1861 FFP Auction

It's that favorite time of year again.

Spoiler

This only applies to:
Hilton Head, Lake Placid, Kauai, Chicago, Denver, Memphis, Shem Creek & Columbus

The FFP auction begins right now, but the 24-hour clock doesn't begin until after Monday night's sim. Meaning that if you make an bid on a guy now, the earliest he'd sign if no one else made an offer is Tuesday night.

Same deal if you're a club that had/has a franchise player but no longer does, please let me know so I can add you to the eligible list.

ANY player in STREP right now who is 16 or under, is FFP eligible, even if he turns 17 during the season. From what I've seen, this year's FFP class of possibilities will be nothing like what we saw last year now that development has been fixed. But still, possibilities abound.

Russell goes to Chicago for $12.5m since no one else bid and 24-hours have passed since the initial bid.

Yes, there's not currently a limit on how many FFP deals you can offer, so long as you have the cap space to make the offers. This may change someday, but it hasn't yet.

The rub is, there won't always be a ton of guys worth spending 9.5% or more of cap on even if it's just for one year.

The FRANCHISE player is nice for a team that's going to contend or look at San Diego and see how Salavisa has been with them for their earlier run and now they're back in playoff contention again and he's still a solid rock on the roster. That's a hard thing to pass up. On the flip side, if you have a lot of needs to address over a few years of rebuilding, it could be a good way to stock your minor league system provided the guys manage to develop. And since you're drafting 16 and unders, that'd assume they'll response well in the minors.

So it's more of a gamble than waiting to draft them, but...it can certainly work in the team's favor if they do it right.

There is no provision for this specifically. However, there's a loophole in the rule. (N.B. I did not forsee this loophole when I wrote the rule, obviously. I just thought of it now.)

There is a provision for trading a franchise player:
Quote:
Franchise players may be traded. Upon being trade, the franchise player receives a one-year contract extension with an annual value equal to the median salary of the Top 10 players in SLOP at the time of trade + $1 million. His deal for the current year will be equal to the media salary of the Top 20 players in SLOP at the time of trade + $1.5 million

So then what would happen in theory, is a team could deal their FRANCHISE guy to another team, which would give him a salary. Then the team could trade him back to his original team in a separate transaction.

Obviously, this would require finding a team with the cap space to do so that was willing to facilitate this set of transactions.

But apparently, it's possible in theory.

*What other league's commissioner actively figures out the loophole in his own rules and then tells you about them? How's that for SERVICE?!
