Friends to return

Uh, ok. I don't like this.

News Story
‘Friends’ Returns to TV
By WENN|Sunday, January 22, 2006
Photo GalleryHOLLYWOOD - Seminal sitcom Friends is returning to television after each of its six stars agreed multi-million dollar deals to star in four one-hour specials.
In a secret meeting before Christmas, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry reportedly agreed a $5 million apiece deal with NBC bosses in Los Angeles.

Scriptwriters have already started penning lines for the four double episodes, which are due to air next year.

Aniston, who has filmed a string of movies since the final Friends episode, was the last to agree to the new deal.

An NBC insider says, "She's the one who had been holding out. But she's now agreed to reprise Rachel (Green).

"Bringing them back is a dream come true. Ratings will go through the roof."

Network bosses have also hinted at a second spin-off of the hit comedy, following the disappointing performance of Matt LeBlanc's show Joey. The new program will see the three male stars--Perry, Schwimmer and LeBlanc--pilot a series called It's A Guy Thing.

An NBC spokesperson confirms, "Negotiations on future projects are going on all the time."

So I guess if this is greenlighted or actual does go on air, are we to assume Chandler and Monica have divorced, and it didn't work out for Ross and Rachel? Or will they try have Chandler always refer to Monica, but we never see her, kind of like "Vera" (think that was her name), Norm's wife in Cheers.

I'd guess the 4 episodes will set up the new series. Honestly, i think Monica pretty much has to die in order for the new show to be plausible and to tie up that loose end.

I have to think "spin-off" is the wrong choice of words there. I don't think a lot of supporters of the original show would go for a "guys only" version, especially if they have to do some plot wrangling to justify none of the girls being there.

However, the three guys could start a completely different ensemble comedy that's "Friends-like" but doesn't actually feature them as their Friends characters. I think that may be the "spin-off" here, of the actors and not the characters. Problem with that is they've become so identified with the show, that probably won't fly, either. All the actors from Seinfeld (aside from Jerry himself, of course) have tried going it alone on their own shows that had no connection to that show and all tanked in pretty short order. I think Jason Alexander's last one was the only one to get beyond a half-season, let alone a season.

This just sounds too bizarre. I can imagine to a certain degree everyone but Aniston possibly agreeing to this, but at the rumored salary per hour that would be significantly less money than they made during the series' run. And I certainly can't see Aniston agreeing to a salary that low considering she has more of a movie career than the rest of them do.

Something just doesn't seem right about this.

Julia L-D has a new show, I think. Not sure if it's out yet, though.

I'm watching Curb Your Enthusiasm - Second Season right now, and this is the idea for David's new show - feature Jason or Julia in a sitcom about an actor so identified with a character that he/she can't get work.

Seriously. Why would Anniston go back to TV, when she's had so much success in films like... um... hold on... um...

Man. I should know this. She's on the cover of every magazine in the world and every woman is obsessed with her, so I know she's a big movie star. I just can't actually think of any of them.

Wait, wasn't she in Office Space? Sure it was eight years ago, and she was like the fifth person in the credits, but that still counts. OK, so it's settled, she's a big movie star.

I'm going to go ahead and call it a hoax. Or at the very least, a highly unsubstantiated report based on preliminary contract talks and the wet dream of every NBC exec. We'll go with that.

I'd rather they do a spin-off threesome of Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe, named, "It's a Lesbian Thing."

this was floating around yesterday, all stories originating from the same British entertainment tabloid "news" source. CNN today is reporting about Lost salary increases, the cancellation of The West Wing and some other entertainment crap...but nothing about Friends?

I think I'll wait for some more official word

She was also in that Bruce Springsteen video when she was younger and looked like a boy. She has been riding "The Boss's" coat tails ever since.
