Gómez Cops CL Batter of the Month Honors

Fabián Gómez battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Gómez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Gómez hit .378 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 19 runs.


Tokyo Second Baseman RL's Best Batter in April

In April, Jesús Pérez snapped up the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 38 hits and popping 5 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .339 with 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored. The Tokyo second baseman also picked up 14 walks to compile a .422 on-base percentage.

Leduc Starter Selected Best Pitcher

Juan Colón took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 23-year-old Bullets starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 6-0 won-lost record in 6 starts. This month he fanned 37 batters in 41 innings and compiled a 1.98 ERA.

Rivelino Piane is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 13 relief appearances for Colorado last month, throwing 14 innings and collecting 9 saves, a 1-0 record, 9 strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA.

Youngster Roberto Molina emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .245 with 1 home run and 4 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Molina enjoy the limelight.

Noblesville's Martínez Bags CL Batting Award

It was a successful month for Jesús Martínez of Noblesville. He won the Continental League Best Batter Trophy for May.

Martínez batted .375 average, hit 8 home runs, drove in 23 runs, scored 24 times and compiled a .441 on-base percentage.

This year Martínez is hitting .326 with 13 home runs.


Great May Gets Rivera RL Best Hitter Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Ramón Rivera put together a solid offensive month for Toronto and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .402 with 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored.



So far this season Rivera has gotten 82 hits in 226 at-bats for a .363 batting average with 10 home runs. His stats include 44 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has played in 57 games.

James May's Best Hurler in CL

Andrew James nailed down May's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Apex to get a deal done before the 36-year-old becomes a free agent.

James seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-0 record, reeled off 25 strikeouts, worked 43.1 innings and held batters to a .227 average for the month as he posted a 1.66 ERA.

On the year James has compiled a 5-1 mark with a 2.25 ERA.


Republic League Picks Best Starter in May

Tomás Rodríguez took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Colorado last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.51 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 35.2 innings and striking out 27.

Up to now Rodríguez has recorded a record of 7-1. In 11 starts he has fanned 51 batters in 71.1 innings with a 2.40 ERA.

Molina Heads the Rookie Class

Roberto Molina's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Noblesville second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .167 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Molina also scored 11 times and drove in 6 runs.

So far this season Molina is batting .205 with 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 43 hits in 210 at-bats, 15 walks and a .294 OBP. Molina has played in 56 games.

Ernesto Valenzuela earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Toronto second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Red-Hot June Lands Martínez Batting Prize in CL

June's Batter of the Month has been announced by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Noblesville center fielder, Jesús Martínez.

He starred by hitting .375 with a .423 on-base percentage, totaled 42 hits in 112 at-bats, 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

To date, Martínez has collected 112 hits for a .343 average. He has posted 22 home runs, scored 70 runs and driven in 64 runs.


RL Choice for Batter of the Month is Bruno

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and António Bruno is no exception. The Tokyo catcher capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

In June Bruno hit .369 with 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

So far this season Bruno has hit .297 with 21 home runs, 53 RBIs and and scored 59 times.

O'Reilly Nets CL #1 Pitcher Award

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Tom O'Reilly still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 30-year-old starter for Cleveland was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 34 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 0.86 ERA in 41.2 innings of work.

On his stats sheet this season O'Reilly shows a 9-2 record, 20 starts, 117.1 innings, 84 strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA.


Lucero Picks up RL Monthly Pitching Honor

Veteran Francisco Lucero put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Hammersmith Hooligans, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Lucero racked up a 6-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.14 ERA over 42 innings and striking out 38.

To date Lucero is 9-3 in 17 starts with a 2.85 ERA and has 109 strikeouts in 117 innings.

Roberto Molina is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Noblesville hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .243 average with 25 hits, 1 home run and 7 RBIs.

Presently Molina is hitting .217 with 2 home runs and 17 RBIs. He has played in 83 games and scored 42 times.

In the current season, Casillas has put up a .320 batting average with 81 hits, 6 home runs, 31 runs batted in and scored 37 runs.

Tim Mason Selected July's Best Batter

Tim Mason of the Cleveland Cyclones recorded a .273 batting average in July. His hitting spree racked up the Continental League Batter of the Month award for his trophy case.

The Cleveland third baseman battered opposing pitchers all month, accumulating 11 home runs, 20 RBIs and scoring 23 runs.

So far this season Mason has gotten 110 hits in 403 at-bats for a .273 batting average with 29 home runs. His stats include 78 RBIs and 78 runs scored. He has played in 108 games.


Colorado's Archambault Top RL Batter in July

For the month of July, Simon-Pier Archambault of the Colorado Rancheros has really worn out the sweet spot on his bat. He has assaulted, used and abused Republic League pitchers to the tune of a .310 batting average and was honored as the hottest hitter of the month today.

Archambault went 35 for 113 last month with 9 walks. The catcher tallied 7 home runs, 32 RBIs, 18 runs scored and compiled a .362 on-base percentage.

So far this season Archambault is batting .313 with 24 home runs, 94 RBIs and 73 runs scored. He has 137 hits in 438 at-bats, 36 walks and a .371 OBP. Archambault has played in 105 games.

Continental League #1 Hurler is Morales

When Noblesville reliever César Morales was called in from the bullpen in July, it was "lights out" for the other team. He usually put a quick stop to any potential rallies. For his solid mound work he was chosen the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

The Noblesville Millers reliever had no saves for the month with a 5-0 record and 2.58 ERA. He made no relief appearances, hurled 38.1 innings, yielded 26 hits, fanned 30 and walked 7.

This year Morales has no saves, totaled 138 innings, allowed 122 base hits and fashioned a 4.04 ERA while racking up 97 strikeouts and a record of 10 wins and 7 losses.


Rice Voted Best RL Pitcher in July

Ken Rice has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Royals bullpen ace collected no saves and 20 strikeouts in 32 innings, holding the opposition to a .304 average and posting a 1.41 ERA and a 4-0 record.

Rice's record this year is 12-and-6 with no saves and a 4.47 ERA. He has given up 175 hits in 137 innings with 52 strikeouts.

Rookie of the Month Won by Molina

The Continental League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month trophy went to Roberto Molina of Noblesville. He was voted the outstanding rookie in July.

Last month the 24-year-old Millers second baseman played in 25 games and hit .222 with 3 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Molina also scored 15 times and drove in 14 runs.

This season Molina has hit at a .218 clip with 31 RBIs, 5 home runs and 57 runs scored.


July's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star

In the month of July Gabriel García hit the ball hard, often and with authority and was honored as the Republic League Rookie of the Month.

He did it in standout fashion as the Hammersmith's second baseman hit .327 with 1 home run and 14 RBIs while scoring 18 runs.

Napa Valley's Jack Caldwell had a productive August and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 24-year-old center fielder stood out at the plate with a .368 batting average, 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Caldwell is batting .284 with 23 home runs. His totals include 75 RBIs and 72 runs scored.

August's premier pitcher was Rodrigo Rivera of Brooklyn Brownstones. He pulverized Continental League hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Brownstones star hurler fashioned a 4-0 en route to the honor.

He had 29 strikeouts in 38 innings and compiled a 0.47 ERA. Other clubs hit .125 against him.

For the season Rivera has logged 18 wins and 5 losses and struck out 148 batters in 189.1 innings while compiling a 1.81 ERA.

At Gustavo Pérez's age, not many pitchers can still get the job done. But he can still throw the ball. The 38-year-old reliever for Montreal was selected the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for August earlier today -- not only satisfying himself, but silencing critics who said he has lost too much to compete at this level.

The old man definitely still has it, making 12 relief appearances and throwing 12 innings as he chalked up 8 saves, 7 strikeouts, and a fine 1.50 ERA and a 1-0 mark.

This season Pérez has picked up 31 saves and posted a 1-6 record with a 5.25 ERA. He has 50 relief appearances, tossed 48 innings and struck out 30.
