In the last year of his deal with Napa Valley, Joe Hill has created some waves by winning April's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .351 batting average with 8 home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 9 walks and a .408 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.


Omaha Third Baseman RL's Best Batter in April

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Raúl López put together a solid offensive month for Omaha and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .429 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Napa Valley's Fernández CL Top Pitcher

Enrique Fernández's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in April, the 26-year-old Napa Valley hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 48 in 37 innings, logged an ERA of 1.22 and allowed opponents to hit .196 against him.


Toronto's Starter Receives RL Pitching Award

Veteran Roberto Ruíz put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Toronto Marlboros, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Ruíz racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.91 ERA over 47 innings and striking out 45.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Youngster Pedro Rivera emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Halifax deserved the honor, batting .364 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Rivera enjoy the limelight.

Augustin Vaccari earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo designated hitter might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Vaccari hit .319 with 6 home runs, 32 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Sylvain Lemieux walked away with the Continental League Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in May.

The Brooklyn center fielder hit .272 with 13 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Lemieux is batting .231 with 17 home runs and 33 RBIs.


May's Best RL Hitter is Augustin Vaccari

For a rookie just breaking in, Augustin Vaccari certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the RL Batter of the Month award for May.

The 24-year-old designated hitter for the Tokyo Catfish hit .326 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

During the current season Vaccari is batting at a .322 clip with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs. He has played in 53 games and scored 31 times.

Kobayashi Wins Best CL Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Tamasaburo Kobayashi still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 30-year-old starter for Brooklyn was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 21 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.74 ERA in 42.2 innings of work.

In 11 starts this season Kobayashi has recorded a 6-3 record and a 2.95 ERA.


May's RL Top Pitcher is Royals Nava

There was little doubt around the Republic League that Manny Nava would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for May. Today, they made it official, naming the 31-year-old Montreal Royals starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .229 batting average while fashioning a 1.66 ERA in 5 starts. His record for the month was 4-0 in 38 innings of work.

His record this season is 8-0 in 11 starts and Nava has a 1.86 ERA.

Rookie Fuseli Named Best in May

Giulio Fuseli's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Baltimore first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .278 with 12 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Fuseli also scored 14 times and drove in 11 runs.

Thus far this year Fuseli has hit .239 with 3 home runs and 14 RBIs.

Augustin Vaccari is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Tokyo hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .326 average with 30 hits, 11 home runs and 24 RBIs.

This year Vaccari is batting .322 with 66 hits, 17 home runs, 56 RBIs, 12 walks, .359 OBP and has scored 31 runs.

Apex's Martínez Collects June Batting Honor

Jesús Martínez battered Continental League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Martínez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Martínez hit .343 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 29 runs.

On the year Martínez is hitting .291 with 91 hits, 9 home runs, 52 RBIs, .364 OBP and has scored 58 runs.


Torrid June Gets Rúbio RL #1 Batter Trophy

In June, Luis Rúbio swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Hartford right fielder batted .330 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Presently Rúbio is batting .272 with 86 hits and 22 home runs. He has knocked in 64 runs and scored 53 times.

CL Selects Pérez June's Best Starter

The Pitcher of the Month for June has been picked and the Continental League award went to Halifax hurler, Reynaldo Pérez.

During the month, Pérez was impressive with a 0.61 ERA and 6 wins and no losses. In 44 innings he struck out 40 and gave up 31 hits and 1 walks.

For the year Pérez has a 10-3 record with a 1.41 ERA in 17 starts.


Hyde Acclaimed Top Pitcher in June

Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was Steve Hyde of the Tokyo Catfish. He captured the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in June.

Hyde started 6 games, threw 41.1 innings, yielded 27 hits and logged a 3-0 record. He put down 36 batters on strikes, walked 9 and compiled a 1.74 ERA. Opposing teams batted .186 against him.

To date this year in 17 starts, Hyde has crafted a 7-3 mark with a 3.12 ERA.

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Eric Fox just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 23-year-old shortstop for Leduc hit .339 with 41 hits, 1 home run and 6 runs batted in. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .389 on-base percentage.

In 2191 Fox has hit at a .303 clip with 106 hits, 3 home runs, 25 RBIs and has scored 50 times.

Lee Hall of the Montreal Royals has been honored as the top Rookie in the Republic League.

In June he delivered 30 hits, 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He hit .303 with a .346 OBP.

Price Snags CL Batting Honor in July

Mitchell Price, the Cleveland Cyclones left fielder, certainly made his name known to Continental League hurlers over the last month. He consistently introduced himself with hit after hit and came away with July's Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He slashed and bashed his way to a .320 batting average while tallying up 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 14 walks and a .405 on-base percentage.

In the current season, Price has put up a .271 batting average with 117 hits, 17 home runs, 50 runs batted in and scored 63 runs.


RL Honors Baldwin, #1 Batter in July

When guys like Tokyo's Abel Baldwin win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 25 hits in 77 at-bats.

The veteran first baseman hit for a .325 batting average and collected 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Baldwin is hitting .318 this year with 17 home runs, 64 RBIs and 60 runs scored. He has 96 hits in 302 at-bats, 56 walks and a .449 on-base percentage. Baldwin has played in 96 games.

Pérez Selected CL's Best Pitcher

Reynaldo Pérez of the Halifax Winter Wolves is the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.
In July he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

Pérez checked opposing batters on 31 base hits and a .231 batting average. He rang up 33 strikeouts in 35.1 innings of work, surrendered 1 walks and fashioned a 1.53 ERA.

Over the season Pérez has thrown 156.1 innings and dished out 139 strikeouts with a 15-3 mark and a 1.44 ERA.

Halifax's Pedro Rivera collected 23 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for July.

He batted .365 with 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

This season Rivera is hitting at a .353 pace with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and has scored 46 times.

Lee Hall is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Montreal hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .340 average with 34 hits, 6 home runs and 26 RBIs.

Looking at his present stats, Hall has compiled a .314 batting average in 101 games with a .364 on-base percentage, while hitting 16 home runs and driving in 75 runs.

Marvin Campbell put his mark on the Continental League this August by putting together some award-winning numbers. Cleveland's first baseman took home the Batter of the Month award on the strength of his .310 batting average.
