CL Announces Outstanding Batter Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Ieyoshi Sato put together a solid offensive month for Oshawa and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .333 with 10 home runs, 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Maricopa's Kirschner Top RL Batter in April

Mark Kirschner is on a tear! After posting a .330 average in April, the Maricopa center fielder took home the Republic League Batter of the Month award handed out earlier today.

He cracked 30 hits with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs and scored 13 runs. The 28-year-old also collected 5 free passes and posted a .378 on-base percentage.

Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in April

Jimmy Foreman is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for April.

He made 12 relief appearances for Washington last month, throwing 12 innings and collecting 4 saves, a 4-0 record, 16 strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA.

RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Vázquez
Thursday, May 1st, 2127
José Vázquez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 3-0 in April, the 32-year-old Chicago hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 28 in 35 innings, logged an ERA of 1.03 and allowed opponents to hit .203 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Michel St-Pierre earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Plantana right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

St-Pierre hit .250 with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 8 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Fernando Gallegos just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 24-year-old second baseman for Chicago hit .385 with 37 hits, 1 home run and 12 RBI. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .410 on-base percentage.

Omaha's Yamashita Collects May Batting Honor

On the heels of a very productive May, Kiyotaka Yamashita received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested right fielder hit .416 for the Omaha Bees and racked up 9 home runs, 35 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

So far this season Yamashita is hitting .376 with 16 home runs.

Lang Crowned Top RL Hitter in May
Sunday, June 1st, 2127
Jeffrey Lang of the Ann Arbor Wolverines stood out in May with a .328 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old center fielder totaled 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He also chipped in 6 walks for a .365 on-base percentage.

In this current campaign Lang is hitting at a .300 clip with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Manchester's Relief Ace Top Pitcher in May

Pedro Muñóz has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Terriers bullpen ace collected 5 saves and 16 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding the opposition to a .250 average and posting a 1.38 ERA and a 2-0 record.

This season Muñóz has made 20 relief appearances, saving 10. His record is 2-1 with 25 strikeouts in 21 innings and a 1.29 ERA.

Beach Boys Starter Named May's Premier Pitcher

The top pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Zander Burton of the Waikiki Beach Boys. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing May with an excellent 4-0 record and 1.64 ERA.

The Beach Boys hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 36 hits in 44 innings. He struck out 31 and walked 6.

In 10 starts this season Burton has fashioned a 4-3 record and a 3.09 ERA.

May Sensation CL's Best Rookie

Youngster Michel St-Pierre emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Plantana deserved the honor, batting .313 with 4 home runs and 17 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let St-Pierre enjoy the limelight.

Presently St-Pierre is hitting .284 with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs. He has played in 45 games and scored 20 times.

RL Names Newcomer of the Month

Tony Flores's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Maricopa right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .284 with 8 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Flores also scored 15 times and drove in 11 runs.

Flores is hitting .293 this year with 2 home runs and 18 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .338, 10 walks and scored 24 times.

Guerra Cops CL Batter of the Month Honors

Miguel Guerra battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Guerra told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Guerra hit .333 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

Guerra is presently batting .287 with 14 home runs, 43 runs scored and 41 RBIs. His OBP is .372.

González Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Tuesday, July 1st, 2127
Manuel González of the Naps hit .378 in June with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

This season González has 6 home runs and a .322 batting average.

June's Top Starter Named in CL

Veteran Jim Cobb put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Alberta Renegades, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Cobb racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.00 ERA over 45 innings and striking out 53.

This season Cobb has a 9-2 record with a 1.73 ERA in 16 starts.

Márquez Tabbed as June's Starter of the Month
Tuesday, July 1st, 2127
The Pitcher of the Month has been picked and the Republic League trophy went to Ann Arbor hurler Víctor Márquez for his strong performance in June.

During the month, Márquez was impressive with a 1.27 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 42.2 innings he struck out 38 and gave up 25 hits and 9 walks.

This season Márquez has compiled a 9-3 mark with a 2.84 ERA.

Havana has a new rising star.
His name is Rob Calhoun and he is June's Rookie of the Month in the Continental League. This standout first-year pitcher wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance over the last month.

In 6 starts he chalked up 4 wins and no losses with a 0.00 ERA, notched 39 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and held other clubs to a .186 average.

This year Calhoun has a 5-3 record with a 2.95 ERA.

June's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star

Fernando Gallegos is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Chicago hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .282 average with 33 hits, no home runs and 5 RBIs.

For the year Gallegos has hit .315 with 2 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 40 runs.

FOOLX News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

Half of the season has been played and now it's time for the All Star game! Yánez Grabs CL Best Batter Award for July

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Jesús Yánez can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 34-year-old first baseman for Washington was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In July he batted .371 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Thus far this year Yánez is batting .325 with 21 home runs, 61 RBIs and 83 runs scored.

July's Best RL Hitter is José Vargas
Friday, August 1st, 2127
Waikiki left fielder José Vargas took home the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy for July.

He put up some solid numbers, including a .322 batting average and .344 on-base percentage with 28 hits, 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Vargas is currently batting .234 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.

Larkman CL's #1 Pitcher in July

The Omaha Bees owe Lloyd Larkman a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in July, Larkman tore up the opposition with a fine 5-1 mark on his way to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed Larkman, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was Larkman who did the banging in July as he tossed up 45 strikeouts in 40 innings, holding opponents to a .180 average and posting a 2.70 ERA.

Currently Larkman has a record of 12-4 with 160 strikeouts and 63 walks in 142.2 innings and a 3.60 ERA.

RL Selects Macías July's Best Pitcher

"The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we might have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Pablo Macías put together a very solid month to take home the Republic League's top pitching honor in July.

The 23-year-old reliever threw like a veteran. In 12 relief appearances he raked in 6 saves and 16 strikeouts in 13.2 innings as he put together his 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA.

For the season Macías has earned 24 saves, worked 52 innings, fanned 51 hitters and recorded a 1.04 ERA. He has held opposing teams to a .189 batting average.

July's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded

23-year-old Rob Calhoun is deceptively poised for such a young man. In 5 starts he bagged 4 wins in July and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The Havana hurler logged a 4-0 record, 27 strikeouts in 32.1 innings, held opponents to a .214 average and compiled an ERA of 2.51.

In 21 starts this season Calhoun has crafted a 9-3 record with a 2.83 ERA.

Chavarría Heads the Rookie Class

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month honor went to Gabriel Chavarría of Ann Arbor. He was singled out as the top-rated rookie for the month of July.

Last month the 24-year-old Wolverines second baseman played in 20 games and hit .397 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and no home runs. Chavarría also scored 10 times and drove in 7 runs.

On the year Chavarría has hit .314 with 1 home run, 35 RBIs and scored 34 runs.

Rivera Snares CL Top Batter Award in August

Rafael Rivera of the Havana Banana Sluggers had a field day with Continental League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During August he compiled a .427 batting average, drove in 22 runs and scored 27 times. He also managed to pick up 14 walks to post a .488 on-base percentage.

This season Rivera has hit at a .332 clip and produced 73 runs batted in, 23 home runs and 93 runs.

Jeffrey Lang Named Best RL Batter in August
Monday, September 1st, 2127
Jeffrey Lang used that sweet swing with great success for Ann Arbor last month, garnering him the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old center fielder put up a .300 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Posting a .281 batting average to date, Lang has 35 home runs and 122 RBIs.

MacDormond #1 CL Pitcher in August

The Continental League scribes have announced August's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Paul MacDormond of Omaha. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 4-0 mark to prove it.

The Omaha star made 7 starts with a 1.87 ERA and surrendered 30 hits in 43.1 innings. He struck out 46 and walked 9.

In 28 starts this year MacDormond has posted 13 wins while suffering 6 losses. He has pitched 171.1 innings, allowed 143 hits, struck out 195 and has a 3.05 ERA.

Ann Arbor Starter Wins August's Pitcher Award

As Jacob Cooper hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for August, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Ann Arbor once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Cooper put pressure on the Wolverines to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 2.51 over 46.2 innings last month. He also rolled up 29 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Ann Arbor and to every other team in the league.

This year Cooper has posted a 16-3 mark in 26 starts and has a 2.97 ERA.

Super Month Nets Guertin #1 Batter Prize in CL
Wednesday, October 1st, 2127
Hot-hitting left fielder Jean-Marc Guertin of the Bees really pounded Continental League pitchers in September, winning the Batter of the Month award.

He hit .302 with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs, 17 runs scored and 7 walks to finish with a .351 on-base percentage.

This season in 154 games Guertin is batting .294 with 29 home runs, 108 RBIs and has scored 87 times.

RL's Best Batter Announced
Wednesday, October 1st, 2127
His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Jeffrey Lang of the Ann Arbor Wolverines was named the Republic League's best batter in September.

The Ann Arbor center fielder starred with a .368 batting average, 13 home runs and 30 RBIs.

This season Lang is swinging the bat at a .296 rate with 195 hits in 659 at-bats. To date he has hit 48 home runs, scored 114 runs and driven in 152.

CL Announces Best Pitcher for September

It was a very good month for Lorenzo Solís in September. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Plantana Pirates outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Solís ran up a 3-1 record in his 6 starts during the month. In 37.2 innings he fanned 43 and recorded a 1.91 ERA.

On his stats sheet for the year Solís shows a 8-13 record, 32 starts, 193.2 innings, 204 strikeouts and a 3.95 ERA.

RL's Premier Starter is Cooper

Whether Jacob Cooper stays in Ann Arbor beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In September the 29-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 3-0 record and and an ERA of 2.13. In 38 innings he struck out 34, surrendered 33 hits, 3 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 6 starts last month.

In 32 starts this season Cooper has gathered 19 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 213.2 innings, allowed 194 hits, struck out 175 and has a 2.82 ERA.

Rookie Honored by Continental League

Michel St-Pierre wreaked havoc on Continental League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In September he batted .302 for the Pirates, lashing 26 hits and 5 home runs. The Plantana right fielder also drove in 12 runs and scored 13 times to round out a most impressive month.

St-Pierre is currently batting .265 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs.

Fernando Gallegos was named the top rookie in the Republic League for his outstanding performance last month.

In September, the Chicago second baseman posted a .366 average while racking up 41 hits, 1 home run and 16 RBIs.

Presently Gallegos is batting .294 with 195 hits and 4 home runs. He has knocked in 68 runs and scored 85 times.

My pitching staff hit the wall as two if my five starters had rating drops during spring training. I should have gone with the 4 man rotation giving the ball to the monster Cobb as much as possible.

Can someone tell me how SP Rudy Farely did? He had huge rating drops but i kept him in the rotation in an attempt to get him into the top 20 in wins. Nostalgia won out over common sense... But fortunatly ( or unfortunatly) i was far enough back so that one decision was not the reason i missed the playoffs.

He batted .333 with 10 home runs, 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Maricopa's Kirschner Top RL Batter in April Thursday, May 1st, 2127 Mark Kirschner is on a tear! After posting a .330 average in April, the Maricopa center fielder took home the Republic League Batter of the Month award handed out earlier today. The battle-tested right fielder hit .416 for the Omaha Bees and racked up 9 home runs, 35 RBIs and 25 runs scored. So far this season Yamashita is hitting .376 with 16 home runs. Lang Crowned Top RL Hitter in May Sunday, June 1st, 2127 Jeffrey Lang of the Ann Arbor Wolverines stood out in May with a .328 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award. The 25-year-old center fielder totaled 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He also chipped in 6 walks for a .365 on-base percentage. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. The Terriers bullpen ace collected 5 saves and 16 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding the opposition to a .250 average and posting a 1.38 ERA and a 2-0 record. This season Muñóz has made 20 relief appearances, saving 10. His record is 2-1 with 25 strikeouts in 21 innings and a 1.29 ERA. Beach Boys Starter Named May's Premier Pitcher Sunday, June 1st, 2127 The top pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Zander Burton of the Waikiki Beach Boys. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing May with an excellent 4-0 record and 1.64 ERA. The Beach Boys hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 36 hits in 44 innings. He struck out 31 and walked 6. In 10 starts this season Burton has fashioned a 4-3 record and a 3.09 ERA.

The young man from Plantana deserved the honor, batting .313 with 4 home runs and 17 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let St-Pierre enjoy the limelight. Presently St-Pierre is hitting .284 with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs. He has played in 45 games and scored 20 times. RL Names Newcomer of the Month Sunday, June 1st, 2127 Tony Flores's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Maricopa right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .284 with 8 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Flores also scored 15 times and drove in 11 runs. Flores is hitting .293 this year with 2 home runs and 18 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .338, 10 walks and scored 24 times.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Guerra told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 27 games, Guerra hit .333 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Guerra is presently batting .287 with 14 home runs, 43 runs scored and 41 RBIs. His OBP is .372. González Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor Tuesday, July 1st, 2127 Manuel González of the Naps hit .378 in June with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy. The 32-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise. This season González has 6 home runs and a .322 batting average.

His name is Rob Calhoun and he is June's Rookie of the Month in the Continental League. This standout first-year pitcher wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance over the last month. In 6 starts he chalked up 4 wins and no losses with a 0.00 ERA, notched 39 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and held other clubs to a .186 average. This year Calhoun has a 5-3 record with a 2.95 ERA. June's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star Tuesday, July 1st, 2127 Fernando Gallegos is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In June the Chicago hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .282 average with 33 hits, no home runs and 5 RBIs. For the year Gallegos has hit .315 with 2 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 40 runs.

In fact, the 34-year-old first baseman for Washington was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate. In July he batted .371 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Thus far this year Yánez is batting .325 with 21 home runs, 61 RBIs and 83 runs scored. July's Best RL Hitter is José Vargas Friday, August 1st, 2127 Waikiki left fielder José Vargas took home the Republic League Batter of the Month Trophy for July. He put up some solid numbers, including a .322 batting average and .344 on-base percentage with 28 hits, 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored. One of the league's most dominant starters in July, Larkman tore up the opposition with a fine 5-1 mark on his way to the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. "When you're pitching this well," analyzed Larkman, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is." It was Larkman who did the banging in July as he tossed up 45 strikeouts in 40 innings, holding opponents to a .180 average and posting a 2.70 ERA. During August he compiled a .427 batting average, drove in 22 runs and scored 27 times. He also managed to pick up 14 walks to post a .488 on-base percentage. This season Rivera has hit at a .332 clip and produced 73 runs batted in, 23 home runs and 93 runs. Jeffrey Lang Named Best RL Batter in August Monday, September 1st, 2127 Jeffrey Lang used that sweet swing with great success for Ann Arbor last month, garnering him the Republic League Batter of the Month award. The 25-year-old center fielder put up a .300 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Posting a .281 batting average to date, Lang has 35 home runs and 122 RBIs.

He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 4-0 mark to prove it. The Omaha star made 7 starts with a 1.87 ERA and surrendered 30 hits in 43.1 innings. He struck out 46 and walked 9. In 28 starts this year MacDormond has posted 13 wins while suffering 6 losses. He has pitched 171.1 innings, allowed 143 hits, struck out 195 and has a 3.05 ERA. Ann Arbor Starter Wins August's Pitcher Award Monday, September 1st, 2127 As Jacob Cooper hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for August, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Ann Arbor once his contract is up at the end of the season. Cooper put pressure on the Wolverines to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 2.51 over 46.2 innings last month.
