Don't look now, but guess who is in 2nd place, one shot off the lead in Florida...

Valspar Championship -- Tiger Woods one behind Corey Conners entering final round

He's not a comeback artist so I don't expect Tiger to win tomorrow, but it's good for golf when he's near the top of a leaderboard. Hope it's a sign of things to come.

Lots of tension in this final round at the Valspar. They're getting their sponsor's money worth this year.

Paul Casey had one of the best weekends of his life and the first 5 stories on golf.com are Tiger related. I get it, but also show the winner some respect.

When ratings/website traffic are up 200% because of Paul Casey, he'll probably get all five spots. But the only other two stories on the page besides the one about the course designer are about Casey.

Well the magic for Sergio from last year's Masters is clearly gone. Last year on the 15th hole in the last round, he eagled and won. Today in the 1st round, a record high score on any hole at Augusta with a 13. Ouch. Tiger in at +1 after being +4 at the turn. Dustin Johnson does not slip on a staircase this year, and is currently +2. Tony Finau who dislocated his ankle celebrating a hole in one in the Par-3 contest yesterday (and popping it back in himself) is curremtly a shot off the lead at -3.

Well Jordan Spieth was a short missed par putt away from the lowest final round score at the Masters (-9, 63) and even if he had made it would still not have won the tournament. Patrick Reed won at -15. First two rounds seemed closer to what Augusta used to be-a course most pro's feared. Last two rounds brought rain and almost no wind. Almost everyone was shooting under par today except Rory McIllroy who was fighting off Grand Slam demons again. The two par 5's on the back nine last year rated the easiest par 5's on the PGA tour last year and probably will again this year.

I really don't think this is what Augusta wants. Would not surprise me to see major changes to next year's course, including turning one of the par-5's on the back to a par 4.

Augusta wants scoring, big cheers and ratings on Sunday on the back 9. I'd be surprised if they changed anything major for next year, and certainly not one of the historic Par 5s.

They bought land behind the 13th tee to potentially make it longer.

Also there has been rumors floating around that they would make the players all play the same "Masters" ball.

Sorry, yeah, they may do things to make them slightly longer, but I meant they wouldn't change the scoring.

So the US Open starts tomorrow in Long Island-Dustin Johnson fresh off a win which let him reclaim the #1 world ranking is in what should be a fun pairing with Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods

Dustin Johnson off to a great start-was as high as -3, but came back to the field to finish -1. Tied with 3 others. Almost all the other big names struggled including Tiger and Jordan Spieth at +8, Phil at +7, Rory at +10-ouch!

Dustin Johnson currently the only player above Even par at -3 on a rainy second round. Through 9 holes.

Dustin Johnson only player to finish under par at -4. Stenson and Fleetwood had good rounds to get within shouting distance though. Tiger had to birdie his last two holes just to possibly make the cut. Afternoon groups off now.

Well looked like Ian Poulter and Justin Rose were going to join Dustin Johnson under par, but they both fell back late. So Dustin has a four shot lead over Charley Hoffman and Scott Piercy going into the weekend.

Cut came at +8 which means Woods, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory, and Sergio won't be playing this weekend.

The Golf course won today. Only under par rounds came from the early groups, and two of those men, Tony Finau and Daniel Berger thanks to a bogey on the last hole by Dustin Johnson, are now in the final pairing tomorrow and are tied with DJ and Koepka at +3. No one in the afternoon groups were under par, many holes had few birdies for the day and a couple had none. +8 over par was the cut yesterday, you found yourself in the top 15 if you finished there today. Not sure what the weather will be like, but its completely wide open right now.

Phil Mickelson got so frustrated at one point on one green where he missed the putt badly, stopped the putt which was still rolling, and putted till it went in. That earned him a penalty of 2 shots, a 10 on the hole, and nearly a DQ on his 48th birthday. Brutal.

I actually prefer these conditions to the easy conditions last year, but I'm sure Phil Mickelson won't be the only one complaining about the setup. Mike Davis head of the USGA said they messed up the course setup. Weather (or lack thereof) has really been the issue over the past couple Opens, but I think this will be Davis last Open.

The golf course was a joke. I love watching pros get challenged but if I can see the same action at my local miniature golf course then you know they’ve gone too far.

yeah have to agree-I do like to see them challenged, but when nobody in the afternoon groups are under par and two guys from the morning rounds find themselves in the lead, it went too far.

And Tommy Fleetwood just missed a short putt on 18 to shoot a US Open record 62. One of 6 now to shoot 63.

Reed and Koepka tied for lead at +1, Fleetwood at +2. Johnson +3. Berger and Finau fading after being in the last group.

DJ’s done. Absolutely no faith in his putter right now.

Now it’s a matter if Koepka can stay at +1 as I can see Reed getting to +2 along with Fleetwood.

Brooks Koepka is now a back-to-back US Open champion and I'm still not sure who he is. Don't know if this is my fault, or golfs fault, or ESPNs and the like. Won't watch but guarantee the main topic on First Take tomorrow is Phil's meltdown or Tiger and that's my point.

9 guys within a shot of the lead with everyone on the back. It's as tight as you can make it right now.

Good seeing Tiger in the running at a major again. Was hoping he was going to pull it out but then he had those troublesome holes to take him out of it.

Because they are idiots? Nice to see Tiger's shot wasn't too badly affected by it.
