Red-Hot April Lands Soto Batting Prize in CL

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old José Carlos Soto put together a solid offensive month for Washington and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .377 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

José Vargas battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Vargas told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Vargas hit .363 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

Renegades Cobb Named CL's Best Pitcher

Veteran Jim Cobb put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Alberta Renegades, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Cobb racked up a 5-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 3.20 ERA over 39.1 innings and striking out 44.

April's Best Starter Named in RL

Bill Sawyer's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 28-year-old Maricopa hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 50 in 46.1 innings, logged an ERA of 0.97 and allowed opponents to hit .135 against him.

Swinging a hot stick in April, David Pérez picked up the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award today.

The 27-year-old right fielder for Alberta lashed 29 hits as he put together a .296 average with 5 home runs. He also drove in 19 runs, scored 19 times and drew 6 walks on his way to a .333 OBP.

Tidwell Wins Best Bat Award in May

Joe Tidwell capped off a fine May by being named the Continental League Batter of the Month today.

Manchester's center fielder hit .289 while collecting 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and scoring 22 runs. He also drew 12 walks to post an OBP of .352.

Currently Tidwell is batting .298 with 64 hits and 8 home runs. He has knocked in 36 runs and scored 31 times.

Andrés Gonzáles Winner in May

Andrés Gonzáles of the Rattlers hit .427 in May with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 28-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

This season Gonzáles is hitting .332 with 7 home runs.

Shu Tabbed as May's Starter of the Month

Kang-xi Shu hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Manchester starter earned a 5-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 35.2 innings, struck out 30 and compiled a solid 1.77 ERA.

So far this season Shu has a 7-1 record with a 2.19 ERA.

Republic League Premier Pitcher is Ramos

Francisco Ramos has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Wolverines bullpen ace collected 1 save and 32 strikeouts in 22.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .185 average and posting a 0.40 ERA and a 3-0 record.

This season Ramos has been credited with 3 saves. In 24 relief appearances and 44 innings he has a 4-2 won-lost mark, 1.02 ERA and 48 strikeouts

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Youngster Anacleto Felcia emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Alberta deserved the honor, batting .337 with 2 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Felcia enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this year Felcia has hit .320 with 5 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Portland Rookie Hits His Way to RL Honor

Héctor Martínez earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Portland second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Martínez hit .255 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season in 25 games, Martínez has hit at a .255 clip with 27 hits, 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

CL Announces Best Batter Award

Hot-hitting right fielder Kiyotaka Yamashita of the Omaha Bees really pounded opposing pitchers in June and collected Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

He hit .320 with 8 home runs and 23 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

So far this season Yamashita is hitting .316 with 16 home runs.

Ann Arbor's Yap Acclaimed Best RL Hitter

Mi-yuan Yap was declared the Republic League Batter of the Month today. Ann Arbor's designated hitter stroked 38 hits in 100 at-bats for a .380 average in June.

He also hit 2 home runs, drove in 18 and scored 18 runs.

This year Yap is hitting .332 with 103 hits, 6 home runs, 49 RBIs and has scored 48 runs.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Jim Cobb still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 28-year-old starter for Alberta was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 44 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 0.84 ERA in 42.2 innings of work.

Currently Cobb has a record of 11-1 with 128 strikeouts and 31 walks in 120.2 innings and a 2.16 ERA.

Anacleto Felcia's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Alberta center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .378 with 10 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Felcia also scored 20 times and drove in 16 runs.

Thus far this year Felcia is batting .340 with 7 home runs, 43 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

Yamashita Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in July

July's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Continental League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Omaha right fielder, Kiyotaka Yamashita.

He starred by hitting .374 with a .468 on-base percentage, totaled 34 hits in 91 at-bats, 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

A look at his season totals shows Yamashita with 21 home runs, .329 BA, .437 OBP, 81 RBIs and 79 runs scored.

Waikiki's Moore RL #1 Batter in July
Thursday, August 1st, 2126
Ryan Moore is in the final year of his contract with Waikiki and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 24 games in July the 37-year-old first baseman ripped Republic League pitchers for a .294 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

If Moore keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

So far in 2126 Moore is batting .259 with 22 home runs, 84 RBIs and 67 runs scored. He has 111 hits in 429 at-bats and a .332 OBP.

Sharpe Nabs CL #1 Pitcher Award

It was a monstrous July for the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Evan Sharpe of the Washington Freedom. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Sharpe recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 35 innings, he yielded 22 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 14 walks and put up a solid ERA of 2.31 in a stellar month on the mound.

This season Sharpe has crafted a 5-8 mark with a 4.22 ERA in 130 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .273 against him and he has 104 strikeouts.

Axemen Hurler Named RL's #1 Starter

The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Republic League trophy went to Portland hurler Esteban Medina for his strong performance in July.

During the month, Medina was impressive with a 0.59 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 30.2 innings he struck out 24 and gave up 18 hits and 12 walks.

This season Medina has registered 8 wins and 7 losses in 21 starts with a 4.19 ERA.

Anacleto Felcia put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In July he chalked up 25 hits, 1 home run and drove in 13 runs. The Alberta center fielder compiled a .325 average and a .361 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 5 walks.

In his season totals, Felcia has 8 home runs, .336 BA, .381 OBP, 56 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has played in 92 games.

RL Best Newcomer Trophy Awarded

The whole town is celebrating today in Portland as Héctor Martínez has just been awarded July's Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie second baseman took the award by rapping out 27 hits in 105 at-bats for a .257 batting average. During the month he collected 5 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 13 times.

This year Martínez has socked 75 hits in 321 at-bats for a .234 average with 10 home runs. He is getting on base at a .319 pace and his totals also include 35 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

Manchester's Tidwell Snags August Batting Title

He finished with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs, scored 24 runs, and had a .469 on-base percentage.

Tidwell currently has a .288 batting average with 151 hits, 20 homers, 90 RBIs, 75 runs scored and a .363 OBP.

Yap of Ann Arbor RL Batter of the Month

Mi-yuan Yap had quite a month with the bat in August and the Ann Arbor designated hitter was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .375 with 36 hits, 2 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also drew 24 walks to post a .488 on-base percentage.

This season Yap has hit at a .327 clip with 85 RBIs, 10 home runs and 83 runs scored.

Sojuro Hori will be bringing August's Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Havana. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Hori started 6 games, going 4-0 with 35 strikeouts in 35.1 innings as he compiled his 2.29 ERA.

This season Hori has worked 143 innings with 128 strikeouts en route to a 7-10 record and a 5.03 ERA.

RL's Top Pitcher in August Is Hernández

The top pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Manolo Hernández of the Maricopa Rattlers. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing August with an excellent 4-0 record and 2.33 ERA.

The Rattlers hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 38.2 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 6.

This season Hernández has worked 183 innings with 142 strikeouts en route to a 10-11 record and a 3.89 ERA.

When you think of rookies, you think of men in their early to mid 20's. Despite the fact that Mario Sardiña is 30, he made a big splash by putting up solid numbers to win Continental League Rookie of the Month honors.

He told BNN reporters at the press conference, "I'm thrilled beyond words. All I can say is... better late than never."

In August, the Manchester first baseman hit .400 while rapping out 20 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

So far this season Sardiña is batting .264 with 8 home runs.

Very odd performance for the Hibbies, although I think they were on their way to righting themselves by the end.

I felt I overachieved in reaching the playoffs last season and then lucked into the title as well with a hot team, but I actually thought I had improved on that team. Then it mystifyingly started the season 22-33 through the first two months.

The team went 58-49 after that, which is probably closer to what it should have done. But that bad start proved too tough to overcome. Oh well...

Congrats to the playoff teams, and good luck tomorrow!

The last game of the season, we played Spring and won 22-13. 44 total hits in the game.

It was 13-11 after three innings.

The 27-year-old right fielder for Alberta lashed 29 hits as he put together a .296 average with 5 home runs. He also drove in 19 runs, scored 19 times and drew 6 walks on his way to a .333 OBP. Republic League Names Rookie of Month Wednesday, May 1st, 2126 Roger Larson is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. RL's #1 Batter Announced Wednesday, May 1st, 2126 José Vargas battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Vargas told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." Manchester's center fielder hit .289 while collecting 6 home runs, 27 RBIs and scoring 22 runs. He also drew 12 walks to post an OBP of .352. Currently Tidwell is batting .298 with 64 hits and 8 home runs. He has knocked in 36 runs and scored 31 times. Andrés Gonzáles Winner in May Saturday, June 1st, 2126 Andrés Gonzáles of the Rattlers hit .427 in May with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy. The 28-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise. This season Gonzáles is hitting .332 with 7 home runs.

The young man from Alberta deserved the honor, batting .337 with 2 home runs and 15 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Felcia enjoy the limelight. Thus far this year Felcia has hit .320 with 5 home runs and 27 RBIs. Portland Rookie Hits His Way to RL Honor Saturday, June 1st, 2126 Héctor Martínez earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Portland second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Martínez hit .255 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award. This season in 25 games, Martínez has hit at a .255 clip with 27 hits, 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This month's trophy was awarded to the Omaha right fielder, Kiyotaka Yamashita. He put up some mighty scary numbers. Sharpe recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 35 innings, he yielded 22 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 14 walks and put up a solid ERA of 2.31 in a stellar month on the mound. This season Sharpe has crafted a 5-8 mark with a 4.22 ERA in 130 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .273 against him and he has 104 strikeouts. Axemen Hurler Named RL's #1 Starter Thursday, August 1st, 2126 The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Republic League trophy went to Portland hurler Esteban Medina for his strong performance in July. During the month, Medina was impressive with a 0.59 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 30.2 innings he struck out 24 and gave up 18 hits and 12 walks. In July he chalked up 25 hits, 1 home run and drove in 13 runs. The Alberta center fielder compiled a .325 average and a .361 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 5 walks. In his season totals, Felcia has 8 home runs, .336 BA, .381 OBP, 56 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has played in 92 games. RL Best Newcomer Trophy Awarded Thursday, August 1st, 2126 The whole town is celebrating today in Portland as Héctor Martínez has just been awarded July's Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy. The standout rookie second baseman took the award by rapping out 27 hits in 105 at-bats for a .257 batting average. During the month he collected 5 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 13 times. Yap of Ann Arbor RL Batter of the Month Sunday, September 1st, 2126 Mi-yuan Yap had quite a month with the bat in August and the Ann Arbor designated hitter was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts. To win the honor, he batted .375 with 36 hits, 2 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also drew 24 walks to post a .488 on-base percentage. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping. Hori started 6 games, going 4-0 with 35 strikeouts in 35.1 innings as he compiled his 2.29 ERA. This season Hori has worked 143 innings with 128 strikeouts en route to a 7-10 record and a 5.03 ERA. RL's Top Pitcher in August Is Hernández Sunday, September 1st, 2126 The top pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Manolo Hernández of the Maricopa Rattlers. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing August with an excellent 4-0 record and 2.33 ERA. The Rattlers hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 38.2 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 6. This season Hernández has worked 183 innings with 142 strikeouts en route to a 10-11 record and a 3.89 ERA.
