Jackson emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Ann Arbor deserved the honor, batting .394 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Jackson enjoy the limelight.

In this current campaign Jackson is hitting at a .317 clip with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Soto CL Outstanding Batter of the Month

June was a very productive month for José Carlos Soto, and today the Washington left fielder was rewarded with the Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .450 average, 7 home runs, and 21 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

This year Soto has hit at a .319 pace and produced 56 RBIs, 17 home runs and scored 49 runs.


RL Top Batter Trophy Won by Phillips

Chris Phillips put his mark on the Republic League this June by putting together some award-winning numbers. Spring's center fielder took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .384 batting average.

He tacked up 33 hits, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

This year Phillips has hit at a .321 clip with 84 hits, 10 home runs, 47 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

Continental League #1 Hurler is Holden

Raymond Holden took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 38-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Omaha last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.27 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 35.2 innings and striking out 31.

This year Holden has posted a 9-1 mark in 16 starts and has a 3.47 ERA.


Sawyer Gets June's Top Pitcher Trophy

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Bill Sawyer still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 26-year-old starter for Maricopa was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 46 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.14 ERA in 46.1 innings of work.

On the season Sawyer has a 9-2 record with a 2.09 ERA.

June's Premier CL Rookie Named

The Continental League Rookie of the Month Award has been given to Roberto Gallardo of the Havana Banana Sluggers.

In June he played in 21 games, recording a .254 batting average with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

This year Gallardo is hitting .225 with 49 hits, 15 home runs, 41 RBIs and has scored 31 runs.


García Picked RL's Premier Rookie

Mario García's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Spring right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .284 with 7 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. García also scored 9 times and drove in 17 runs.

In his season totals, García has 7 home runs, .283 BA, .362 OBP, 45 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has played in 68 games.

Nothing is for certain about the 2124 FOOL-X All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Washington's Chieu Collects July Batting Honor

Tian-bai Chieu really smoked the ball in July on his way to Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

The Washington center fielder hit .367 with 5 home runs, 11 RBIs and 23 runs scored to round out his great month.

For the year Chieu is hitting .248 with 9 home runs. His stats include 33 RBI and 64 runs scored.


Edgar Pérez Winner in July

Edgar Pérez had quite a month with the bat in July and the Ann Arbor left fielder was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .373 with 38 hits, 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He also drew 11 walks to post a .439 on-base percentage.

Pérez is currently batting .279 with 9 home runs and 58 RBIs.

Continental League Announces July's Top Pitcher

The Continental League hitters didn't have a chance in July when the Omaha Bees manager wrote "Fraser" on the lineup card. Outing after outing, Larry Fraser held teams in check and usually got a win.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 1.49 ERA in 5 starts. The talented Bees star pitched 36.1 innings, fanned 29 and held opposing teams to a .185 average.

For his superb mound work Fraser was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

So far this year Fraser has made 21 starts, tossed 141.1 innings, struck out 135 batters and walked 24. His record is 13-5 with a 2.36 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .226 batting average.


July's Top Starter is McDermid

Andy McDermid of the Maricopa Rattlers is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In July he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

McDermid checked opposing batters on 24 base hits and a .183 batting average. He rang up 40 strikeouts in 38 innings of work, surrendered 5 walks and fashioned a 0.95 ERA.

This year McDermid has compiled a 9-7 mark with a 2.93 ERA.

Best CL Rookie Named, Nod to Rodríguez

Sergio Rodríguez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Omaha hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .302 average with 19 hits, 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Looking at his season stats, Rodríguez has compiled a .288 batting average and a .336 on-base percentage, while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 36 runs.



RL Rookie Vote Goes to García

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Mario García just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Over the past month the 25-year-old right fielder for Spring hit .378 with 31 hits, 6 home runs and 15 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .411 on-base percentage.

Currently García is batting .307 with 103 hits and 13 home runs. He has knocked in 60 runs and scored 37 times.

Red-Hot August Lands Soto Batting Prize in CL

Today Washington's José Carlos Soto was named Continental League Batter of the Month for August. He slammed opposing pitching hard all month long, bashing out 35 hits in 99 at-bats.

With a .354 batting average, 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored, he was a solid choice.

To date this year Soto is batting .325 with 27 home runs.


Miners Claims RL Batter of the Month Award

August's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Ann Arbor shortstop, Toby Miners.

He starred by hitting .393 with a .480 on-base percentage, totaled 42 hits in 107 at-bats, no home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

This season in 133 games, Miners has hit at a .335 clip with 169 hits, 4 home runs, 85 RBIs and 94 runs scored.

CL Starter of the Month Goes to Gutiérrez

Last month was a very successful month for Vicente Gutiérrez of London. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Gutiérrez shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out August with an impressive 4-1 mark and 2.05 ERA in 6 starts with 22 strikeouts in 44 innings.

To date this year Gutiérrez has compiled a 10-9 mark with a 3.19 ERA in 27 starts.


Sawyer Is August's Best RL Hurler

It was a monstrous August for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Bill Sawyer of the Maricopa Rattlers. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Sawyer recorded 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 39.2 innings, he yielded 29 hits, mowed down 35 on strikes, gave up 5 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.59 in a stellar month on the mound.

For the year Sawyer has a 18-2 record with a 1.77 ERA in 25 starts.

Cole MacNeill of the Oshawa Mullets has been selected the top Rookie in the Continental League.

In August he had 21 hits, 3 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 13 runs scored. He hit .284 with a .346 OBP.

This year MacNeill is hitting .218 with 7 home runs and 39 RBIs in 116 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .266 with 24 walks and 41 runs scored.

The standout Republic League rookie in August was Portland's first baseman Germán Díaz.

On the heels of a very productive September, Jesús Yánez received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested first baseman hit .355 for the Washington Freedom and racked up 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

This season Yánez has hit at a .292 clip with 121 RBIs, 32 home runs and 119 runs scored.


RL's Best Batter Announced

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Miguel Guerra helped his contract negotiations by nabbing September's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Las Vegas first baseman put together a .373 batting average with 8 home runs, 21 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Guerra continues at this brisk pace.

Guerra is batting .332 this season in 155 games with 35 home runs, 144 RBIs and 127 runs scored. He has 210 hits in 632 at-bats.

CL's #1 Starter is Burns

As Arnold Burns hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for September, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Washington once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Burns put pressure on the Freedom to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 2.65 over 37.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 28 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Washington and to every other team in the league.

This year Burns has fanned 149 in 203 innings and collected a 11-5 record with a 3.77 ERA.


Sawyer Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award

A 5-0 record with a 1.98 ERA is a pretty good month for most any pitcher. The Republic League thought it was worthy of an award and named Bill Sawyer, starter for the Maricopa Rattlers, September's Pitcher of the Month.

He also held the opposition to a .208 average while posting 42 strikeouts in 50 innings.

So far this season Sawyer has a 23-2 record, 31 starts, 248.2 innings, 236 strikeouts and a 1.81 ERA.

September's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star

One of the Continental League's brightest newcomers, Doug Tishler was at the head of his class in September as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 24-year-old Havana right fielder batted .323 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.

So far this season Tishler has hit .217 with 6 home runs, 41 RBIs and and scored 84 times.


Valdéz Gets RL Rookie of Month Honors

Ernesto Valdéz made a name for himself in the Republic League in September. The talented right fielder for Cleveland compiled a .379 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 39-103 in 24 games with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Valdéz on the season is batting .285 with 22 home runs. His totals include 66 RBIs and 82 runs scored. He has played in 130 games.

Weird season for the Hibbies. I thought for sure we would suck, and for most of the season we did. Then we strangely got better and finished, pointlessly, over .500 and in 3rd place. Lol... no idea why.
