I started an historical career and started in 1960 using the draft files but i noticed that the draft depth is very thin... i mean usually you can get a decent players in the first 3 round, maybe in the 4th, but for 3 years in a row the players i picked in the 5+ round were like 0/0

Was this wanted when the files were creater or am i missing some settings? Like the X-Factor or some other value that i must use?

Thanks a lot

Historical draft files usually has barely 2 rounds (maybe 3à worth of draftable players.

Also remember that the game has to fill out an extra 10 teams that werent there in real life, so it has to create a bunch of fake players, most of which are probably scrubs

Thanks for hosting these files Erik. They are slightly updated from the previous version, I'm still working on getting the draft balance right, so let me know what you think of them! For those wanting the 60-10 files they are probably a couple months away, but I'm slowly working on them every once and a while! Thanks to everyone who's interested in these, hope you enjoy them!

Depends how much the input format changes. If it's the same then you might be able to use the previous files, or at worst reconvert the csv files. If it's different then I'd have to make some modifications to the script. Probably wouldn't take more than a couple hours.

Let me know if they work if anyone checks. Not sure when I'll get around to it.

Just looking at some of the other threads it looks like the csv files would need to be regenerated through the FOF 8 creator.

I might just post the cap numbers I used to generate the rosters.

It's called Playerfile application in your base Front Office Football Eight folder. (steamlibrary/steamapps/common/Front Office Football Eight)

The "Historical" files are not compatible with FOF8. I would actually pay for the "Historical" files to work.

The Player File Generator has an option to import CSV files, as does the Draft File Generator. I'm assuming we'll just import the csv version of the draft files to generate our draft files. If you look at the csv format, the information appears to be the same.

These were the cap numbers I used. I assumed the cap was 100M in 2004 then added/subtracted 5% to go each way. It works nicely that way with the salary system and cap raises. I wouldn't recommend screwing with these as salaries were assigned based on these numbers and the quality of the player.

Spoiler

I tried one the historical roster csv files. The error message indicates that Column X is limited to single digits. I checked the column. It contains two- and three-digit numbers. Also, the only rating columns with numbers (for the most part) are Column W and X. Completing Screen Passes and Completing Short Passes. Seems kind of strange that all players would be rated in these categories. So, since I'm new to the game (this being my first purchase), have I done something wrong? Or do the rosters need to be adjusted for FOF8?

You're right Titletown. Just tried to create a roster file for 1992 using my 1992 csv roster file. Error: Line 9, Column, value of 80 is not in field range of 0 to 0.

Tried a different year, this time 1989, Error Line 6, Column, Value of 27 is not in field range of 0 to 0. 1979- Error: Line 1, Column, value of 7 is not in field range of 0 to 0.

I have to be honest, I have no idea what this means.

Interestingly enough, I am able to create a "draftfile1.faf" using the Draft File Generator. When using the "1961d.csv draft file it gives me this:
Conversion Completed 900-player draft file created and ready for use with Front Office Football Eight

I tried swapping out the original players.csv & the the players.fdt files one at a time, as an experiment. The game loaded fine with the Historical players.csv file but the rosters still had the 2016 players. Thus, it appears the game ignores that particular file. When I swapped out the players.fdt file the game would not load, sighting a corrupted file/wrong version.

The game doesn't load csv files, you edit a csv file and convert it to an fdt file which the game loads. I have a super sick kid and wife today so I'm finding it difficult to find time to start experimenting with editing the csv files to see if I can pinpoint the problem.

Yes, the "fdt" file appears to be the issue, what very little I know about this. Good luck with your "experiments". Also, wishing your family good health.

Figured it out. The historical csv files have contracts longer than 5 seasons. Simply highlight columns CJ CK CL CM CN and delete. Save the csv file. Following Nilidor's guide for the salary cap # (and also then lower the minimum salary figures, I just eyeballed 1992 and divided all of those by 3).

Though that really does raise another question. Why doesn't FOF8 recognize contracts longer than 5 seasons? Tyron Smith signed a 10 year contract just a couple years ago, so in the modern game, it's not abnormal, and contracts exceeding 5 years wasn't abnormal in the past either.

Same here. I'm still having trouble generating the playerfile (even after deleting the contract columns beyond five years). I guess I'll wait for someone smarter than me to figure it out.

I didn't experience that error. I deleted the +5 year salary caps and the file converted no problem. You should check your csv file to make sure there isn't anything in your X column.

Here is the 1967 file converted for you:

Couple of questions here, because I tried this and got the same problem, with two different years('67 and '60). I want to start sometime in the '60s if I can, probably 1960 itself if you are able to get that one to work and I can't, just because why not?

I kept getting the same 'Column X' error. Also, according to the CSV File Format button, Column V is the Overall Player Rating. This is blank in all of the these files that I've checked. Somehow though the 1967 converted one you linked to I downloaded and tried, and Bart Starr never comes through us a bum or anything.

I'm thinking maybe there's an error in the file format description or something? In any case I'm confused here. Deleting the last four columns as you describe doesn't work, I've tried it repeatedly and the Column X error won't go away. I'd appreciate any ideas or whatnot here.

Thanks.

Obviously we have different versions of the files and I have the wrong ones. Yours has one fewer column, missing the 'X' column that I have, and while the players appear to be the same, the contract information is different as well.

I'm wondering you got yours from, if there are multiple links and some perhaps old or faulty? I'll have to mess around with the draft files tomorrow and see if I have similar issues there.

How do you get the CAP figure to 11 mil? The lowest I can get is 100 to start a new career.

The smallest cap figure I can successfully use is 20m (200), because you can't start the rookie salary cap below 100k (10). I'm sorry, I have no idea how to fix this, I'm assuming it is hard coded.

I'll see if I can repost the csv files I have. If you're getting the conversion error, you have the FOF 2K4 files.

I may adjust the salary cap numbers to start at 20M then before I regenerate.
